But SON, I’m so juiced to see that you made us a video on this game. I literally said aloud “DUDE” when you dropped this! Thanks for the smiles and the genuinely good takes on all these games. I actually pre-ordered Quantum Break for the Xbox One despite not even having an Xbox One because I love Remedy’s work and wanted to support them. Managed to borrow an Xbox One from a friend and got every achievement and lore bit and everything in a single gaming session. What a ride! Gave the Xbox One back to my friend obviously but I still have the game and the steelbook for it in my collection!
Remedy is one of the most amazing studios when it comes to sheer creativity and artistic storytelling, not to mention they've brought amazing mechanics to gaming as well. Personally, my most favourite studio in the West.
There's also a prophecy twist that's easy to miss. Paul knows the little oopsie caused by Will's interference at the start causes a fracture, but the end of time comes years after his foreknowledge of events ends and he simply assumed that _this_ fracture is _the_ fracture that causes the end of time. Nothing says it couldn't be fixed only for another fracture to happen years later, leading to the end of time he saw. He never cottons on to this mistake, so this is why various Monarch-affiliated characters make comments about how the stutters are happening way faster than they expected and why Paul ultimately 'has' to activate the lifeboat protocol early; they'd all assumed the fracture would progress very slowly and take years to lead to the end of time, but that's not the way it works; a fracture leads to the end of time in just a couple of days. And so we come to 48:10, where it must be possible to change things because they just did... except no, they didn't. Jack and Will using the countermeasure to fix the fracture is simply another part of the closed loop. They were always meant to fix the fracture, they always do and always did fix the fracture... _this_ fracture. There's another one coming, and they haven't truly changed the future. I really liked this game and it's sad we'll probably never get a sequel, although admittedly some of that is it's simply interesting comparing it to other time travel stories. In some ways it feels like it's Legacy of Kain but heavily compressed; you'd half-expect the sequel to reveal that it's possible to make changes by bringing the same object or person into close proximity with it/themself in a different time period. It's almost deliberately the antithesis of Back to the Future, most time travel stories do the opposite of that and establish stable time loops as having always happened, whereas in BttF there is a "first" instance of someone going back in time and the loop didn't exist beforehand, but the extreme that Quantum Break takes it to is noteworthy, right down to how they don't even use the phrase "stable time loop" and instead say "it must be a closed loop."
I think it is more likely that the countermeasure did not fully work as intended and merely slowed down and post-poned the effects of the Fracture. Will flat-out tells Beth-from-the-future at some point that if the End of Time ever occured, it would mean that they failed and that the Fracture was never stopped. Also, the countermeasure had been opened at least once before (maybe even a second time when Dr Kim was turned into a shifter), and, as such, it is entirely possible that it did not function as intended even with Jack "jump-starting" it. Will also shows a lot of uncertainty over whether or not it actually worked in the final scene.
Many of Remedy's games could be described as a bit janky in places. But if you can just move past the jank they are experiences for sure. I have played games that controlled better, had better mechanics, better shooting and felt great at the time of playing.... but most of them I have forgotten. Alan Wake, Quantum Brake... those I still remember. Also, the number of Remedy games that could actually have the potential to make really good movies it pretty staggering :)
That’s why I always seemed to love Remedy’s games more than others they have gameplay styles and storytelling that fits my niche but I can understand why some people might not get into those types of games because it requires the player to pay attention to certain things that’s happening in the story otherwise you’ll be confused and the gameplay can be janky once in awhile but not so bad that it ruins my immersion in the world building and universe they set up
"I was in a dark place, and there was a dark man there. His name was Mr. Door, and he told me that there are many worlds - side-by-side, on top of each other, some inside of others. In one world, there was a writer who wrote a story about a cop. In another world, the cop was real. Door said he himself was in all of them at the same time, endlessly shifting between them." I was late to the Quantum Break party, having written it off at the time due to lack of interest and complaints of technical issues, but picked it up when I wanted to prepare for Control. I was glad I eventually picked it up though, I really liked the story and the characters and the time mechanics were fun. It's not a 10 out of 10 but it's definitely worth picking up.
the thing is Paul really isn't a villain, just a person that lost hope and thinks that nothing can be done and just wants to save the few people that he can in his lifeboat and thinks that Jack's actions will sabotage it you can push him to be more ruthless with the junction decisions and his desease makes him more crazy by the end, but it's not like he wants the time to stop or has some other evil plan
correct! if you think about, both Jack and Paul are protagonists in this narrative, they both want the same thing which is stopping the fracture and saving the world but each one has a different way to achieve that contradicts the other. And if you think about it even more, the only potential villain in this story is Martin Hatch, he's the only one who was sabotaging Paul and Monarch and he wanted to sabotage the lifeboat protocol, his agenda regarding why he wants the end of time to happen is unclear but there's a note near the end of the game written by him where he describes that he feels good and clear-headed during time stutters (the only zones where shifters can exist) and I didn't full realize that he was a shifter until this video noted that, which kind of explains his motives, but I'm personally still unsure of he's true intention he's such a mystery.
