for something so insignificant, i found it ingenious that u positioned ur lightning and its cannon in such a way that u could use it as a walkway to that platform
That use of the lighting barrel at 9:16... just... damn. That's why I consider you to be the best PS2 player of all time. Small things like that, resourcefulness, it shows a lot more involvement than just "know how to click on people". Wrel, you are a badass.
Hey, thanks! I like sharing little bits like that that even veteran players may not have considered, even though the topic of the video may not be relevant to them.
I'd also recommend putting at least one rank into your ammo pack as well. I've been told that a higher-rank ammo pack will "override" a lower one if a friendly is standing within range of both. Every little bit helps!
Really? Thanks! Also I don't know if this still exists but if you push b while holding a turret you can switch to a ammo pack. Lots of people know this but I believe Wrel in one of his older videos said that it is a Level 3 ammo pack. Very helpful if you are correct.
Alex Gregory Oh really? That's the ability? I have been out for 7 months because my laptop broke. I'm on my tablet too. I was wondering what that ability was. I thought it was a AOE repair thing like the medic has.
Victor Wu I would have loved an aoe repair, but it would have been much less useful then the medics version, and technically sunderers can do that already with the right upgrade either way im happy the engi got an ability!
how to grind CERTS: 1.pick infiltrator class 2.use stalker cloaking 3.grab a flash and go capture bases with small amount of players or none 4.switch through cap points and confuse your enemy while gaining much needed certs by capture experience
My tip: Look out for a good Liberator pilot. The liberator is in my experience the most deadly and most usefull (depending on killing things) vehicle in the game. You kill so much and help your team out by spotting and killing sunderers easily. If you found a good pilot, ask him if you can play a little bit with him. Most players are friendly and help you out even if you make everything wrong. Steal with your eyes from your pilot. Look how he fly, when he goes away in a dangerous situation and basically everything you see. You are the eye in the air. So you learn much about the fights. How tanks drive when they beeing attacked, where most players deploy their sunderers and lots of more. If you play on the server "Miller" or just want to learn something new, write me a message. I love to help new players when I can :)
yeah... if the enemy does not care about u, u can really do alot of xp in a lib. but thats the same for tanks. aslong as u can farm without beeing attacked it is pretty easy to get certs. the problem ist that people know that they can do much xp by killing libs. so everything on the whole server is targeting u all the time :( xMElpx do u only play tr or do u have an nc/vs char aswell?
I do agree that informing newer players of the mechanic involved (last hitting and how it affects your XP gain) is important, but I think you've neglected the possibility that your message will come across as "look for ways to steal kills." This could lead to new players looking for ways to steal XP from friendlies, and possibly even getting good at it. This is detrimental as a whole, because not only is it a dick move, but the very player using this strategy is probably ignoring other, much more lucrative forms of gaining XP. You might have cleared this up simply by saying, "Obviously, don't go out of your way to steal kills, etc. etc.," or simply omitting the "tip" about stealing kills altogether. You could have informed new players of the mechanic involved while also not turning it into a tip about screwing over your own faction.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this kill board culture already exists, so why not exploit it to get the one ribbon? Personally, I'm not too bothered with weather or not I got the kill, although it is a nice buzz. If five people are focusing on one target all trying to get that kill (How is this any different than the present?), the target is eliminated no matter what. The person who does the most damage gets the most XP. Yay team! Kills mean nothing, and I tend to think most people will understand this, rather than all go on kill steal streaks because, "Wrel said it was a good idea." Just so you know I'm not digging at you. I had the same initial reaction, until he explained further and got me thinking.
davidangel64 Thats the br 20 stages youre talking about, that ends at around br 40 I admit to slaughtering 5 of my team mates all at once with a luminedge to get a high threat kill. I didnt get weapon locked since its based on hit count, it takes like 20 hits to a friendly to get locked, and i only did 5.
davidangel64 well that is EXACTLY what he was talking about. theres no other way to put it. you steal kills =you get certs. this wasn't a video tutorial about how to have good sportsmanship and be a friendly player, this is purely about grinding certs. And like he said, it's a team game, and a kill is a kill. So no, you are not "screwing over your faction" if all you do is teamkill and rage and get butthurt over "kill steals" then you are the one screwing over your faction
Possibly another strategy, is point conversion. As an infiltrator, you can find an enemy base with low population and capture its points repetitively, with each capture giving 600 base xp in a few seconds. An enemy player will likely come and take the points back, then you can keep recapping while staying out of the enemy's way. This gave me a whole bunch of xp ;)
You have an incredibly clear voice, perfect for narrating. It kept my attention through the video and made me want to try some of these tips out. You've earned a sub from me. Great job. :D
Same here. I got PS2 on Steam a few days ago, and have been mostly playing TR. The average newbie's lifespan is somewhat legendary for its brevity, so some of these tips were pretty clear from the outset - definently recommend starting as Engineer, because you always have something you can do to contribute. As a new player acclimating to the chaos of this game, what I like to do is find the 'yellow zone' - it's between the front lines where combat is really happening, but it's not quite the 'green zone' that your Empire holds and is more or less safe. I always know where it is, because it's usually where damaged tanks and the 'close-in' Sunderers are sitting around (usually getting shelled) - drop an ammo pack, and pull out the Nano-Armor Tool, and you'll be raking in XP in no time flat. The only challenge is remembering to keep an eye on the ammo pack you drop, because they go quickly! I suspect in this game, that each ammo pack has a set (but high) amount of ammo in each little box, but I A) don't know, and B) can't yet prove it. I'm slowly getting more knowledgeable about the base layouts (they seem pretty standard), and getting more knowledgeable about the dominant tactics in the game, which is where this guide really shines - it saves me days, if not frustrating weeks - of trial and error. Soon, I think I'll be able to be more aggressive and not have a lifespan measured in seconds most of the time. Great guide, it is much appreciated, especially from this noob! (Rosflugel - TR/LtCmdrKruhnch - VS/MyNameIsDende - NC)
I find it useful to play as an infiltrator. With the new activated knives and that cloak that recharges while you're still, you can easily guard against small attacks on cap points.
