“The Director” literally confirmed that Sam Lake in OUR reality is in fact the ultimate master of many worlds and the writer of the first word (not the last). The Dark Place is called the Dark Place because it’s the darkness of our TV screens when they’re shut off. And when they’re not being played/watched/consumed those realities are nothing, nonexistent. They only exist when we open the thresholds if you will.
The Waitress section could be partly created by her fanfiction being affected by the Dark Place but it's too weird and happy for the Dark Place and Scracth to use to escape.
Agreed - but maybe the point was to have the brother(s) "come to terms" - finding a way to sort of co-exist in the face of all that craziness... Like how the episode ended. Though, given the deer used the words "as inexplicable as the sunrise" maybe the sense of who Scratch and who the writer were was intended to be flipped. Why else "inexplicable" instead of "as sure as the sun will rise".
I swear Sam Lake is just something else. Such a short DLC yet it's packed with content, more questions but also more teasing at what the Remedy Universe is about. My mind is blown, once again.
I'm sticking with the theory I've had since Alan Wake 2 dropped, that Alan Wake and Thomas Zane are the same person and that Thomas Zane is Alan Wake's actual identity where he's gone through some kind of loss and/or life crisis and is trying to recover himself and doesn't fully know who he is anymore not in a literal sense, but figuratively in terms of his purpose and direction in life. Biggest piece of evidence is that a number of people call Alan "Tom" and seemed to know him from before and that when Alan meets Zane in the Dark Place, they have the same exact face. The distinct "person" of Alan Wake represents Zane's desire to "start over" and build a new life following the aforementioned loss and/or career failure, likely stemming from a failure in his music/writing career and possibly the death of his previous lover Barbara Jagger who appears in the first game.
In the Tim Breaker eposide of the DLC (the comic part), it's implying that Tom and Alan and Scratch are the same person but just from different demetions. Just like Tim's role in quantum break...
@@bruuuuuuuuhhhhexactly why I love it so much, it's never clear when reality ends and the fiction begins, did Alan make up the clicker on the spot to comfort his wife in the dark like we seen in the flash back and then later used that idea by writing as Thomas Zane so he could give the clicker real power or was Alan created by Zane because Zane couldn't fight it himself so he didn't to create a hero who could and I honestly hope we never find out which I only want more questions

I loved this video, it cleared up SO MUCH information for me! I think Mr Door is angry at Alan for a couple reasons: Alan is messing up the rules of the multiverse, Alan is hurting others without regard to consequence, and Alan created a version of Door that is human. I think Door was just the walls between universes that used to be firm and strong with clear rules. I think Alan was experimenting with his power with wild abandon and so decided the walls needed to let him through. Alan wrote himself a door through the walls to allow this. But because of how he thinks he could only do this by creating a living door. A person, with a story and destiny outside of any universe, in between everything and thus in every universe at once. Mr Door is the tool of Alan to break the universe so that he could have the power over many worlds. And having been made a person, Mr Door saw the crimes and selfish villainy of his creator and was angry.
I thought he was pissed because Alan dragged Saga (Door’s daughter) into the mess. There’s a reason why there’s a trope called Papa Wolf and Mr. Door displayed it fully in his confrontation with Alan. Brrr…I’m getting shivers thinking about what a furious Door would be like if he found out his granddaughter was also pulled into the mess.
The oldest house could also be the tree that takes root inside breaker if you eat the seed. Which Becomes the world tree. Another instance if you plant it ,it becomes the world tree and you build a giant skyscraper around the world tree which could be the oldest house. Oldest house sits outside of the multiverse.
