Arne and Carlos I am so very sad and heavy hearted that anyone would be harsh with either of you EVER. You both bring such joy, comfort and companionship and knowledge to SO MANY people I just am appalled that anyone feels they have anything to complain about. Just ignore them!! You are loved and appreciated very much! You don't need the complainers. I look so forward every week to sitting and knitting with you and I have so enjoyed the Setesdal videos! I also understand your feelings about your parents Carlos! It is hard to see our parents age and have the realization they will not always be here. Enjoy all the time you can with them and just love them, create memories that will last forever. I lost my dad a few months before Arne lost his Dad, and for me, it changed the way I look at life in a big way. Sending much love to you both. ♥️♥️

I was just going to write a similar comment. I find it appalling that anyone would comment so harshly on any of their podcasts that are always so entertaining, informative and make many of us dream of a trip to Norway.

I think the Norwegian speaking episodes were authentic and necessary to portray the traditions. Therefore, we are very thankful that Carlos spent so much time translating. I don't use CC when viewing your podcasts. Thank you for the wonderful episodes this summer. 🥰💙

I totally agree the Norwegian episodes were just wonderful. I learned so many new things about knitting traditions and I feel the native speakers were an extra special treat. Thank you Carlos for your work with translation. I hope we are introduced to more regional traditions in the future. You guys are just perfect the way you are.

I love hearing about your parents, Carlos. Aging parents is an emotional transition - you are both so loving to your families and I love these episodes. Just can’t say enough about how endearing you both are. The view from your greenhouse is beyond stunning 💕. Honestly, you can’t please everyone and some folks are just complainers- carry on! No subtitles needed here. Had no problems with any of the episodes…thank you for all you do.

Just a comment on the Closed Captions…. I tend to use CC on UA-cam, Netflix etc because my hearing is not good. I’m grateful that it exists - even with the mistakes in the auto-generated CC (which can sometimes be hilarious).
However, the work that Carlos has done on the CCs from Norwegian in the Setesdal episodes has been phenomenal! So much hard work and a labour of love that has been a true joy to watch. I know that I will be rewatching the entire season.
Thank you for bringing this part of your culture and heritage to a wider audience.

No I don't use the closed captions at all. I think Carlos has done a wonderful job with the translation of the episodes. Thank you for all of your hard work Carlos. Your parents are indeed very, very brave. I think others are correct that caring for your mother will keep your father doing well. I lost each of my parents before they turned 60 and I miss them every day. Treasure them as much as you can. Arne is correct to be annoyed that people are blaming Carlos for the mistakes. That's not a fair thing.

I know how hard it is to realize that your parents are aging, but they are still able to take care of themselves and live on their own. How wonderful that they can stay in their home and have assistance when needed that is something we pay dearly for here in the US. Please don’t let them know how much you think they are not able to do for themselves. You don’t want them to give up! ❤️ them and encourage them!

Oh Carlos sending big hugs to you. It’s tough when you realize your parents are aging. I do use the captions as I am deaf and sometimes it’s hard to follow without them so I greatly appreciate the captions. I am shocked that viewers were rude about all your hard work. This is so ignorant! Thank you for all you do for us!❤️❤️

❣❣❣You two lovely, talented, funny, warm, hard-working, interesting, inspirational guys should absolutely DON'T CARE one teeny weeny bit about any sad discontented viewers that might sit out there somewhere! There will always be someone using any excuse to put others down. No fair at all but there you go. This podcast is so professional and the most heartwarming and relaxed. The effort from both of you is very commendable. ❣❣❣
I don't use the close captions. I enjoyed the Setesdals episodes listening to the spoken norwegian language - being a Dane I might have had a bit of advantage over native English speaking people but the translation was TRULY AMAZING. You didn't miss anything in the translation, tremendous job, Carlos!👏👍💪
Cool that your parents start over in Sweden! Enjoy your visits with them! Lots of lovely, Dille😃

SOOO grateful to Arne & Carlos for the work that they and others (Eric and Anna?) put into this channel. Thank you all!! I enjoy this channel so much that I would support Patreon episodes.
English is my first language so I do not use the closed captions. GRATEFUL for Norwegian episodes that Carlos has spent all the time translating. I’ve loved hearing the Norwegian language (I do not understand a word) and following along with Carlos’ English subtitles.
My mother and aunt had a knitting machine like the one shown and she would knit our skating sweaters and leggings on it back in the 70’s. I still remember the sound of her knitting on that machine. Happy to hear that Carlos’ parents are well. I was crying from him sharing his love, concerns and tears about them. So lovely to hear. Okay, that’s enough from me today. Sending good wishes to all who happen to read this. Take care.