This is where I feel the need to introduce one of my infiltrator loadouts. You'll want to run with either a semi auto sniper rifle or a scout rifle of any flavour. You'll want a motion spotter (but the recon detect device will work, it just requires more time on your part). Finally, you'll want to equip a marker implant. Now, I call this loadout 'The Intelligence Officer' and it is primarily a support build for the infiltrator class. Your focus should be to put a motion spotter down near where the fight is happening, but out of the way of the enemies and any stray grenade bounces. Behind a wall is good, as are any room/building protected by a shield (except for spawn rooms). After that you get down to fighting people, if you get kills, great. If not and you get an assist, then you'll get recon XP, spot XP and assist XP which will generally be more than the kill itself is worth. Not only that, You'll be helping your team by supplying them with information on the enemy soldier's whereabouts. This loadout works best in big fights (the bigger the better), and you can tuck yourself in amongst your allies for additional support (heals/revives/resupplies etc) and to lower chances of ending up in a 1v1 situation where you may or may not come out on top.
I spent a long time in a reaver with only the mustang killing a sundy and its constantly respawning squad in the same spot you parked at 8:29. Phenomenal spot for a sundy. The two squads defending the base didn't even know it was there until I spotted it (SPOT EVERYTHING!!). :) I encourage everyone to play infiltrator for a while - you can grind certs in big battles with recon darts (10xp chimes going on nonstop for 5-10 minutes is music to my ears!), and the fragility of the infiltrator forces you to slow down and really pick how you fight in order to have the advantage. That aspect gave me much better insight in to battle flow and the dynamics of the game. Great vid, as always, and thanks - you are one of a few YT PS2 players who helped immensely when I first started out. The learning curve to PS2 was the steepest for any game I've played, but I find the game more rewarding as a result.
A couple of things for newer players (and maybe some experienced ones) A tip for engineers, whenever you are not gaining resupply exp DROP THAT DAMN AMMO. Advancing towards a base? Drop it behind a tree or rock because some ally may need ammo. Dropping ammo packs at random locations can save their lives and give you more exp. With all the engineers I see running around ammo packs can be really damn hard to find except where the main zerg is. As for a medic please dont touch it until you have rank 4 or 5 of the medic gun, it takes forever to res, you are exposed and the ally you res have less health so its just risky, time consuming and frustrating for both players. Wrel said always shoot at ESFs but I would disagree, only shoot at them if they are engaging nearby targets if they are far away you cant kill them and getting their attention may not be the smartest thing. VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE IN A SUNDERER, DO NOT SHOOT AT THEM WITH THE BASILISK BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT KILL THEM. And last but not least please do not run through friendly players, I see this way too much from pretty much everyone in the game and they do not realize how bad it can actually be. If a friendly is shooting at an enemy and getting shot at and you run through him so he will get the friendly fire warning and stops shooting, you have taken damage and then get killed by the enemy which also your ally because he stopped shooting. You will see this all the time and it can be frustrating for everyone so just remember that the bullet does not start at the end of the barrel but inside the weapon (obviously) so run behind people.
Alright, for those of you who need the medic tool explained in a different tone, here's something funny Walmart Kmart Target Kroger Meijer Costco Those are the levels of medic tool. Don't shop at anything less than Kroger.
As for the people running through other people thing, it's very true. I don't stop shooting if someone runs through me because of my extensive use of the MCG training me to NEVER sacrifice the spinup time just to spare the life of some insignificant LA deciding it was their time to shine... If I pop you three times in the back of the head it's your fault, if I run in front of you and you stop firing I assume it was an enemy and keep going. I've been messaged before by someone that was the victim of his own suicidal pathing, claiming I'd harmed him on some psychological level. I told him to please, run in front of a gun in real life while the guy firing it is fighting for his life, find out that you actually did. I'm a dick but I'm okay with it.
Now there are additional methods to grind certs as of Jan 2021: 1. Join an outfit and stay until the end of the capture while attacking/defending a base. This will give you a currency called Merit. 2. Go to sanctuary and talk to the middle person in the right-most 'shop'. 3. Buy nanite boosters for 750 merit each (get at least 2). 4. Play as long as you can on an alert while COMPLETING (don't turn them in) missions, one of them called 'mining for elysium' that drops 200 certs is a good pick. 5. Activate 2 nanite boosters anytime in the last 30mins of the alert (to do this go to character->boosts). 6. Make sure to turn in missions and have the alert in last 30mins while the booster is active 7. The nanite booster usually (if you have 2 active) just doubles nanite gain for 30mins, but for some reason it also doubles certs gained from missions and ending alerts This is a fantastic method as you do very little for quite a substantial reward.
Every time I see one of these videos, I just don't get it. If I attempted any of the things you do I would get gunned down instantly. Every enemy I get close to instantly flips around and locks onto me immediately and I am dead before I can even react. Nobody ever seems to even notice you or shoot at you though lol. But everyone I meet is a perfect shot and 99% of their shots are headshots even from a massive distance.
Colin Marner true but i can see why beginners struggled with it they should reallly give you a more sprayable weapon and one for longer distance the beginners weapons are not that easy
I can vouch for all of these tips. Been doing all of these since beta. My average day playing I will earn about 400-1200 certs and I do not have membership. This is over the course of 3-7 hours. I do everything he said. sundy, ammo pack, lots of killing, good spots, gunning, ribbons are big, and I target big-shot players for those bonuses. I drop mines where I can and I am versatile in my class and vehicle choices. Running boosters or being a member will increase this percent. being in a squad and defending or participating in alerts to the end help big time. It's not about the KDR (That's a useless stat), it's about being a smart player and only worrying about your score. That is the only stat that should matter. Score. That's how the leaderboards work on planetside2. Thank you Wrel.
