This favorite Broadway song is on p.25 of Alfred's Adult Greatest Hits Level 1. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the lyrics by Trevor Nunn (inspired by T.S. Eliot). In the Broadway musical, it is sung by the character "Grizabella" who was once a very glamorous cat and is remembering her past with nostalgia but also declaring her wish to start a new life. The 1981 Barbra Streisand recording of it was particularly popular on her album titled "Memories". --Norma
This piano arrangement is by Sharon Aaronson.

Beautifully played wow alfred greatest hits have some wonderful solos, is this in book 1 or 2? Or is there only 1 book, Amazon says there are 2.
This is from the Level 1 book. There are actually three books in this particular Alfred's series. Nice variety of music in them. I include a link to the sheet music in the description above so you can look at it and be sure to order the right one if you want to learn this particular song. Norma
Well done! Funny, I've never seen Cats and didn't know this was from that show. Always liked this song. Maybe I'll have to check out that musical one day. :-)
I saw "Cats" once many, many years ago from the top back row in a Los Angeles theater. This song was definitely the audiences' favorite of the entire musical. The British composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, is well-known amongst Broadway audiences since he also wrote the music for Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Evita, just to name a few. Norma
Lovely.
Thank You! Norma
Beautiful song,good job
Thank you so much!! --Norma
Nice cover of this famous musical hit :-)
Thank you so much! --Norma
Miss Norma!
Your rendition of MEMORY inspired me to go buy the book, and play it.
Question:
Did you ADD any embellishments to your performance of MEMORY?
Any extra chord tones?
Yay! So glad that this video inspired more piano playing!! Always a good thing! I didn't add anything to this arrangement. If I do play something different from the notated score, I will mention it in the description beneath the video, so you can always check there. --Norma
¨Beautiful. Please, how could I cosneguir this score, in this version
There is a link for the sheet music in the description beneath the video. --Norma
Nice
Thank you! --Norma
Your performance of the song sounds more full and lively.
Perhaps because you have already memorized the song, and are playing it more FLUENTLY.
I actually don't have it memorized. In the Level 1 book, I'm really just sight-reading. But that ease of sight-reading and fluency has come after years of playing the piano. For the Intermediate/Advanced level pieces, I do have to practice them before recording, some more than others. Also, if I do anything different from the score, I made a note of it in the description beneath the video so you can always check there if something sounds different. So glad that I was able to make this arrangement sound more full and lively. :)

I've played and memorized this song before ... some of those left-hand notes are incorrect. (Sorry, but it's true.)
It was probably a different arrangement or from a different Alfred's book. I double-checked it again and it was note for note the same as the "Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course Greatest Hits Level 1" book. I do have several other arrangements of this song in my home and yes, they have different notes. You can click on the link in the description above and see if it is the same book that you learned it from. Norma
Could be an arrangement...there's a chance that it could be a different version. I subscribed by the way! :DDDDD
Thank you! Norma
