    Wrel I see you doing this in several of your videos and you should mention it at one point in the future.
    You sometimes start hip firing, then aim down sights. Idk if you know, but when you ads, it will keep the hip fire accuracy.
    A tip would be to quickly let go of the trigger if you catch yourself doing this, then continue firing, which will reset to ads accuracy.

    2 tips:
    Safe landing 2 is enough to receive 0 dmg while falling from max Icarus jump.
    Try Adrenaline pump, Icarus, Pump shotgun and medkits on a tower, fun as hell.

    I tried them on PTS and loved them. I dumped some certs and maxed out them the day they were added to the live server. No regrets, I love the things. Once you get the hang of them, you can pull off a lot of the same things as the other jets. Plus, since I usually run adrenaline pump, it fits well with my preference to a high speed approach to light assault. It definitely makes it easier to take care of pesky beacons on top of towers.

      loopuleasa If you crouch, you can ski on the ground with 0 friction :) You only get slowed down when scaling steep hills. Just hold jump+crouch+W and steer with mouse for maximum speed!

    I love the new jump jets! :) The big thing that I found out is that you should not think of them as a jetpack but as a JUMP jets. I use them as a jump boos for quick manouvering with ledges, vertical bases, walls... The only jump jets I use now :) Works wonders with my pump action shotgun.

    Conserving momentum by turning to the side while jetting - the same thing works with regular jets, and I use it constantly. I call it "speed drifting". You sort of "rub in" your thruster exhaust into the air :p
    I played with maxed Icarus for a few days. Found it incredibly fun in some situations, and "bang my head against the wall" bad in others. Speed is fun, but Jump Jets are better due to versatility, so that's what I'm using.

    Wrel I have a suggestion for any future graphics like the one at 4:58.
    I found it just a bit confusing as to what lines and C-4 referred to which jetpack, particularly the top 2 paths for C-4, which both can look like they come from the Icarus path. It's very good that you separated it into the individual parts, and that it was not critical to know which C-4 came from which path, but it might be more important to the idea being demonstrated in a later video. You could try and use different colors for the different lines in a graphic like this where all the parts are combined and intersect. It's not necessary, but it might be a slight improvement that can be made.

    love them. Never used adrenaline pump before but i used it all the time with icarus. I liked to see that you did as well. It synergies well and makes you a very slippery target

    I recently tried the icarus jumpjets, and they were awesome!
    If I were to say, drifter jumpjets are the horizontal component of normal jumpjets while icarus jumpjets are the vertical component.
    Jumping with the icarus is amazing and slightly useless unless you've done it for a while.
    At first, I found climbing buildings tough. After learning the timing for the icarus, it became really easy.
    And for some strange reason, icarus seems to carry more side-side momentum. (not entirely as mentioned in video, I know...)
    Jumpjetting between buildings also became easier with Wrel's technique.
    Although hilarius miscalculations happen, causing you to fall to your death when you jumpjet for a second too long. I think that if you get used to the icarus you'll be using it more often, although you'll miss out on all the horizontal maneuverability you could get out of drifters or normal jumpjets.
    It's like super jumping!

    I played with them and found some interesting things:
    - icarus tap - be above a group of enemies, drop down, tap your shotgun to OHK one of them and fly back up, rinse and repeat. Enemies usualy never react fast enough and you're already gone. I use deimos for this.
    - icarus windowing - this works with c4, grenades or shotguns - you can fly up and down across windows and kill people as you fly past it - enemies never react fast enough. This is the safest way to delivre c4 into a window full of deadly enemies.
    - you can also deliver c4 onto flying aircraft if they fly low enough - just boost up into the air and cross your fingers. icarus is fast enough for this.
    Overall it's a nice shift in playstyle and has its uses. mainly in the interior of towers or biolabs. I am eager to see if DBG implements a strafing jetpack that allows us too boost sidewards like a sideways icarus.

    I personally love them, with the facts they you have put. Been playing with them sense PTS.Also remember some things from when it was in alpha that proved helpful still. Still inferior to drifters by all means in my books(still trying ot hunt you down >:( ). Best thing i enjoy them for is mind games like how you pulled off at 2:55.

    I love this Jump Jet especially for Tower-Stomping. It makes it so much easier to ascend to a level up. I do agree with what you said though, the standard Jump Jets are more useful all around, but I seem to be able to find use for the Icarus Jets regardless.

    I see a lot of tactical applications with the Icarus, I love it, I've never been able to ascend and descend faster and further before.

      +LawlFakers My favorite use is when we are fighting at the towers, and I use them to quickly go up a level, but otherwise, I prefer reg jump jets.

