Enjoyed watching this as I regularly fish the River Almond during the Spring and Summer time months on both the Cramond Angling Club and West Lothian Angling Association permits.
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 permits are available thesedays from Fishing Around the Forth website for the Almond and other rivers in the Forth Catchment , both season and day . The River Esk in East Lothian has grayling also .
Great video Dave, nice to see you get those nice Edinburgh sea trout. Been to Edinburgh many times, lovely city and it’s always interesting seeing these videos of ‘urban fishing’ great that it so affordable too. All the best 👍
Thanks Matt, strange how these things work out! Very convenient parking at Cramond too! Can't believe how quiet it was (apart from the planes!😂). Take care man 😊
Great to see. I remember the days (not that long ago) when the Water of Leith was full of polution from a paper mill and the only life was rats. I also remember being taken to the River Almond on Sunday evenings to watch salmon jumping! Thanks for bringing back happy memories.
Nice video David. It brought back fond memories of Edinburgh where I grew up. Caught my first salmon there in 1974 @ 6lbs. Caught many trout in the Water of Leith around the Dean village. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mike! I struggled on WOL but the stretch I picked seemed deviod of any depth apart from the impossible overgrown bit and a bit of a gully where I fluked a wee bro. Probably better to catch it running off and in cooler weather! I just seemed to be spooking trout ! Would be incredible to get a salmon from almond. It would be a hairy fight with all the boulders ? Again would be interesting with a water dropping on there. 👍
Thank you so much! It's difficult driving through Scotland without stopping at bridges! It was supposed to be a shopping break for the Mrs but as ever I got a couple of hours in by the water. 👍👍
Worth a shot from where you are Davie! The Allan water is another I fancy, but a bit more expensive. Is there a sea trout run on the Devon? I've seen you fishing there a few times? Thanks for the comment 👍 😀
super stuff as always, those where lovely fish too mate probably their first venture back home after a few months out in the tide feeding and gettin them just before dark too! could be from a falkus series 👍👍
Thankyou James! right at the top of the tide, my guess proved correct! although I'd hoped for a heavier one amongst them. they'll be running into next month too. very nice break! and less than 4 hours up the motorway.😶
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 ive always found the smaller fish seem to go in first then the bigger 1s follow up, great water craft too mate expectin fish to take just after h.w. 👍👍
Wow, thanks Michael. Pretty run of the mill relative to your sea trout experiences but yes, greatly enjoyable! One day, i might try the same with Glasgow! Tbh I have never done tabs, it's a thing that came out after I'd started to play guitar in my earlier teens so I'm not sure how to explain it, I may have to send you a video of me playing it so you can slow it down if that helps? Very honoured to have someone else wanting to play it! It's a graduation from other tubers asking about using my tracks! 😅 take care
lovely. i live 2 mins walk from the water of leith and fish it regularly, its such an underrated water. the almond is a cracking water though and well worth the very cheap price.
Yes, an enchanting place! struggled on WOL but it was very low, and a bright day. Almond is superb, hope to get there next visit north of the border! 👍👍
Yes mate, for the almond it's Barnton post office, for WOL free permit, just Google the water of leith fishing permit, fill in the the on line form and download, keep on your phone or print off. I've put the details on the end credits too 😊
Some cracking little sea trout there fella, when fishing the palmered hackle dropper, is that on the surface creating a wake and is that your normal set up?
thanks Paul, tbh the set up was on an intermediate line the 1st evening, but I hung up a lot in the low water, so I switched to a floating line the second one. So on the 1st night it was fishing down in the water, 2nd it could have been "dibbling". I've found this a good sea trout fly over the years I've tried it, in saltwater too. Works either dancing on the surface or deep down in a spate with a fast sinking line. One of them I got on a 60mm tandem streamer looking for a big un! 🤣 found more promising pools on the morning we came home! isn't it always the way?
PS I don't really have a normal set up, I like using the surface lure too but there wasn't a response to it here, it's often a case of ringing the changes until something works! How's it been for sea trout in the North East?
Thanks for the reply, when i saw your set up i thought it was the fly fishing version of the bubble and fly set up fished on a spinning rod, which i've seen used on the Ribble. As for fishing in the North East, i'm not to sure not done any night time Sea Trouting for a few years now, did have a day time sesion on the Tees the other day though, lost a good fish about 4llb, but could of been a good Brownie. Maybe next year i might have to have a night time session or two, something so special about a river at night.@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25
Yes, not keen on bubble float and fly, I've got my own opinions about what's fly fishing or not (could be another video topic????) And bubble float isn't there, euro nymph without a fly line?? Hmmnn 😂

There are no salmon on the Water of Leith, not over the Dean bridge. Fished it all my life, so go to the Almond at Cramond...
Fascinating, informative video. Loved it 🎣👏😊
Not too far from out part of the country, 3 .5 hours or so. Very friendly club too. Thanks Mark 👍 😊

Cracking video and some lovely sea trout to the net, they looked quite fresh. The second beat you fished looked scenic. Thanks for sharing 👍

Soul Trader and Small Stream fly fishing is like Butter on toast isn't it. Really enjoy seeing you tackle these tricky small streams mate 👍
The butter didn't stick well to the WOL toast though! Lucky to get a wee brownie. Greatly enjoyed the Almond, can't believe nobody else fishing it! 👍

Perfect weather north of the border! V. nice to see lesser known, super-affordable wee burns 🏴
Yes indeed! lots of bargain fly fishing up there, and for that matter the north of England too! back to the usual weather now.👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 please fit in the north of England when you get a chance 😉
@Rocky-hs9ei coming quite soon! 😂
Scottish wild brown trout fight unbelievably hard had some of the best sport I've ever had in wee burns and streams on the fly
yes! I'm hopefully about to discover that later this week! hardest fighting ones I know are in my local brook, but generally small! 🤣👍