39:10 Just got the idea that the device the team used to avoid being affected by time is the same that FBCs team use to avoid being affected by the Hiss
It's pretty heavily hinted, especially with a note addressed to Jack in the final act of the game, that Martin Hatch is actually a Shifter, and probably the Shifter you see in that act shredding up Monarch soldiers. I can't remember the exact details but I think he's existed on earth for thousands of years, using some chronon event in a cave to travel from the end of time into our world. EDIT: Welp, that's what I get for commenting before the end of the video lol
Love that your videos don't end with a smash cut to your face and differently mixed voice work or any other jarring starts or stops - it makes them awesome background videos for when I'm vibing. So many others will suddenly try to catch my whole attention whether I can spare it or not and it takes away from their rewatchability. I'm happy to lie on the couch and listen to your work with my eyes closed after a long day, or complete work to them, or clean the house to them, long after I've watched them properly and got everything I should have out of them on a surface level. Basically keep making good thoughtful stuff that doubles as ASMR, thank you!
Pretty awesome game but im more in love with the Remedy universe that connects , Alan Wake and Control, I hope that Remedy can one day reacquire the right for Quantum Break and Max Payne so they can connect those games with Control and Alan Wake as well. Also great video and awesome job son.
Imagine that they do this and immediately link Max Payne and control by having a record that shows Max's bullet time isn't just us and that he's actually slowing his perception of time down
Something I just noticed is that the AWE in Alan Wake happened in 2010, while the Fracture happens in 2013. So unless the TV production company shot the show and waited almost 4 years to broadcast it that means at some point between Alan Wake had to have left the Dark Place. Either that or the Alan Wake we see in the trailer for the show "Return" isn't even Alan at all, because in Control they FBC has notes stating that Alan Wake hasn't been sighted in nearly a decade, and makes no reference to the show. Which honestly I'm gonna just chalk up to a story writing goof cause when you involve time travel in a shared universe shit just gets totally fucked.
Longform poetry, my friend… you’re a skilled creator and one of my favorite retrospective channels. You have a soothing cadence that makes digesting your thoughts easy.
Interesting bit of trivia for you. Shawn Ashmore and Brooke Nevin have actually worked together in the past. They played cousins Jake and Rachel in the tv show Animorphs, which was based on the YA book series of the same name.

I definitely want to check Quantum Break out sometime. I’ve heard from a lot of people that it can be frustrating with BS sections, but same goes for Control, and I freaking loved that game, so.
It’s definitely the weakest Remedy game but I still enjoyed it for what it was the plot is confusing but intriguing and the gameplay while limited and kinda janky sometimes is still impressive looking for a game that came on the Xbox one
I'm really glad that you explained that there wasn't a TV show for this because I have been avoiding the game until I could find the show so that I would have some way to at least try to understand the plot since I figured it would involve separate dimensions or time travel from the title.
Probably my favourite notification to get on youtube these days son, is another of your videos. Probably my favourite long-form creator, thanks for all you do mate.
When it comes to Remedy games, we need to remember is where they shine is narrative and their shared universe. Cam Rogers btw wrote a novelization of the game to flesh out the stuff that got cut out. [which im planning to narrate since no audiobook exists]
I’d just like to say that quantum break is one of the greatest games I’ve ever played, it may not be the best with certain mechanics, but IMO it is the only game to truly perfect the multimedia sort of FMV game that was so popular in the past (I’m a sucker for FMV’s so maybe I’m a bit biased) So sad that we lost Lance Reddick so soon RIP. He was one of the greatest antagonists in media history to me, anyways if you’re still reading this I’m not sure why, but have a great day.
Hey Son, I love your videos. I lay down & go to sleep to them almost every night. I was wondering if you were planning on doing a series on Resident Evil at all in the future. I loved your Silent Hill series and RE is my favorite franchise. Thanks, much love.
Beth wasn't bullied in childhood due to her being Time-Weird. Her favourite band is freakin' TOTO. If I thought about it enough, I could build a solid in-game case that we all have to travel back in time to PREVENT TOTO from happening. Thanks, Son. That helped.
As always, a well crafted video! I did enjoy the game at the time. The TV show was ok but it was a bit frustrating to wait 30min to be able to continue playing. A good Remedy game in my book, with tons of potential for more stories... One can hope...
I played Quantum Break on launch, if was a really fun ride that I loved from begining to end, and I have a really special place in my heart for this game. I wish MS actually partnered with remedy to not only continue this story but also to bring QB elements to the AW franchise. Mr Door and Tim breaker are great references but I wish we could see Hatch and Jack in it.
