- The 3.6 Liter Pentastar has a little trick up its sleeve, allowing you to unleash awesome noises with 5 minutes of work! It won’t go like a HEMI but it will sound like one!
www.summitraci...
As a father of 5 who just bought one of these at a buy here pay here... You won me over in the first 30 seconds. Lol
The only thing I wish these vans had was all wheel drive. You can even get a lift kit for them too lol. Also use a good oil like Castrol, and change the transmission fluid to Amsoil it will last a long time.
Guilty as sin!
I've got a 2019 model and these things have tons of power. I use mine for work but I keep it immaculate. I really wish there were more performance modifications made for this seeing how ubiquitous Grand Caravans are.
Remove the hood liner, hood scoop and straight pipe, turbo or supercharge if you are just begging for it lol
These engines can’t handle boost sadly
Yes, there is remove the spare tire 1. Rip coil packs. 2. 80 mm throttlebody with spacer. 3. Cold Air intake. 4. upper and lower intake, manifold ported out. 5. Diablo tune. 6. muffler and resonator delete. That’s all you can do to it you looking around 370 H.P but with the short gears the van has you’ll hit 0 to 80 so fast before the van dies out the van needs longer gears
370hp dayummm!
idk if i believe you lol
Just got a 2018 model. I only have one kid but still needed the room for what I do for work. Sold my WRX so it'll be nice having cool sounds again lol
Make some unequal length headers next, get that subie sound back.
"Listen to that growl" lol! Sounds awesome!
Oh Boy! In all seriousness I did figure out how to boost this engines performance, but it is still a minivan. You can only take a corner so fast. It does fly by many mid size cars in straight line performance. I have not met a minivan yet that has kept up with mine. My mod uses all the stock components with a few internal additions. It goes against normal thinking of what a performance intake is. I have done it for a few people to make sure it was a valid mod and it is. Rubber reducers placed in the air stream opposing each other. 3 inch by 2 inch rubber plumbing reducers you can find at your local big box store. One goes in the airbox cap with the reduction facing the filter and the other goes in the resonator attached to the throttle body with the reduction facing into the resonator. The fit is tight and secure. You can just put one in the resonator near the engine and get a boost of performance, but for the full effect you use 2. This creates a low pressure effect in the air stream and increases air flow into the engine. Works for all Dodge Caravans and Town And Country's from 2011 to 2020. I have not looked into the Pacifica's air box setup. I do believe its different. The ability to remove and reinstall the components mentioned is necessary.
"I have not met a minivan yet that has kept up with mine."
That's because literally no one is trying to race it. You're the only one thinking he's racing.
@@codyrebelcb Your gift of assumption is alive and well I see. I generally drive easy, but I have the power to move if I need it. No need to encourage bad behavior in other drivers.
@@grawey77 the way you word your comments make you sound like a pompous individual, just FYI.
@codyrebelcb We all have our faults. If I was pompous, I would not have shared my modification here.
@@grawey77make a video on it
these look great with a single racing stripe down the hood. and pinstripes down the side.
I'd rather have my minivan over a SUV that has shit cargo space and leg room.
I have a piped aluminium intake inletting behind a hollowed out fog light bezel, and a main muffler swapped to a Borla ProXS. My van legitimately sounds like a tuned Infiniti with an exhaust. I race it too. It'll handle V6 Camaros pretty well, and will even squeak out a victory if the ground is flat or downhill.
Mine is full of equipment, but on the rare occasions I have it empty it scoots surprisingly well!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 - Yeah, mine too. I regularly carry about 500 lbs of tools. The tune I put on it basically nullifies that weight penalty in an impromptu street race.
A tune? On your caravan???
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 - Yeah, it's nothing too exotic, just a bit of tinkering with the VVT timing. Really helps it get into the power band sooner.
Did you have a shop do that?
The same thing can be accomplished by removing the resonator on the down pipe or by removing the down pipe. That way you can keep using the stock box with the emission return hose.
i've done this to my 2001 caravan actually! it's right out the fender! I've always straight piped it. i wanna do so much more, but it's a minivan so modding isn't everywhere. :( it's hella fun tho!
I have a 2015 I bought for a campervan. It came with the same engine as the Dodge Challenger that year. They squeeze a few more horsepower out of it for the Challenger, but its still 283 hp in the Caravan. When you punch it, you'd better be hanging on! And that 6 speed tranny shifts instantly. It was a pleasant surprise. I didn't buy it for performance, but I sure enjoy leaving those punk kids with their "hot rods" at the stoplight. lol
Dude that sounds SICK! As far as the cold air intake, you just need to put the filter at the end of the intake duct: instead of removing the accordion tubing, you shoud remove the air filter cover (and air filter) so you still retain the stock piping up to the KN pod filter and drop it in the airbox. I did the same on my Opel Corsa (opposite scale of car but same intake design) and the intake temperature is almost like stock (except when stuck in traffic with no airflow) and sounds way better. It's a win-win basically!
Enjoy sounding awesome!