Hey thanks for taking the time to put up all of these PS2 videos. I've been playing on and off since beta and things have changed so much in that game that I get completely lost when jumping back in. For all intents and purposes it makes me feel like a new player again, which is good and bad when I think of it.
Some tips: 1.) Unlock Tank mines for your engineer and optionally sticky grenades. Run below a deployed sundy that doesn't have shield up (and pray it doesn't have mineguard either), drop mines -> shoot (and die) or throw sticky and run. Bam. Easy certs. 2.) Buy silencers for your HA and LA weapons; for NC HA I would recommend going with GD-22s (only 100 certs), though Gauss Saw can work too; for TR both Carv and MSW-R (100 certs) are good; for VS Orion is fine. For LA's the defaults are more than sufficient. Now the important part: Work on finding sneaky and hidden spots on every base and use them to sneakily mow people down. Certs guaranteed. For inspiration: GylleBMF gives some tips about farming. Part 2 Jumping tips
I have a few tips. Use stalker for transporting sunders. A sunder rarely makes it away from enemies that start hurting you. You can change class once its safe and deploy it (most nonbase areas) to change back to your class. But deny the opponents your kill by leaping out, cloak and run a ways to confuse them where you are and crouch to redeploy. Anything with regeneration attached unless you fly then valkyrie/galaxy or ejection seat for other aircraft too. Strongly suggested VR room to learn to fly. Don't let air jocks pressure you into doing it live because they will just farm you.
Anyone with game time already knows this, but here's a word to the newer players. The medical applicator costs less than 200 certs to bring up to rank 5, but a full 500 certs to take it to max rank 6. Once you get it to rank 5, the medic becomes one of the best classes for grinding certs. As Wrel states, find a battle with 1-2 squads (12-24 players) on each side or a bit more (you don't want to get past about 3) and start working the most farmed choke point. Try to get revives off where you can and heal everyone. Use your F ability AOE heal for that. TRY NOT TO DIE. Death incurs a 100% drop in cert grinding efficiency. If you do, wait for another medic to pick you up instead of instantly respawning. If you do this right, you'll have enough dead allies to keep you too busy to worry about your certs (and you'll have a pile waiting for you when the dust settles) but not enough incoming fire that you cant revive effectively.
This a bit more of an advanced tip, but it's still simple enough that I think even newer players can make use of: Once you get used to driving sunderers, and have learned where and when to use/deploy them, start throwing some certs into them. My recommendation is to upgrade from your Basilisks to two Walkers or Rangers. (IMO the Walker is better but to each their own.) Also, look in the defense tab of your Sunderer and get at least two ranks of Ammo dispenser or Nanite PROXIMITY repair system, NOT Auto repair. Then, look for allied armor convoys whenever you can, and pull your sunderer and just join the pack. Not only will you rake in big time certs passively by simply being near allied armor and having your sunderer passively repair or resupply them with ammo, but you'll be invaluable as an anti-air machine (once you've unlocked your Walkers) because MOST armor columns are created with the purpose of dominating ground targets, and anti-air is often over-looked, so when that enemy Liberator tries to strafe you for an "easy" kill, just blast him with your anti-air guns. Chances are, if you have at least one other gunner to man your second Walker, you'll blow him out of the sky. Also, as a driver, if you have 2 gunners manning your Walkers, and they get the kill, you still get rewarded big time just for being at the wheel. Of course, only do this after you've gotten your medic tool to max rank, and are ready to move on to vehicles.
I totally agree with a lot of what you said. Especially about how new players should start as engineer, but cert up their medic. This is a key strategy for getting tons of certs to gear up a new character. I am glad you looked at ribbons, As far as I knew (despite playing since beta) you would just randomly get a ribbon for playing the game. Knowledge is power, and so knowing how to obtain ribbons is key in maximizing cert gain. Another important point, the membership is totally worth it, even if you only intend to play for a couple of months, that $30.00 in membership dues will nab you a 50% exp boost, as well as a hefty resource boost, AND a passive cert gain which means even if you just open up the game and log in for a day, you'll nab some free certs, even if you don't kill a single soul that session. I'm auraxium level membership, so I get 48 certs a day per character. This basically means I've bene able to (over the past 2 years) gear up a main toon and 5 alts while almost exclusively playing my main toon. If I want to play VS, NC, or TR I have options. A last point I'd like to make for scrubs like me is that it's better to buy guns and buy when they''re on sale. Membership gives you 500 sc to play with, and the daily sales means your guns will usually only cost around 324 or 225 SC (depending on the base price of the gun). You'll save your certs for better things and also your guns will be unlocked account wide, meaning your alts will also get them (or if your alts are different factions, only NS weapons are like this).
Hey Wrel, Great advice on cert gains. Things I want to stress as being very efficient cert gainers are Sunderers with Proximity Repair/ or Ammo Resupply when rolling with a large column of friendly armor. Along with being a fairly good infantry user - I was able to hit 97,000 score/hour - Given I had Member + Heroic boost + 2x EXP on today. If you're on foot and you're looking to make certs, your cert gain will pale in comparison to anyone who has a sunderer AND is on foot. That being said I hardly ever reach that range of score/hour. So yea, sunderers. Also I main Liberator flying with over 600+ hours into lib flying. The thing is a cert machine when used properly. Theres been days where I've seen 50-70k ranges of score per hours without 2x exp. Albeit you need a good gunner or two and the correct conditions (no - little AA with plenty of armor down below to kill). My optimal combo when we roll out with armor is - Repair/Ammo sunderer + Engineer When trying to cap bases - Deploy Sunderer/Repair/Ammo + Medic/Engineer/Heavy Assault/Light Assault. Good luck to everyone trying to farm those certs. :D - Arkis/Arca9 (Connery)
Here's a guide: 1. Become Russian 2. Get a Russian friend with membership bonuses 3. Go to empty continent (typically Esamir), pull skyguard and have your friend come in with constant aircrafts for you to kill 4. Profit 5. Ban 6. Forum rage 7. Hack
My suggestion to get certs at a low BR is to first and foremost join a platoon! As you keep playing more hours into the game you will find which public platoons work and which don't. Stick with your platoon and play as medic or engineer. This will mean that you are constantly close to people who can do the killing for you if you are not that good at killing people yet. At the same time, you can prop up your allies by healing them or resupplying their ammo, etc. If your allies capture a point, always go to the point and find a corner that isn't in the line of sight of doors, this way you can get point defense exp with a lower risk of getting killed by incoming grenades and Maxes.
