Wow ! I am discovering you 2 awesome people, thanks to Rachel Maksy who visited you for the viewing of the mummy. Your passion and knowledge of the the Egyptian history is an absolute delight to take in! Thank you !

I'm so happy that you started a youtube channel and are making more videos! I have followed your interviews/ talks on various documentaries/ instagrams for a long time and you two are just so much fun to watch. I have also recommended you to many of my friends and relatives back in China and they ALL LOVE IT (well, of course I had to screenshot and translate your content). I was born in an archeologist family in China and my parents both love egyptology, so sharing your content with them (because you update so regularly and quickly) is my new way to enjoy time with them while I'm away from home. I just want you to know that you have reached many parts of this world by spreading knowledge like such and it's just precious. Thank you.

    Hello.
Thank you for uploading this video, truly fascinating.
    May I ask you something?
I have heard that the ancient egyptians did not really know how their deities looked like.
    I mean.
    yes.
they made statues and many other things "depicting" them.
But these images did not really depict how the gods looked like in a physical way, but in a symbolic way.
The images depicted their attributes but not their physical features.
Unlike, for example, the greek gods, who had specific humanoid appearences and many other things that characterised them, the egyptians openly claimed that it was impossible to know how the gods really looked like because they were spiritual incorporeal beings.
I have also heard that the ancient egyptian religion was not polytheistic in the same way as, again, the greeks, but more in a phanteistic or panentheistic way, were the gods were all parts and aspects of an higher form of divinity.
Something symilar to the concept of divinity in the majority of hindu traditions.
Were the gods are all aspects of the supreme divine spirit known as Brahman.
    Is that true?
Could you be so nice to give me your opinion as actual informed egyptologists?
I'd love to know about it.
If not, I can always wait for the inevitable video about the complex egyptian religion and philosophy
    No problem
    ✋🏻

Thank you, Doctors Darnell. I cannot overstate how much I am loving your content. In just a few videos I feel I have been gifted with knowledge I never knew I needed to know. It reveals how surface my knowledge of Ancient Egypt is. That reminds me I am off to experience the 3D depictions so that I can feel something of what ancient tourists must have felt. Just think, in the future, there may be a whole new iteration of humanity crafting their own virtual depictions of our then ancient culture. I wonder at how they will regard us. My best to you and yours.
    Looking forward to your next.

I originally wanted to see more of your content after the collaboration video with Rachel Maksy but it only lead me to Instagram, so I followed you there. Stunning photos always, it really blows my mind how pretty your outfits and photos are, not to mention the accuracy of clothing's and education breakdown in those IG posts. True dedication. So I'm excited to see you finally have videos out out in your own channel. Definitely subscribed!
I just like to make a suggestion if I may. I am interested in learning more about Egyptian history, but your knowledge and explaining are far too advanced for my understanding. Could you please create more basic knowledge and terminology videos later on so I can learn those first and maybe rewatch these? Also really fascinated in how did Egyptologist first learn how to read Ancient Egyptian writings or know what each character means???

Another great video! This channel is such a breath of fresh air for the platform! Another interesting greek word for something ancient egyptian that has persisted to this day is sarcophagus, a word literally meaning "flesh-eater". And if i may ask a question, what was the ancient egyptian word for sarcophagus? Did it have a special meaning like in greek?

Thank you for discussing the complexity and depth of the subject. Learning and teaching art history for survey courses, I have always loved that there will be places that interest me enough to dive deeply. The pure joy of this is that I never, never reach the bottom because even the most simple things have layers of history and application leading to their genesis and shifting with their use. (My experience suggests that if you put 3 priest/scholars of any religion into a room and ask for explanations of their practice, you will emerge with at least 9 versions!) Your posts are a joy! (P.S. I am endlessly nosy. I love the dining room you have been presenting in and hope that you will present in other interesting parts of your environment.)

I love your channel ♥️ You both are so eloquent and knowledgeable, but I feel like so much of it is lost on me. I don’t really know anything about ancient Egypt but it’s a fascinating topic. I would love to see future videos that are more introductory, I think they would reach a broader audience. Is it possible to do a brief overview of ancient Egypt, introduce subjects like hieroglyphs, mummification, tombs, Gods, possibly chronological videos of the most influential rulers. It was so interesting to learn that they had animal humor in ancient Egypt. I know it’s my own naïveté, but I don’t often think that these older cultures had humor. I don’t feel like the average person has a good grasp on what the people were like. I loved learning that there were Greco Roman tourists also, the tie-ins with the rest of the world help give structure to my understanding. I know these intimate discussions are for people much more intelligent than me, but I want to learn from you as well 😊 Oh and please do a video about your backgrounds and experiences. You are both so fascinating!

hey guys absolutely loved the video and thank you for kindling my love for these incredible topics. I wanted to ask you regarding your book on the netherworlds, as someone that has pretty limited knowledge and understanding of the ancient egypt can I dive in to that book right away without prior reading or will I be confused and frustrated? Sending you love from Turkey!

Love this channel, love the content, love this video!
As a film person, gotta ask - what's your audio setup? Cause the audio sounds echoey.

Ohhh wait do you have the audio from both cameras in this video? Cause that would explain it

Yes, I am still learning how to sync and work with audio! Hieroglyphs are easier than fine tuning audio.

We have edited the subtitles now - so if you go back to the video, all of the names and spellings are accurate. We are making sure that we do this for all of our videos.

Thank you Doctors Darnell for making this bibliophile wanting to learn more about The Book of the Netherworld. And once the libraries are open, I'm going to do just that. Keep safe and healthy. My best to the Basenjis. BTW are any pets mentioned by name in Pharaohic Egypt like Queen Victoria's DASH or Edward VII"s Caesar?

    • @VintageEgyptologist
      @VintageEgyptologist  4 роки тому

Thank you for that lovely comment! Yes, we actually have dozens of dog names attested in hieroglyphic texts. And a few donkey names! You'll be delighted to know that Narmer the basenji will have a starring role in our next video!

Note related to this video, but I have a question. What role could women play in the military of Ancient Egypt?
Also, I am greatly enjoying the videos.
