Alec Steele Blacksmith 2020 - Розваги
Hot diggity this thing turned out SWEET! Can't wait for episode 3!
My good man, just an FYI, what you referred to as slag is actually called dross. I’m guessing you likely already know that but did what we all tend to do and refer to it by the other name. Since education is such a big part of this channel, I thought it might be a good thing to point out. Not that it matters all that much. I mean, I can’t imagine a scenario where you’d save lives by using the correct term or cause deaths by using the incorrect term, so I’m suddenly feeling rather dumb for taking the time to write this out...
@@jmiddlefinger As you should, Mr. Pedantic
I like your watch. Could you give me more info? Thx
@@TheWhiteDragon3 Thank you, but it’s actually Captain Pedantic. Worst. Superpower. EVER.
@@jmiddlefinger xxx
We all know the "trouser shots" were really just for Alec to show off his dump truck. The man's got cake
Hahaha!
This has to be my favorite comment on the entirety of UA-cam. Bravo sir!
i mean, there's a reason for the steel framed bed
Saturate the felt with water, then clamp it to the chair. When it dries, it should retain the shape you want. Keep in mind it may shrink. It's best to experiment with the size of the felt and the temperature of the water.
Will "grinder room" stelter starts his own shop: Alec buys a needler
Haha, Alec said, "Crowd Cow is utter-ly fantastic!"
I find that statement "moooving!"
Right now I'm cold, so I'll put on a Jersey, and be warm for heifer and heifer.
Holy cow, I can't believe I missed that.
"Better connected to Meat you Eat", good advice & what I tell my Wife every Night!
that bottle opener is actually a-freaking-mazing though maybe a little unessary but really cool
It would be a novel thing to have mounted in your shop with a catch tube that makes sure the cap lands in a trash can.
@@jeffwithheldforsafety8359 er, uh, recycle bin...
Man...Spoiler alert!
How many years of working with steel and you just now discovered the needle scaler? Slackin'Alec!!!!
Hmm what would a laser rust remover do to forge slag lol...
Yeah, a needle gun is a pretty basic metalworking tool.
I thought it was called a needler.
I never thought i would see a needle gun again after i left the navy
@@davidhutchinson1320 thats a gun in halo i think
You're going to have to make a stupid heavy forged floor to support that chair!
Damascus carpet....
Who see this video become successful 🙏😊
Damascus furniture sliders to spread the weight and save the floor from dimples and scratches....
It sits next to the metal bedframe he made.
Always a good evening when I see an Alec Steele video go up. Fantastic content as always.
When I was in the Navy we used the needle gun to remove rust from decks and bulkheads to prep. for painting.
Deck force- “let us play you the song of our people”
"I'm going to spend 45 minutes and go to Harbor Freight and I'll NEVER have to do that again!!!!!"
You've..... you've never actually shopped at Harbor Freight before, have you. :)
Recommend a swivel 90 fitting on the scaler so you can have the hose over your shoulder. Makes it super easy to use and keeps it out of the way
"I wonder what happens when we do it on hot steel!?"
Alec's wife has left the chat
Hahahaha!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😋!
that litle anyang powerhammer must feel like a sister when the parents only have eyes for ther new child :D
@Alec Steele Every US sailor knows about the needle gun... LOL
I love watching these because I know almost nothing about blacksmithing and I find Myself shouting at the screen that you are doing it wrong. You are never doing it wrong.
Hi Alec I just wanted to tell you how much of an inspiration you are to me!! Your work, and the way you go about your work in such a positive way is absolutely amazing!! I am multiply neurodivergent and have disabilities so it can be hard for me to do hobbies or activities in certain environments, but because of your educational, informative videos I’m able to self teach myself by watching you and having you as an inspiration!! I love the art of foraging and I’m learning slowly but surely something that makes me genuinely so happy! Thank you so much for everything you do on here! I am so grateful to be able to be a viewer of yours! 💚⚒⚙️🦾📏🔗🗡⛏🛠⛓🔩🗜⚔️
You just made every former surface navy sailor have flashbacks when you bought that needle gun, lol. Countless hours of busting rust.
And shipyard worker. I was like... dude. It's just a needle gun, lol.
And submariners too. Never saw anyone so excited about a needle gun.
What are they used for in ships ?
@@fernandoiturbide9109 They are used to bust up rust and remove paint.
@@TheSirGoreaxe thanks
Alec, you will probably never see this, but I wanted to say that I found your channel recently and despite knowing nothing about blacksmithing, I really love your videos. Keep up the fantastic work
Welcome to the blacksmithing community srynh!
