I was born in 1972 and have loved dIRE sTRAITS ever since my older brother introduced them to me back when they came on the scene.
I will confess though - It was only in the last few weeks that I finally discovered Mark Knopfler is actually left handed.
Just makes his music THAT much better.
    He's superhuman.

When we were deployed and fighting we weren't fighting for the USA and glory we fought for the man on the left and the man on the right, in front and behind. They were are brothers in ARMS always....

Oh dad I'm so sorry, you were only 59. Rest easy and may you be in peace, blessed with an eternity of music like this. I can't wait to see you again and hold you in my arms like I should have done so, so much more when you were still here. To all of you out there, don't take your old man for granted. Many years ago, I was a high school teacher in a very small town. We were going over World War 1. I played this song on the final day of the unit. Normally the class was loud and chatty - just like normal sophomores. I remember that I had a teacher's aide, a very nice woman in her 30's who was very interested in this era and my approach to teaching this. At the end of the song, you could have heard a pin drop in the class. Dead quiet. The aide had tears streaming down her face. I will never forget this. War is a terrible thing in the human condition. This song brings that to light. Thank you.

Firstly, don’t take this as a rebuttal of how you and everyone (mostly) view the song. I come from a Quaker family and my grandfather was a conscientious objector on an ambulance train during WW1. His only regret? Not being a combatant in the war…. As Quakers we absorb the blame for not volunteering (and ignore) doesn’t matter it’s a conscious decision. The regret my grandfather had is different and challenging to reconcile with today’s narrative. Nonetheless, I still feel in a conscious, and probably subconscious way, that his view albeit without context has merit. In biblical terms turn the other other cheek until your fellow humans suffer disproportionately as a result.

I was born 1966 here in Australia. My dad got all the records before they were in the store because he had contacts in the music industry. Fell in love with Mark and the band before most people here had heard of them.

Just stunning. Off the top of my head I can’t think of a better living example of the instrument as perfectly expressive as the voice. An absolute master who still takes humility and wonder in his work.

Mark is and Always been the most Soulful and expressive, but humble Performer. We cannot help being touched by his Inspiration and the Beauty of ALL his Music. "Brothers in Arms" is particularly emotional and touches our heart cords in an incredible way. A song dedicated to Heroes All over the World.

My lovely Dad loved this song. I played this loud when he was in his unresponsive stage before he passed. I felt a movement in his hand. He loved the guitar 🎸 😍 ❤️

One of those rare humble artists that can go into a coffee shop and people won't even know it's him.
How can you not adore this amazing artist and more importantly - amazing human being?

So true .. The problem is that kids nowadays dont appreciate the emotion that went into this music. This was the song of my youth along with Sultans and of course Goodnight Saigon(I'm aware its a different artist but still a great tune). happy days