Get in a Sunderer, get ahead of a zerg rush and be the most convenient spawn point. The Certs roll in faster than you can find things to spend them on.
I got 2 tips for you, if you are an infiltrator dont aways spot players they can hear you when your character yell TARGET SPOTTED!, also if a max is falling back its a good time to rush him he's doing it for a reason and the engineer will be defenceless.
Talking about engies for beginners, find and repair all the base turrets you can. Be careful though, you might become a sniper target if you're too exposed or standing still and up. You can wait for a fight to be over and then get the base back up :) I got so many ribbons just with that !
I just came back to the game after about a year hiatus. They have done a great deal to improve the game(especially the engine). But I needed a refresher and a couple of your videos were perfect. This included. Next up I will be looking at the implants because I have no idea how those work atm. Farming Certs has been pretty easy though due to the flow of kills and ribbons. Not much of a medic, but I love my sundy and then owning the sky in a ESF. Which I am a die hard TR so my mosquito.
Tank Mines as Engi! People always forget to use them. If you know were to place them its free certs for sure. Also if you find a hot spot were the enemies are constantly spawning/resurecting you can get extra grenades or C4 in infantry terminals or sunderers and spam grenades them on their spawn (you will consume your Nanites doing this).
I think that you could also get some lucrative experience by getting the various equipments that the Combat Medic gets as well. Revive grenades can get a huge amount of experience if you throw it in the middle of a ton of dead allies, and if you can deploy the shield restore somewhere close to the fight, you can also gain a little bit of experience from that too, so there's also those tools as well.
Another tip to add: If you're in a fight at a base where your team is losing and the enemy is spawn camping you, check your spawn room for a teleporter before you head to another base. Occasionally, enemies will focus on the spawn camp so hard that taking the teleporter puts you in a good spot to shoot them in the back.
On the last tip, snipers, find the biggest battles you can. If you can't headshot the enemies, at least body shot to make your teamate's lives easier as well as get the assist points. If you miss the head, chances are in a huge battle, someone else will. I play Connery as the user Pr1mus3(insert faction abbreviation VS TR NC).
That was a really awesome video, eventhough i don't really have problems, grinding certs. The afterthoughts (at 12:38) are also very important and picture exactly my stance of what the motivation should be to play a game. If you just play for the sake of unlocking stuff, which you might not even use very often, then I think you haven't understood the fascination of any good game. As far as I could recognize, I earned the most xp, when I'm in constant action (flow) and helping out other teammates. So boosting and similar stuff is imo total bullshit. Because I think the main reason for the urge of upgrading stuff is to be better in the game because of it. But as you said, skill is more important, and this you will just get by playing the game as it's meant to (or VR-Training of course).
Non premium account and got 300 certs in 4 hours, I got very lucky when I got behind the tr lines and grinder to no end. I keeps having to re spawn to reload. It was ammmazing, I got 8k score ever dam time!
Finally Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always wondered when a new one would come out. :) This is a very good and helpful video
If you are playing infiltrator, shoot recon darts and place those motion spotters. If you put motion spotter to place where enemies are coming from, you'll get so much experience points when they die.
I've found in my expereince playing (70 hours) running with a squad is the best way to get certs/exp. Aside from squad bonus, you can play support and keep with them, or get guard bonuses. Plus, it's always nice playing with friends.
If you spawn in a tower, especially one with a point in it, pull an infil and shoot darts around the room. this will give you a stream of detecion bonuses while helping out your side. After you have shot your darts just switch out to your prefered class.
Now THAT'S some fucking dedication & loyalty to your idols...

Step 0: it is double exp weekend and you already got 2x exp boost items from the outfit center(sanctuary?). Step 1: Unlock two walker aa guns on your sunderer and add the aoe ammo recharger part on it. Step 2: Buy a sunderer and use horn to say teammates that they are needed on two turrets. Step 2.5: be the fastest sunderer to reach destination so everyone spawns from your spawnpoint. Step 3: harrass the enemy harrassers so they run and try their chance with aircraft only to give you experience points which is converted to certs with 1/250 rate. Step 4: repeat until zerging is finished. Even just aoe ammo exp from sunderer is good enough and lets armor division fire constantly which unlocks possibility of continent capturing for a good cert reward after 2 hours. Tip: incline the sunderer on a piece of rock so the aa turrets can fire below horizon. Sometimes mining 400 500 cortium and just carrying an anti infantry tower in your inventory is useful to turn the tables in some roads filled with enemy scouts. That deployable anti infantry turret even destroys aircraft.
since dying resets the resupply xp cap it is best to drop ammo in a populated area and then rush in to the enemy zerg, and if you aren't planning on using resources on vehicles or other classes you can throw sticky nades or proxy mines to earn even more certs :D (i was doing this in bio lab the other night, sooo many certs and got over 300 kills with sticky nades XD)
very nice, few good tips even for Vets to remember. Would enjoy having a "Tips 2" video which goes over the things you mentioned, that this video isn't, in the last few seconds
Really good video wrel, definitely helpful to all new players out there. I completely agree with the always shoot at esf's point, and would also say harrasers should be in the same idea. Great points all around great video, i will show and recommend this to all new players
Thats what I will do for the whole weekend: Take my maxed out medic, join the biggest open platoon i can find. Hopefully they have a good balanced fight. Then get to the next big camping spot of your allies, drop the shield regeneration field and heal everything and everyone around you. Good spots are in Bio-Labs near the landing pad and near the teleporters. Also Amerish has some good farming spots aswell because of the underground bases. It will also help you to have as many revive grenades as possible for the heros who decide to run out alone or the small squads who decided to make a small push but failed. With a membership, a heroic boost and double XP event I make 100 Certz every 10 minutes, which is pretty awsome.