I think that, as all chapters are shown to be written by Alan and hosted by Mr.Door, it means they are already working together. Thus being this a superior version of Alan, being a more experienced "master of many worlds". I think this Alan is writing the characters we see to be involved with him more than to escape. Maybe Rose's story is about him showing her in dreams what is coming, giving more meaning to her claims that Alan sent her messages of how to defend herself and kill the taken. Jesse's story can be in the time she is trapped in the darkness (as we know she disappeared and we see her in the tv), Alan using her memories of her looking for her brother and combining them to what she experienced in the FBC to guide her to him. And for Tim, he also led him to find the cabin. He is giving them tools to defend themselves against the dark. And slowly leading them into him for a reason yet to know. But I think all protagonists are linked to themselves and to Alan, by Alan
I played and finished quantum break for the first time today, and then played episode 3 after. What an awesome continuation of that story. Remedy is so cool.
I know i’m late to the party but in Rose’s story, the books in her storage are Will Hurt, Death Will Hurt, and Love Will Hurt, which follows the naming scheme of the Alex Casey books as well as references Max Payne-Will Hurt
Darling's book. Darling is important. Pretty sure he created Thomas Zane in his insanity. Day 665 of being alone in the Darkplace. A place the changes based on his thoughts.
SPOILERS Fwiw in Time Breaker Tim is imagining getting to the “master of many worlds” seemingly referring to Door however at the end of the final draft Alan also becomes a “master of many worlds” he claims in the final cutscene through his escape of the dark place and ascension to a higher state or self realization. So this occurring at the end of Time Breaker was pretty cool and may be a sign of things to come.
Holy fucking shit, this is amazing. It pretty much confirms that Warlin Door is one of the multiversal versions of Martin Hatch from Quantum Break, probably the most powerful one.
Something I just thought of: Ahti is janitor, he's named after the Finnish ocean god, he's theorized at points to be taking care of the Oldest House as it's like Yggdrasil is some way given the etchings in the Foundations (maybe?), and there's a poem Alan did mentioning oceans connecting and he is seen in every universe in one way or another. Is Mr. Door aware of him and are they working together? Or seperately? What do they think of each other?
That’s a really good question. I know from reading about the lore and watching videos on Alan Wake 2 and Control (thank you Gaming University) that Ahti is friends with the Anderson brothers who are the in-laws of Door so maybe Ahti knows Warlin Door from before the latter became an eldritch being. Who knows? There are a lot of mysteries with our favorite jovial janitor like how is it he looks the same age he was back in the 60s (no seriously I want to know if he’s a god, an eldritch being or he just has really good genetics).
Since Warlin Door is taking out different Seans doesn't that mean the Sean in the DLC will have a story mirroring Warlin Doors. If so doesn't that mean Warlin Door is creating his own enemy and Sean will be the reflection of good?
ok wild theory is door basically "cleaning up" behnd Alan, bbecause as alan writes he creates alterne universes , this could be what else pissed door off
One thing I love about community theorizing is enjoying theories that are right and ones that are wrong just the same because of the sheer effort. I do love one theory that Control’s narrative exists as a long form way of Alan trying to “create the hero” he needed for AW2. That Alan was initially hesitant to utilize characters and people from Bright Falls who couldn’t save him on their own, so he tried to brute force the problem by crafting a new story that would create a hero powerful enough to save him (i.e. Jesse). Control and its DLC are just him setting the stage and rules for the story so that as he slowly integrated Bright Falls via the AWE DLC - it gave him the connecting points he needed to bring them into his story. But what he didn’t plan for was for the Hiss to take hold so drastically and start subverting the story of Control and the characters within it - same as the dark presence did to his story. This inevitably led to the hiss poisoning his story via Emil Hartman and Control as we know just…ends. Hiss still exist, Oldest House still locked down. This was Alan realizing that Jesse could no longer become the hero he could rely on because her villain was just as dangerous as his. It’s unfounded but I do love people’s creative efforts in making something work.
Aaaaaaah one of the best videos EVER explaining not only the DLC but the whole lore of what Remady is doing .. good job there .. definitely, I will save for later .. surly for me, one of the best references to go back to it later
Fantastic video! Also remember, after the end of the Final Draft, Alan is now ALSO the Master of "All" Worlds (thus the occurrence at the end of the third episode), an allusion to his mastery of the Dark Place's power. My personal theory is that it might seem Alan is actually that Master who is trying to escape through these episodes, which might be echoes towards real things happening (Control and Quantum Break). Remember, everything also happens in Night Springs, an echo of Bright Falls ("Night Springs when Bright Falls"). Just a bit of rambling, can't wait to finally draw a full picture of this magnificent fictional world!
