    One thing to note is if you set up your private game you can up the amount of resources or look at ones you're joining. You can even go as far as starting with the highest gear so many ways to customize if you don't want to play the "normal" way.

      While this does help with the tedium you will soon find that there's not much else to do if you remove or simplify the gear progression. As M said, it's mostly about pvp fights and competition or cooperation between players to keep the game fresh, without it you'll be bored long before reaching max lvl unlike sth like Valheim that has the proc gen exploration and a really immersive building system to keep it fresh.

    I enjoy this game so much more then Valheim. The level of polish the devs put on this title can not be understated and this is hands down the easiest and fastest inventory management in any survival game period. They allow you to store and organize 1000's of items with a single click faster then any other game in the genre and they launched with that feature and everyone else had to play catch up. The only game that might do it slightly better is pal world which allows you to craft from any storage box. V rising was quite a pallet cleanser after the boring mess that was nightingale.

    As someone who has beaten the game 3 times now, the new brutal difficulty mode they added, completely makes it feel like a new game, in terms of the combat. Especially if you use a different caster focused build, as opposed to a fighter one, or whatever. It's not just stats, virtually all the bosses have new moves. And things you could just tank through before, you now have to pay vital attention to.

    I have about 40 hours into the game. My biggest gripe is, unless you want to play solo, the castle decay is annoying because it forces you to treat the game like an MMO and log in daily even when you have stuff to do or want to play other games. I understand this is just for server / hosting reasons, but the constant threat of losing your stuff kills it. That being said, if you're into the game, I recommend just playing solo.
    Someone suggested playing solo, up the research time, etc., and the game becomes legitimately much funner than its vanilla setting.

    recommend to everyone. 9/10.
    decay, and timers can all be adjusted in server settings. and honestly its default is way more forgiving then Valhiem..
    about midway you can get thralls, to farm goods for you. and of course, building multiple crafting benches with for the timers speeds those up. so decent levels of automation.

    I love the V rising gameplay. I have over 1200 hours in the pre release version, which I played while going to college. This time around I won't be playing it multiplayer, as I have a job and a life. These kind of base defense games require a lot of time and an open schedule. It works just fine as a singleplayer game or on a pve only server. Its a bit less fun to not encounter other players and have fights out in the open world, but the game is still good without it.

    Got a few friends curious about this one. Dunno how well it’d work for a small group, though. Dedicated server seems overkill but at the same time it’s a pretty grindy game in small play sessions.

      @ihatevnecks7015 Місяць тому +6

      That's why you have the host tweak the server rules so you have stuff like increased gathering yield, increased crafting/refining speed, stuff like that. It's very customizable. I'm playing with just one friend and we don't find it to be overly grindy really.

      I played it as a 2-person-co-op a few versions back and it was absolutely fine. One thing to note is that sending out minions on missions only makes sense on dedicated servers where you have offline progress, but you can definitely compensate for that through the gameplay settings.

      @twigtwig3110 Місяць тому

      I've hosted a server for my friends on release and when Gloomrot came out, and we're doing it again now. About 6-8 people usually when we're playing. It works super well, especially with the new brutal mode which I *highly* recommend. The boos fights are challenging enough and scale with the number of players in them, so you're never going to feel like you just mobbed a boss to death. Progression is linear, but since you can share a castle and research it goes by a lot faster, and you can easily tweak server settings.
      Personally I advise making harvesting resources faster instead of turning up the amount of resources harvested, I think this is better for balance overall, but that's just me. You can do both, as well as adjusting pretty much everything about combat - player health, damage, and magic power, enemy health and damage, the amount of each stat you get from items, etc.
      And if you or anyone in your group likes base building, they're going to have a field day with it.

    Brutal is more than it states, apparently it adds new attacks many of which actually made me think about what spells I was taking to a fight. Having Double Block can come in handy when a boss decides to throw truck-stop sized AoE's at you for the next 10s. If you're comfortable with souls games, I highly recommend Brutal Difficulty, it's extremely well made.

    I like how this game is also a “girl friendly”. I can never get into any combat games, because they just don’t appeal to me at all. This one is an exception. It’s pretty, everything in this game looks nice, I love the style, bosses are very charismatic, players on pve seem to get along (except for the rifts), I had very nice interactions and help. I also loved organising the castle and, surprisingly, killing bosses. I played solo a year ago with gloomrot update and finished the game, and this time I played duo with my partner on brutal. As I’m not a skilled player with especially difficult bosses we developed a strategy: he’d start the boss, get him down to low hp, then I come in and finish the boss. Obviously, with some other bosses there was a different strategy, but this worked very well. So I feel like it’s a very nice game to play with your partner, even if she/he doesn’t usually like combat based games.

    One thing that goes understated here is the huge variety of builds that open up toward the mid to late game. Ancestral weapons are infused with schools of magic, and spells can be modified significantly with jewels. Add a large amount of status effects that can interact in many ways, and you can construct very unique builds with synergies specific to your play style. It becomes very in depth.
    Regarding replayability, this game gets lumped in with live service slop due to its multiplayer component, when in reality it should be judged more like any other game that _ends_. Nobody cries about Elden Ring or Cuphead having finite content, and this is no different. If you're looking for a forever game, go play Minecraft. ;)

    I'm actually the 0.1% who's just playing this solo, for the heck of it.
    What I do is I normally switch on some UA-cam video in the background or listen to a podcast and just go about playing the game. And frankly, I'm having quite a bit of fun unlocking everything and getting new weapons etc. I do agree though that it's likely a much better game when you have mates to play with and a clan etc but I do prefer my lazy lassez faire way of playing.
    Though now that I think of it, maybe I will ask my buddy to come play with me...

    Brutal difficulty on a PvE server with low ping is the best way to play the game. Things you do have more weight (gear upgrades are meaningful and a must). decisions mean something and winning against a boss is always a dopamine rush.

      @Spriktor Місяць тому +1

      Decay is a non issue, in private simply adjust sertings or it doesnt drain when server is offline. In other servers its still not an issue, blood essence is found plentyful and you can craft/save up your own with the blood press and fill the heart for days in little time, with like 13+ days as max or so, can me more depending on server too. Decay is there to make sure public pvp and pve servers wont be stuck with dead castles spots nobody can take

    I played this for a bit in Early Access, and even though I played solo, I still had a bit of fun with it. (I stopped playing once they announced the multi-floor patch would reset all progress.) The big approach that I took that I think helped with it is that I considered it to be more of a sandbox. I didn't worry too much about what you could argue was the linear flow. For example, if the next named entity with V Blood was over in the east but I thought the area up in the north looked niftier -- even though it had a tougher named guy -- I went up north anyway! I know I ran into that Chaos Archer at one point, and that fight took a while of dodging and attacking. I also went and killed that Bandit King and the Armorer because it sounded like fun. (I think there was a quest too?)

    Just to add to the "review", the brutal difficulty mode is actually how the game is meant to be played in PvE. Bosses have improved AI and new mechanics kn top of better stats.

    Leaderboards

    Parkour
    This game can stay alive if they have consistent updates aside from cosmetics. Adding new bosses will only bring so many people back. They need to have something for players to come in weekly.
