Alec Steele Blacksmith 2020
It's so ridiculous I LOVE IT! That was a ton of work. I had the best time hanging out man!
one auer laterur~ and still Alec has not replied....
Gonna subscribe to Tyler. And then I'll watch a bunch of his stuff.
Guys.. why, oh why, didn't you just add more fabric/felt so that you didn't have to cut down all those fasteners?.. 🤔 then the seat would be comfier? Yeah?
Tyler, that chair is cooler than a chair has right to be. Well done man, dig it! 😎👍
Send that chair to Brian Shaw!
Yes! So cool. You have super heavy duty shin killer bed, a stupid heavy forged chair, I think a couch is next.
Or a dining table
@@snyparaustralis540 And forged dining table chairs.
Yes! Forged sofa!
The Shin Killer Bed, with the Toe Smasher chairs, next comes the Elbow Slicing Dining Table (with a nice hardwood surface so Alec can get his woodworking practice in like he wanted)
A u-shaped couch
I think this is the closest we have ever come to seeing Alec mad.
except during the mountain bike build
Same guy
@@BloopTube nope! Dropped a good one when he saw the snake while riding.
@@Dewskerz I was about to write the same lol
Is anyone going to point out the fact that Alec is wearing a shirt that says “it’s not stupid if I works” and yet he calls it a STUPID heavy char.
‘I’m not really a thrower of things but...’
LMAO! I always tell my wife I need to be more like Alec when things go wrong-
You’ve got a far better attitude when things go wrong than I- that got me and my wife rolling
Normal sized chairs are the best! Wish I could use them 😔
Smallpoc gang rise up
Dont worry Eli. You're channel will grow big and strong enough for a normal chair some day
Soon Eli can have his own stupid brown pants lol
This is not the comment I was expecting, but I'm glad I found it.
Those Cleavers i bought from you are the same size for me. I think im a smallpoc sufferer
We need a final stelter vs steele before we loose will.
@Dogurasu Steele vs. Stelter in Will's shop. Mix it up a bit. Is there a home advantage.
@@nathan87 do like a annually comp between them
Will better start a channel.
A PIZZA party perhaps. Will has a new pixxa oven at his house.
Lose bro
"The pants are dropping the 2nd of November"... Y'all catch that?? Bahahha
Hey Alec, Long Time Subscriber. Here's an idea for a Rocking Chair if you ever want to forge one... Super Comfy (even more than the one in the video). You take a Car Coil Spring, Cut it so that you have 1 1/2 winding of the spring x 2. Forge a Chair Base, put aside. Forge a Seat, put aside. Use 2 of the coil windings - one on the left, one of the right side of the chair, put them vertifcal between the seat and base of the chair (so that if you look at the chair from the side you see an O) and weld it to the seat and the base. End result is as you rock forward and back the 2 x coil sections compresses and releases. I have a set of 8 of these, the best rocking chairs ever.
Watching you really push yourself takes me back to the old days of the channel and is something I love. Thank you for this.
Tyler makes a good wingman. Watched his videos and subscribed, his enthusiasm is wonderful! Also I hope you sent him home with some work pants.
Thanks! Wear em every day!
So that's what a blacksmiths throne looks like, absolutely loving it!!!
Loved this series! Tyler Bell is an incredibly talented maker who I feel is on the cusp of blowing up. You gents made a work of art. Well done.
Time to invest in a set of collets, a collet chuck, and some collet holders. Turn to the machinist dark side.
man i'm still dreaming of owning a 4 jaw chuck..
Just an incredible piece of art! Jamie also continues to impress, with the best montages on UA-cam... Cheers to the whole crew!
At work we have a “Rage Wall” that we chuck our ruined work at. We’ve upgraded it by putting steel plates up with kevlar cloth on the floor to stop burning. It’s always fun to hear an expletive than huge bang
Certified Thrower of Things here. Gotta say this turned out far better than I expected. It may be the most impractical chair ever built, but it looks pretty dang good. I think my favorite feature is the through tenon joinery. Something about that puts it over the top for me. Thanks for sharing!