I remember Doors actor from CW's Supergirl. Gotta say they choose the right guy for the job. He can switch between hero & villain in the beat of a heart. Will be interesting to see if Door is an antagonist, a force to be avoided, or possibly an ally in any upcoming games.
For those who are wondering if there will be TV series at some point. At the moment AMC is holding the rights to make tv series to Alan Wake, but there hasn't been any news if AMC will make the series. They can hold the rights like 5-7 years or something and after that other streaming services etc can try to get them from Remedy. AMC has been holding the rights from Reemedy 2022. IF there won't be Ilkka Villi, David Harewood, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Franzen, Martti Suosalo, Courtney Hope, Matthew Porretta etc. people will be furious.

I'd argue that "Number One Fan" is actually just a fanfic written by Rose. We can go with Alan hijacking it and writing "one of her delusions became real" to possibly take a shortcut, but the actual contents just don't fit his style.
Is this really all taking place before the events of AW2 like you said? The way I personally took it is after Alan learns that it is a spiral and not a loop, he starts writing these stories to gather all of these people together to help him
Just played it, in the third chapter there’s a sheet of paper that says YOU ARE HERE with an arrow pointing about halfway through a sketch of a spiral. It’s after, whatever is happening in this story Alan has made his way partially out of the spiral
That was fast. Wait...his wolf pack? He turns into a wolf and his motorcycle does too. It's not a wolf pack... And Ahti isn't trapped. He's just willing to play the part written for him. But he could choose if he wished.
"In charge of the multiverse" is a reach. Just because he is trying to eliminate threats to it, doesnt automatically mean hes in charge Nor do we know that eliminating threats is his goal?
I think Ahti lives in all dimension, but Door won't attack him because he's a god level entity. Door seems to only dislike humans peering into his Doors.
I´m actually so happy that Sam Lake and Remedy still holds Quantum Break's story as part of Alan Wake's canonical events (as well as Control's). I hope they somehow recover the IP from Microsoft because wtf there are a lot more strings to pull from all the characters there (for example that Martin Hatch is just like an early version of Warlin Door).
I have just discovered that in the first scene when Tim talks to Sam, Sam is not blinking - not once! If you pay close attention you can see that Tim is actually blinking his eyes but Sam is not! What does that mean?
I think part of Alans Goal in writing these Episodes is „defining“ the Dark Presence. The only way to stop it was to essentially put a face to the name, give it physical form, and then killing it. Night Springs are the first attempts at this. He starts by writing what he knows, Mr Scratch. He refuses to accept what he really is, so he‘s written as his evil and arrogant Twin Brother. This is just his own delusion of course, and thats exactly how the story ends up becoming; so far from the truth that he ends up writing fan fiction about himself. Next he reimagines the Taken as some sort of cult indoctrination using coffee. Still absurd, but closer to reality. His multiverse connection to Dr Casper Darling adds some FBC jargon into the mix to keep the conspiracy angle accurate. He finds that the Dark Presence and the Board are quite similar and adds that to the story as well. The issue is that either he‘d unable to finish the story, leading to the actual cult leader being the cults literal creator IE himself, or his subconscious takes over to try and tell him what he needs to do, but he‘s not that far in his journey yet to understand. He tosses this one aside, but keeps the Cult stuff to reuse later. Finally, he tries embracing the Many Worlds Interpretation; that all fiction is just reality from another Universe. Here he tries to turn Warlin Door into the Antagonist/Dark Presence Manifest; that doesn‘t mean Mr Door is actually malevolent, Wakes Paranoia tends to make people trying to help him out to be monsters, which manifests in his writing. His attempt of explaining his situation „scientifically“ ends up leading him right back to where he started however, realizing that there is no higher power than himself and the may in fact be the monster of this story. Tim Breaker serves as the Hero in this story, likely inspiring Sagas Role in Return later. TL;DR Alan tries to write the dark presence as his jealous Twin, an evil Cult Leader and a multiversal supervillain in order to find a way to defeat it, but each attempt ends up either dead in the water or leads straight back to him in the role of said villain. Thus in the loops where he writes Initiation and Return, he realizes that only he can be that „vessel“ for the Dark Presence, the only twist that makes sense with what the Story lends him

I recently replayed Control, and then realised that this DLC was a thing. So i got to play it through and see Jesse which made me super happy.