Thank you so much for the "shoot at ESFs" tip. My ESF doesn't have enough stuff shooting at it. Plus you forgot the most effective way to grind certs: Find a good tanker, gun for him when the server is at peak.
I like how you used the Lightning's gun as a bridge to a high place, that never occurred to me. But then I tend to try and keep my vehicles, they seem to be entirely more expendable to you.
7:15 This is absolutely true. I remember playing Infiltrator and just spotted tons upon tons of enemies and i got like 40certs in that one battle.AMAZING!!!
How i get certs fast: Go infil and stealth cap. For small bases I just go infil with stalker and hide on top of the point crouched, which makes me about 97% invisible. For larger bases I'll hide on top of generators and destabilize them, then when people come to re-stabilize them, I shoot them and kill them. Most people don't have darklight, and even the ones that do can be easily taken out with a bit of skill.
also, another way for people to grind certification points is to find a good camping spot in any of the biolabs. (in esamir, indar, and no others.) find were they are rushing out and set up a camping spot where they least expect it.
Cert gain is fairly quick nowadays, the 1000cert + price tags might seem daunting at first but it's not something you can't wrap up in a few hotspots or active days. My problem is that I just keep spending my certs on plenty of low end stuff.
Olle Fjällström Honestly a better idea than buying a new weapon. There aren't many weapons that are a must-get in this game. I mostly invest in upgrades to my existing weapons or vehicles.
Also, best way to get XP is by sundie. and by that I mean repair sundie, just locate some nearby armor column and stay next to them, you can even deploy and get both bonuses, just make sure that the armor pilots can see your sundie so they know that there is a repair spot there.
If your faction is known for their armor/air superiority in said server , I would recommend grabbing a Liberator with a partner to clear enemy armour and clusters of infantry.
Well, I used the suggestions and got about 150 certs in an hour. Nice! (br34) You forgot to mention motion spotters. While they require a little more certing to get, they can give you a TON of xp in large fights.
1.Play infiltrator with stalker cloack 2.Capture points or overcharge generators (Why not both?) 3.Hide in plain sight crouched or away from objective for maximum safety 4.Wait for objectives to be recaptured 5.Repeat 2-4
Heres a really good tip for some really good and sometimes quick certs, albeit this is hard to accomplish without dying without skill. After an alert, nearly ALL of the enemies should have 1000xp + after the alert. This means each and every enemy is a high threat/ extreme menace! Remember though, if you die on a locked continent, its game over for the afterparty. Have a good one!
Best maxed out income i got was sitting in a repair sundy tucked in behind regent rock tower. I was getting continuous XP ticks from:- (1) Passively repairing tanks next to me. (2) Infantry spawns. (3) Triage healing (simply sit as a medic in the sundy, you will heal all friendlies near the sundie, you also repair friendly max's passively). (4) Jumping from a cobalt to walker to kill C4 fairies and enemy air.
Nice one for new players, although a bullet point summary would really help. Great timing also, as I was just referring to your "pay to what?" video in a discussion on themittani.com about this game supposedly being grind to win.
What are those glowing things at 3:40? I haven't been playing for some time and now I see these things everytime I play but have no idea what they are.
Typically what I do, is I'll stay in a "safe room" as an engineer while we're assaulting a base, then there'll be players coming back every 2 minutes or so asking for ammo or repairs. Also, when I'm playing as an infiltrator, I'll use the stalker cloak to sneak into any enemy base we're assaulting, then I'll hack into every terminal I see. If I see a vehicle terminal and there's no enemy vehicles around, I'll quickly spawn a Sunderer, drive it outside the base, hide it, and deploy. Then I go get back into the fight.
well i guess i already do most of them :) i just disagree a bit on the sunderer thought, now with they new shield they are pain to take down ( solo) as before you could get a vehicule as engine shout at sundy ram it and toss 3 mine then shout again to explode. but anyway other tips would be we there is a big fight and your side as difficulty, respawn in another base to flank enemy or even better take a ESF as a heavy/ assault with c4 or engine with mine, ( and get parachut) then drop to destroy sundy or battle tank. does the recon dart count toward the spotter ribbon? ( it help to spam those too especially on tower fight)
Earned 750 certs today during a five hour play session. 84 of which was from one life in which I brought a repair sundy up onto a hill with a bunch of friendly armor and just ran around killing C4 fairies and repairing the vehicles. Oh ya then I auraxiumed the MCG which did help :D
I have been away for 2 weeks or so and today I played a bit again. However instead of my average 25000 per hour I git arround 71000 per hour? Have there been any xp buffs lately? I didn't have any bossters in and I only had arround 30%xp extra
Another recommendation I would have going off of the spotting idea, would be in large fights, use infiltrator with place-able motion trackers (this has given me a lot of xp) or get an ESF with infantry motion trackers, again use in big fights with preferably little anti air, hover over the area and get kills on top of getting spot bonuses.
***** It's not about being useful to you, it's about having fun! And I rack massive amount of kills, hack a lot of stuff, disable turrets and everything... They're really useful lol...
