AFAIK no tyrannosaur has been found with spinal osteoderms. There _are_ however other dinosaurs with similar osteoderms. Off the top of my head Diplodocus comes to mind. Ur reviews are the best of all dino figure reviewers...👍 by the way Charcharodontosaurus is the same size to this Allosaurus around 25 cm...PNSO taken the earlier specimen found by stromer of 10 m for sculpt....
Thank you I couldn't remember what the size of the PNSO Carcharodonto was. I usually measure again myself anyway, since I don't trust the given measurements. I think scale on the Carcharodonto is likely to be controversial given how many estimates there are. However exaggerations of up to 14m seem completely unjustified now.
@@DinosDragons the Carcharodontosaurus is 29 cm and 33 cm around the curves according to all the released promotion material. That would make it well in the 1:35 scale range.
Actually I would say yes. If you look at many of CollectA's and Safari Ltd's offerings, their sculpt is getting better and better. Then if you look at EoFauna, especially their latest Atlasaurus and Diplodocus, you can see they are coming up with high points as well. The only thing letting these down compared to PNSO is that their paint apps generally are awful. Then again the prices are much cheaper, so that price difference could go to custom painting for a model you really want to be perfect.
The model is lovely but the blue eyes show it might not be as scientifically accurate as it is advertised. If you think about it, there aren't many blue-eyed animals and the ones that have blue eyes are bred by humans. It most probably would've come with some strange (and equally beautiful) skin colour that this model doesn't have. Child's toy, but a really detailed one at that and as a child I would have loved to own such a beautifully detailed statuette. (On a side note scientists also have to get a grip on how these animals looked like, because I find it highly unlikely that any dino would have pertruding teeth. Or is this one grinning?)
Ideas in palaeontology shift and change over time. So it is with cheeks, nostril position, keratinization, lips, and size and volume. As long as a model reflects consideration of the science of its time, I am happy to own it knowing that in time something might change things round. For example. PNSO was convinced that the science supported liplessness for many years. With the increasing evidence suggesting otherwise, they've started to embrace that idea now. The posture and locomotion of Iguanodon is another easy example. Regarding blue eyes, they are not common but quite a few animals do have them in nature. Just because they are rare in extant doesn't necessarily make them less likely in extinct animals. Referring to just reptiles, the anglehead lizard and Mississippi green water snake have blue eyes I believe.
Such a nice looking model, however the eye ruins it for me. I don't mind a blue eye, but the way this is applied makes me think of a chinese knock off's application.
I wish people would quit with the T rex or species name. Your dont say A fragilis or S stenops, plus there were several species of Tyrannosaurus just like Allosaurus.
"Tyrannosaurus Rex" has been used forever, for more than a century, and even by the general public, that it's pretty much a part of the lexicon already. I believe "T Rex" was greatly popularized by the first Jurassic Park movie and is also used by the public. So it's unlikely either will ever be dropped. As for the other species, it is not generally accepted by the scientific community. While it makes perfect sense to me that there would be more than one, I don't think the paper adequately proves that. If you read the original paper, especially the section on autapomorphies for _regina_ and _imperator_ , you will see how flimsy and inadequate the characters nominated are.
Watched this after discovering weather questionable book about allosaurus. 😜 but anyway... awesome figure! I really need to get me a PNSO Dino or a few...
It really is a wonderful figure. Guesses about species is done in good fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously. It would be unfortunate is that prevented anyone from getting this incredible representation of Allosaurus!
Thank you! You shouldn't have to wait long since PNSO is now doing worldwide release. It is truly a marvel. I love the Nanmu and W-Dragon, but when you have this one in hand, you really can see it's on a different level of accuracy.
Amazing review, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna call it Allosaurus sp. to be safe LOL. I was about to proceed to getting this from my supplier but I became a bit concerned about the non-enlarged thumb claw, it seems too important a feature to be missed.. maybe PNSO has a good basis for this (?) I'm gonna scout around in forums and hopefully get some answers.
