Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show S1E1 (1984) - FULL EPISODE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 лип 2012
- After five series of Emu's World, Rod and the gang relaunched the programme as Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show on Friday, 13th July, 1984. (By a staggering coincidence, that's 28 years ago today - "today" being the day of upload.) To be perfectly frank, if you've got fond memories of the live era and think this is a good place to start re-watching them, well, there are quite a few teething troubles in this one, plus nerves I'm sure played their part - so personally I'd recommend skipping ahead to the 1985 series for your quick fix, and then come back later if you like. Nevertheless, even though things go wrong and it clearly hasn't found its feet yet, this is the episode that set the tone for the next three years of Pink Windmill fun, and that tone was "live panto".
So how has the format changed? Well, whereas Emu's World was basically a drama show with a coherent storyline in each programme - only broken by the one or two songs per episode - now there are a lot more distractions. In this particular video, you'll see the series debuts of Robot Redford and Boggle's Kingdom (the latter previously only seen in Christmas and Easter specials), plus the introduction of a studio audience and their participation. Emu's Spin Quiz, Grotbags's Grotto (a.k.a. the Cauldron Game) and the Post Office arrive for the first time, too. In fact, it all rather has the feel of Saturday morning TV, with Rod regularly breaking the fourth wall and addressing the viewer continually for the first time.
As for the Pink Windmill kids, in previous series they were many, but have now been trimmed down to ten regulars:
Catrina Hylton-Hull
Hugh Harper
Sarah Jeffs
Emma Whitlock
Joe Greco
Spencer Roberts
Lorraine Plummer
Anthony Hosier
Debbie Harper
Abbie Shilling
Quite a lot of hearsay and guesswork has gone into that. Can anyone help confirm any of it? Or, even better, tell us where they are now?
The songs, incidentally, are Can't Stop the Music by the Village People and The Beautiful Briny from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Many thanks to Louise for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an old VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.) - Розваги

You got to admit, the dancing is pretty good.
Absolutely! A lot of people here are pretending to only like it all ironically, but we know their game... ;-)

It gives off such an 80s vibe and I love that

I'm sorry to announce the sad news that Freddie Stevens - the actor who played Robot Redford in this episode - sadly passed away on 26th January 2016 at the age of 81. You can read more in the description here: ua-cam.com/video/0BgtNxxuMFY/v-deo.html

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m Claire, the third one to play in Grotbags’ kingdom. I always wanted to see a recording of this and was so chuffed to see it. My son is now the same age as I was then.....very memorable childhood moment, remember it well!

WHY CANT I BE BORN IN THE 1980s 😫😫😫😫
Jay.
I know
I agree I was born in 2004!!
@Dagyhub creanbhntsr m depends on the places where you were born. At my place, 1980s was not that much different from current time.
No you want to be born in late 60s/early 70s
@The Rocktavius as a poc I can say it wasn’t that great. But to each they’re own.
The live episodes were funnier, because as Rod himself gamely admitted, everybody could have a good laugh when the phone-in contest went wrong.
As much as I love the early episodes, the whole tone changed with the live format, and ultimately that's what's proved to be the best-remembered era.
I love Catrina, since she's super expressive. Gonna watch this to death like I did to Lazytown.
You won't regret it. :-)
So... now I know why my parents have called me 'grotbag' my whole life. Excuse me while I file for emancipation.
Ouch!
Nicola Hughes She was my favourite on the show . I call my son it . I just showed him who she was . Don't think he's impressed . 😂😂
Hahaha, that's funny!
I’m not even an 80’s British kid and for some reason this gives me nostalgia
My mum is in the audience at 20:06 she’s the one who got shouted at by the witch bless her all for saying her mates name, she got to meet her after though show and the actor apologised for scaring her though
lol
2:57 don’t mind me im just saving a timestamp for you know what.
You're providing a vital service.
12:30 this is first time I see Catrina in a more serious role. She is lovely.
The funny thing is, I get loads of messages asking if I have such-and-such episode because 'I was in the audience that day and Emu attacked me' (or 'Grotbags wallopped me')... It seems that many kids dreaded being mauled, but to those who were, it was a badge of honour!
I was in the series with the kids from Pattisons school and wondered if any of those episodes were on here. Would love to show my Mum now in her 80’s and I’ve never seen them all 😂😂