I'm really enjoying Alec building more demanding metal machinery
i love the chair ^^ just a tiny little thing .. you should have included a felt patch below the legs to not scratch the floor and allow it to be moved a bit more easy
I like the contrast of the delicate and precise nature and design of the chair contrasted with the heavy roughness of the forged nature of the chair.
What's the word when something is stupid, ugly, and utterly cool at the same time?
Definitely hope to see Tyler again. Projects like this give me hope for the future!
Alec, when you say “this is a thrill” is that your way of saying. “This is frustrating beyond description, but I’m already waist deep into this project and can’t give up now!”??? 😂 I seriously admire your endurance in your projects.
Love the way the chair came out! And you two working together was fun to watch!
that thing looks amazing!! i think a dark wood for the seat bucket would make it look super classy too with the forged base/arm rests
A fantasic piece of functional & comfortable design. When made by someone skilled, form following function can look wonderful!
Alec, take a vacation. You deserve it and need it. Much respect.
That looks like it will be enjoyed for generations to come!
It would be cool to see more structural forging projects, maybe some trellis work (Like old wrought iron gates)?
Great Collab - really Love the Energy between You two. UA-cam should probably do this again.
Love the complex forging videos. The hammer restoration video and this one have been my favorite that you've put out in a while
3:26.... THANK YOU EDITOR! That was great.
Love how much you’re enjoying that needle scaler 😂 excited to see you use it in nonconventional ways, texturing copper maybe? Always an inspiration you are brother
It's not a stupid chair it's a solid chair, a piece of art, worth a fortune amongst a number of designer codes.
“Curb your... sanding tool technique “ XD
Loving seeing you make something that's a danger to life and limb by mistake, not by design! More non-lethal stuff please.
Alec leaning his head against that white board is the mood of every maker who has hit “that point” of a project.
AH ALEC! ive watched every single one of your videos and your stuff has been what got me started on blacksmithing! im in the process of making my very first knife and i never get tired of your vids! im also seriously considering getting those pants! keep doing what you are doing! YOU ARE SO COOL (im 16 so i feel like we sorta kinda started around the same time!)
This is excellent... I love it when you forge different things like the pizza cutter and this chair.
The fact that the music at 11:32 is a version of the Avengers theme just amplifies how good this video is! Good stuff guys!
That chair will someday be found in the rubble of the apocalypse. One lasting reminder of our time!
Its good to see you're learning. Its fun to make your own tools, if only they need to work one time its still fun.
Probably my favorite channel on UA-cam
I'm finding these videos restoring machinery and creating new items of contemporary design where you are pushing your mental forging skill sets to be far more interesting.
you coulda just... made a pair of leafsprings to serve as the back support, have them integrated into the back legs to make a parentheses shape. This way you get your flex, without getting a stress point anywhere.
Nice chair though, i really like it.
It turned out very unique and awesome design idea. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work of both of you forge on and keep making greatness
this chair ended WAY BETTER than I though. congratulations Tyler and Alex!
Stoked to see Tyler Bell on this channel. The chair came out great, you guys!
Must say that is the most awesome chair ever!! Now you will need the rest of the lounge set!
I absolutely love your videos! Your videos have been very helpful to me on my journey to be successful as a blacksmith. Thank you.
Never before has a throne been so befitting its king.
Epic! Well worth waiting for Alex and Tyler to plonk down on it and see the grin!
Great series! Another collab with Tyler would be awesome!!
You make great content Alec. Some of the swords and axes you make are incredible. But I have to say something magical happens when you make furniture.
It’s awesome, you just need a whole set now.. they would make great patio furniture
Just got home, started watching it, 4 minutes in I look and see there’s little comments and realized I got home as soon as you uploaded and I’m perfectly on time
I love chairs
I think this has been my favorite series of videos you have made in a while.
