  • -TEACHER DEMO-
This lively song is on p.16 of Alfred's Adult Greatest Hits Level 1. The words and music were composed by Max C. Freedman and Jimmy DeKnight in 1952. The most well-known version was recorded by Haley & The Comets in 1954. The original full title of the song was "We're Gonna Rock Around the Clock Tonight".
Whenever I hear this song, I think of the TV show "Happy Days" in which they used an abbreviated version of it as their theme song.
This piano arrangement is by Martha Mier. I skipped the extra repeats/verses for this demo, but you can certainly play it as many times as you'd like. --Norma

Picturing Richie, Ralph-malph, Potsie, and (of course) The Fonz as you play. So fun! Almost makes me want to learn to play... :-)

    Wow!
This song is more of a beast
    than it looks
because of the fast energetic way you play it!
    The same is true of
    “On Broadway” p. 20.
    My list of
    “songs to learn”
    is getting very long;
and it is all your fault!😅

      Thank you great lady.
As detective Colombo would say, “one more thing.“
Do you know of a collection of intermediate level
lush, lovely, Spanish folk/love songs such as FANDANGO?

Okay, so, I finished page 119 on Alfred’s all in one course and this book says you can start on this song at that point (upper right hand corner). Anyway, I’m enjoying learning the song, but it seems that this is a pretty big step up from “Little Brown Jug”. Sometimes I wonder if they’re just trying to knock me down a peg. Anyway, I see this is done by the lady who arranges Jazz, Rags, and Blues so it should be interesting when I get to that book.

I agree with you, this is a step-up from "Little Brown Jug". I've found in general that the songs in the "Greatest Hits" series are more challenging than in the "All-In-One-Course" since they are often less patterned and a bit more erratic as the arrangers were trying to retain the essence of the original with a minimum of notes. I LOVE Martha Mier!! She has composed a huge variety of music for piano students. Very, very grateful for all of her wonderful music series for students. She has lots to pick from in the Jazz category. Much to look forward to and enjoy as you continue on. --Norma
