I added a 5 star tune and depending on if Im commuting to pulling light or heavy trailers/boats it really helps with putting the power/torque in the right areas and my mpg went up about a 1/2-3/4 of mile up. I also added dual exhaust out the rear that is about 5% louder to help flow better. Sounds like stock and compared to my buddys 2021 F250 powerstroke I am about fender short to about 80mph. Very pleased with the 7.3 vs my Powerstrokes and Duramaxs.

That’s awesome! I haven’t heard many individuals comment on the 5 star tune. I was definitely contemplating doing it a bit down the road once I got bored. Sounds like it’s well worth it! I agree, totally, that the 7.3 holds its own with the diesels of the world. Obviously not the best choice if you’re constantly pulling heavy, but for recreational and occasional heavy loads it gives you the best of both worlds.

@@beardedautomedia2261 I tow the same 10-12k trailers and 15k boat with the 7.3 vs my diesels. I ended up with 6 tunes from 5 Star. 87 0ctane..Performance..light tow..heavy tow and same with 92 octane. I run the light tow which was told that is the perfect every day driver. When I tow I use the tow/haul mode and the tune acts somewhat like a weak exhaust brake which is one thing I miss with my diesels. I switch to heavy tow when I pull the boat. Bottom line the 7.3 does everything my diesels did at a slower pace without all the diesel, high price of def fluid, extra filters and expensive oil changes. I feel it's a better everyday driver and when we pull the camper and go off road the truck feels much lighter on its feet. As you mentioned, if I tow every day or most of the time diesel would be the better choice.

Honestly looking at one of these for my equipment rental side business. Wanting to stay out of CDL territory, so anything DRW is out of the question. A F350 with the 7.3 has about 4k more gooseneck capacity than the similarly equipped 6.7. While it has 3k less conventional, the trailers I'm running are 12-14k, which is well within the 7.3's limits. No CDL, no DEF, cheaper maintenance and repair costs, and a $10k up front savings...its really a no brainer. Down the road if I need more capacity, I'll get a CDL and a cab and chassis setup for heavier loads.

That’s the beauty of the 7.3 on the 3/4 and 1-ton chassis. You really get the best of both worlds. The only think you’re sacrificing is a little bit of effort on the part of the engine, but again, the 7.3 is built to operate with in very similar parameters!

@@beardedautomedia2261 Exactly. From everything I've seen the only negative is peak torque being higher up in the RPM range than a 6.7 would be, but I feel like that's a fair trade-off considering it was designed with that in mind. Also no exhaust brake, but my state is relatively flat so with good brakes and the help of the engine brake, I don't think that will be an issue.

I'm a 2017 F350 Lariat Power Stroke crew cab short bed FX4 with 3.55 owner. Let me re-assure you that there's no way a PS will get more than 14.5 MPG in mixed city-highway driving. Won't happen. The F250 Power Strokes weigh about the same, so that is a very minor factor at best. On highway only driving, I could probably hit 19 or 20 MPG if I use hyper-miling techniques and the trip is mostly flat. But any mountains at 16-17 is absolute tops for the diesel. So you'd pay about the same for fuel with diesel or gas, except my tank is only 28 gallons. At absolute maximum I can probably get 450 miles of range from full and just me driving, with a 5W hitch in the bed. As far as the elevation where most of my driving is done, I'm at 1700-1900' above sea level.

I think back when it was new I was getting 14 maybe and now 392k miles later I'm getting 11.6mpg that's with out pulling my work trailer, it is a work truck and most of those miles r pulling a 7k pound trailer and I get around 7mpg , thinking about getting a new work truck but just not sure I can get rid of this reliable tundra, only thing I've replaced is a right front wheel bearing and 2 o2 sensors, the rest is just general maintenance so fluids, tires, brakes. I wish someone would buy 1 of these f250s and just drive the heck out of it working it until they got around 300k making videos so I could see how it does long term . My F350 long bed 7.3 is quite the same on mpg. I have stretched it to 17.3 all day driving on flat windless roads with cruise set at 65. Around town I get 14.8 average. If I beat the snot out of it - because it’s a fun engine to beat the snot out of - it will run in the high 13’s if I do it a lot. Towing a 6,000 pound trailer drops it to 13 flat. It’s a damn good engine and solid built truck.