I just love you guys! And the Setesdal series is phenomenal! I had the same realization about my parents last year. It is an emotional process. I am focused on making more memories while we can. I also work in healthcare. It's fortunate that your dad can care for your mom, but if possible make sure he has time for himself. Stress on caregivers is often overlooked. The youtube captions has been a problem for a lot of content creators. But it's not your fault and I'm sorry people have been mean about it. Wishing you guys nothing but the best. Hugs from Hawaii!

Fortunately I do not need to turn on the crazy closed captions. Carlos and Arne, your beautiful lilting English is the perfect accompaniment for knitting. Thank you so much for your labor of love.
Carlos, your English translations for the Norwegian Craft Traditions episodes were really, really excellent. (I am trying to learn German, and your fluency in so many languages impresses me!). Thank you for the deep dive into the symbols and styles of folk tradition and the techniques used in assembling the traditional garments.
Sending consolation and sympathy, that moment when we see our parents as mortal is both significant and hard. Intense and meaningful. Grace and joy be with you both.

I feel sad that someone felt the need to criticize your efforts. Your shows are great, so if you can, let go of the “crappy” comments and carry on, knowing that you are doing a great job. Like you said, you are doing it for free. If anyone doesn’t like it they don’t have to watch it. Our world needs more kindness, not more judgement. A labor of love - that you would create for us and the world with this series of Norwegian traditions is such a gift! Please know that your 134K subscribers do not feel as the 15-20 complainers feel about your work, your translations, your interviewing, your sharing. Originally, Closed Captioning was created for the hearing impaired and in the spirit of making your work accessible to all, I hope you will keep CC turned on. I send you much strength and love for blocking out the complainers and opening up to the love of your fans. Be well.

Hello Arne and Carlos!! Thank you for your amazing channel!
About CC, I think that any person that has been on UA-cam for more than 10 minutes knows that the subtitles are machine generated... so it's obvious it can't be very accurate. I'm from Argentina and as English is not my mother tongue, I normally use CC knowing that is not precise, but it still helps me to learn more English.
Thank you Carlos for the translation you have made!! I absolutely loved every episode, I have learnt so much about your wonderful culture. Without your work I couldn't have watched it.
I hope you'll soon have millions of subscribers! Your channel has a stunning quality and we can appreciate that you put a lot of love in what you do and share, thank you again!

I wish the negative viewers would remember that all your episodes are FREE, you have many demands on your time (including making a living), and that Carlos’s translations were amazing and facilitated the services of local experts so that they could express themselves better in their own language. My dad looked after my ailing mum and learnt to cook etc during his 80s. Mum passed away 11months ago. My 96 year old dad is looking after himself. He got a air fryer oven which has a timer etc. He does his own washing, uses a computer and still interested in politics etc. We made sure the family home was safe for our parents starting in thier 70s. With family help able to stay home very independently. I live 3 hrs away and dad is in lockdown(in melb) but i have wonderful brothers and sisters who are able to assist him when needed. One bonus of living with a large family (12 of us). Though we have not been able to all catch up for almost two years. Give ypur mum a hug from me they are very special people. Alison

First, thank you for your generous gift of time, teaching and love to us around the world you are so appreciated. Second, people can be so weird and ungrateful, please don't let the negative folks get you down. The folks that support, appreciate and love you far out number that miniscule minority of negativity. It was your broadcasts that gave me the courage to try knitting with your Christmas Balls and now I'm knitting socks with joyful abandon. Regarding the closed captions I tend to leave the function on as there are some podcasters (not you) where the sound is not always clear for my older ears. I have no expectation that the UA-cam algorithm is going to translate correctly. My partner and I get a kick out of some of the combinations it come up with. I would have no problem if you chose to turn the closed caption off or leave it on. I'm just thankful to learn from and enjoy your broadcasts. Also, I'm so excited that you will soon be selling yarn on your website. As a new knitter it is great to source the suggested yarn from the designer at the same time as one gets the pattern, thank you. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you again Arne and Carlos, for an interesting, fun and informative episode. I don't use closed captions when viewing, but know there are folks who have hearing difficulties and the ccs makes it possible for them to enjoy your shows. Carlos, your time and effort spent translating has been SO helpful and very much appreciated. Hyper criticism is easy to dole out, but your detailed messaging to those folks should help to "educate" them and nip the harsh comments. With regards to our aging parents, what I learned as my grandparents and then my parents were entering the sunset years, was to ask them lots of questions about their younger lives, memories of their own parents, grandparents, etc. and any other curiosities you may have about the time before you were born. Meanwhile, your continued love and ability to spend time with them in the here and now is a treasured gift that goes both ways.

