Well, that was lovely. You’re getting better with each video. I really liked the informative piece up front about the PTN, and the explanation of why you use it and when. Also, the little B-roll clips of the details you see when you are out are wonderful as they add a lot of mood and atmosphere for the viewer. As a noob, I’m interested in how you are presenting the fly - it would be good to have 30 seconds of how you’ve rigged it and why. You might want to try the Rode Wireless Go II mic setup btw. I find it really good when plugging into a GoPro media mod - very good sound quality indeed. Keep them coming - I’m inspired!

Great work again bud 🎣. Some lovely broonies there . Not fished the cart in a couple of months now with all the good weather ,hopefully with all the rain it will help once it clears up again. Be running full of mud I’m sure. You mentioned the presentation, Could you explain your indicator you use and how you choose your depth that you fish it at. I never seem to get it right. Dragging and caught up or possibly to short and not hitting the right areas. Tight lines
Cheers mate. The ground has been so dry, I'm sure it won't take the Cart long to clear out again. Doesn't seem to have come up much at all! I use those wool indicators, but a couple of people have asked about them so I'll try to do a bit on them in the next video. Depth is really tricky and you could spend all of your time fiddling with the length of your leader. In the summer I would err on the shorter side, just because fish will tend to be looking up, even if they're sitting on the bottom. A rule I've heard is to aim for 1.5 times the depth of the stream for normal flows, and if you're fishing super slack water obviously go for about the same depth as the river. Keep persevering with it mate. Can be absolutely deadly when you get it right 🙏🏼🐟🎣
Amazing video i wish we had rivers here like that. Planning to record my next fishing trip for some trout but i have no clue where to start haha. Awesome video as always!
Thank you! My advice would be to start by recording everything. The fishing, the gear, the scenery. Then try to put it together in a way that tells a little story. Good luck! I enjoy the video side almost as much as the fishing 🙏🏼🎣🐟
Awesome video as normal mate! Would love some tips on fishing high coloured water? I fish the kelvin and it has been raining non stop in the sunny west end for the last two days!
Cheers Craig! I'd go with brighter, heavy flies. Nymphs with a bit of flash or a weighted squirmy can be absolutely deadly in coloured water. Streamers like a Martin's Minnow can also work well, even for smaller fish. They'll tend to be hanging out in the slacker water where they can get out of the main flow so concentrate on areas like near the bank, behind rocks etc. Most of us struggle in high, coloured water so don't have overly high expectations! Rivers like the Kelvin go down just as quickly as they go up so if you can hit it as the water is falling and clearing out, you might do really well. Could be sea trout and grilse in the system now so make sure you're fishing with strong tippet! Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣
@@SouthsideFlyFishing thanks for the tips bro! Never used a squirmy but have one in my box so will head out soon and have a go! I am pretty useless so never have too high expectations don’t worry! Tight lines

I’ve been watching your videos since I started fishing in lockdown Sean, thanks so much for beautifully shot videos, the tips to look for local locations and some great tips too, this one being really helpful to me as I’ve blanked a lot on rivers. I’m down in Ayr, but lived in the South Side of Glasgow for years so it’s good to see a different side of the area. Do you ever fish down in Ayrshire? Keep up the great work and thanks again?
Thanks Murray! Really hope the tips have helped and I’m not just giving you bad advice 😂. Even the best of us blank on tough days so keep at it! I’ve never really explored Ayrshire much but I hear there is some good fishing down your way. Tight lines 🙏🏼🎣🐟
Cheers Dave! Just a single nymph here. If I'm fishing the bigger rivers, I'll pop two nymphs under an indicator but the single seems to be more than enough for the smaller streams.
Cheers Davie. If the fish are breaking the surface on a stream like that, I'd usually go with the dry or the dry/dropper. But when there's nothing showing on top, I find 1 or 2 nymphs under an indicator is a consistently effective approach
Hows about a few recommendations where to fish in Perthshire and the Highlands ie where to get permits.I'll start ,River Lyon permits from Bridge of Balgie tea rooms £10 for the day.A great day out and guaranteed fish.
Absolutely loved this video dude, the intro sequence is top notch! Really creative, informative and well edited. 🤙 Such a great session considering the conditions, well done man! 🎣🔥
Thanks Fin! Yeah, I had a lot of fun putting the intro together. If you're ever down this way, I'd be happy to show you that stream. It's a wee gem. And once again mate, congrats on reaching 1K subs on your channel! 🙏🏼🐟🎣🏴
@@SouthsideFlyFishing we will definitely need to get a semi-urban collab organised. 😎👌 I can’t wait for September in Assynt! Thanks so much dude, hopefully the start of a long journey. 💪
Love your videos pal. I’m across in Edinburgh and fish lots of areas that are very similar, in fact I think I recognise this area if it’s on my side of the country.? I’m usually fishing the water of leith or the Lothian esks with plenty of blue lining just outside the city.
Thanks mate! I've only fished over your way a few times but there are some lovely little rivers on the east coast. I actually have a good idea which river you think I'm fishing in this video, but I'm much further to the west! Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟
Cheers mate! If you go on amazon and search for 'go pro hat clip', I use the cheapest and simplest little clip on there. It was about £6 I think! The strike indicator is a bit of Loon indicator yarn but I've just got myself a bunch of the NZ strike indicator material that comes with plastic tubing. Few people asking about the indicator rig so I'll try to do a wee bit on it in the next video. Tight lines! 🙏🏼🐟🎣
Sorry to do it but I'm going to have to bring up the bobber subject. Do you use one all the time or do you use it for tactical reasons? Im a bit of a one trick pony and tend to stick with french nymph or dry on small streams.
It’s a good question! I’ve tended towards the indicator after fishing dry/dropper for years. Having a dry on is great, and does give you another chance of hooking a fish. But when you want to fish a heavier nymph or two nymphs, you either end up sinking your dry fly or having to tie on something so big and buoyant, you might as well bite the bullet and fish an indicator! I’ll fish the dry almost whenever I see rising fish. And I definitely think French nymph and euronymphing have their day. My reason for not using the euro rod in this stream is mainly the need to get in and about all those overhanging branches- much easier with a little glass rod! But I also feel long line nymphing gives you a bit of a stealth advantage especially in clear water or when you might throw a shadow/silhouette over the fish. Long story short, I try to tailor the approach to the conditions. But find the indicator is versatile enough for most situations and it’s easier to switch to a dry when you’ve already got a long tapered leader tied on 👍🏼. Tight lines 🙏🏼🎣🐟
Cheers Mark. I've deliberately not mentioned the exact spot. But if you're south side, the White Cart down by Busby (near the viaduct) and the Levern water have sections that are very similar in character to where I'm fishing in the vid. Tight lines bud 🙏🏼🐟🎣
Hi bro I've been watching your videos and you like to fish just like me I was wondering if you would like to go grayling fishing together this winter in the Avon in Hamilton I catch some beautiful fish from there any way all the best and tightlines.
Yes, mate! This one is an Epic 476 Fastglass 4wt rod. It belongs to my good buddy Liam, but it's an absolute joy to use. Presents a dry fly beautifully and has enough backbone to cast weighted nymphs. I also own a Vision Glass Trout rod and am planning on adding some more glass to the collection for next year. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣
I get them where I can, Buddy - it's often a case of shopping around to find exactly what you need in stock. But I've had good experiences with Tungsten Beads Plus, Funky Fly Tying, Angling Active and the Glasgow Angling Centre
Hi Connor, short answer is 'yes'. You need permission to fish 99% of waters in Scotland. The good thing is they're usually so cheap up here compared to anywhere else in the world I've fished. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟
Would u not be better using a sling pack instead of a fanny pack plus a separate backpack? Just saying liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes every man to his own I suppose tight lines
You're probably right mate. I keep all my fishing gear in the hip pack and only bring the backpack when I'm filming. A sling pack would be sensible, but I don't have one 😉
If you like the look of this stream, I'd give the Avon upstream of Strathaven a look. Some of the other Clyde tribs above Lanark can be really good too - if you can access them