***** that is only new infiltrators, a skilled infiltrator is either a beast at sniping and can take down high-priority targets (mainly enemy medics), or knows how to be an extremely effective close-range assassin with either his pistol or smg, while messing with enemy passive systems, such as terminals and turrets, constantly keeping the enemy from having those advantages.
***** The infiltrator is a support class. =p The recon tools are almost always extremely useful in any fight, if more people actually bothered to use them to support their team. Knowing where the enemy will attack from is half the battle with the low TTK of the game.
Advocating focusing on killstealing is bad advice not just from a moral standpoint, because it takes focus away from what's really important to make your faction succeed, and that's worth the most. The best advice to get CP easily is to enjoy the game, because your enthusiasm will lead to high activity and success that trumps any of those attention focuses on specific strategies that distract you from fully immersing yourself. If you don't, then at some point you'll hopefully realize that your aim of maximizing your CP was the same - having an enjoyable experience - but that the strategy was not wise. P.S.: At 1:48 it says "Assists 911". Are you working in an emergency call center? ^^ P.P.S.: I had to stop playing now though, because not even through having fun could I enjoy the fruits of that, thanks to a reminder of what money-crazed sociopaths are dictating that business.

Dᴏᴡʟᴘʜɪɴ Again like he has said this is a focus on CERT FARMING not morality of objectives. Yes it sucks we all know it but certs are getting a bit harder to farm due to them constantly jacking with prices. Hell they even said they want to raise weapon prices.
rabidsquirrel73 As if stating that something is not about morality gives it any moral justification. You also discarded the whole point of it being more than just a moral question. The egoic mind's attempts to wiggle its way out of fear-based patterns of convenience.
+Dᴏᴡʟᴘʜɪɴ Hey guys, ladies, it's the idiot. He thinks a "moral standpoint" would matter in a war game. I've never heard anyone in the army complaining about kill stealing.
OrbitalNukeIncomin Richten And there we have the psycho who cannot distinguish real world and gaming. Never wondered why PS2 players aren't sitting in jail for murder? The idiot is more likely the one who doesn't recognize himself in the mirror.
+Dᴏᴡʟᴘʜɪɴ I very much know who I am myself in the mirror, ma'am. But I don't know about you, and I never knew a brony would throw such a pathetic attempt at an insult at me. I'm just saying, if you don't like that Planetside is a team-based game where it doesn't matter if you killsteal, then you may as well go play some of that COD garbage.
Silentwisher On the directive menu, you click on the directive you want shown. Then it`ll appear on the left side just like on the video. Hope i could help :)
You could have also mentioned if you ride in a Valk as an engineer repairing it and keeping it alive and you get XP for repairing and a share in their kills.
Go TR fully cert deploy find a big fight sit on the outskirts of main fighting look for openings in path infantry take hold down the trigger. Also don't buy high explosive rounds they reload slower if your doing this right you should get at least one kill for every time you fire both shots.
+Ney9 The "needle" is equipment that you can unlock, similar to grenades. So it doesn't cost you certs to use, but it instead uses the same resource as vehicles and other consumables, which are your "nanites" that refill over time.
+freeswag Yup you unlock the healing injection with certs but after that you get it everytime you spawn and it will only cost nanites wich is automatic so dont think about it :).
I got a tip for all starters, When you first spawn in try get a copper on every weapon availible, Then silver and finnaly gold, It'll get you more certs and directive points.
+Cerbanstudios I think it's more important to enjoy the guns you are using. It's definately not worth getting directives on weapons just for the certs. If you're decent at all running MBTs or being a medic will be a pretty surefire way for more certs.
Wrel I dropped ps2 along time ago. It seems like im only subscribed to you because like driftor. You get shit done. You are dedicated and serious it reminds me of what ill need to achieve greatness. ;)
My computer is crap so i can only fight in really small battles and only play for a bit before it becomes ridiculously slow, what are good ways of fight in very small fights?
for something so insignificant, i found it ingenious that u positioned ur lightning and its cannon in such a way that u could use it as a walkway to that platform
I thought it was clever aswell xD
Wrel is love, Wrel is life.
That's why I still watch beginner vid's. There's always a hidden gem or two that I haven't thought of myself. Thanks Wrel :).
Gabe M
ui its a gabe mewell in its hidden form
That was my favorite part of the video.
Lol
lol
How to grind certs.
Step one: Play medic.
Step two: You win.
amen
Amen
Amen
are you god ?
ALLAHU AKBAR
I'd also recommend putting at least one rank into your ammo pack as well. I've been told that a higher-rank ammo pack will "override" a lower one if a friendly is standing within range of both. Every little bit helps!
Really? Thanks! Also I don't know if this still exists but if you push b while holding a turret you can switch to a ammo pack. Lots of people know this but I believe Wrel in one of his older videos said that it is a Level 3 ammo pack. Very helpful if you are correct.
Victor Wu that was changed a while ago, the ammo pack is the engineers "F" ability
Alex Gregory Oh really? That's the ability? I have been out for 7 months because my laptop broke. I'm on my tablet too. I was wondering what that ability was. I thought it was a AOE repair thing like the medic has.
Victor Wu I would have loved an aoe repair, but it would have been much less useful then the medics version, and technically sunderers can do that already with the right upgrade
either way im happy the engi got an ability!
And maxing out your ammo pack will allow you to place two that cover a 6 metre diameter each. That's a lot of area a single engi can cover
I find the most effective use of ammo packs is dropping them when I start taking damage from an enemy so I can't sprint or use my weapon.
This happens so many times because I think I'm popping overshield or the AoE heal....
oh yeah
how to grind CERTS:
1.pick infiltrator class
2.use stalker cloaking
3.grab a flash and go capture bases with small amount of players or none
4.switch through cap points and confuse your enemy while gaining much needed certs by capture experience
My tip:
Look out for a good Liberator pilot.