Thank you! If you find answers, please post them here, I would love to know. It's been a while since I caught up on Allosaurus so there might well be a new proposal that I'm unaware of. Not like PNSO to overlook such details. As for which species it is, PNSO seems to have called it a fragilis. Still the fun part is there's some room for speculation, but I hope that we don't take it too seriously! It's a beautiful model that should make most people very happy! I know I am! 😁
I most definitely would! Hopefully (fingers crossed) the Mesozoic Life project will be extended because it's really not looking like it will make the funding goal right now. That one looks really good!
I’ve just started to build up a collection of dinosaur models from Nanmu and PNSO. I love your reviews as they include technical information about the real thing as well as the model.
Thank you very much! I didn't want to do just model reviews; I wanted to share some of what I've learnt about these incredible animals and help people either make a decision, or appreciate the models they already have. Hopefully stimulate some interest in the background as well. I'm glad you're one who likes it! 😁😁
Hmm evolution is not a straight line , it branches out so perhaps its not either of these species but a transitional form before they split into different species.
I definitely agree. However it's not likely a major company would do a model on those experimental routes, unless it were based on a well-known argument in the field. They know that adult collectors include a large number of crazed nerds lol, so they wouldn't take the risk of creating something that looks completely different from anything currently recognized. Or at least not without healthy controversy, such as their Nanotyrannus. Even then they hedged their bets by making it a possible juvenile T Rex so as not to alienate purists.
I actually don’t like the blue eyes on this one. It could be the camera and lighting, but the eyes look extremely “toyish” and not realistic. It throws me off a bit
Different eye colours appeal to different people in different dinosaurs I suppose! I am a fan of blue generally, either in pigment or in eyes (for e.g. PNSO Pachyrhinosaurus) 😀
@@DinosDragons I do like blue eyes on dinosaur models! I actually repainted my feathered safari rex with blue eyes, I guess it’s more the application for this particular model. Maybe if there was some slight shading on the eyeball it would make it seem a little more realistic.
Allosaurus, historical "underdog" to the Tyrannosaurus. I did a review on the Papo Allosaurus last month. I should have waited for the PNSO version, but I think I'll do a comparison when I get hold of it. And yes, all these other companies have a habit of giving their models too big feet and shrink wrapping!
I guess that in general, bigger = more awesome! So Allosaurus gets T Rex's leftovers in terms of admiration and love. We can seldom predict what comes next, and PNSO announced its Allosaurus way after the W Dragon and Nanmu came out. And even if we were able to predict that PNSO would offer their version, we'd never know when, or if standards of sculpting could be maintained. So I tend to make my choices in the here and now. Hopefully you'll love all of yours each in their own way when you have all three in a row 😊
I wasn't going to get him but after your review and seeing it up close I already have it on the way! And going to have it repainted with the walking with dinosaurs Big Al colour scheme
Well that makes him jimmadseni for you! I wish I could paint. There are many models I would have gotten with great sculpt but not so great colour schemes. I would definitely redo the EoFauna Triceratops sp!
Wow you've got sharp eyes!! The thing is, my camera picks up things I sometimes don't even notice until I watch the video 🤣 So unfortunately there is sometime dust or other fluff between fingers, toes, and so on. But a real live ant, that really IS cute! 😁
Hi! I just received my Allosaurus and can’t figure out how to get the support arm to work. It’s shaped differently than Wilson’s and the figure’s foot seems to get in the way. Any tips?
Are you using a photo of the physical model when you're overlaying the skulls? I don't think the angle matches which can throw off the location of the landmarks... but what do I know. Are you familiar with #Facts: Dinosaurs?
Yes, Morgan used a photo of a skull mold sold by Fossilogic, molded from UUVP 6000. I believe it's recently been recatalogued as DINO 2560 at the Dinosaur National Monument. I'm afraid I've never heard of #Facts: Dinosaurs.
It is indeed! PNSO's really good with their paint apps in general, but this is one of those special ones that are elevated even above what I'd expect. Definitely a must buy for any Allosaurus lover!
I heard this figure is prone to falling over due to warping over time. How long until that happens? I bought mine last week so I'm curious when to expect that. The stand that comes with it doesn't offer any support because it doesn't fit under the allosaurus.