Great that a new generation can appreciate Rod and Emu! :-)
The Pink Windmill Kids brought me here. I was very surprised when I have seen this show the first time! I love this kind of humour and Rod Hull was a likeable entertainer. When I read on Wikipedia he had been died in 1999 I was very unhappy. :(
Now I'm practising my part as Sarah for a cosplay.
Greetings from Germany. :)
It's gppd to hear that the humour still works in Germany! Glad you're enjoying the Pink Windmill. :-)
I have to study for my uni exams and... I can't stop watching it! This is so retro and funny aaand I just love the Pink Windmill! ♥
YOU CAN'T STOP THE STUDY
17:03 THERE'S SOMEBODY AT THE DOOR
I do not believe who it is at 12:30. It is Catrina Hylton-Hull who is not only Rod's daughter but I know her better when she presented The D.J Kat Show on Sky One in the early 1990's. I have some of her appearances on The D.J Kat Show.
Oh and thank you for uploading this.
You're most welcome - glad you enjoyed it!
Catrina was one of very few Pink Windmill Kids to get a regular role on another show. Funnily enough, Joe Greco (her co-host in the Post Office section) also presented the DJ Kat Show in its later years.
VideotapeFTW
I see I am not the only one old enough to remember The DJ Kat Show.
The reasons I have her on VHS is because they used to show The Hero Turtles and I would record it onto VHS and and get some of the segments either side of it and also because I thought she was a babe and when ever she wore something sexy I would record it.
Aye it took me a couple of seconds to recognize her. I looked at her, saw her name and then my jaw hit the floor.
hoggy2much999 Ah, yes - mention of all these kids' programmes brings back such memories for someone (cough) my age!
By the way, if you've got the means to upload them to UA-cam, clips of the DJ Kat Show are very scarce indeed, and I'm sure there'd be a lot of interest. Not least from me. :-)
Wait catrina is rod's daughter?
@@beachboysswiftie yeah she was his stepdaughter

just been talking to joe on facebook
IM IN LOVE WITH THIS
Why do I actually like this? And why have I fallen down a hole from this meme...
This show actually lowkey seems fun and well put together.
Absolutely
i’ve seen the Can’t Stop The Music performance countless times (thanks to the memes), but i honestly didn’t expect the actual series to be, well, actually watchable or enjoyable.
i honestly expected it to just be a generic, typical, average british kids TV series that should’ve been forgotten about.
but what i got was much better.
Pink Windmill Post Office!

I was today years old when I found out that Catrina is Rod Hull's stepdaughter (guy with the emu puppet)
2:57 an icon was born
It’s getting near to 40 years since this was made, I know very well as I joined the camera department for work experience in the summer of 84. What an amazing experience!
Oh, wow - did you actually work on the show? There are quite a few shots where crew members are clearly visible, so you may be able to pick yourself out. What was it like at the Lenton Lane studios in general?
I don’t even know what this show is supposed to be, but I loved every second of it.
42:15 "Children from the CORONA stage school"
Well...that just hits different
It's weird that although I wasn't even in the 80's yet I feel a sense of how great the UK was, a sense of nostalgia.
P.S I forgot how talented his backing team were: great dancing from those youngsters.
Especially when you consider that this was broadcast live! They'd never even dream of attempting that sort of thing nowadays...
Not only that, but I doubt any channel would *dare* put a bunch of kids on live national TV like this these days.
17:09 THERE’S SOMEBODY AT THE DOOR!
17:19 AGRHHHHH!

Thank you The 1980s for giving us such a wonderful gift.

You're welcome - I'm delighted that a new generation is finally getting to enjoy these shows! You're right in that it wouldn't take much changing to make a similar show successful today. In fact, I's still a bit surprised at how well they still stand up by modern standards!