Good job!
Amazing effort. The bare felt feels like a missed opportunity for Alec to go back to his leather working days and throw a nice hide over the top. But there was obviously time restraints.
Hii, I love your content and you have been a huge inspiration to get me to building things, keep up the great work
I'm sure my comment will get lost but I really have always wanted a blacksmith to build the nanatsu saya no tachi , or seven branches sword. I believe no one could make it more beautiful than you!
That chair turned out awesome! Great work guys!
Ladies and Gentlemen the only lawn chair in the world that will NOT blow away in a category 5 hurricane. Nice chair guys!!
Steel Co. flat packed furniture. Complete with allen key and blow torch for diy assembly.
Glad to see you enjoying the thrill of testing your skills Alec!
Awesome chair you both built. Just amazing work. Stay safe Alec
Perfect gift for mad chair throwing bosses.
Phenomenal build. I enjoyed this 3 part series.
A really nice chair!! Well done you both! 👍😁
Badassssss!!! Glad you introduced him. Digging Tyler’s channel!!
I typically think something other than 'Gee Wiz' when I want to throw a piece I'm working on. Alec's a better man than me. :)
it came out cooler than i thought it would, this was a really cool project. great job fellas!!
An idea just occured to me for Alec. What if Alec had a rotating partner like Dr Who? First it was Will, then it would be someone else for a year. At the end of a year that partner moves onto other things and Alec's new companion joins the team. Would be interesting to see all the new skills/projects each partner brings to the shop.
Very cool chair! If you want it to flex leave the rear bolts out. They aren't needed to keep the chair together, just the front bolts. Or, you could bolt the rear with a single bolt in the middle. That way you don't concentrate the stress at the back and maintain the strength.
Result looks really nice!
I love watching content like this
It would be great to see you get back into gold inlays and diamond setting again Alec. Maybe the next piece 🤷♂️🤌
Watching that vise walkabout while hammering on that metal. Alex, you need to have Jason to build you a clone of his new giant vise. That won't move while you're beating on things!
That came out so good!!!
Tyler's shirt at the end ain't half bad either ;)
that anvil finishing rig is almost exactly what I imagined back when you first posted about the anvils
There are brass Chicago screws for leather. They can be used on very thin material.
Over engineering on how to cut bolts and nuts shorter 🤣
That is so cool. I would love to try this one day.
Great series boys, I enjoyed seeing Alec again, I hadn't really watched you since a few months after you moved to the states. My favorite build is still the viking battle axe.
If you want shorter bolts screw on a nut to the right length, clamp it in the vise, cut it to length with a cutoff wheel, and the when you unscrew the nut it cleans up the threads. Works great.
This chair will for sure outlive even the very last roach after the nuclear apocalypse.
The work trousers make those boys look very nice.
That is so unbelievably cool.
I love this!!!!!
One of my favourite projects. I would love to own one of these.
Great chair Alex and it has an enormous advantage over other chairs. No one will run off with it 🤣🤣🤣
WELL DONE BOYS!! It looks awesome!!
run a canvas back strap across the backrest to halt motion and prevent stress on the seat mounting points. As an upholsterer that is what I would do.
Thanks for sharing!
He said “making things is hard.” And I felt that in my soul
Now you need the Alec steel Damascus throne
Outstanding Well Done!
I think adding leather on top of the felt would make it look a lot better.
That was a nice brain fart in the beginning. I was thinking "why don't they just shorten the bolt?". Well sometimes you are unlucky when you think. 😉
They had to shorten the barrels to 3/8" regardless.
Epic weapon reveal music for a chair, hilarious!
You should wrap the felt and steel in the same material your new pants are made of. But keep the fasteners on top cause they do look cool showing.
Good call on using bolts to hold the felt, i would assume the magnets would have allowed the felt to slide around while sitting/leaning in the chair :)
I am getting a premonition of holes in someone's floor made by stupid-heavy forged chair legs :D