Unfortunately not long at all. When I was prepping this review, it started off okay but by the half of the video it was already keeling over. How long will depend on your surface level and temperature, but it will happen eventually. I replied another viewer's similar question with this. Hope it helps a little. ua-cam.com/video/fXZbhpnW4Qo/v-deo.html
@@soundofmetal Unfortunately not. All of them except the quadrupeds have the warping issue. It can't be helped given the relatively soft material, and the fact that on two legs it's so precarious that just a bit off balance and you won't be able to stand it. That's why I always strongly recommend people use the provided stands by PNSO in all my videos.
Just got into dino collecting again since I was a kid and I have to say that the extra scientific research layer you offer gives an entire new dimension to viewing dinosaur figures. I'm loving it, keep up the good work! Gives me a whole new love for and interest in dinosaurs. I would love it if you did some Beasts of the Mesozoic figures :)
And I'm curious if you have a top something sauropods list. I loved your therapod overview video and it's hard to find an overview online because of the complex naming of some species. Would be nice to have an overview of the best figures on the market. I'd love one or two good sauropods in my collection, but don't have that much shelf space 😅Would love your opinion on the Eufauna Diplodocus as well 🙂 still on the fence on that one.
Wow top sauropods list! Well I have so many that it's hard to tell which is my top 3 or even 5! I would say, what would you want to see in a "good" sauropod to have in your collection? Some considerations are, what scale, accuracy, detail, paint application? Does material matter, as in a resin kit, or are you looking for a mass produced model? And are you looking for any two that meet your criteria, or perhaps you are looking for one from a different clade that fit the bill? 😊
I'm absolutely delighted to hear it! I have always loved the science and one reason I share it in my videos is I hope it will make people appreciate a model more, or maybe stimulate interest in finding out more about dinosaurs at a deeper level. I believe models are wonderful inspirations to find out more. For example, I had zero interest in Scansoriopterygidae until I saw a sculpture of Epidexipteryx by Jay Carriere. I only have a couple of BOTM figures, but I didn't review them as by the time I got them, everyone else already had them, and plenty of reviews were already up. I want to do a review only if I can value add to the mass of videos on UA-cam. I might still do a review one day, but not soon 😁
@@DinosDragons I think the way you approach the reviews with the extra scientific information about the species and the figure's accuracy would add tremendous value in my opinion. I don't feel any reviewer that I've seen has delved seriously into that, and I've seen a whole lot of BotM reviews, trust me 😅 Also because BotM has some rarer species (that I had never heard of) makes it interesting to dive a little deeper into things. Perhaps if individual reviews feels like there would be too many, you could also group some raptors or some ceratopsians if they are related and dive deeper into a subspecies (don't know it that's the case and if the figures are sufficiently accurate to show the real differences) Anyhow, your reviews are simply in a different category. Not that I don't enjoy the other reviews, but nobody out there offers this deep dive into the species like you do.
@@DinosDragons For me paint and detail are the most important, as I'd like the model to be as plausible and believable as a real animal. As for scale, it would be nice if it has some size, but it doesn't have to be absolutely massive for me (especially considering price 😅 I think budget would be €100 max for an exceptional beauty, but rather around the €60 range, so probably no resin kits 😔). I'd rather have a sauropod that's a bit smaller with great paint and detail than a massive one that looks clunky with coarse detail and unbelievable paint application (cough* cough* blue diplodocus cough* cough*) Same with accuracy. I would like it to be as accurate as possible, but as long as it presents a plausible and believable animal, I'd be okay with it. I tend to like the 'long and level' type sauropods like Diplodocus, or some that are just a little different like Amargasaurus (afraid that the PNSO version is already a bit outdated on the detail side of things compared to their later work. Same with paint). But for me, it is hard to even get an overview of the newly discovered sauropods and whether they have figures. When I grew up, it was basically Apatosaurus, Diplodocus and Brachiosaurus that I knew, so I know there's this whole new world to explore and I don't really know where to start. That's why I'd absolutely love a sauropod overview video, just like your therapod video where you compare a whole bunch of them. Also to find out what great new species (and figures) are out there 🙂 Unfortunately, most online toy stores don't have a 'filter sauropods' function, haha. But even searching forums I haven't been able to find anyone discussing or comparing sauropod figures.
