    Very cool , knowing your polar patterns is paramount.
    I didn’t expect so much off axis rejection that separation was intense 🤘🏽

    Just tried your technique, worked extremely well! I've tried other figure 8 setups but your particular off axis mic placement has been the best so far. Thank you.

    Why not use a cardioid pattern. Would that not reject everything but what is directly in front?

    • @LEWITT-audio
      @LEWITT-audio  Рік тому +1

      Cardioid has great rear rejection but not great side rejection, so you'll end up getting more bleed in this kind of setup. Figure 8 has amazing side rejection so you can use that to your advantage with close mic placements to isolate what you're recording. Super cardioid would work nicely as well.

    Marvelous as always LEWITT! I keep asking this question, but so far nobody seems to answer... why two figure 8 patterns? wouldn't two cardioid facing the same as these work as well or better?? Also, don't the figure 8 pick up from the back too, so picking up the room (be it well treated or badly)...
    Two new mics for my shopping list anyway!! #MakeYourselfHeard

      🙄☝️ It's exactly what I thought when I saw the video. I agree, two cardioid mics will do a better job!

    • @LEWITT-audio
      @LEWITT-audio  2 роки тому +1

      That's a great question! Cardioid patterns have excellent rear rejection but are not as good at side rejection so would result in a lot more bleed. Hyper cardioid is better but figure-8 has the best side rejection so it makes it easier to angle them in a way to reduce bleed. Room ambience is a factor, but not as big of an issue as you might think if you are in a decently treated room. You can hear in the video--not much of the room is getting into the recording!

    • @malevahouse
      @malevahouse 2 роки тому

      @@LEWITT-audio 🙅‍♀️🤷‍♀️ The difference in side rejection is minimal, it also depends on the frequency range, and there is no doubt that the back reflection is higher in the cardioid 😊😉 By the way, in this video you say that a cardioid mic would be better 😏👉 ua-cam.com/video/FI-av2oqxpo/v-deo.html

    Hi there. Was this recorded in a treated room? Asking because when I've tried to use a condensers in Figure 8 at home I've had no luck - untreated bedroom is just too reflective and hypercardioid has been a better option

    • @LEWITT-audio
      @LEWITT-audio  9 місяців тому

      Hey, thanks for the question. Brian here, I have about six 4" thick panels that are 15"x48" around my room and some additional 2inch absorbers above (ceiling) and behind my desk. So yes there is some treatment, but not a huge amount. It definitely helps to have a room with minimal reflections, but also proximity to the mic is important to increase insolation.

      I had the same question: my separation wasn't as good as in this video at figure 8. I moved the micstand towards my bookshelves. That's kind of an acoustic treatment 😅. The position of the mics is most important in fig8 setup. Try to play with the angle of the mics, play with the distance from one mic to the other. I found out it is inertial how much you tilt them for cancellation. My best result was: one mic very near to the 12 fret of the guitar, mic points to an area between 12 fret and the tuners of the guitar and is tilted a bit downward to make the voice go in the 8 shape where it's not picked up. The voice mic up up high far away from the guitar mic only tilted a bit (at least less than I had thought) to not pickup the guitar. I have almost the results of the video, and I didn't use Lewitt Mics but a pair of other midclass switchable condenser mics😊

    Is it good combination - LCT 140 AIR for guitar and LCT 441 Flex for vocal for separate recording at the same time?

    • @LEWITT-audio
      @LEWITT-audio  Рік тому +1

      Yeah that should work great! You could experiment with the angle of the LCT 140 AIR to reject more vocal and use either Figure 8 or Super cardioid on the LCT 441 FLEX to isolate the vocal from the guitar a little more. You'll always get a little bleed, but it should still sound great all together!

    • @stanislavmirchev
      @stanislavmirchev Рік тому

      @@LEWITT-audio Yes, in general I'm not looking for studio quality and sterile sound, I want it to sound natural but with the option of slight adjustments to the voice and guitar.

      Yes, it is possible to use an LCT 440 PURE with Focusrite Scarlett Solo. But please take into consideration that you can connect only 1 microphone to this interface. If you want to use a setup like the one in the video, then you would need to get an interface with 2 inputs at least (like for example Scarlett 2i2). Hope it helps!