Darling's book. Darling is important. Pretty sure he created Thomas Zane in his insanity. Day 665 of being alone in the Darkplace.
A place the changes based on his thoughts.
SPOILERS
Fwiw in Time Breaker Tim is imagining getting to the “master of many worlds” seemingly referring to Door however at the end of the final draft Alan also becomes a “master of many worlds” he claims in the final cutscene through his escape of the dark place and ascension to a higher state or self realization. So this occurring at the end of Time Breaker was pretty cool and may be a sign of things to come.
Its possible to play the dlc while playing the game. I had decided to replay the story and found each episode in Alan's side of the game.
Holy fucking shit, this is amazing. It pretty much confirms that Warlin Door is one of the multiversal versions of Martin Hatch from Quantum Break, probably the most powerful one.
Nice Harry! Love the committment to releasing these videos so quickly
Honestly, I don't want Harry to burn out. We can wait because quality over quantity
Always happy to see more of Control. Alan Wake(s) universe has such an awesome amount of lore and detail to it.
Thank you so much for the refresher on all the RCU games, watched them all to jog my memory before playing Lake House!
Since Warlin Door is taking out different Seans doesn't that mean the Sean in the DLC will have a story mirroring Warlin Doors. If so doesn't that mean Warlin Door is creating his own enemy and Sean will be the reflection of good?
Like Jet Li in the movie "The One"
ok wild theory is door basically "cleaning up" behnd Alan, bbecause as alan writes he creates alterne universes , this could be what else pissed door off
My motorcycle is also a wolf 😅 Also in Time Breaker that's definitely Beth Wilder not Jesse.
That version is Jessbeth. They aren't subtle.
I love how everything connects in the remedyverse. No detail is there for no reason and everything makes sense.
Personally after playing this DLC I want someone to adore me like Rose Adores Alan Wake 😂
These DLCs were NUTS.
Excellent work Gaming Harry!
Will be interesting to see if Door is an antagonist, a force to be avoided, or possibly an ally in any upcoming games.
i think a tv show or movie will finish this crazy beautiful story. it might be many years away but i think its worth the wait.
I mean, Shawn Ashmore was an Animorph after all. He's used to understanding weird sci-fi stuff quickly.
The ripple effect corporation is just Monarch
Happy 1 yr anniversary of Alan Wake 2!
Oh I just got to this part. Tim breaker talking to Alan about aliens lol
GamingHarry is a mind reader, I was JUST thinking about this game!! Awesome video as per usual
3:14 if I saw a bunch of guns stored in a diner I would immediately just book it. I would leave the building in panic.
Is this not normal in America?
@@redwiltshire1816 I’m not American I’m Canadian but even so I would be immediately concerned about the person mental state if they had a whole army in Diner.
@@AnvilPictures I mean same especially if the guns are kept in the kitchen
"You preparing for a break-in, or Armageddon?"
@@bandgeekforlife406 Yes.
I don't know if anyone told you yet, but in control, a game I played and beat, Alan Wake is in the same universe as control. In the vault in control Alan Wake's typewriter is considered an altered item
JESSIE! So glad to see her again. One of my favorite games & characters.
Im here because i can't play it on steam but still love the alan wake story.
Unfortunately im not downloading a launcher and making a new account just for one game.
Thanks for the video man!!