I did try that, but the sound was much quieter surprisingly.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 Really?? In that case I'll take my suggestion back lol. perhaps the accordion bit is designed specifically to quieten the exquisite intake melody
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 , over 240K and not even a MIL?! Then you sir are one of the lucky ones! I "inherited" a 2014 and it was only 6 yrs old barely 110K miles and the first thing was the notable "tick/tap" notorious Pentastar valvetrain failure BUT I didn't know yet that this was the problem. The first actual problem was being on the highway late night after leaving my beloved Mother's side in the hospital and was a few miles from reaching her house and suddenly "BING BING BING!!" bells and warning lights and a stink of oil and fuel and the engine "FUH-FUH-FUH-FUH...." down the highway. I made it to her house and had to go the next day to buy some tools and a scanner. "Misfire cylinder 1." I ended up checking the fuel injector resistance and it was "144Ω" whilst others were ~12Ω so I figured that's at least one culprit. I researched all of the materials I needed etc., disassembled and repaired it, ran fine. So far I've replaced half the injectors on it, yet I have a 20 yr old car and haven't replaced the first injector since new. Not long after that was the sound of a "gunshot" in the driver's door, the electric window assembly snapped so I began looking into how to fix it, I fixed it. Then the engine seemed to become "weaker" in starting and that "tapping" became louder so that's when I went to change the oil and filter, they usually had a local shop change it.
I noticed drill-bit like shavings on the oil filter and I couldn't believe that whatever shop changed the oil/filter for them never mentioned it to them. Apparently with that $#&@ design for some reason the roller in the roller rocker will "drop", there's is already a close tolerance between the rocker frame and camshaft lobes. So as it "drops", the cam lobes will begin to ride on the rocker frames and get shredded which is where the "shavings" came from. So again as the "non-mechanic" with practically no tools etc., I began to disassemble it and found that all cam lobes were slightly scored but the rear bank intake cam lobes were shredded to the point that they were COMPLETELY ROUNDED and anyone who knows what a camshaft looks like, they know that the lobes are normally "tear-drop shaped" so that's how much steel went into the engine. So I ended up replacing all 24 valve adjusters and all 24 roller rockers and the one camshaft. I still had to take it to the dealer for final adjustments.
Sure it "ran like new" but what a #*@$ design to pass off onto customers. We have a 20 yr old Chevrolet with other 240K miles ironically, had it since new, it's the old tried and true pushrod engine, never had to replace any valvetrain components, still cranks and drives down the road to this day.... Yes this freaking thing must've been tearing up the camshaft around 80,000-100,000 miles and only 6 yrs old?! It didn't stop there either, the MIL has illuminated multiple times "small emissions/large emissions leak, catalyst inefficiency" and then they just go away and for months nothing. Then had another MIL "oil pressure ckt high" 96psi oil pressure at idle... Sensor was bad, replaced it.
Then the engine temperature - thermostat went bad, replaced it. And now the transmission is starting to shift a little stiff. And ALL of this was whilst I was taking care of my beloved Mother with all of her health conditions, treatments until she passed away....
This has been my first "Dodge" experience and it made me think is it that I should "DODGE" Dodge vehicles...
@zenithperigee7442 that problem was a 2 year deal, badluck on your part
To be honest I never could understand why minivans like the caravan and the town and country never got hemis hellcats scat packs super bees or any of those performance parts I think if they did I think these minivans would be still around today being made but instead of souping up an SUV like the Durango which to me is pointless SUVS are point less anyways. These vans should have been paid more attention to.
Those all had longitudinally mounted V8s to start with so I guess it wasn’t as much of a stretch. To hellcat swap a minivan would require redesigning the entire structure of the car. But plenty of people have turbocharged the snot out of the old Mitsubishi powered Chrysler vans
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 Maybe there is a way I can give a little extra power and nice growl to it with out swapping the engine like you said then redesign it so or maybe ask but will adding a dual exhaust do anything.
Nope. They do make a supercharger for the 3.6 in rear wheel drive applications but I don’t know how it would adapt to the caravan or if the transmission could take it.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 2005 town and country 3.3 litre
What about just changing the whole exhaust system and up grade it and add dual exhaust something has to give this plain reliable van some attitude not much put something
Haha awesome idea!
An intermediately aggressive solution would be to remove or plug the resonator on the intake and install a K&N panel style filter. Probably a little bit less loud but then its not a HOT air intake.
Even easier... unbolt the snorkel from the end of the air box. It necks down to an insanely tight 2.5" and sits just and inch or so behind the bumper. I call it the bumper sucker. You'll be amazed how much that little change improves sound and performance.
This is epic buds!! Love the lingo hahahha
Edit. Hey man I have this exact engine and van the filter you posted a link for is discontinued or not available but I found one near my place at Canadian tire I'll get it in the morning when they open but dude I totally took mine off and yes I can confirm you sir are a damn genious lol. 😂 bro it sounds bad ass. I'm so glad I typed in how to lower a van and your video popped up lol. Random I know but definitely glad I found it. Cheers my man
Awesome, what filter did you find? The same one as mine? Or a different one that fits?