Thanks for doing this review!! EXACTLY what I needed to make my decision. Based on the inaccuracies, particularly the missing enlarged thumb claw, and the fact that I have the Nanmu and both versions of the W Dragon, I think I’ll pass for now. It is a beautiful offering though, so perhaps I’ll still get it down the line.
I think that both the Nanmu and W Dragon will still make many people happy. I had not idea you were so serious about Allosaurus you got _both_ versions of the W Dragon! 😳 Nonetheless the PNSO is really very very good. Again I have concerns about later runs having a poorer paint jobs, so do consider it getting one sooner rather than later.
Pnso is a releasing a new stegosaurus with a baby that Would be perfect for display with the allosaurus
They should _absolutely_ be posed next to each other!!!
The Torbosaurus would go well with it as well
It’s incredible how far ahead in terms of sculpt quality and accuracy PNSO is. Is there really any reason to consider other manufacturers?
Unless you can paint yourself, many a time an almost perfect model is spoilt by that one little thing. I've had that happen to me many times!
It’s so amazing I cannot wait to get mine in, Fantastic Review DD I was anticipating your thoughts since this figure was revealed!
Thank you! You shouldn't have to wait long since PNSO is now doing worldwide release. It is truly a marvel. I love the Nanmu and W-Dragon, but when you have this one in hand, you really can see it's on a different level of accuracy.
Siantifacly accurate
There may be some discrepancies here and there, now that I've had two years to continue reading 😁 But overall, still a very, very good model! 😊
Amazing review, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna call it Allosaurus sp. to be safe LOL.
I was about to proceed to getting this from my supplier but I became a bit concerned about the non-enlarged thumb claw, it seems too important a feature to be missed.. maybe PNSO has a good basis for this (?)
I'm gonna scout around in forums and hopefully get some answers.
Yes Id like to see a 1:35 Spinosaurus
I most definitely would! Hopefully (fingers crossed) the Mesozoic Life project will be extended because it's really not looking like it will make the funding goal right now. That one looks really good!
@@DinosDragons Thanks for that I havnt heard of the MLP before. Their stuff looks really good
I’ve just started to build up a collection of dinosaur models from Nanmu and PNSO.
One of the best allosaurus figures
Indeed it is! I think anyone will be very happy with this, unless they are really particular!
This is such a gorgeous model...I called mine the "Night King" because those blue eyes reminded me of a character in a TV series.... Awesome review!!!
Always brings you and your dinosaurs closer if you have names for them 😁
Allosaurus, historical "underdog" to the Tyrannosaurus. I did a review on the Papo Allosaurus last month. I should have waited for the PNSO version, but I think I'll do a comparison when I get hold of it. And yes, all these other companies have a habit of giving their models too big feet and shrink wrapping!
Funny because way back then Allosaurus was king of dinosaur movies
I guess that in general, bigger = more awesome! So Allosaurus gets T Rex's leftovers in terms of admiration and love. We can seldom predict what comes next, and PNSO announced its Allosaurus way after the W Dragon and Nanmu came out. And even if we were able to predict that PNSO would offer their version, we'd never know when, or if standards of sculpting could be maintained. So I tend to make my choices in the here and now. Hopefully you'll love all of yours each in their own way when you have all three in a row 😊
I'm still at the beggining of the video, but PNSO confirmed it's based on the A. fragiilis
Haha yes I've heard, but it's fun to still speculate since there is some doubt ☺
It looks more like A jimmadseni
Zhao chuang in the official pnso video said it's based on big al and big al is an allosaurus jimmadseni
@@DinosDragons for that trike I'm planing to have him repainted with the prehistoric park triceratops colours but only after the allo
I’m repainting my Rebor saurophagax like big Al, bigger Al if you will lol
I need it
Haha we all do!
great video!!! i will have to pick it up one of these days!!! it was so funny seeing a cute little ant on the Parasaurolophus head crest at 10:01!