I loved this game, the thing I liked the most was the narrative, TBH I don't really care a lot about most games unless the story is interesting and this one hook me instantly. The thing I loved the most about the game was how the mixed the "mini series" between nodes, the cast was super good and very well translated into the in-game characters.
Still the only remedy game I haven’t finished. It’s currently unplayable on game pass due to an absolutely game breaking lighting glitch that hasn’t been patched. Love the channel ❤
Crazy how Quantum Bream spawn after one of the probably many failed attempts for an Allan Wake 2. Great Remedy game AND the Alan Wake 2 project was a Bop! Love these guys. Remedy and Cdpr are 2 of my favs
I finally finished watching this. Just a few comments. I think the junctions are more interesting than they seem. Perhaps a sub par execution but once it clicks for you, it clicks. Paul is an antagonist, but not a bad person. His larger goal is the same as Jack's, prevent the end of, well, everything even time itself. What each of yhe characters think they know, their assumptions about the things they have seen, that is what changes thus changing how they go about trying to address the end of it all. So when playing him, the choice should be less about doing the choice as paul or for convenience, but actually more about what you think could help save the world somehow. Because that is what william would do, jack would do, and monarch would do, and paul would do. Just pharsed by what one knows. But it is also a clear indication that changing bug thujgs might be hard, lot of work needs to be done... but not impossible. The first one where you chose tonkill someone or not is that clue. That choice is very much a drastic change to one person's life, literywether it continues and so does her ability to contribute to any future events after that point - small in comparison to whooe world and hjiverse, but big to her own self world and still major forhe microcosmos of friends and family and the people she interact ls daily, or would have done so if she lives. To me, this symbolizes that Paul's "great men" approach to history is just false, that is him or Beth or anyone else trying the "I alone will change it all in one single trip to the past" approach sees time as immutable. A single person on a handful of trips, no matter gow "great" the person, will still only have the impact of one person doing a few trips in a world of billions of lives shaping history and each other all at once all the time. That is not gonna cut. You a collective approach, or at least a whole more lotta jumps to the padt... or both.
This is a superb game with an amazing story! Time travel with no paradoxes. Just finished the game, and I'm already reading the book Quantum Break: Zero State 🤩
Interesting how they brought back Actress Courtney Hope the one who plays Beth in the game and brought her back in the next game Control as the main character Jessie Faden even though Remedy likes to keep every game connected or almost in the same unverse.
Command and Conquer did stuff like this way back in the day. Excellent mesh of game and show. Not as memeable as Command and Conquer live action characters but still legendary
I think the combat criticism is a bit of a skill issue tbh, I played on hard and never felt the combat was too bad. Thought it was pretty satisfying overall.
I just played Quantum Break and can't fathom why people think the logic behind this game works. The future I created himself by going back into the past, and it is so funny when people say how good the Remedy did by sticking to the logic of "past can't be changed". In the game what was the original past? If there isn't one it means he wouldn't be in the past if he wasn't in the past and he always being in the past is just illogical. If there is one then he somehow changed the past which is not only illogical but also contradicts the whole idea that the past can't be changed.
It's one of those games I've seen people play from start to finish but I couldn't tell people anything about it. It just...exists. It doesn't even fit well into Remedy's own narrative universe, given the worldbuilding Control set up connecting it to Alan Wake.
I will watch the video later. I liked this game. I checked my achievements and it seems I have all but one which is fish the game on hard. If you like time manipulation, give it a chance. Also this game did it right trying to avoid pitfalls connected to manipulating time.
I really liked the game despite it's flaws. It's more than the sum of its parts. The gameplay is a basic third person shooter with cool powers, the plot is nothing special and Sometimes makes no sense (like all time travel plots) and the real life show is on a CW level but as a whole all these parts make a special game that deserves to be remembered.
Kind of sucks that they made you have to read the notes to understand the full story as most people would not read those because generally in other games the notes is just bonus information.

I wish MS actually partnered with remedy to not only continue this story but also to bring QB elements to the AW franchise.
Mr Door and Tim breaker are great references but I wish we could see Hatch and Jack in it.
Sunday, perfect time to relax and enjoy another masterful crafted video of my favourite son 🥰
Lance Riddick was rad in Toys R Me.
I loved this game, the thing I liked the most was the narrative, TBH I don't really care a lot about most games unless the story is interesting and this one hook me instantly. The thing I loved the most about the game was how the mixed the "mini series" between nodes, the cast was super good and very well translated into the in-game characters.
My one complaint about this game was probably the individual cooldowns as opposed to the energy pool that was shown in the e3 demo.
Still the only remedy game I haven’t finished. It’s currently unplayable on game pass due to an absolutely game breaking lighting glitch that hasn’t been patched. Love the channel ❤
Can't wait for Control
You a collective approach, or at least a whole more lotta jumps to the padt... or both.