What faction? i'd love to gun your lib :D
TheGamesforreal TR. Name is xTheFace. Send me a friend request.
But please for the love of god if you decide to hop in a lib be a engie so you can help out repairs.
GwKepa Jap. You can repair while you are been attacked. Just land and use the lib as cover, while you are repairing. This works against ESF´s!!
yeah... if the enemy does not care about u, u can really do alot of xp in a lib. but thats the same for tanks. aslong as u can farm without beeing attacked it is pretty easy to get certs. the problem ist that people know that they can do much xp by killing libs. so everything on the whole server is targeting u all the time :(
xMElpx do u only play tr or do u have an nc/vs char aswell?
Yay team!
Kills mean nothing, and I tend to think most people will understand this, rather than all go on kill steal streaks because, "Wrel said it was a good idea."
Just so you know I'm not digging at you. I had the same initial reaction, until he explained further and got me thinking.
davidangel64 Thats the br 20 stages youre talking about, that ends at around br 40
I admit to slaughtering 5 of my team mates all at once with a luminedge to get a high threat kill.
I didnt get weapon locked since its based on hit count, it takes like 20 hits to a friendly to get locked, and i only did 5.
davidangel64 It's a team game, you do not screw your own faction, you help it.
Teteh Exactly my point!
davidangel64 well that is EXACTLY what he was talking about. theres no other way to put it. you steal kills =you get certs. this wasn't a video tutorial about how to have good sportsmanship and be a friendly player, this is purely about grinding certs.
Great job. :D
Welcome aboard!
Man Hunter I literally watched the entire video while playing ps2
I encourage everyone to play infiltrator for a while - you can grind certs in big battles with recon darts (10xp chimes going on nonstop for 5-10 minutes is music to my ears!), and the fragility of the infiltrator forces you to slow down and really pick how you fight in order to have the advantage.
A couple of things for newer players (and maybe some experienced ones)
A tip for engineers, whenever you are not gaining resupply exp DROP THAT DAMN AMMO.
Alright, for those of you who need the medic tool explained in a different tone, here's something funny
Walmart
Kmart
Target
Kroger
Meijer
Costco
Those are the levels of medic tool. Don't shop at anything less than Kroger.
Medics are still viable without a lvl 4 medigun. I play with lvl 2, and I get about 5 certs per life.
Now there are additional methods to grind certs as of Jan 2021:
6. Make sure to turn in missions and have the alert in last 30mins while the booster is active
7. The nanite booster usually (if you have 2 active) just doubles nanite gain for 30mins, but for some reason it also doubles certs gained from missions and ending alerts
This is a fantastic method as you do very little for quite a substantial reward.
+Bell Idrael thats true but that is in connection with how good he moves and his internet
+Bell Idrael Situational awareness and just basic experience. I play too. It's hard but I'm learning.
Colin Marner yeah same here i am getting better and better and with the right weapon for the distance it is easier.
Smarackto LP Yeah it is. It is quite useful to learn your weapon's range. Firing outside of it only serves to give away your position.
Thanks for taking a moment to comment! Feeling like a "new player" is good; wish I could go back to that, honestly.
Thank you for posting this Wrel! You put together the most solid videos--you're advise in and out of game is always stellar.
Way to be on point!
priority: steal as many last hits as you can
ruthless guide xD
Beautifully concise. Watch, listen and enjoy Planetside.
Some tips:
1.) Unlock Tank mines for your engineer and optionally sticky grenades.
This a bit more of an advanced tip, but it's still simple enough that I think even newer players can make use of:
Once you get used to driving sunderers, and have learned where and when to use/deploy them, start throwing some certs into them.
Hey Wrel,
Great advice on cert gains.
My optimal combo when we roll out with armor is -
Repair/Ammo sunderer + Engineer
When trying to cap bases -
Deploy Sunderer/Repair/Ammo + Medic/Engineer/Heavy Assault/Light Assault.
Good luck to everyone trying to farm those certs. :D
- Arkis/Arca9 (Connery)
Here's a guide:
1. Become Russian
2. Get a Russian friend with membership bonuses
3. Go to empty continent (typically Esamir), pull skyguard and have your friend come in with constant aircrafts for you to kill
4. Profit
5. Ban
6. Forum rage
7. Hack
"Become Russian"
Best advice 2014.
But seriously Esamir is probably empty on Russian servers because they're too used to that environment.
thanks for making this, i'm an auraxium membership player and i still lack certs. this helps, keep it up.
Good stuff dude!
Hey, thanks!
sexy female VS infiltrators.
Congratz!
Finally Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always wondered when a new one would come out. :) This is a very good and helpful video
very nice video and a VERY clear voice, easy english. great !
I can't wait for the May update, having the NS weapons be available to all characters is gonna make them wonderful purchases :D
If you are playing infiltrator, shoot recon darts and place those motion spotters. If you put motion spotter to place where enemies are coming from, you'll get so much experience points when they die.
You're videos are fantastic man! Loads of good tips, keep it up.
I've found in my expereince playing (70 hours)
running with a squad is the best way to get certs/exp.
Today was the best day I grinded, all my platoon taking over 1 post and they just die and die and I was medic and ooooh all those sweet sweet points
Dude that thing where you climbed up the lightnings barrel was the best thing this entire episode. Ish
I'm not sure if this helped you, but I clicked on the advertisement and watched all of it just for you :) money $$
Allie Hanichak Hey, thanks. That definitely helps the channel; hopefully the video was helpful to you in some way, though!
Wrel It was. Your channel is amazing.
Quentin Beck lol
How i get certs fast:
Go infil and stealth cap.
Epic Engies I'm buying a darklight now
also, another way for people to grind certification points is to find a good camping spot in any of the biolabs.