I've been watching him evolve for a few years now and it's been super interesting to watch.
He will most likely see this too btw.
go back and check his early work out, it was way better. The stuff he has been putting out the past year is garbage.
@@Gantzz321 how so?
@@kiesh. just have to go watch and find out.
17:59 this is the laughter of pure unadulterated enjoyment. Love it
Wow, wow, wow! I'm blown away by those trousers. They look like the perfect thing for gun range wear and working in my shop.
@Alec Steele, I super appreciate how good a communicator you are. It is a rare talent to be good at both mechanical knowledge and communicating to a non-expert what you are doing. Thanks so much! You've made this travel quarantine a joy!
I always enjoy the collaborations you do.
Especially when you find you need a specific thing done and you don't have anything on hand that will suffice.
Need a tool, make a tool.
Awww yeah! Back to moving metal through heat and hammer! Thoroughly enjoying this project. Definitely going to go check out Tyler's channel as well!
So if I order a Pair of those Pants I will Officially have "Buns of Steele" lol
Nope. Most likely Steele Legs. 😁
Still waiting on that jacket...
Seeing Alec buy a new tool and get absolutely blow away by it and excited always makes my week a whole lot better
That music at the 12 minute mark sounds an awful lot like Black Betty and I love it!
This video was great! It had elements of the refined wise Alec, and the fun excited Alec!
Steam the felt and shape it like hat-makers do...
Yeah, duh!
Just steer clear of the mercury nitrate, or you'll end up as _mad as a hatter!_
I was thinking thinning the inside of where the felt would curve would get rid of the felt pushing against itself. Same idea used with people who work with foam and want it to curve/bend nicely.
@@thereluctantchef2204 The alternate would be to put some half cuts into the outside to allow it to 'stretch' out more. There'd just need to be enough, close enough together, to not leave large gaps. (For comfort reasons.)
@@NemoConsequentae or v cuts on the inside
Alec.
I started following you about 4y ago and mate you are an AMAZING inspiration.
Beem able to see your development as a person your progress as a craftsman and your growth as a business have given me undeserving lessons.
THANK YOU, mate.
Watching Alec use a needlegun for the first time reminded me of using one for my first time to bust rust in the navy, its pure magic
Love how Tyler has always a smile on his face 😄
Tip for bending sheet on a workbench. Clamp a piece of angle or flat stock on top of the piece and bend up.
Next - forged trusses for underneath the floor of his house to support the chair
The trusses are only for in case will sits down in the chair 🤪🤪😋
Ps love you will I always think you win the Steele vs Stelter
I love my needle scaler, I use it for removing old paint, forge scale and generally all that nasty work!
this project is pretty complicated, good work guys!
What a great episode Alec! Your knowledge never ceases to amaze me!
You are a savage of a businessman. Love your relentless pursuit.
I love episodes like this, that show you truly are a blacksmith and not just a weaponsmith. I am so getting a pair of those 👖 when they come out.
I love watching good craftsmen work.
wish you would make 25 episode weapon crafting again, where you spend months on making something absolutely perfect, perfectly balance, every millimeter exactly correct. that's what i subbed to see
i will like to be honest Alec your videos are the only videos in which i have watched the sponsor part, mainly because sometimes they are really some good companies trying to be sponsored and not cash grabs like shadow legends. keep it up
I've never seen someone have so much fun with a needle scaler before.
Pure joy.
That power hammer paint job is looking amazing!
haha I love needle scalers they're so helpful
You should make a tumbler. Putting the pieces in a tumbler for 15 min makes them look beautiful and scale free.
Cool cant wait til part 357 in 6 months time when its finally done
This isn't Will. If it was it would be 442 and then he would break it.
@@ColinRichards1 😅👏👏
Ohhhh, episode 357 is when they add the inlaid jewels and gold wire right?
So almost 2 parts daily? For 6 months? That would be heaven
@@lesedidlamini7699 for a weed smoking sloth maybe
So when's the new guy moving into the shop? Because nobody brings a vice for no reason.
Its like the toothbrush in a home!
I was thinking the same thing! It'll be awful for Tyler's personal UA-cam channel, but I think that he'd be an awesome new addition to this channel. Plus, if you watch his videos, it appears that he's still living at home and has a limited workshop. He'd definitely thrive with all of those tools.
My work has an air powered air needler that is shaped like a gun so you can have more forward pressure and stability. Also works great on weld berries
I would recommend some of those padded gloves if you are running that needle scaler for long periods of time. Those things can be brutal on your wrists after a while.
