I´m sharing how to measure circumferences and am giving you the standard measurements I uso to draft my own neckbands, armbands and different widths of binding. The sky is the limit and this allows you to make changes to your patterns to achieve the look you prefer, with professional looking edges. No fancy equipment needed, just your sewing machine.

I thought of you today when I was unpicking a too short neckband. I should have followed your advice and measured the pattern pieces instead of blithely following the pattern! 😂 I have learned my lesson!

Now I understand why my neckband was too small. I measured at the edge. Thank you!!
I just made a muslin for a knit top that I drafted from a RTW top. I added a neckband but didn't like the look. I just ended up turning the whole thing to the inside and top stitched it down. I think doing the double fold binding will give me the look I want.

Thank you so much for this video. It’s been so helpful for me. I love the percentages. I guesstimate the length of my bindings which doesn’t always give me the result I’m hoping for. All your videos are so helpful but this one I really needed.
I guesstimate many things in my sewing but bands and binding I prefer to be more exact about and it saves some seam ripping time :)

I will see these bands instead of folded hems. This looks so amazing. Jersey knit is my favorite fabric to sew. I know it's the difficult fabric but I love it.
This is so useful & helpful, especially the tip on hand basting the bindings & using a 1/4” foot, it will save me so much time seam ripping. I’m calling hand basting my new sewing super power lol. I’ve always thought it took too much time but it actually saves time redoing things.

Thanks again Karina! I pretty much know what I am doing, but I always come check out what you have to say when I am about to start projects. You often either show me, or remind me of an alternate way to do something..in this case binding/neck bands. Still working away at that capsule for Mexico. I had an internet technician in to do some repairs today and he had to go into my sewing room. He was pretty impressed with the projector set up.

I hate the math, too busy. I do all my calculations with my measuring tape. Double the amount, fold in quarters, etc... Works all the time. I am a subscriber and I do enjoy your videos. BTW, I've been sewing for 55 yrs.
I learned so much from this video, it's amazing. I really like how you have come up with your own techniques for sewing and I am using them all. The measuring around the neck and armholes at the seam allowance instead of the edge is going to make my life so much easier. Yestterday I made the Willow wrap dress and followed your advice on the neck bining and lining the back bodice, it's my best make yet, all thanks to you. I make 'neck' bands for my knickers using the % calculations you mention and they are always super comfortable, much better than adding elastic and it uses more scraps.always a good thing in my book.