    Unlike the other jetpacks, the Icarus jets actually feel like I'm in the trailer. They allow for a much more fast paced playstyle and while they might be predictable, it's so easy to get to very high places fast that most people won't see you until the death screen pops up. I've already maxed them out and had get fun playing with them, no regrets here!
    It's also interesting to see that if you try to slingshot off a jump pad, you can actually shorten your distance in the air, rather than lengthening it. This helped me out a few times when fighting at bio lab satellite bases to easily get in behind the enemy.

    So the gist of the whole "conserve momentum" trick is to start the jump running forwards, then "twist into sidestrafing" during the thrust and then back to the forward direction as you fall?

      Basically, yeah. I think the jump jets strip the momentum of your facing direction, so as long as you're facing to the side while jetting, it'll let you conserve momentum in the direction you want to go.

    I enjoy icarus jets in tower fights. It's like having a bounce pad anywhere on there that won't hate you. Especially shotgunners that take recon xbows for that glass cannon capability with shock value. More air time is less shooting time anyway, feet on the ground gets you kills.

    I love icarus jets, I have a lot of fun jetting in the air and timing my burn, so much so that I usually always run them unless I see a situation where drifter or standard is needed. I.E. wide bases or such. The ssuicidal speed of the jets really fit my style of all or nothing.

    I only use this in a loadout with a hard-hitting long range carbine like the HC1 Cougar or Pulsar C. I use this to scale tall structures and start raining down bullets from above. Try it, its quite effective.

    I enjoy Icarus for its harassing abilities. A building full of enemies essentially turns into a tower stomp with them, as you can pop someone, hop up to the roof, come back down and pop someone else, and no one can react fast enough to get you.

    Honestly, the icarus jump jets are my favourite. The offer the most versatility when in sniping positions (With carbines) in either Hossin or largely built areas.

    I find them extremely useful when trying to scale walls or fly up to high points. Aside from that, the mobility you get while thrusting is painful and it empties its fuel pretty fast

    I have level 3 of Icarus and I faced a situation where I see a sniper way up in the mountain near the base, sniping the people getting vehicles. Classic situation many have faced, to me the Icarus is an option I can go to, that is basically the opposite of the downdrift jump jets that let me coast down for long periods. I found when trying to scale the mountain faster/easier, I took a fair bit of falling damage. I assume then it was designed with the idea you would be using Safe Fall implant. I don't use it, but I suppose that could solve that issue, still I think part of the Icarus jumpjet should provide an increased damage reduction from falling. I don't know what the current numbers look like for damage but clearly you can die fairly easily so make it so it is a reduction much like a max can take a few hits or a heavy can take a few hits. Its not when your flying, but when the jets consume all their fuel and you go to land. Since it launches you up fast, that occurs a lot and a higher elevation so the chances of falling damage are much higher than the standard jets.
    My point is, the normal jump jets can do the job but will take much longer and much more effort so the whole point of the icarus should be more situation specific and in the situation I'm describing that is exactly when you want to use them. I should be able to scale the cliff in fairly short order and yes I can take some falling damage, but should have a reduction.
    The second issue I encountered was the icarus have almost no forward movement ability. You go up quick. Perhaps if your running at the time you launch yourself you'll get some forward momentum but remember your going to be running on the side of a mountain and really won't be moving, but that running is keeping you simply from falling. So there needs to be a small amount of forward momentum the jets add. So when I use them and press the W key (to move forward) I can make some forward movement so then I can go up that hill or mountain.
    The other situation I found these jets useful and really necessary was the cliff face such as on Indar when you have a Bridge Battle and you want to go down then then go up that cliff to flank. That is perfect for these jets and should be a function for them. Again your scaling something like that mountain and thus need a small amount of forward movement to counter the fact your forced to keep moving just not to fall on the side of the mountain or cliff facing, and the falling damage could well be an issue.
    So these jets need to be tweeked. Say the reduction for falling damage is 10 percent at level 1, 15 percent at level 2, and at 5 percent per level then at level 5 it would be 30% reduction in falling damage. I assume that means you'll still take damage, but could well protect you from those quick deaths that falling seem to provide. Perhaps a 20 or even 30% base reduction or like 10 percent per level, thus at level 5 you get 50% reduction. I don't know how the developers want this to interact with the safefall implant and i'm not suggesting that it have the same function or protection as that implant, but rather a reduction from the normal amount, and perhasp more than the normal jump jet since you need it more. I do not think this is unreasonable a request, but rather one to make it where they are useful and playable. I don't find them that great or useful and not really worth the investment as they are now. I bought to level 3 and for now that is what they shall stay at. Raising them simply allows me to gain higher elevation faster essentially but won't chane the factors i'm discussing.

