Ace, by his own admission, just winging it on stage.....his sloppiness and imperfections make for legendary rock and roll guitar tone dynamics.....Gene and Paul is the heart of Kiss, but Ace is the soul that lives on forever after the heart dies!
This was the first time they played in that lineup since 1979. Both Ace and Peter were having troubles with coming back into playing KISS old stuff, while Paul and Gene had been all the time together. Tommy Thayer, KISS current guitarist was the person to help them get back on the right track before this concert, but since it was pretty rushed, and there was not that much time to practice, it all shows up here with lots of imperfections. Also remember that this show wasnt just any show. This was a big gamble for KISS. Basically a few months ago you were seeing them on conventions, doing Q&A, and stuff, like a band that used to be on top, but is slowly going for retirement, doing albums and occasionally coming back live. And suddenly you hear that they are going to make a huge comeback, and bring back all the nostalgia that made KISS famous with original (troublesome) members. Originally they thought about giving small shows first, but they decided to go for Tiger Stadium, which was quite massive compared to the audiences they were having during 80s and earlier 90s. The show was sold within an hour. Its obvious that even though they were already many years on stage, it was pretty stressful situation, because fans were waiting for this stuff for ages, bugging them since mid 80s to come back in their original style. And you can see that on the beginning they are not the usual cool KISS, but rather scared of the unknown outcome. Seems like some guys from audience also felt a bit disappointed, as you have got cups flying, and even some chairs.
