I think the “shooting star “ reference is that a shooting star zooms across the sky, brilliant and bright for only a brief moment and then burns out.... like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, etc. I think it is uplifting that he is going to follow his dream, but fame and stardom, like life, is fleeting. This one always touches my heart when I hear it. The way they sing "Don't you know..." is tender and emotional. Almost feels like gospel music. And the ending, of course, is tragic and sadly far too common among celebrities. It's a good warning for up-and-comers in that world...don't tie up your self-worth in how "successful" or "famous" you are. Such things are usually fleeting. Let something else define you, like your happiness with your art. Or your kindness, what you've done for friends and family, etc.

"Don't you know that you are a shooting star & all the world will love you, just as long as you are". That line is haunting to me. As if saying everyone will love you as long as you are up on top. Once you fall from the sky, you are gone & forgotten. But as we all know, through music, these great artists will live forever. Unlike us. After all of the greats have fallen to time, their spirits live on in their music. If you have the time to listen you can still hear them all. How many times have you thought that you heard gentle music come from smoke from a campfire? All of their songs live on inside us.
Paul Rodgers, probably a top 5 voice to ever grace the rock & roll genre and imo the guy who invented swagger on stage & on vinyl. Also a helluva nice man
Paul Rogers is my favorite rock n roll singer of all time. He doesn't showcase all his vocal talent in this song but did exactly what was needed to make it great.
So how about a theme day... Songs about being in a band:. Lynyrd Skynyrd -Workin for MCA, Pink Floyd - Have a Cigar, The Byrd's - So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star, Moody Blues - I'm just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band....
After hundreds of listenings to this one, I still can't make it through it without tears. It's not just the lyrics. This one is more than the sum of its parts in the way it evokes my emotion.
My first reaction to this was when i was a pre-teen, and hearing from my older brother that this was the song they played at his friend's funeral, who died of leukemia at 17, because it was his favorite song. It's been one of my favorite songs ever since, because it's so great, and so true.
My favorite Bad Co. song. As much for the story as the music. The way that popularity is such a fleeting thing but in the long run can be eternal. "If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play". Chills every time!

All right my babies.... I've seen Bad Company live in concert a few times, and I got to say every time they play this song, it brings teardrops in my eyes. Paul Rodgers' vocals are incredible! 😎👍🏼
PS...I am not worthy Paul Rogers to hear that magnificent instrument you have. Ever since "All Right Now" your voice has captured my heart and soul. Just as Karen Carpenter has captured my musical soul, so have you my rock soul. Hugs always and blessings from NC!!!!!
I was lucky enough to see Bad Company in concert a couple of times back in the day. They were an awesome live group. My favorite song is “Seagull” 👵🏼❤️✌🏼😎
Paul Rodgers is one of the best voices in all of rock music. From his first group Free, with their hit All Right Now (there is an official live version of this song. Absolutely epic!). I saw his second band, Bad Company in 1976 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The best concert I ever saw. The crowd went insane, and they had to do 3 more ohn curs! Later band The Firm, he was approached to be lead singer of Deep Purple and Black Sabath. He did replace Freddie Mercury in Queen. John Mellencamp called Rodgers "the best rock singer ever"
This is probably my favorite Bad Company song as it was the first I was introduced to. I can still hear the scratch of the vinyl. “Silver, Blie and Gold” is my next favorite.
This song always makes me think of Paul Kossoff who was guitarist with Free and died aged 25 so epitomises a Shooting Star. I don't know if it was written about him but it could have been as Rodgers knew him well
Running With The Pack, Ready For Love, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy, Electricland, Seagull...Bad Company is one of my all time favorite groups. Back in the 80's, we played the heck outta Rock 'n' roll Fantasy and Feel Like Making Love. great band!
I hope it's not just me,when I say It makes me sad all of the artists dying too soon over the years. From Buddy Holly to Kurt Cobain on up; how much more music could we have had from them. I'll just say love y'all still& RIP.
This takes me straight back to my freshman year in high school. This song was huge and Bad Company was everywhere. They have put out some great music and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard this for the first time. Just damn good times back then as a teenager!
Don’t forget that at the time this was written recording contracts were often so one-sided that writing hit songs didn’t move you to the “big time”, financially speaking.
Bad Co was one of my favorite bands in High school.... check out their song, Silver, Blue & Gold... Loved Paul Rogers vocals starting from his days with the band Free... All right now fame
Ive heard this song a million times through the years and it just dawned on me that Johnny's death was a choice by liquor and pills and not an accident. I think because I always heard this as a kid , the idea of someone choosing to take their own life was unthinkable to me. As an adult for many years now and having have lost many people to suicide through the years it hits me and makes this song a bit darker but also more poignant in its emphasis on the positives on Johnny's lIfe. Sorry for the long sentiment here but just had to talk it out. Suicide is and can be such a horrible thing in this world.
Paul Rodgers voice defined this band. He is one of the best rock vocalists. His riffs can create a whole other level to the song he's singing. His voice is an instrument. Love you 2

