  • At last! After lacking a good Torosaurus for a long time, and losing hope with each offering of a new Triceratops, PNSO has delivered with a Torosaurus to have and to hold!
    And what a Torosaurus. In terms of anatomical detail, sculpting, a mean frill pattern, and texturing that is improved even from the recent Triceratops Doyle, this is PNSO at its best, offering continual improvement even when most unexpected!
    This Torosaurus captures all the detail that makes Torosaurus, Torosaurus. Unambiguously so, from the frill to the lack of a midline epiparietal, which means you can proudly display it as a well-defined, specimen of an entirely distinct genus from Triceratops.
    We now have a new chasmosaurine to add to the Triceratops, and this bodes very well for the selection from PNSO indeed. Just a Chasmosaurus more, and I will consider myself satisfied for now.
    The Triceratops is Torosaurus is an old controversy that still rears its ugly head from time to time, and with this offering, PNSO has taken a stand, even including a baby Torosaurus in what must seem like a slap to that theory. Still, the whole story is fascinating, and you should check out the articles below for some racy reading.

    Your reviews are without a doubt the most informative, knowledgeable and interesting ones out there. I always learn so much new stuff and I have to watch out that your enthusiasm and eagerness in your speech don’t lead me right into buying one for myself haha. I’ve decided to reduce my collecting to vintage toys and sauropods a while back (bc of the costs and shelf space) but the way you talk about all their latest ceratopsian releases really give me a hard time sticking to sauropods only. And they look great as well of course. Never stop what you‘re doing!

      @TooOldForDinosaurs Thank you very much for your kind words indeed! One of my goals with my reviews is to help people decide if they want something, or if they already have it, to point out aspects to appreciate so that they can enjoy their figures even more! Insofar as playing some small part in threatening your wallet with ruin, I have to apologize 🤣 Still, there are some that I hope you will doubtless be able to enjoy vicariously via my videos without adding to the damage!
      Incidentally, sauropods are my favourite dinosaur group, and I can see how any minimalist will want to have at least those! Hopefully PNSO will give us some decently sized sauropods, but we have at least a breather in this direction as they will most likely offer Sinraptor and Acrocanthosaurus next!

    This piece looks absolutely excellent. I love the inclusion of a baby, it really sells the idea that Torosaurus is not Triceratops. This might be wishful thinking, but I would personally like a figure of T. prorsus in the future.

      @DinosDragons  2 роки тому

      I would definitely second that, but I think that being as expensive as they are, only the very hardcore enthusiast would prefer a prorsus above new dinosaurs, so I suspect PNSO may get to it, but only after a lot of more differentiated ceratopsians are released. I'd love a few more chasmosaurines!

      My condolences on the impending loss from your wallet 😂 However I can truly say that this is one model that has a real presence, and I don't think I highlighted enough just how massive this thing really looks compared to the other offerings so far. Even now on my desk it still seems to take up a much bigger space than previous occupants! I daresay that compared to some of my favourite large ceratopsians of recent memory, the EoFauna, Safari Ltd, and PNSO Triceratopses, this one has to be my favourite!

      I'd certainly agree! It would make a very nice representation of the diverse range of dinosaurs, but I am guessing that PNSO would make those in a larger size. Thank you once again for another wonderful review. I really appreciate how you broke down the Longrich/Field and Maiorino papers - I've always wondered if Torosaurus was indeed a Triceratops after all, but I think this breakdown has answered that question conclusively.
    If I were a raging Ceratopsian fan, I would be going nuts for all these wonderful releases that PNSO has been churning out. The fact that they are largely in scale (Toro, Trike, Styraco, Centro, etc) is such a delicious cherry on top of the already-remarkable sculpt quality. Alas, I have to limit myself to acquiring only my absolutely favourite dinos, so as not to break the bank...
    That baby is also absolutely adorable. Would make a great companion for little Rook, whom I'm glad also had a cameo (:

      Thank you for actually watching the science part of the video 😁😂 It's a little passion of mine to try to share some of these papers and a challenge not to omit important parts or key bridging concepts. It's really rewarding that viewers like yourself feel they are of value! 😁
      From time to time, new papers arise still to talk about this issue, so I would say that Horner managed to stir up a real hornet's nest that still has repercussions today.
      PNSO really makes life difficult for us! On the one hand they delight us with each offering; on the other hand it often seems like they're trying to bleed us dry! 😁 I understand however that there is a sale of sort on Aliexpress, with discounted prices and free shipping to the US, so you might like to check that out.

