Peter's singing was fantastic!!! Black Diamond, Hard Luck woman, Beth, and Strange Ways!!! He also came from a blues and jazz background and was actually very technically sound and incorporated it into Rock and Roll and in his prime he had a amazing unique drumming style and hit the skins very well!!!! Thanks 👍

@@kevinchandler179 Oh it was incredible let me tell you. It was the very first time seeing these 2 bands live. My twin brother took me because he was a huge KISS fan, and I had just bought Cheap Trick's album In Color at Tower Records in San Francisco just because of the album cover. Never heard their music before. But once I put the album on my turntable I was hooked. Because Cheap Trick was just starting out on their first major tour opening for KISS (this is a year before their historic concert at Budokan in Japan) they only played about 40 minutes with no encore. But they were entertaining and solid and a fun band to see live. To this very date in 2024, I've only seen KISS that one time in 1977, but I've seen Cheap Trick at least 25 times live since that very first time. Sometimes you just get lucky in life!!!!!!!! 👍😆🎸

It is really hard to describe the impact these guys had on a 9 year old in 1974!I had been listening to Steppenwolf and the Stones
back then because of my dad and the radio but KIss was from another planet to me! I will never forget being in the department store called "Two guys" and seeing the cover to "Dressed to kill"! I had a hard time comprehending them? They had business suits on but wore painted faces??? WTF? Needless to say i had my grandfather buy me that record and i was a instant fan from the first song "Room Service. The the next track was "Two timer" and had that heavy bassy intro riff that really attracted me.Anyway i knew very little about them because there was no internet and i was not buying magazines. Then it happened! I seen them on The midnight special" preforming "Duece" "Cmon and love me" "She" and "Black diamond" I was totally hypnotized by them! The Music.,The Look, the stage show it was a LOT to take in for a kid! Shortly after seeing them on that show KISS ALIVE" came out and to this day is one of my all time favorite records! Then a few months later i got to see them at the Philadelphia convention center for the Alive tour, what a memory seeing them that night gave me!

You sound like a clone of me, I was 14 in 1976, had been listening to Kiss for a few years at this point. I remember going to the mall with my Mom back in maybe 1974, we went into JC Penny and I went over to the record department, yes, they had a record department back then. I was looking through all of the albums and came across the first Kiss album, all black, White and Silver, just the 4 members on the cover. I picked it up and said who is this, I took the album and went and found my Mom and asked her could I get it, I showed it to her, she said what the hell is that and got it for me. From that day I became a Kiss freak, the walls in my room were covered in everything Kiss, my Grandmother who was really religious would not go in my room, she said the Devil was in there. I listened to the same music you mention, I loved Thin Lizzy what a tight outfit they were, also back then I listened to Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, ACDC, Queen, Bowie, The Cars, Black Sabbath, Rush, Bad Company, Journey, Pink Floyd, Heart, ZZ Top, UFO, Foghat, Cheap Trick just to name a few, well maybe more than a few.

We all collected everything Kiss, the albums, magazines, Kiss bubble gum cards, tour books, Kiss radio, we all made scrap books out of pictures we cut from magazines. Back in the 70's magazine companies would release an entire magazine with nothing but Kiss, I would buy Two and use One for the scrap books, I saw Kiss on their Alive II tour in Cleveland back in 78, then once in the mid 80's no makeup in San Diego CA, then again in 96 on their reunion tour in San Diego.

15th November 1980… VFL Park Melbourne, Australia. Travelled with my bestie from Hobart, Tasmania. We were both 17 years old. This was my 18th birthday present. We thought we were sooooo special. The air fare, accommodation & ticket package turned out that we were staying at the same hotel as the band 😂😂😂 Did we think we were special. We had a special pass that allowed us to enter the hotel….. fans on the street 24 hours a day. Ended up making our way to the front row (no seating numbers).
They walked on stage and I was gob smacked for about a minute. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Then I had the most amazing time with my bestie in the front row of a KISS concert. My bestie & I are now 61 years old.
The thing I ask is don’t think of us older generations to be old cronies in the world of music.
Think…. KISS, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd… David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Queen…. what a great time to be alive. No I don’t want to go back and reminisce about the old times…. Which I do when I want to listen to music from my early years…. I also like contemporary music of the 2020’s.
Sorry a bit carried away…. But this doco brought me back to an amazing time of my life.

Much is made of the fact that they weren't expert musicians, but I think they were always exactly as good as their material required them to be. And they did get better. Gene's descending bass lines on Rock and Roll All Nite are actually really cool. Ace's solo on Got To Choose is one of many where he amplifies and ties the whole song together. Paul matching Ace's phrasing and vibrato so precisely when they did harmony leads is also really nice. It's two Les Pauls into a bunch of Marshalls, what's not to like? Peter's quarter note highhat groove on Firehouse feels good to me. Their vocal harmonies were solid. These are all old tricks but they're executed well. They weren't gonna scare Mahavishnu Orchestra, but they were just fine.

Same here. To be a kid in the 70’s was just the best. It was incredible…the magazines…the records…and when they were on television, holy crap was that an event for a 5,6,7 year old like me. And the dream of portraying Peter just took it over the top for me. Kids today will never know that feeling. It was just an amazing time.

At the end of the 90's KISS was playing our local amphitheatre in Marysville, CA. I was older and it was going to be my last concert. I did it the old skool way. I had a friend drop me off at the gate and I hitched home after the concert. My last blast. My best friend who would have gone had just died.

Born in 63 and loved harder rock. When these guys came along I was loving it! I had all the albums the belt buckle, posters etc....but the end came for me and my friends when the solo albums and the disco influence took place. Once Ace and Peter were gone then so were we and off too Judas Priest, Ted Nugent etc....never looked back and Kiss would never again reach the popularity they had that came from the early HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS albums.....

The thing I love about this documentary is the history about the early formation. Not the negative Peter would never do this and both Ace and Peter did drugs to help them throw away everything we worked for. Its hard to accept that it might be true but even harder to read.

HUGE flame that landed on the junior high stage while we were finishing firehouse! Me and the bass player never stopped! 1976. I was twelve years old and starting seventh grade in a new school, new town. My older brother and sisters were all listening to Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath, and Peter Frampton. Definitely great bands. Then a guy in my class turned me on to Kiss. I was hooked instantly. For almost three years they were the be all and end all for me. Then came Dynasty. My friends and I were all like what in the actual f**k is this?!? That was it. I followed them for a couple of more years just out of sheer morbid curiosity only to watch them fall on their faces. When Creatures came out in 82, I knew it was too little, too late. Unfortunate, because that’s actually one of their best studio releases.

I was 10 in 1978.. Kiss were everything that a person could aspire to be. It took me a LOOOOONG time to finally realize what a complete POS the Phantom of the Park movie was. I remember very clearly not making it home in time to catch the first half of the flick when they showed it on TV. 79? 80? Don't even remember. But I was sure it was going to be the coolest thing ever. I ran downstairs and flipped it on and it made no sense AT ALL.
The same year, a classmate would invent a Kiss-like band and draw up comics for us, the members. We had powers like the band did in the movie, and we wore makeup and thought we were pretty effin cool. Bob Dickinson, if you still have those comics, let's talk about a film project. ;)