@@SouthsideFlyFishing many thanks looking forward to your next video
Tight lines for the new season
Brilliant mate enjoy watching do you ever target sea trout ?
Thanks Craig! I've never really fished for sea trout but I've hooked a few by accident and they are brilliant fun 👍🏼
Quality stuff 👌👌
Thanks Sean, mate!
This is an exceptional video! What is the setup? Looks like a bit of something at the start of the leader which helps you detect a bite? Cheers
Brilliant video the PTN has saved me a few times, is this the white cart as well?
Cheers Kris, there's a few shots from a few different rivers in there!
Brilliant video once again, were you just fishing the single nymph under the indicator or did you have a dropper?
Cheers Dave! Just a single nymph here. If I'm fishing the bigger rivers, I'll pop two nymphs under an indicator but the single seems to be more than enough for the smaller streams.
Is your first choice the new Zealand style indicator m8? Tight lines davie 🎣
Lovely spot that, Richard 👍🏼
Another great video 💯👌🏼 what length of leader we’re you using here & what kind of indicator did you use 🤔 take care n tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Absolutely loved this video dude, the intro sequence is top notch! Really creative, informative and well edited. 🤙
Such a great session considering the conditions, well done man! 🎣🔥
@@scottishmountainman1290 Me too mate! We'll need to get a wee plan together for Assynt 🙏🏼🎣
@@SouthsideFlyFishing yeah man, I’ll send you my contact details on Instagram and we’ll get the ball rolling 😁🎣👌
@@SouthsideFlyFishing aye it’s well known enough. Cheers
Cracking fly and video as always, what do you use for your indicator?
Cheers Andrew! I've started using the New Zealand wool from www.strikeindicator.com/. Bit of gink and it'll float all day 👍🏼
Great video mate, 2 questions: how do you mount your gopro on your head and what bite indictor is that ?
Keep up the great content
Tight lines!
@@SouthsideFlyFishing thanks
Brilliant video mate really enjoying the content,I’m from south side myself where is this if you wouldn’t mind looks a good spot
Cheers Mark. I've deliberately not mentioned the exact spot. But if you're south side, the White Cart down by Busby (near the viaduct) and the Levern water have sections that are very similar in character to where I'm fishing in the vid. Tight lines bud 🙏🏼🐟🎣
Hi bro I've been watching your videos and you like to fish just like me I was wondering if you would like to go grayling fishing together this winter in the Avon in Hamilton I catch some beautiful fish from there any way all the best and tightlines.
you are using a fiber-glass rod, right? Can you tell us what exactly rod it is?
From where do you order your beads? Thanks.
I get them where I can, Buddy - it's often a case of shopping around to find exactly what you need in stock. But I've had good experiences with Tungsten Beads Plus, Funky Fly Tying, Angling Active and the Glasgow Angling Centre
@@SouthsideFlyFishing Thank you!
Do you need a permit for all these places you go to? Or is it not needed
Any good spots I can try bud I live in Lanarkshire
If you like the look of this stream, I'd give the Avon upstream of Strathaven a look. Some of the other Clyde tribs above Lanark can be really good too - if you can access them