If it’s a different one, please share the part number!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 spectre 8132-L replacement pod 4.25" Looks the exact same size
@hYd420 says it fits 4” at the largest and the caravan intake tube is 4.25”. I’m skeptical but if it works let me know and I’ll add it to the video description!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 so I went and got it your right it was only 4” I saw that when I got it. I got it on but damn it was tight lol I’m gonna go to auto parts store tomorrow and see if I can find the right one at 4.25
I found this online
Why not pull out the intake box and extend it to make it cold air intake ? You can get pvc that size and make your own. We use to do that back in the day and just spray painted it black to look nice. Home Depot has all the very large pvc for making cold air intake it works great.
Can you make a video replace the factory air intake box with a cold air intake setup ?
Hilarious... awesome hack...I just got one with a lil over 1k....im changing the exhaust.... 😂
When my Solaras K&N filter started to crack and deteriorate after about 6 years I sent the company some pics and they shipped me a new '00 Solara air filter within a couple weeks. Great company and product. I use the drop in filter in every car the family throws at me. I keep their old paper filters in a library for when I have to do a cleaning and reoil to keep them running when drying. lol Nice hack on the van. Might as well have some fun messing with people heads when around town
I’ll give it a shot!
How you call that filter please???
This is so dumb I am compelled to love it. Thanks.
That cool. I had my oil changed and when the place checked the air filter, they did not put the top back on correct. It sounded like that
Yup these vans love that hot exhaust air it’s sucking up
I clicked on the link for the filter and the website says that the filter is currently out of stock😢 do you know of another filter that is the same size or something else that will work?
Same for me I found this one
😅😅😂😂😂 So I started to look to see what we can actually do to make this b!tch a little more beefier and you had me thinking buddy. Thank you 🙏🏿 I have to try that but knowing me I’m going to fix the cold air in as well. Since I’m in Canada it would work like that most of the times but I want to go faster. Just added a Big brake kit to compensate for all these hills here in Vancouver 😅 She good 👍🏿 now
I wish these vans had awd. But i use one as a work van and it makes me lots of money...
i honestly thought i was watching Regular Car Reviews for a second lol
I'm assuming the maf sensor is still in the mix.... Typically it's in the intake ducting. Thing about the factory or any cold air intake isnt just about power, a hot intake charge can induce audibly undetectable detonation which will over time maybe sooner than later destroy the engine and at very least really raise hell with everything. Don't get me wrong I'm a total man child that loves immature shit like this but at least fab up some jankey tube to get that filter somewhere towords cooler air vs in a terrible place like that. Ps it does sound sweet!
This is awesome btw!
Put a high flow filter in original air box might sound better as well. Just think this van has more horsepower than the 90's early 2000's dodge Magnum V8's 318/4.7/360 engines.
I gotta caravan!!! I'm 100% trying this now

Cool But My Jaw Legit Dropped At 0:34. It's crazy Knowing A simple Van sounds Like A supercar. Recently I hung out With My Friend Hayden and He Had a Grand Carvan R/T. I've been looking at getting one of them 2003 Pontiac montanas they're all wheel drive and put a supercharger on it some all-terrain tires may be custom lift kit I ain't got no kids that is like that weird s*** like that like I've owned a 97 Ford escort station wagon and a 1997 Ford Taurus station wagon and I love that little escort and I free much treated like a truck I've hauled like 520 lb of scrap steel in the back of it exhaust was busted off so I was running open manifold still sounds better than a little Honda Civic with one of them fart cans on them
Good but I would like to do this to another Mom van
Anyway to mod afford transit like that

I love my 2016 285 HP Dodge Grand Caravan. I use it for work and its AWESOME so Im not gonna ruin the experience for a throaty small penis compensation sound. . great sound system and great A/C and very versatile. The Pentastar V6 though does suffer from top side valve rocker lashing and one needs to use oil additives to keep this in check. 225K on mine heading to 300K. I also use a standard K&N filter which did improve the performance a bit
What additives do you recommend for the rocker issue these Pentastars are famous for?
What oil additives?

Bad idea. Nothing but hot air going into engine
No oil no oil the oil goes into a map sensor your mass airflow keep away from oil it'll screw you up fast
True bro very true!
It’s been over 108k miles with no issues sooo
Filter oil on the MAP is not an issue, it's too light to effect pressure. There is no MAF on any Caravan, so no worries about it fouling the heating element. In this particular application, you have nothing to worry about.

Definately does not sound like a hemi, more like a honda civic with a cheap pepboys fart can and that's not the throttle intake you are measuring, its the resonator entrance, the throttle body is behind it.
you should hear an exhaust cutout installed on one of these. it will ony l fit about and inch or so in front of the stock reonsator. there is no other room. then the aftermarket resonator has to be installed in front of the cutout. Yes there is room for the resonator and cutout and that is about it. it sounds absolutely insane. you will need to add one more resonator in front of the cutout to make is sound amazing. a resonator made by vibrant. it goes aftermarket VIbrant resonator, Evo 2.5 inch bluetooth electric cutout, stock resonator, muffler, resonator. Yes i still like it quiet. i mostly drive with the cutout open. when the wifey is in the car its closed. and yes that van has an extra resonator. it sounds soooo goddam good. i might just add that intake, might