      No, it is definitely the vertical momentum (in conjunction with how they strip your forward momentum,) but at that point in the video, we hadn't mentioned too much about how they're faster than other jump jet types. (We hit that around 3:15.) So "floaty nature" was there to make a point regarding overall feel.

    they are perfect for areas with lots of buildings, especially biolabs, and watch towers and mountain area that require quite a bit of scaling up. however, they arent made for moving from one base to another. if the fight is stationary, use this to go up and down all over the place. however, if they fight moves around, or is spread out over a large area, you would have better luck with the other 2 jets, depending on your altitude.

    When I heard about them I was hoping for something more akin to a rocket jump, a single tap sends you flying at an angle determined by your aim. It would need to weak, slow recharging, or have some other strange limitation to make them not the goto rocket pack.

    The Icarus jets are the best for the "assault" portion of the light assault. They're not much for utility, but when using the jets to assault a higher position, the faster travel could save your life.

    Icarus is handy... the STRAIGHT UP movement catches people off and is great for getting high places faster. and as in the video placing C4 then boosting out of blast radius is very effective.

    Been super busy lately so I haven't gotten around to trying out Icarus Jets yet. Finally have a small period of break so I was gonna play Planetside 2 today, guess I'm gonna be trying out the Icarus Jump Jets rather than playing infiltrator with the new EMPs. Hopefully your tips here will help me to not find them as frustrating as they seemed on PTS.

    I only use icarus jump jets on tower fights. The trade off being quick ascension for maneuverability and flanking ability.

    My favorite thing to do with them is find camping fighters bombarding a base and jet up to them with some C4 then. Kaboooomm! Only works on the noob low flying players and even then it rarely works, but still the satisfaction that you get when you C4 a moving fighter as a Light Assault is so worth it. Works best on Scythes cause they have a wider surface area and players tend to hover in them more than other fighters.
    Unfortunately its other uses are more limited compared to the Drifter or Normal Jump jets as the Light Assault class is not designed for long drawn out fire fights as much as the Medic, Engineer, and Heavy Assault are. Medics heal, Engineers give ammo and turrets, and Heavy Assaults do everything else (in other words the Light Assault lacks special tools/weapons that SPECIALIZE in massive firefights). They are mainly good in firefights because they have high mobility, the Icarus Jump Jets limit that most of the time. I find that the Icarus Jump Jets as well as the Light Assault Class just in general are more of a tactical choice than anything.

    It would be nice to see a video of CQC snipers or medium range snipers. By medium range, I mean ranges between 40m - 10m. Sometimes, a infiltrator might whip around a corner 15m probably about to spray me with his SMG and by the time I fire off a few rounds, Bang! Headshot X.x I'm dead, turns out he had a sniper.

    On the note of C-4, i can understand why, for balance reasons, you can't throw it then immediately detonate it. what i cannot understand is why there's a delay between you clicking the detonator and your character in game clicking theirs. i mean, what's the point in simulating reflex time when you've already got actual reflex time in there? the number of times i've died watching my arm flourish the detonator for half a second before actually pressing the button... oh well. rant over, was therapeutic :3

    I love these jets to death, they are everything I wanted in the Light Assault. The stock jets seemed to be there for a relaxing flight. The Icarus jump jet has let me reach all sorts of new places quicker and(believe it or not), has helped me get out of fire faster. I love these but would recommend them for intermediate players. My loadout includes...
    -SMG
    -Underboss
    -Advance Shield Capacitor
    -Frag
    -Med Kit
    -And Health Implant
    Dats all x3

    The Icarus Jump Jets feels a bit too situational. They are great in tower fights and also capable of peeking over cover to toss a grenade into the enemy crowd. In certain areas, the Icarus Jump Jets are useful for a great escape where the standard Jump Jets or Drifters wouldn't be able to achieve.
    Adding some kind of extra perk or ability to the Icarus Jump Jets should solve most of it's problems, similar to what the Drifters were given to make it more versatile.
    Maybe a little fun feature for the Icarus is how the user gains a burst of horizontal momentum if they sprint and jump. This uses up a bit of fuel. Once the user uses the jetpack while in the air, their horizontal momentum is cut but in exchange for the existing high vertical momentum. This can allow the user to maintain their mobility in terms of ground game but they would still need to be close to the ledges when climbing them. This doesn't destroy the purpose of Drifters since they allow hovering above the air and can slide. Jump Jets will still have their balanced vertical and horizontal speed for scaling buildings and ledges.

