I would HIGHLY recommend the audio book version, since he's narrating. When he speaks, it's mesmerizing.
Reuben Hodgins Right...
It's GOLD!
I love hearing him speak. His voice and articulation is brilliant. Gives something as interesting as the universe even more mysterious sound.
Thank you for recommending! Going to get this now :)
What are you talking about? and why did you edit your own comment?
He's so deeply passionate and ecstatic to share his passion and knowledge with others. That's a very noble and respectable thing. Very cool.
John Doe sure he's a curious guy who knows a lot about science. But I don't think he's as good as actual people who discover physics like Maxwell or Einstein
Zghost27 Gaming Maxwell and Einstein could not engage as large of an audience as him. Don't forget the important but painstaking task of collective learning if you want to reshape your environment to a more ideal state
Joshua O'Brien you couldn’t be more right my friend. If you have a society that doesn’t care to know about something then it will be much harder to advance us forward in that particular something. Take Old school Bill Nye (without the politics) and Heisenberg from Breaking Bad. We as a society are presumably much more interested in the field of science bcuz of those two. Therefore we have more people wanting to learn and progress our society. So in a sense Neil is the modern Bill Nye the “Space Guy” making science and astrophysics fun for people and less scary to pursue
but bro its not your fav anime or movie character so that u can compare them he is a fun curious and passionate guy
Joshua O'Brien Einstein lectured over the radio so sure he could
'My *'soul'* is in that book' '..it's almost *'spiritual'* .. Hearing a scientist describe his love for the infinite vastness and complexity of the universe using the idea of 'soul' and 'spirituality' is a beautiful experience indeed.
ikr
Abdul Basit Shaikh He’s referrring to the metaphorical soul not the soul as an actual real thing which is obviously is not
I have heard many so-called materialists, atheists, secularists etc. continue to use words like "soul"
"miraculous,""transcendant", etc. You would think that by now they would have deveolped a vocabulary based more accurately on their belief system and not have to rely on "outdated" antique "metaphors"? BTW what is a "metaphorical soul?"
Lol ... since when he became a scientist
He means his "sense of self" is reflected by the words he wrote in the book.
Idiot.
And THAT is how you advertise your book. Listening to him describe it makes you want to read it as soon as possible.
I love his books. Death by black hole and astrophysics for people in a hurry are probably my top books from him.
Yep, in fact I just bought it seeing this video
I'm buying it right now, and it's one of only five books I've ever bought.
Better yet, listening to his audio book narrated by the man himself will leave your ears quenched with that soothingly intellectual voice
It’s marketing baby 😎
This man knows how to talk.
Over people.
Yeah talk bullshit. The scientific community has been disputing the helocentric model for centuries,,,. ua-cam.com/video/F2iocQKdUKI/v-deo.html

"I'm lucky enough to be his friend and this is what it's like all the time". Casual biggest compliment to how geniune, honest and cool Neil is.
Does he interrupt you every time you try to have a discussion with him? (Like he did with Joe Rogan)
@@JJs_playground yes, that can be a character flaw with him. But would you rather have Neil or some dumbass interrupt you to speak?
Neil is full of crap. ua-cam.com/video/F2iocQKdUKI/v-deo.html
@@JJs_playground this video has full of Niel fans. Dot bother correcting them.

@THE ANGEL FORCE there’s always one
Gotta find someone that looks at you like Colbert looks at Neil deGrasse Tyson 😆
You read my goddamn mind. Then I realized: nobody actually deserves to be looked that way.
Except maybe Carl Sagan did...
Casey Broughton Yeah, no. Colbert's a christian.
+Joshua Sweetvale No he's Catholic. What does that have to do with anything anyway?
+Joshua Sweetvale *Catholic. Not all religious folks are anti-science - this coming from someone non-religious.
Who said Pac vs Biggie was the biggest beef ever. Pluto vs Neil is still going...
Amen Assefa I bet Neil is a vegan. He wouldn't touch it. And he doesn't believe in God. Amen (insert sarcasm) Amen
Reuben Hodgins it’s pretty sad that you have to reply to every comment on this video to show your hate towards Neil, your opinion is irrelevant and won’t change anything, click off the video if you hate him to this extent.
Huzz - Overwatch I don't hate the guy at all. He seems nice. He's just a habitual liar. But you're right. I DID waste my time and won't comment any more on this video. Cheers.
Reuben Hodgins I am intrigued, what has he lied about?
Reuben Hodgins how did he lie
What I like most about Stephen is that he actually lets his guests talk= better interview when you have this quality of guests.
The sound of Neil deGrasse Tyson laughing is one of the best things this universe has to offer.