      Thank you for your generous words! Torosaurus is one of those dinosaurs that I really have plenty to say, and I am absolutely delighted to get a model that is unequivocally Torosaurus. The rear of the frill and the abruptness from the neck is quite puzzling, but if you are able to paint then you can really do no better than to give what I consider a superlative sculpt the paint application you want exactly.
      I've often wishes I'd learnt how to do simple painting in cases like this where just one little change would make a world of difference, but still, I really can't complain. This is a massive model and it currently has a very imposing presence on my table!

    • @thomasmonroe7947
      @thomasmonroe7947 2 роки тому

      It’s probably going to be an easy fix but the process of matching color schemes can be daunting if dabbling in paint correction is not the norm. I have done model repairs for years and still learn something new every once in a while. A little patience and practice is really all it takes when I run up against a wall.
      This guy will probably start with a carefully applied coat of dark grey acrylics on the back of the frill with some subtle lighter tones and accents.
      If I need to seal it will be determined after everything dries.
      The orange is just too jarringly out of place.
      I try not to do the “favorites” thing with dinosaurs but most of us do, anyhow.
      Torosaurus has always fascinated me just due to the immense size of its skull/frill.
      What an amazing thing it would be to see a herd of such huge animals.
      Having said that, let’s all do what we can to encourage and ensure the continued existence of our extant large animals like elephants, rhino, whales, etc.
      Find legit organizations that work toward real world applications to save our fellow space travelers and give what you can.

I'm waiting for a sale to grab this guy and the Stegosaurus, hopefully. Now for that Acrocanthosaurus and Sinraptor, which I pray are both in the Prehistoric Animals line. • @firegator6853
    @firegator6853 2 роки тому

    even if amnh 5116 is torosaurus whats wrong? doyle works fine as the female of this torosaurus too with more simple brown and black colors and smaller frill and you can assume that the midline big wide scale at the middle of the top of the frill is some kind of deformation like that styracosaurus with extra horn then the horns and beak are simply part of the individual variation you showed
    so in these factors pnso doyle will just change name, the figure will still be accurate representation of amnh 5116 so whatever that one is doyle is too without any body change
    i see many people judge the figures quickly just from the promos i wish they looked deeper into them than that and think naturally using even living animals for comparison and logic not just the shape of a skeletal which is btw modified to look perfectly healthy...if for example a dinosaur had scoliosis skeletal won't show it will it? but if a figure decide to make a specimen with a bit of a more deformed arched back or a bit of fat quickly call it inaccurate
    after all each figure has name showing they are certain specimens not depictions of the whole species
    so as long as a figure has accurate skeleton and muscles its fine for me the rest are only based on logic and possibilities

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 роки тому

      There is nothing wrong as such. However as someone who is interested in anatomy, and for my viewers who are interested enough to actually watch the science part of my videos, it is only responsible to share the fact that the AMNH5116 which PNSO bases its Triceratops on could in fact be a Torosaurus.
      Likewise true to the content on my channel, it is also responsible to point out that while Doyle could be a Torosaurus, PNSO Doyle clearly has a parietal P0 and Torosaurus _latus_ does not. T. _utahensis_ however has been suggested to have one, so Doyle could double up as that species if they like. But it will _not_ be the same species. One can certainly make an argument that any variation forms within an acceptable range of variability, but there is a reason why established species are based on autapomorphies which if visible externally, should be represented on a model.
      That way my viewers or anyone watching can decide if that model is exacting enough for their needs. Many of them buy only representative models of dinosaurs, and these aren't cheap figures especially for Western collectors so every bit of information I can give about a model helps them decide one way or other.
      Another example is the PNSO Parasaurolophus, based on ROM768 which that spinal pathology which many viewers have told me they do not like, and is the only thing that stops them from buying. Without pointing this out, learners who are unaware would still think that that cleft was a normal feature, as indeed I explain in that video with some depictions even suggesting that cleft makes a nice recess for the end of the head crest.
      As for scoliosis, it depends on what kind of scoliosis you are talking about. Congenital scoliosis presents with spinal deformity, and that would certainly show on a skeleton. Functional (non-structural) scoliosis generally has no spinal deformity, being an effect of factors such as muscular imbalance or leg length difference. However even then, one might expect long-term positional abnormalities to result in bone remodelling that could conceivably show.