I have so appreciated you taking us on the Setesdal journey, and the translations Carlos has done are great. It’s very respectful to the craftspeople to speak with them in Norwegian when they are most comfortable with their own language. I am a native English speaker and don’t use the UA-cam-generated English subtitles, and believe you shouldn’t worry about doing anything to “clean them up”. You take the time to share your lives with us and that is a gift. Thank you, Carlos, for also sharing your feelings about your parents aging. It so resonated with me as my mother is 95 and now in memory care; I live in a different country and am fortunate we can still use video Skype every so often to visit (and grateful for a kind nurse who facilitates this at my mother’s end). You both are a blessing to us! Thank you!

Oh the biggest thing that helps actually is that you don't pound loud music over your voices. With less background noise I can hear you ok, with music in the background they'd be no hope for me

No, I do not use closed caption when you speak English. Your English is perfect and when I read your cc translation I read so fast who cares if one word is wrong. We know what you are talking about.

Please pay no attention to those who complain about the closed captions or translations. Sadly, you can't please everyone all the time, but the vast majority of your viewers are extremely grateful for your channel and look forward to every new episode. Thank you for spending the time and money to connect with us. Carlos, I am so sorry that your mother is doing poorly, but it sounds as though your father is a lovely gentleman who takes excellent care of her. Have a lovely week friends!

I am sorry someone complained and discouraged you. Your videos are most appreciated and they are wonderful. The closed captioning is not necessary and I hope you will not stress about it. Thank you for all the many hours your put into your videos and as you said, they are from the heart---they are free.

It breaks my heart that some people criticize any part of your podcast. I have enjoyed every episode you have produced. Most of us will never have the opportunity to visit Norway and experience the wonderful cultural traditions. We are so fortunate you take us along on your adventures! The likes and followers on UA-cam channel reflect how much your content is appreciated😊

Arne & Carlos, the UA-cam captioning on your episodes is so helpful. I use it all the time. Captioning in general often has mistakes; some of them are hilarious. Doesn’t matter where it comes from. I don’t worry about it. Please don’t take people’s comments about the automatic UA-cam captioning to heart. It’s fine. Also, Carlos’s transcription of the Setesdal episodes that were mostly in Norwegian was excellent. Thank you. I learn so much from the two of you and appreciate your UA-cam episodes very much.

To offset these complainers let me start by saying I loved your beautiful videos, I loved hearing the spoken Norwegian, and your translations are successful because I understood and enjoyed everything. I don’t understand why some people seem to get their *joy* from bitching and moaning. It’s been a pleasure watching you working at your profession and your lives since I found you doing crazy quilting. Can’t you just block them for being relentless grouches? Thank you for what you do and teach. You have become part of my life. Sorry that I go on for so long.

Carlos...you are so fortunate to have your parents. Mine died at early ages and it's so hard as a younger person (I'm 43) to not have my parents.
I completely understand your emotional state. I was crying listening to the love that you have for your parents. Spend every moment that you can with them because in an instant they can be gone.
I just love watching you 2!!!
Much love to you both from Minnesota, USA 🇺🇸
    P. S....I just don't get people who have to complain about something!!!! Just be happy in life! Life is short so enjoy every minute!

It must be so nice to have them closer now, but the emotion of not seeing your parents for more than 2 years must have been immense. I shed a tear for you. Your parents will be so pleased to be nearer to you too.

I’m a native English speaker and I have the closed captions on because, well, I’m often looking down at my knitting as I go. I absolutely appreciate the time and effort that you put into these podcasts, and get so much joy from them. Those who don’t understand how closed captioning works, well, I suspect for every complaint there are thousands of people who are watching and loving every moment. Who cares if the odd word goes awry - it’s usually amusing and giggle worthy. The Sedestal episodes have been EPIC xx. Much love from here on Plague Island.
