Loved the comment “ after the two pounder it’s back to normal” ………. Nice video , good small river and beautiful scenery ….. Hot and bright conditions …..tough day … Look forward to another new vid …
Amazing video Fred! Personally I would have been content just to walk that lovely stream with my camera and enjoy that non fishing day! 😁😁😁. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful experience.
We all have our fair share of these. My worst ever was on a small stream in Southland NZ - a tributary of the Mataura River. I hooked and lost 9 fish in a row, not one of them had been under 2lb - most were much bigger. That was in February 2018 and I'm not really over it yet. 😂
@@wildfisher I went to NZ after fishing for years on put and take still waters and realised my river fishing was non-existant, and blanked! I came back and went to learn with an international and now catch a few but most of all realise how much more enjoyable river and wild fish challenge is. I am waiting to get a return bout!
@@kingfisherphil Yeah, the fishing in NZ is very different. I have been lucky enough to have had lots of trips there, but can't see much chance of getting back again with this pandemic.
Absolutely stunning surroundings and hat off to you sir for getting that nice trout in challenging fishing conditions.👏👏 I think those ducks just follow you wherever you go. Thanks for sharing your adventures and looking forward to your next ☝️
Hi Fred Have just come upon your channel and am enjoying your videos. Have just retrieved all my fly fishing kit from the loft as you have inspired me for next season , after a break of a few years Keep up the good work. Cheers Donald
Thanks Sean, nice to meet a like minded angler. Get yourself a ticket and have a go yourself. Hard going for an auld mannie like me but a nice river and worth the effort. 😊
It was a fine day, I must get back there soon. My usual local river is very low now and I have probably done it to death video wise. Time to seek out some alternatives. 😊
Another great video Fred and that was a fantastic trout. Clearly you've found a good spot there as my very limited experience of wee streams like this is that they hold a few parr and a few 4 inch trout. You did well to catch anything at all considering the conditions so clearly you are really rockin' this nymphing :-)
We were in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, fishing on the West Branch of the Ausable River, and encountered much the same conditions: Lower water, higher water temps, and fishing in the morning to avoid stressing the fish. Scenery was absolutely beautiful, though.
Do you attach your dropper directly on your leader above your point fly or is is on a short tag? Hard to tell in your excellent video! I had a similar experience recently by the trout were being terrorized by a loon! Only managed to hook one in an otherwise productive still waters! Tight lines!
@@wildfisher I’ve never used one before,,it seems to be a thing that’s causing a lot of debate, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea, would u develop as an angler if your watching the indicator all the time instead of using your instinct to strike , apparently it’s very effective I just don’t see how, reminds me off 20 odd years ago when I started fishing with a bait rod and bubble float, don’t like the thought of a float on a fly rod
@@davidgregg6703 Yeah that's the beauty of fishing. The owners set the rules and the angler is free to operate within them. I know some fly fishers who believe downstream wet fly is little better than poaching! 😂 You just have to decide what suits you and work within the rules of the fishery. 😊
Ive not wet a line for weeks. The little rain we had wasnt enough, and i can walk across the local river without it creeping over my wellies. I might have to join the macky bashers!

Thanks for the comment. Yes it's amazing how quickly he spell of the 2 pounder was broken and normality returned. 😂
Beautiful place and video and lovely trout anyone would be happy to catch don't understand how someone puts a thumbs down
Thanks for your kind comment. It is a lovely spot. 😊
Another great video Fred 👍 Spent many a happy day when I was younger swimming in that pool below the bridge. 👍
It's a fine river for sure Graeme 🙂

Great video and glad to see some long distance releases, makes me feel more comfortable!

Thanks. Yes, it is a lovely area and a superb river. I do wonder why those ducks pick on me though. 😂
hello, what a wonderful river and superb trout, watching you with the nymph gives me encouragement as I am just trying that
Thanks for your comment Michael. Upstream nymph fishing is well worth learning for sure. 👍

Thanks Donald, hope you enjoy your fishing. 😊
A Scottish beauty that fish, for sure.
Certainly a bit unexpected in those conditions. Thanks for your comment. 😊
It was a pleasure to meet you and have a wee chat today, in far from perfect fishing conditions.Another entertaining video.

@@stblblabla I do a lot of photography myself, that area is fabulous in autumn.
Fantastic and a beauty into the bargain 👍

Nice video thank you. I’m heading to Scotland at the end of the month and looking forward to a bit of fishing
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Hope your trip goes well. 🙂
Well done Fred, nice rivers
Did well on a hot sunny day. Lovely lovely piece of water tho. Would love to fish that on a rise
It was a roaster! Thanks for the comment. 😊

Thanks Philip. Yes nymphs can be quite effective sometimes. 👌

There is nothing to beat getting out fishing in wild country. 🙂
Great content, what reel are you using?
Thanks. think that reel is a Vosseler DC3 f I remember correctly.
Cheers, looking forward to seeing what you do when the season opens up!!@@wildfisher

Hi and thanks for the comment. I always tie on a short tag although now and the I tie a dropper off the bend of the hook if using a large dry fly. 👍
Looks like your near Helmsdale. That river runs for about 40 mile.
It's a lovely river for sure. Thanks for you comment. 😊
Nice video - what fly did the trout take?
Thanks. a weighted pheasant tail nymph.
What weight rod do you use?
Usually a #4 weight for this style of fishing. The rod in the video is a Sage ZXL 9 foot, #4.
Out of interest what’s the reason for the orange indicator
It's easier for my old eyes to see. 😊 Sometimes I use a big dry fly instead, but the indicator is better with heavy nymphs.

I am not a fan of the indicator I believe they should be banned on waters. Its to easy to fish with them takes all the skill out fishing.

It's certainly hard going right now!
sutherland ?
No, it's the Grampians,
Where is the best place for char in Scotland would you say
I'm not sure to be honest. Many of the big, deep lochs have them. Loch Rannoch is well known for them.
@@wildfisher thanks 👍
Loch Merkland past Loch Shin has Char
Not sure I'd call that a " small Highland stream "..! ?
It's a very variable river. Round one bend it's placid and shallow, round the next it can be a raging beast. I love it. Thanks for you comment. 🙂