      WWD was a powerful influence on many people, including myself. I can't believe it's been over 20 years, and no other documentary even comes close in my opinion. Perhaps the upcoming Dinosaur Planet will give us the update we're all looking for, and if there has to be a replacement for Kenneth Branaugh then there could be few so worthy as Sir David Attenborough!
      Unfortunately I don't have either of the Papos, so I can't do a comparison. Perhaps when other reviewers get this, they will! 😊
      I really hope that PNSO continues on this trajectory, moving into better paint apps and more decently sized figures, and giving us something that differentiates Museum Line figures more in future! At least the box won't be so ridiculously big compared to the actual figure itself. Theropod babies would add so much to the illusion of these animals being animals, not monsters!

    When I see this figure I'm 100% sure that Torosaurus is no more a controversial genus. Just look at those life-like appearances. Damn, I'm in love... This figure clearly depicts that the Torosaurus is in fact so different, truly unique, and a magnificent beast. And figures like this will rest assured that the Triceratops - Torosaurus controversy will be put to rest. I'm so glad and thankful that there are companies like PNSO who go the extra mile to give their customers what they deserve ( Even though the figures are pricey ). As you said, my dear Sir, now we all are eagerly waiting for PNSO to give us a Chasmosaurine. And I think they will select something controversial like this for their next ceratopsian figure. Maybe they will go with either Pentaceratops or Titanoceratops. Because those two dinosaurs are another controversial ceratopsian duo and PNSO love to lay their hands on stuff like that 😉 Let's see. I enjoyed this well-detailed and educational video so much, my dear Sir. Thank you so much and please keep up the good work as always. Much love to you 🖤

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 роки тому +1

      I absolutely hope they will give us a Pentaceratops or Titanoceratops. You certainly your dinosaurs! Yes there would indeed be quite a bit to talk about with these two genera. Those would be such impressive models to have in an array. Though I think they might go with something smaller in the same scale, to spread out the variety as well as the cost customers have to pay so as not to scare them off.
      I will definitely try to continue giving you guys content to the best of my ability. PNSO really makes this easy since there is always plenty to say about every aspect, including the science which we both enjoy. Can't wait for their next one, though that will probably be into May due to the lockdown.
      Take care over there!

    Thank you for this review!!! I have a potential video request in the same vein if convenient :)
    I'm debating getting a Triceratops, but I was wondering if there's any way that potentially you could do a review on the older 1:35 PNSO Doyle?
    I'm having a hard time debating between that one and the newer one, but I know there are still at least some scientific merits to that older one. It seems to be a little bit similar to Dr. Witton's paleoart. I was wondering if there be any way of doing some sort of a video going over the scientific merits of that previous model or inaccuracies? Especially since it seems to represent horridus as opposed to the latest Doyle.
    I want to thank you for your content! You make some fantastic videos that actually go to the scientific depth and detail that I always hope dinosaur media would go to!
    Thanks so much!!!!

      even if amnh 5116 is torosaurus i think new doyle also would fit as a female torosaurus with the more simple brown colors and smaller frill...horns and snout being a result of individual variation as shown at 6:00

    I ordered this the moment it became available. This will be the second torosaurus I’ve ever owned in my 28 years, and whilst triceratops is my favourite dino of all time… I’m even more excited for this then I was for the two Doyles.

      Thank you! And yikes.... reading your post I completely forgot! I was going to mention that this is only every my second Torosaurus, the only other one being the small CollectA.
      You will certainly not be let down by this. In many areas, it is improved from Doyle, and it really has PRESENCE in that bulk and pose. It's on my desk as I'm typing this, and although each new dinosaurs guest stars on my desk for a while before being rotated for the next, I have truly not have anything as impressive as this actually being right in front of me.

    I don’t think a baby torosaurus has been found according to jack Horner torosaurus is a mature version of triceratops as jack Horner described pretty cool that dinosaurs went though different growth stages as we do plus they are reptiles so they kept growing but in a slow amounts perhaps