Great vid 👌 loved both the alan wake games cant wait to complete the two DLCs and eagerly await Control 2
The best part of the DLC is the song at the end of the chapters. It is a BANGER 🎵 🕺🏾
🎤In Nigh Springs
Caught in an endless time loop🎵
I'd argue that "Number One Fan" is actually just a fanfic written by Rose.
We can go with Alan hijacking it and writing "one of her delusions became real" to possibly take a shortcut, but the actual contents just don't fit his style.
I like how you might consider the opposite of a remedy to be a poison pill.
Is this really all taking place before the events of AW2 like you said? The way I personally took it is after Alan learns that it is a spiral and not a loop, he starts writing these stories to gather all of these people together to help him
Door mentions their previous collaboration on Night Springs during their confrontation.
Just played it, in the third chapter there’s a sheet of paper that says YOU ARE HERE with an arrow pointing about halfway through a sketch of a spiral. It’s after, whatever is happening in this story Alan has made his way partially out of the spiral
This is complete madness and I love it. Thank you for the video, and kudos to Epic Games for giving Remedy full carte blanche in creating AW2.
That was fast. Wait...his wolf pack? He turns into a wolf and his motorcycle does too. It's not a wolf pack...
And Ahti isn't trapped. He's just willing to play the part written for him. But he could choose if he wished.
It’s a theory, because in the cabin, there’s a book on being an alpha and leading a Wolfpack.
I absolutely love how Sam went "yeah I'm canon now"
I’m excited to see you break down this confusing dlc to me
i am waiting for this forever and finally, thank you Harry
It’s not a spiral, it’s many spirals.
"In charge of the multiverse" is a reach. Just because he is trying to eliminate threats to it, doesnt automatically mean hes in charge
Nor do we know that eliminating threats is his goal?
Is so funny to have the time breaker stuff in there seeing as remedy really wanna connect quantum break into the universe 😂
Loved it 😁 im your number one fan 😊
Also you have the Black and white triangles in different location in locked crates that you need to translate(North Star)
God, Mr. Door is just the coolest sidecharacter I've seen.
Just in time for my dreadmill video!
Isn’t the coffee likely an allegory for the Hiss from Control?
I love Number one fan😂
Thus in the loops where he writes Initiation and Return, he realizes that only he can be that „vessel“ for the Dark Presence, the only twist that makes sense with what the Story lends him
This game is kust intriguing. Thx for another great explain video.
SAM LAKE, YOU HAAAACK!
Yooo I been waiting on this since this dropped
Another Gaming Harry video already? What did I do to deserve all this luxury entertainment?!
I don't remember meeting Ahti in the third episode, I think i just threw the device into an ocean
Losing my mind at the Control reference!!!!!
There should be a dlc explaining why Saga is different from QB Saga. Maybe she’s an alternative version.
it goes without saying, if it doesn't leave fans with more questions, it ain't alan wake
fantastic. you just got a sub
Rose reminds me of Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw and that's a feeling I was happy to have
I hope we get a Shawn Ashmore/Tim Breaker game in the near future.
PHYSICALS for Alan wake 2 are now available at Best Buy!!!!! For pre order I mean. Please support this game the physical of your a console gamer
Yes! I finally plan to buy it. We really need to stop with these digital only games crap. Black myth wukong is going through something similar as it has no physical.
I will buy the collectors edition 👌
This is very reminiscent of "Gideon Falls", anyone read it?
Hey im Not Sure if you missed This but they patched another ending in the Game or more likely the real ending and how the ending scene of alan wake 2 plays out After Alan is Shot with light and Saga Calls Logan
The talk between shawn and the red headed woman is reminiscent to the framing narrative of quantim break, where jack joyce is talking in an interview to commander Ogawa of Monarch.
Definitely intentional! It all exists in the multiverse right? (They just don’t own QB anymore lol)
Third part of the Dlc Fried my brain so many hidden chooses during the Written part. You even create the device Alan uses to travel between zones in the darkness. Jesse is breakers wife/love interest in a different universe my god this dlc was Amazing but only thing confused me a bit was Roses part I get it’s not Wake leading and I guess she starts the retirement home at the moment but theirs still plot holes.
