It's absolutely mind-blowing that this was made *42 years* ago! It only seems like yesterday and it hasn't dated that much. 42 years before this show would be 1938! (just before WWII had started & Hitler was 5 years in office in Germany) and the war had only ended 35 years ago where people were flying around in Spitfires and Lancaster bombers listening to Glen Miller on the Wireless, That's just so crazy
@@NOTODIVERSITY123Now you know how Native Americans Australian Aborigines, South Africans, Indians etc. felt when Europeans landed on their shores. The difference is, of course, that non Europeans are not trying to exterminate Europeans...

I remember watching this in 1981, and recording it on my new Sharp VHS VCR! Mickey's voice sounds like the Cylons from "Battlestar Galactica!" Probably created using a Vocoder?
One of my favourite shows when I was a kid. I loved Mickey but was also a bit scared of him! Still got the MM annuals I had for Christmas in the early 80s 😊
The actress who played Janey, Lola Young, quit acting and became a University lecturer and author, and wound up with a lifetime peerage, and is now Baroness Young of Hornsey! Also, two years before she starred in Metal Micky- a kids programme- she played a prostitute in the crime drama 'Out'. 🍄
I'd love to see the musical number which Mickey did with a bunch of household appliances - I think it may have been a part of a Christmas episode, if I'm not wrong. It was a lovely catchy song, "we are machines ... we are made of steel and iron ... we work for you..." something like that, and all the machines could speak and sing :-). I'd also love to see the episode where they are stranded in a small house that's snowed under, with a girl who has diabetes, and has no insulin - Mickey volunteers to sacrifice the insulin in one of his internal systems to save her from going into a coma,, but at great risk to himself - so the family vote on whether they should do it or not. It's a beautiful episode because it shows the personalities of the family in a deeper way, as each give their reasons for their vote.
Man I remember this as a kid in NZ I vaguely remember an episode where they were watching a penalty goal that went in & they weren't happy bout it,but metal Mickey rewinded it & made the goalie save it Something like that Stretching my memory as a kid, when I forget things I did last week lol
There was an episode where Mickey was menally controling Steve in a soccer game but he'd read the Rugby rule book by mistake. They had to quickly locate the correct book before the game was lost.
Fun fact: Michael Dolenz is actually Micky Dolenz of The Monkees. That was the name he used when he lived in the UK, worked as a director and producer foe British television.
When I was still living in the UK I used to love this! Many many sly jokes that went over our heads as 10 year olds. Took me years to realize Metal "Mickey" was Mickey Dolenz working at the BBC.
12 years ago I was undergoing a daft punk kick & I searched “daft punks first song” & metal mickey popped up. Genuinely confused. Now everything makes sense, I guess.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Watching this as an adult, Micky seems to have a lot of 'Spike Milligan' about him. I could almost imagine him writing the lines and voicing him 😂. I was obsessed with Metal Micky as a kid. I always wanted a robot because of this show. To be completely honest, I still do!! 😂

I am seeing this for the first time at this moment because I just remembered reading an article in the early 1980s about Mickey Dolenz, which said he was involved with this program.
He was the whole reason I watched it back then... even as a 3 / 4yr old! =oD Of course, my mum and sister had to make that clear to me first (regardless, I loved watching it anyway! Mum & sis basically told me Metal Mickey WAS Mickey Dolenz)! As I was loving the Monkees re-runs too... Which would've made me part of the 2nd generation of Monkees fans. I THINK The Monkees uesd to be on at around 10am (on Saturdays) maybe 11am... something like that anyway... (On a different note, damn, I miss those Fizz Bomb sweets! I loved them too...mmmm! Another different note, occasionally there would be slightly more 'adult' humour hidden in the show. I've already caught a couple of 'risqué' lines... I think!?! I remember having a Metal Mickey robot toy too... *sigh*
I remember watching this when growing up. I was between 10 and 12 1/2 and enjoyed it despite being much younger than the Wilberforce kids. Whatever became of the characters?

Yes. I find Metal Mickey often puts the second world war into historical context.
Are you on smack?
One of my favorites shows in the 80s on ABC. Loved it then and still love it now. Thank you so much, I feel like a kid again....
Hayley / Lucinda was a heartbreaker for the day wasn't she?
Beautiful.
I was more a fan of Janey to be honest!

Yes she called yes fluffy.
Didn't mickey call one of them 'fruitbat'?
Mickey seems to have the same voice as the original Battlestar Galactica cylons!
thank you for uploading this took me right back to being a kid

Saucy jokes and references to booze in a kid's show! Thank god for the '80s!
Hell yeah id go back there in a heartbeat😎👍