I love you Wrel (for helping me initiate my pals into our beloved game)
Also, best way to get XP is by sundie. and by that I mean repair sundie, just locate some nearby armor column and stay next to them, you can even deploy and get both bonuses, just make sure that the armor pilots can see your sundie so they know that there is a repair spot there.
"How to grind certs" first thing you hear in the opening "I NEED A MEDIC!", nice bit of foreshadowing there Wrel :)
If your faction is known for their armor/air superiority in said server , I would recommend grabbing a Liberator with a partner to clear enemy armour and clusters of infantry.
Fantastic guide. I'll definitely be using some of these tips (especially the kill stealing thing).
Well, I used the suggestions and got about 150 certs in an hour. Nice! (br34)
You forgot to mention motion spotters. While they require a little more certing to get, they can give you a TON of xp in large fights.
1.Play infiltrator with stalker cloack
2.Capture points or overcharge generators (Why not both?)
3.Hide in plain sight crouched or away from objective for maximum safety
4.Wait for objectives to be recaptured
5.Repeat 2-4
Heres a really good tip for some really good and sometimes quick certs, albeit this is hard to accomplish without dying without skill. After an alert, nearly ALL of the enemies should have 1000xp + after the alert. This means each and every enemy is a high threat/ extreme menace! Remember though, if you die on a locked continent, its game over for the afterparty. Have a good one!
would you do an updated version of this video for ps4? i'm having some trouble getting certs even though i am putting a lot of hours in.
Best maxed out income i got was sitting in a repair sundy tucked in behind regent rock tower. I was getting continuous XP ticks from:-
(1) Passively repairing tanks next to me.
(2) Infantry spawns.
(3) Triage healing (simply sit as a medic in the sundy, you will heal all friendlies near the sundie, you also repair friendly max's passively).
(4) Jumping from a cobalt to walker to kill C4 fairies and enemy air.
So informative. Just like all of your other videos. Thanks.
That tank barrel trick is awesome :)
Now I know how I grind out certifications, but can you make a video for CQC?
Great post. This should help a lot of players .
Regeneration Fields; they are a deployable by medics that will give every1 inside the bubble a little shield regeneration while they arent taking dmg
That silenced beamer kill on that Mossie was pretty sweet.
Revive grenades combined with grendade bandolier is an amazing way to both help your allies and earn insane amounts of experiance.
Hey Wrel, you can check your available bonus ribbons easier on the tab screen. Also, I'd say the spotting ribbon is quite easy to get, as well.
wen ur taking about kill xp r u using the gauss saw w/ a compensator?
well i guess i already do most of them :)
i just disagree a bit on the sunderer thought, now with they new shield they are pain to take down ( solo) as before you could get a vehicule as engine shout at sundy ram it and toss 3 mine then shout again to explode.
but anyway other tips would be we there is a big fight and your side as difficulty, respawn in another base to flank enemy or even better take a ESF as a heavy/ assault with c4 or engine with mine, ( and get parachut) then drop to destroy sundy or battle tank.
does the recon dart count toward the spotter ribbon? ( it help to spam those too especially on tower fight)
Earned 750 certs today during a five hour play session.
84 of which was from one life in which I brought a repair sundy up onto a hill with a bunch of friendly armor and just ran around killing C4 fairies and repairing the vehicles.
Oh ya then I auraxiumed the MCG which did help :D
It's a good idea to use sensor darts if you are an infi :) a well shot dart will give loads of XP if the battle is intense :)
What Vanu weapons are you using in this video if you don't mind. Only one I can tell is lancer and pulsar c (from text)
I have been away for 2 weeks or so and today I played a bit again.
However instead of my average 25000 per hour I git arround 71000 per hour?
Have there been any xp buffs lately? I didn't have any bossters in and I only had arround 30%xp extra
Yes sir there is double xp this week
It's currently a double xp weekend for the two year anniversary of planetside 2. :)
double XP till sunday
Sweet! I have a boost in atm
Ooooh I allready found it rather weird that I could get 5certs for just capping a point
Any time you pull a vehicle, drop an ammo pack at the console. You can be on the opposite side of the continent and still get resupply bonuses.
Exactly so what if you are useless, atleast you are having fun, thats the whole point of playing a game.
The recon tools are almost always extremely useful in any fight, if more people actually bothered to use them to support their team.
P.P.S.: I had to stop playing now though, because not even through having fun could I enjoy the fruits of that, thanks to a reminder of what money-crazed sociopaths are dictating that business.
Dᴏᴡʟᴘʜɪɴ Again like he has said this is a focus on CERT FARMING not morality of objectives. Yes it sucks we all know it but certs are getting a bit harder to farm due to them constantly jacking with prices. Hell they even said they want to raise weapon prices.
rabidsquirrel73
As if stating that something is not about morality gives it any moral justification.
OrbitalNukeIncomin Richten
And there we have the psycho who cannot distinguish real world and gaming.
2:30 which weapon did u use?
How did you get those stats on your screen at 5:40? Or were those edited in?
These are from directives, you can display the ones you want to accomplish
Oh really? How do I go about that?
Silentwisher On the directive menu, you click on the directive you want shown. Then it`ll appear on the left side just like on the video. Hope i could help :)
Thank you :D
if your team has a lot of tanks sundy with ammo can give u some easy exp too and dont rly need to upgrade it a lot
Great job. This video was interesting even for experienced player as me.
Is that needle single use per life or do you have to pay 50 certs everytime before you use them?
+Ney9 The "needle" is equipment that you can unlock, similar to grenades. So it doesn't cost you certs to use, but it instead uses the same resource as vehicles and other consumables, which are your "nanites" that refill over time.
+Wrel oh, thanks for your help and that was fast men, instasubbed
You are dedicated and serious it reminds me of what ill need to achieve greatness. ;)
Keep working hard!
My computer is crap so i can only fight in really small battles and only play for a bit before it becomes ridiculously slow, what are good ways of fight in very small fights?