Also a helluva nice man
This is my favorite Bad Company song, hands down.
Paul Rogers is my favorite rock n roll singer of all time. He doesn't showcase all his vocal talent in this song but did exactly what was needed to make it great.
Mine too....agreed!!
I believe that before becoming Bad Comp, they had a hit called Alright Now, as a group called Free
A tremendous band talented musically and vocally. This song to me is one of the best story songs maybe in the top 5

I still know every single word! Great song, love Bad Company.
Wife here...My galpals and I sang the HECK out of this song in Junior High!!!..We were HUGE Bad Company fans..Soooo emotional..With cool hard guitar..Perfect
I remember I used to know every word to this song back in the 70s. Great storytelling. Most shooting stars come from nothing, and this is one example of it.
I thinks me jay loves some big powerful guitar solos. How far you have come young man from hip hop and rap my bro!!!!!
Happy Father's Day Jay! Hope you have been having a good Father's Day with your loved ones my brother!
You kids make me smile and you definitely know good music.
So many of my favorite artists died at a young age! This song always plays to my heart.
Total masters of their craft. This song has every element in spades.
Good stuff!! Led Zeppelin actually signed them to their label. Need to do Can’t Get Enough of Your Love and The song Bad Company!!
This song tells the lives of so many artists, Jimi, Janis and SRV are just a few
I was lucky enough to see Bad Company in concert a couple of times back in the day. They were an awesome live group. My favorite song is “Seagull” 👵🏼❤️✌🏼😎
Everyone was so talented and LOVED to play their instruments. Listen to the guitar leads... soooo tasty, so expressive, he makes it talk!
Played this song probably more than a thousand times back in the day! Sad, but beautiful... Great band and lead singer Paul Rodgers was awesome!
I don't know if it was written about him but it could have been as Rodgers knew him well
So many great songs from this band. “Shooting Star” is great, but “Simple Man” is awesome, too. ❤️
BadCo one of my favorite 70s bands... I never missed their concert tours
Paul Rodgers has a brilliant voice and was also the voice of the band Free previously with numbers like Wishing Well, Alright Now and My Brother Jake!
One of my favorite songs ever, I love everything about it. Drums, guitar, vocals and lyrics!! Awesome song 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵
Amber has always to me had that southern blues plus also rock vibe in her life thanks to her momma!!!!
Remind anyone else of "Jukebox Hero"? Great song!!!🎶🎼🎵🎤🎸🎹🎙🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorites. Paul Rodgers is the best damn vocalist in classic rock history.
One of my favorites!
Had all the 8 tracks!
Most haunting voices in rock!
Silver Blue And Gold....Another good one from Bad Co.
Good one! I always forget that one :(
One of my favorites from them.
Paul Rodgers voice defined this band. He is one of the best rock vocalists. His riffs can create a whole other level to the song he's singing. His voice is an instrument. Love you 2
Saw Bad Co. in concert in 1981. They were the 2nd best concert I've ever seen. Only person ahead of them was Prince's Purple Rain Tour. 👍🏽👍🏽🎶💙
The Purple Rain tour was the best concert ANYONE has EVER seen...
Great band and an absolute amazing song.
this has always been my favorite Bad Company song....uplifting with a so sad ending!!
I’ve been to many of their concerts.. I still love their music..
