I always loved Simon Kirke’s straightforward approach. To me, he’s one of the most important (and underrated) drummers from the “Golden Era” of rock, and responsible for some of the most iconic tracks ever laid down. As usual, George faithfully captures the feel, sound, and atmosphere of the track as it was when it was first released in 1975. Thanks George for recognizing Simon’s contribution to the genre, and representing it so beautifully here. Can’t wait for more!
It really sounds like Bonzo played this song with Bad Co. back in 1974. You do the impossible things, dear George. You turn fantasy into reality. Thanks again for your incredible work!
Killer tune a breath of fresh air!!! I think that this tune should've been on an album!!! Everything about this song KICKS BUTT!!! TIME AND TRANSITIONS ARE SMOOTH AS BUTTER!!! I LOVE IT!!! THANKS FOR PULLING THEM OUT OF THE VAULT😊 I HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR YOU 100% AND A TON OF THE OTHER FOLLOWERS DO AS WELL!!! THANKS BROTHER DRUMMER 🙏
This and songs by Foreigner were the first I learned when I was 12. I snuck into my brothers room (when he was at work) with the Slingerland/Zildjians and learned off the books. Thanks for the memories George!
Fabulous George. One of my all time greats & got to see Simon guest with Freeway tribute band 2012. Just happened to catch him and a quick 2 min hello. One of my teenage year bands with Free. I was in awe to briefly meet one of my hero's, I even requested Rhythm magazine do Play Alongs for All Right Now & Can't Get Enough, which they kindly published
Think Bad Company were the first band signed to Zeppelin's Swan song label and the first album went to No 1 (think) Bonzo & Simon had a good friendship
Hope you’re well ! Those are some of the best sounding cymbals according to my ears. They complement each other so well. Just love listening to you play ! Thank you again for sharing with us. Blessings, Brian
Good job brother I was going to mention the swansong label but the guy before me did Peter Grant protected bad company as well as he did Zeppelin keep doing covers ✌ Hey to Terry
Excellent George! I love Simon Kirke's drumming. He's underrated I think. One of my favorites by him, & Bad Co., is 'Deal With A Preacher' from the Straight Shooter album. I believe, Simon is also one of the very few other guests / drummers ever to play with Zeppelin, when he played Whole Lotta Love along with Bonzo in Munich in 1980. (There was of course, also Moonie's drunken debauchery in LA one year too! Cool you got to meet and hang with Boz, that must have been fun! ✌❤🥁
Great cover Geo! The S.S. kit is sounding great, but I get the feeling the black sparkle Legacy kit is in full blown 'Simple Minds' mode.... you know, "Don't you, forget about me!"
Mel Gaynor from Simple Minds had some great chops, their music really did not let his style come out as much, but you can hear he was ready to burst out at any moment if their music allowed him to. Listen to "Come A Long Way" from Once Upon A Time- remastered long version, it ROCKS!! He was a Bonham fan too.
Great - a fantastic tribute to Simon Kirke. As ever you nailed his relaxed style. Thank you. Saw Bad Co at the Liverpool Empire about 1979 with my girlfriend now my wife ! I had dislocated my shoulder so all I could do was stick my thumb up in the air ! He’s lived in New York for over 25 years now and after 9/11 knowing the city he drove rescuers and medical staff etc never revealing who he was. A real gentleman. He grew up on the Welsh border near Ludlow - only about 30 miles from Stourbridge where Robert Plant went to school. That’s about 70 mile south of us. Hope all is well with you and your family. Hope you are touring soon !! 😀🏴🥁🥁🥁🥁👍🏼
BadCo! George you inspire me to play better! Could you please give us an instructional video on hand technique? Going from French timpani into German timpani and then into Moeller. And how this relates to Bonzo’s playing. Keep rocking on
Thanks. I don't know if I can speak with that much authority about the different techniques, but I have utilized a combo of them in my own homespun way. I'll try to make a vid on that though.
Great! I noticed on the We’re Gonna Groove video that you would let your index finger off the stick when accenting, but then return it when ghosting notes or playing intricate. Bonzo’s technique is markedly different from the bent over posture and mostly arms of We”re Gonna Groove RAH 1970 to an upright posture and hand technique of 1979 Knebworh Kashmir. If we all keep learning and hoping, maybe “The tune will come to you at last”. Thanks for your insight and generosity.
and now ladies and gentleman i like to turn your attention too a luvly bloke from across the pond who they say has a big heart big smile and a huge luv of banging the bloody hell out of everything...😋😋😋we give you Americas own Wreck it George...(just funnin) When played properly Bad Company is very much Great Company. ty for the share friend.
Ahhhhhh way back when the best was cruisin' on the back roads and the party was on****JAMMING on the back roads and STEREO FULL BLAST!!! and not a care in the world!!! OH yeah enjoying the left handed cigarettes!!! hint hint wink wink!!! (
@@tambourini I showed a girl I worked with in the early 90s how to play 2 & 4 on drums. She'd jam merrily along to Bad Co ballads like this and uptempo rockers like Sweet Little Sister and Can't Get Enough of Your Love. But a 5/4 time signature like Soundgarden's My Wave thoroughly discombobulated her (and I'd hide my Rush albums from her).
@DAGDRUM5 Great story...and sad. I love "odd" time signatures and so want to 'master' syncopation and subdivisions! I need to take more time to practice and I need to re-start private lessons! My Rush albums are front and center! My first teacher was Steve Negus (original drummer for Saga) and, interestingly, left-hand dominant. (Sorry, can't help name dropping 'cuz it's a longer, cool story how we met and he became my instructor!) Once I got 4/4 down, he said I could play almost anything, which I found unbelievable and encouraging! I quickly got bored with 4/4 but now realize that I'd become a snob! After all, I'm still a beginner, really! Ha!
@@tambourini You're not a beginner, you're what Danny Gottlieb calls 'an eternal student,' someone who never stops learning. Drummers should never be satisfied with their playing but always looking for new ways to grow, new musical ground to break, even if it means playing country & western.

Love the dynamics when it gets to the guitar solo. Mick and Simon knew how to punch up a song. Very amazingly rendered once again, George
Tremendous George great song underrated Drummer Simon Kirke was great 👍