Any tips?
Hi Michael I hope this helps.
ua-cam.com/video/fXZbhpnW4Qo/v-deo.html
I think they should reissue the Wilson with new skin like that of the Allosaurus! This would be an ultimate T. rex!
I have no doubt whatsoever that they will eventually do just that! It's too obvious a move not to make 😁
Me living vicariously through your videos because we cannot get these in India TAT
Wow sorry to hear that! I would have thought you might be able to get them from Amazon India. Perhaps the US site? Or EverythingDinosaur.com?
Are you using a photo of the physical model when you're overlaying the skulls? I don't think the angle matches which can throw off the location of the landmarks... but what do I know.
Are you familiar with #Facts: Dinosaurs?
Yes, Morgan used a photo of a skull mold sold by Fossilogic, molded from UUVP 6000. I believe it's recently been recatalogued as DINO 2560 at the Dinosaur National Monument.
I'm afraid I've never heard of #Facts: Dinosaurs.
@@DinosDragons check them out on Instagram @facts_dinosaurs. I believe they'll be doing physical models in the future as well
Just did a review on that beauty at my regular bar! I must say that the coloration of this Allosaurus is quite ingenious!
It is indeed! PNSO's really good with their paint apps in general, but this is one of those special ones that are elevated even above what I'd expect. Definitely a must buy for any Allosaurus lover!
@@DinosDragons Can't wait to review the Carcharodontosaurus!
I wonder if there will be a 1/35 ceratosaurus?
I can only hope so! Have you seen their large size Ceratosaurus? I wouldn't mind just having that shrunk down to 1:35!
@@DinosDragons Is that the only figure in the pnso line that does it.
@@soundofmetal Unfortunately not. All of them except the quadrupeds have the warping issue. It can't be helped given the relatively soft material, and the fact that on two legs it's so precarious that just a bit off balance and you won't be able to stand it. That's why I always strongly recommend people use the provided stands by PNSO in all my videos.
had a mini poster or not ???🙄
Yes it does. They all do now.

Thanks for responding, greetings from Chile.😎👌
I don't feel any reviewer that I've seen has delved seriously into that, and I've seen a whole lot of BotM reviews, trust me 😅
Also because BotM has some rarer species (that I had never heard of) makes it interesting to dive a little deeper into things. Perhaps if individual reviews feels like there would be too many, you could also group some raptors or some ceratopsians if they are related and dive deeper into a subspecies (don't know it that's the case and if the figures are sufficiently accurate to show the real differences)
Anyhow, your reviews are simply in a different category. Not that I don't enjoy the other reviews, but nobody out there offers this deep dive into the species like you do.
@@DinosDragons
For me paint and detail are the most important, as I'd like the model to be as plausible and believable as a real animal. As for scale, it would be nice if it has some size, but it doesn't have to be absolutely massive for me (especially considering price 😅 I think budget would be €100 max for an exceptional beauty, but rather around the €60 range, so probably no resin kits 😔). I'd rather have a sauropod that's a bit smaller with great paint and detail than a massive one that looks clunky with coarse detail and unbelievable paint application (cough* cough* blue diplodocus cough* cough*)
Same with accuracy.
Good review
Thank you! Allosaurus is one of the few theropods I am really interested in! 😁
Excellent review, always great
Thank you Joshua I try my best! PNSO certainly makes it a bit easier 😁
Nice looking Allosaurus!
In many ways, it's a no-brainer to get this if you don't already have a good Allosaurus! 😀
Well done China. Обзор супер.
Thank you very much! And yes, China has many many great artists. Glad that some decided to go into dinosaurs! 😂
Nonetheless the PNSO is really very very good. Again I have concerns about later runs having a poorer paint jobs, so do consider it getting one sooner rather than later. I am sure more reviewers will come out with their own thoughts and hopefully can help you decide on this! 😄
Ugh! Yes, you’re of course right. I just ordered it! :). Allosaurus really is one of my top favorite dinosaurs. Thanks again for what you do!
I'm new here. What is pnso