I like it a lot, perfect sunday afternoon schlock.
mmmmmmm, yummy schlock
I just finished the game for the first time yesterday. Nice timing son.
Always the best timing
This is a superb game with an amazing story! Time travel with no paradoxes. Just finished the game, and I'm already reading the book Quantum Break: Zero State 🤩
I enjoyed this video
Interesting how they brought back Actress Courtney Hope the one who plays Beth in the game and brought her back in the next game Control as the main character Jessie Faden even though Remedy likes to keep every game connected or almost in the same unverse.
Command and Conquer did stuff like this way back in the day.
Excellent mesh of game and show. Not as memeable as Command and Conquer live action characters but still legendary
THIS video is how I find out that Lance Reddick has passed? Damn 😢 "RIP Big Dog" tipped me off to something I was not ready for
I finished this game last week and absolutely loved it, can’t believe some people said it wasn’t worth it. Remedy never misses for me.
I think the combat criticism is a bit of a skill issue tbh, I played on hard and never felt the combat was too bad. Thought it was pretty satisfying overall.
Hey Son, great video proud of you.
I remember a game called defiance that had a TV show that took place alongside it.
I forgot about this game! I liked it but it definitely was not perfect but the story was really cool.❤thanks for covering this!
Now remedy needs to combine elements from Quantum Break and Control
Excited to learn about this game I've never heard of. Thanks for not being afraid to focus on games that aren't super mainstream.
Whenever jackspeticeye made a video on this game I thought it was amazing definitely gotta replay it sometime
It's definitely worth it
It’s so weird how Microsoft wasn’t interested in the Alan wake 2 project but they were very interested in the live action cutscene aspect of it
Love you vids! Keep it up 👍 not sure if it's your bag, but as a recommendation I suggest the Darksiders series for retrospective review
liam doesn't die in the control route, his suit is just heavily damage from the fight and stops working.
and the path i chose for my first playthrough was pr, business, hatch, and control.
Dang it son! I want to watch this video but it's a Remedy game that I have been delaying on playing for years now! Gaaaah this isn't fair!
Thank you! This game is fascinating.
Some reason i think they wrote charlie for wil wheaton to do but couldnt get him so used Marshall
Been meaning to buy this for a while now, finally went to last week and for some reason, its no longer for sale
35:55 Wait! It's the Oldest House? The life boat protocol is the oldest house from Control?
I'm proud of you, son.
But you are still grounded.
Holy... As I'm finishing up a 11 month old retrospective of Quantum Break, you upload a video as well. How's that for coincidence? Damn, son
Must be time travel
Quantum break is most definitely a game that people should give a try and needs a sequel
Sone rises over the skies in shared remedy universe once again!
Happy Sonday
Not feeling this game, but man they are ambitious. Respect!
And RIP LAnce Reddick.
40:51 I think they chose 9/11 because Sam Lake really likes New York and 9/11 was the biggest tragedy in the history of that city.
Waiting on Alan wake 2 IVE WAITED SO LONG THEY BETTER NOT FAIL US
I will watch the video later.
I liked this game.
I checked my achievements and it seems I have all but one which is fish the game on hard.
If you like time manipulation, give it a chance. Also this game did it right trying to avoid pitfalls connected to manipulating time.
Great game, under rated. Thank you for doing this video.
Great overview
Thanks for another great video, son! (P.S. Tell your mother to return my calls please)
Son, as a new father (your step sister) thank you for dropping a new video while I've got my hands full!
Hope you enjoy it!
NISAN OUT OF TEN!!!
I want to play this game on PS4 SO badly !
Control is next I take it, son?
You are correct
Thank you son
Thanks for watching Dad
This was a very fun game. Just beat it yesterday. Glad it was on gamepass.
Great video son, I'm proud of you and the quality of your work is exemplary.
My only problem with this game, we all get disappointed by the ending and then we find out the main story is hidden behind collectible notes.
Remedy is now laughing at Microsoft with the recent release of the masterpiece sequel to Alan Wake.
Kind of sucks that they made you have to read the notes to understand the full story as most people would not read those because generally in other games the notes is just bonus information.
Man I want this to come to PC.
Huh? It isn't?
It's already released on PC. U living under a rock 🤨?
Was super confused as to why everyone was calling this guy son until I saw the name lmao
Thanks for the new context YFS! Did you get a chance to play the new RE4 remake son? Did you ever consider a RE retrospective at some point?
I played it, but I probably wont do RE for a while because its so long.
After I finished watching the TV show, all I thought was I didn't need to watch them at all.
great video, would love to see a nier/drakengard series :)
That one is higher up on the list
This game hits way different after playing Alan Wake 2.
53:35 Mr Door.
Lance Reddick: Fringe