I wonder how tempted Neil was to name his book: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe.
Haha. The fear of lawsuits probably kept that urge in check.
!! That would have been awesome!
leoselios778 I would agree. A hitchhiker is a person too broke and too far gone to have a coherent thought. Those who think there is infinite space must relate perfectly with hitchhikers. Congrats on being ... smert
If Douglas Adams was still alive, I don't think he would have minded all that much. He probably would have begged to write the forward.
I love when Mr. Tyson gets all deep and philosophical.

Hes not the "Chris Pratt of astro physics", Chris Pratt is the Neil DeGrasse Tyson of acting
I was trying to brew up a similar comment lol. The “Chris Pratt of astrophysics” is an understatement.
He's the crisp rat of ass trophy sics
Chris Pratt is a generic shitty actor. To compare him to NDT is an insult to NDT.
But chris prat DOES acting. He doesnt just teach acting.
@@yjkgbybtb4462 NDT is just a media figure. He's far from being a great scientist. He has never contributed anything new to science.

dominican5683 I think you just described why hes so popular with the average person. some people are offended by him because they think science shouldnt be popularized.
no its this thing called an original thought.
actually i have seen people argue about it online. some people just hate pop scientists because they're stuck up and think science only belongs to "intellectuals". like i said, some people. there you go.
what shit am i repeating? what are you talking about? and why are you being so shitty? did i offend you or something? wait....how old are you. if you're under the age of 18 im not interested in talking to you.

Stephen please have an episode in which your only host for the night is Neil, he's too interesting to just listen to for 7 minutes
Miguel Robledo NDT is a guest here, not a host.
Listen to/watch his show Star Talk - his own full show that he hosts every week and has lots of great guests on there, celebrity and scientist alike.
I was going to suggest the same thing. Podcasts are where it's at. I think Joe Rogan has interviewed him a couple times as well.
Miguel Robledo on
Neil Tyson for President 2020!
Moron, he doesn't want to be president.
Drew the Conqueror - Oh, if ONLY 😣😱😫😭
For real though. I wish this dream were possible, but alas, devious and dishonest politicians or wealthy, ancestrally blessed individuals always seem to lead.
+JR Nicholson: Apart from all that, I have heard tell Tyson's more or less an atheist. Last I checked, mention the word atheist to the average church-lovin' "God-and-country" voter, and they will clutch their proverbial pearls, say "ohhh, what is this world comin' to, with all these godless heathens," or some similar thing, and go on some sort of crusade to push that atheist off the ticket. The Repugs tried to label Bernie Sanders an atheist just because he dared to be non-sectarian in his spiritual beliefs, rather than specifically claim any Jewish heritage he allegedly had. Because Bernie, being a sane, rational man, knew that spiritual beliefs really shouldn't matter when you're legit doing the right thing by all people. But ohhh, the religious folks had a pearl-clutching fest about that concept, adding fuel to the anti-Bernie fire, sadly.
So no, I don't think Tyson would be elected, just because he is, AFAIK, an unapologetic atheist. I profess a Pagan set of beliefs, and don't necessarily agree with atheism. BUT...I will vote for an atheist faster than I'll vote for a right-wing nut job.
Drew the Conqueror I don't think he wants to be president, he already has an important job
This reminds me of one of his videos I believe it is called The Universe/Beyond the Big Bang where he stated that we are connected to the universe atomically, to Earth chemically and to each other biologically. After this short segment on the Late Show, I now understand better what he meant. I truly love learning about our existence and am always perplexed why we can not seem to get along with each other better.
Neil is just a lovely man! I love how passionate he is about astrophysics, it makes learning about it from him that much more enjoyable.
Lynda Matutu RIGhT!!!!
Humans are the universe observing itself
Astrophysicists are the universe's way of admiring itself.
We are all made of Star stuff⭐️🌌❤️
Actually, if we are just physical, we are all made of dinosaur shit recycled if your atheist mythology is true. And PROVE the big bang is even a scientific explanation by showing it is falsifiable. Make me laugh. Diffraction kicks it out of a job for explaining red shift, and the FSM kicks is just as competent for explaining the CMB radiation, as its aura. :-)
@@barbatvs8959 dinosaur shit is made from stars too
Except dinosaurs never existed, and the big bang never occurred.
I prove this in my series Atheism and Atheist Creation Myths REFUTED.
I used to believe in dinosaurs all my life, but I'm a free thinker, so I questioned and looked into it when it occurred to me.
Why don't you help your comrade and offer a plausible falsification scenario for the big bang to prove it is even a scientific explanation?
Being such an intellectual person, Mr De Grasse gets very spiritual so he can connect with any person with any belief, that is very extraordinary. This guy is very gifted, I hope he stays with us for a very long time.
I was mesmerised watching him explain space. Great man and teacher to human kind.