1 thing that i love about watching these videos are how much he does care about PPE and just being safe in general. some bosses needa take a leaf outta his book
The engine turning on the bottle opener is beautiful
Relief cut the foam to get a cleaner radius! Love the videos man. Always a nice way to chill after making.. watching someone else make :)
Step 1: forge a lounge chair
Step 2: lounge in a forged chair
Step 3: put Chair in a forged lounge.
Alec, I like the idea for the pants, are we going to see a double layer version similar to carheartt double fronts? I love these pants but I was hoping for a little more burn resistance out of carheartt considering slag still cuts right through them. Really interested in what you bring out in hopes it’ll be a little more resistant to heat!
At least an oiled leather apron/crotch front, one would hope.
The crowd cow ad was udderly amazing.
An ad for a more informationally transparent butcher shop on a blacksmith channel. I like it
take your CAD to the next level with a Space Mouse!
I love seeing a bit more hand forgeing than normal
I like the thumbnail color backgrounds that sort each series part.
The shot at 18:31 has legitimately awesome silhouettes and I wish I could pull off camerawork like that consistently.
20:15 Neodymium magnets do not like heat. Maybe they have lost some power because of ironing.
I love needle scale removers, they amazingly knock the crap right off of the steel.
i hope Will makes forged knives great again can't wait to see his first vid
That angle finder is rad!
Oh yeah!!! Thanks Alec!!!
"Introducting" lmao love your stuff Alec!
preform the fabric in shape with steam or hot water, like the Hatmaker do!
I would have cut a v shaped gouge in the back side of the felt to allow it to follow the curve of the seat. I absolutely love your show. I never miss an episode.
This is going to be the best Love Seat ever! ! !
I really liked the pacing of the time-lapse in this episode
Anvils, Grinders and Pants OH MY! How many "Irons in the fire" does Alec have going at once on any given day!?
Tyler's a natural.
17:59 He's gone mad with power!!
I love your channel man and your enthusiasm for your craft I always feel better after watching one of your videos.
Gotta love a leatherman! Great tools to help you create great tools 👍🏻
Alec have you ever seen that laser rust removal gun thingy?
Might work on scale, but works great with rust and paint.
GAHHHHH Navy Flashback!!!!! That freakin needle gun brought back a lot....
With the tenoning method shown the tenon is actually getting sheared as the shoulder gets formed(see how far off center the tenons ended up?). Creates all sorts of problems w/ layout(among other things). If you want forged angled tenons go through the process of forging corners at the desired angle first, add a convenience bend for tenoning and then monkey on the anvil.
Needle scalers were the bane of my life when I was in the Navy, We used them for cleaning up oxidized aluminum on the superstructure of the destroyer I was on.
"which one of these is fed up with existing"
Pick me
Hey I've been waiting my whole life for this opportunity!
School really getting to you eh?
I want that bottle opener. Headed to watch him make it.
I remember that bottle opener from a material supplier ad!
Needle scalers are great for texturing blades as well!
"Just needs a banana!"
Looking pretty Awesome so far. Can't wait for episode 3. And, yeah, with ideas like this and the pneumatic bottle opener, I'll go check out his channel. You never know what you might see that will strike inspiration into one of your own projects or inspire a fix on an issue you've been struggling with for quite some time.
That laugh when Alec uses the needle scaler on the hot steel is what pure joy sounds like
Not gonna lie, this is the first sponsorship I’m actually super interested in haha Chair is coming out even better than I imagined!
Who else wants to see Alec make more furniture out of metal? Me, I'd like to see him make an entire house out of steel and everything in it as well. It must all be hand forged or it doesn't count.
Love your content guys! Im always excited when i see a new Alec Steele video
You should make a sketch pad called the “Steele Sketchpad” and have measurement conversions and stuff in the front with graph paper and all sorts of pages in it for blacksmiths, fabricators, etc
Remember when you guys used to craft cool stuff instead of fixing your tools or making completely unusable lawn furniture? That was cool, you should do that again sometime.
The transition from "eh, it'll do" Alec to "actually this needs to fit properly" Alec is nearly complete :)
Looking good guys. I also noticed the pallets of anvils. Nice
I have no idea how many hours I used a Needle Gun during my 10 years in the US Navy. Great tool.
this is why i like alec
You should forge a holder for a propane torch, that thing is going COOOOOLLLLDDDD in the winter
I Spent an ungodly amount of time chipping rust of a Norwegian Navy-vessel with that tool, it really is pretty awesome/efficient, can confirm!
I'm actually liking this for that "crowd cow steak" you cooked up.
best sponsor ever!