    I love the play-style of the Icarus jets. i always found the standard jets boring and overused. the Icarus jets make me think more like other classes with a moon jump. i don't fly much and when i do it's to scale a high wall. this for me is invaluable because of the speed that i can do it. enemies just don't expect it most of the time since standard jets are so common. I also find it useful when coming up to a balcony or catwalk, as you can hang out under it then pop up to toss a 'nade or barrel-stuff someone with a GD-7F

    I like them I feel 10x more mobile, kinda like in TitanFall. Where as I can jump form the ground kill someone and then be gone to the next building again. I definitely enjoy them and in my opinion feel like almost a assassin. Especially with a close range weapon.

    Its nice to have something to choose from but unfortunately they arent rly useful in my opinion. Think of them as an ability to jump rly high not fly. Maybe somebody will use it but im gonna use the old one.

    Due to drifter jump jets beeing extremely over powered right now, I wont use the icarus jump jets a whole lot. They are both fun to use, but the drifters allow you to do a whole lot of stuff you couldn`t do with either the standard or icarus jump jets, while still providing the vertical thrust necessary to get where ever you want to go.

    Boosting into the air lets you absolutely destroy people with shot guns, and blasting off when you see a grenade or c4 and just watching like 20 team mates die to it from 50 meters in the air is juust hilarious.

    icarus is almost soundless, that and the faster ascend towards low/medium rooftops. made it superior in 1v1 duells with autoshot against other lightassaults or closequater- boltaction scouts/infiltrator.
    the benefit of the normal/hover jumpjet to hover toward sundis is nullified with the spam of spitfireturrets, but they remain good on roof toward roof movements or on open field battlegrounds(compared toward icarus)

      There's a bug right now that's screwing with their audio. They're supposed to have a unique (and louder) audio signature, and more particle effects to go along with it.

    See what I do with my Icarus jump jets is I get on a roof as fast as possible with the faction specific sniping carbine (Razor GD-23, AC-X11, HC1, Pulsar C, etc) and start unloading on unsuspecting enemies. It's great for getting on antennas in some facilities and the top of towers.
    And with the new stupidly overpowered NS-44 Blackhand pistols, it'll be a Light Assault's dream come true.

      GunFuMaster Played with it, if you think it beats any primary besides scout rifles, it won't. Looks pretty though. It's just better than every sidearm, bar the commissioner as close range.

    Another way to explain the momentum conservation thing is that you're cheating the system.
    Because you're facing perpendicular to where you're going, the momentum loss is also applied in that perpendicular direction, leaving your actual "forward" momentum untouched.

      Also, basically the times when you want to be using Icarus is if you're spawning at the foot of a tall vertical structure that you intend on climbing. Towers, trees, large buildings, etc...

    Some of the horizontal movement techniques remind me of the sticky bomb launcher or rocket jump in TF2. Wrel, you've played a lot of Tribes. Do the movement influences you talked about feel similar or referential to other fps games?

      Ah, perhaps, but Tribes and even the rocket jumping of other games stand out as much different than the way PlanetSide 2 feels. Overall, PS2 feels a bit more clumsy, slow. New Drifter Jump Jets gave it a bit more punch, but it's still nowhere near Tribes material.

      Fair, and the feeling of the games are very different as well. I would imagine poeple would complain if drifters were as good as a tribes equivalent. What do you think would be an improvement to the Incarus jets be that wouldn't have it encroaching on the other jets?

      Chris Sebas In my opinion, it really needs more forward motion while holding the "W" key. It doesn't make sense to be able to jump jet up to the top of a structure, but not actually have enough forward motion to place you on top of it. Leads to a lot of unnecessary deaths due to even minor miscalculations.

      First Directive weapon review will be on the Darkstar, slated for Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Not much I'd want to change about 'that' weapon in particular, but there's certainly room for "creativity" with others.

      I think it would be cool to interview some of the best players in the game and get their opinion on the directive weapons as well. I wish the NC and TR LMG directive weapons had some kind of interesting mechanic like the VS LMG does.

      A Battle Hardened review is definitely on the list. Was holding off for a long time because Higby was contemplating reducing flinch, and before that, BH Tier 3 and 4 was actually broken. So I might wait it out a bit more to see if there are any changes to screen shake in the coming month/months. Really interested in giving it a thorough look though, for sure.

      Wrel Would you be re-reviewing melee combat sometime soon?
      I just thought of this because they've made some significant changes with wielding knives, combined with stalker cloak, and the (somewhat reduced) effectiveness of shot-knifing.
      And I think I recognize the slow swing of a powerable knife around 8:55.
      On another note, safe-fall is one of the most game-changing implants, in my opinion, being able to jump off the side of a tower without fall damage is a great way to lose pursuers who don't feel like leaping to their death.