He's the super boss.

He tells you all that work was meaningless to the cosmos and slam-dunks you back to the beginning through a wormhole.
He is a gatekeeper for NASA. He does not want you to know what space is really about. The earth is flat (as far as we can see) and motionless (as far as we can see).

I'l say it again:WE CAME FROM A FREAKIN SUPERNOVA and then you take out of context what Neil said, to make him look bad.Well you what,FUCK YOU!
this counts as studying for my exams
The earth is flat and NDT is a gatekeeper. I have tested the absence of curvature (and many people around the world are doing the same) and I posted the evidence on my channel.
Oh you poor thing, I thought you were kidding there for a second... damn. I'm so sorry for you. I know non-Euclidean geometry is hard, but you can't just say nonsense like that and expect to be taken seriously as an adult...
TheManfio Okay. Explain what there is no curvature at 15 km as I showed on my latest video.
Because you weren't far away enough from the surface, son... I could tell you why in detail, but what's the point? Talking with conspiracy nuts is the same as playing chess with pigeons, they'll just crap on the board and think they won the game. It's ok to be different, just stay safe in your lollipop word of unicorns and tooth fairies, whatever helps you cope. Leave the real life to the adults.
TheManfio what is the minim distance then. Perhaps you should see evidence posted with similar equipment where longer distances still can hide the supposed curvature. I have one video where I can see targets at >20km that should not be visible.
Holy shit I've never been sold that hard on a book before - Amazon here I come.

Ahnaf Ahmad that is an excellent question!

I've been wondering this as well!
I like Chris Pratt just as much as anybody, but why was his segment longer than NDT's?
$$$$$$
"Star" Power.
Carlos Manriquez not bc of star power, imo. It is bc Neil had been on the show at least 4 or 5 times already. Through out Stephen's career, he had Neil on like a dozen. Neil will come back while pratt is on his 2nd or maybe 1st appearance. Hence, longer segment.
Interestingly, the video with the movie "star" has less views than this video with the man about the stars.
@splashpont: as it should be :)
I love this man. No one, save Carl Sagan, has ever made me feel so connected to the cosmos than him.
I had a physiology teacher who was as enthusiastic and passionate about his subject as Neil is about astrophysics. It was a life changing experience.

Tyson= The antidote to Trump. I need to listen To this wonderful man after hearing anything from Trump.
The Best
Tyson is one of the best communicators today...but after hearing Trump change a baby's diaper is nothing
Trump is a petty fuck, and we as a species are far too curious to give him the stage for too long. Science is the final frontier, and we are explorers by nature.

We are so small there may already be an alien civilization out there that don't even notice us because we are so small.
Actually, despite being so tiny on cosmic scale, we have a pretty noticeable radio foot print and that would peak the interest of any intelligent life scanning our section of the universe for life.
@@PieRatedGFX Can u further explain how?
@@PieRatedGFX not at the cosmic scale though. The oldest radio signals originating from Earth haven't traveled much more than 100 light years into space, so any observer beyond that would have no way of detecting them

Just want to point out that the Voyager spacecraft that went past Neptune wasn't the one that took the pale blue dot picture, that was Voyager 2.
Voyager 1 was the one that did it, and the spacecrafts last planetary encounter was the Saturn and its moon Titan. Voyager 1 was diverted to Titan and that manoeuvre meant that it was thrown up at an angle, out of the plane of the solar system.
Because it was high above the solar system rather than in its plane, Voyager 1 had a view of all the planets that Voyager 2 could never have, that's how a portrait of our solar system was created, which included the pale blue dot.