@@beardedautomedia2261 I had fun the other night. Dumb teenage girl in my neighborhood drove her PT Cruiser off the edge of her daddy’s driveway. She was stuck solid sitting on frame. Left front was down in the ditch and left tire would only spin as it was an inch off the ground. Right rear tire was also barely off the ground. It was basically teetering there. I backed up to her and hooked a chain around her rear axle and connected just around my 2” ball hitch. I showed her how to hold the steering wheel for the right angle coming up and out. I told her to put it - and keep it - in neutral. I put my truck in 4x4 and engaged lockers. My wife told me when chain was tight. I then let Godzilla lift her up and out of there LIKE IT WAS NOTHING AT ALL! Bottom line is that Super Duty frame didn’t even care about that little PT Cruiser and the 7.3 had INSTANT TORQUE AT LOW RPM. It grunted it up and out of there as easy as throwing a SACK of potatoes over your shoulder.

I had a '17 with the 6.2, obviously a lighter engine but I can't believe the 7.3, which I ordered to replace the old one which became a casualty of black ice, is that much heavier. My rig with heavy duty aftermarket Bodyguard A2 bumpers, wheel to wheel side steps, a SpaceKap work insert, Alurack ladder rack, loaded down with tools, a heap of clothes, headed to my wintering site & me, 185 lbs max fully clothed, full stomach, soaking wet, etc. I was rolling at about 9800 lbs. Your "8800" seems heavy for what you likely have in it. Maybe my tools & topper are only 1000-1200lbs. Either way I hope I get 14+ mpg, compared to the 10.5ish mpg I was getting. Though I was running 35" tires & thus was likely getting a little better gas mileage as the calibration was off. My phone GPS said I was going 2-3 MPH faster than the speedometer. I see 10 speed is coming to 2024 AT4 gas model in the HD line, and that truck has base price of $11,000 more than my 2022. No thank you. At least I got the heated / vented seat retro fit 370 days after purchase. Now just need heated steering wheel retro fit. PS. When I cancelled 2022 F250 order in January 2023 after waiting 14 months, the truck came in 2 weeks later. Dealer sold it that day.

I like the MPG video. I'm curious what the 6.7 with the 3:31s will get. Seen some crazy numbers up to 25-28mpg on the highway. All my vehicles get more then advertised in my area. My CTSV I had would get 25-27 on the highway. And was rated for 19 highway.

Like you said, I've seen some of the mid to high twenties from friends of mine as well as customers with the 6.7 and 3.31s. Definitely not the best of towing gears, but it gets the job done! I think I've only had one vehicle get worse MPG than advertised and that was the TRD Pro Tundra....loved the truck, but it loved gas stations.

Single rear wheel truck. I typically drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit depending on the flow of traffic. Through WV, I had a lot of people riding the fast lane, so I was about 5 mph under the speed limit from time to time. There were a few places where traffic was in excess of 20 mph over the speed limit (70 at its highest). I aim to get there quickly AND safely. 20 mph over the posted speed limit consistently allows for neither. Thanks for watching!

      @@beardedautomedia2261 I just did the 15000 mile gas to virtual diesel comparison. For Diesel - 16.5 mpg x 909 gallons x $4.40 gal = $4k , For gas - 15 mpg x 1000 gallons x $3.25 =. $3,250
So, even getting lesser mpg on 7.3, it will still save me $725 per year just on the fuel cost.

I’ve seen where a lot of the Godzillas are having rockers and cams delaminating around the 35k to 40k mile mark. Trucks under warranty are getting engine replacements. Been watching these trucks since they’ve came out and was waiting to pull the trigger on a new 2023. Now I’m back on the fence again.

I've been watching for a a while too and the numbers are quite low, very low. Just happens there a lot of people hyping this up and making it seem much worse. They prob had a bad batch of parts in some of them, it happens. Whatever it is, it's doesn't seem to be widespread. Toyota has had issues with their new engine and all manufacturers have had problems, specifically engine problems many being as bad or worse than this. Anyway, the data is available and it shows that Ford has had very few problems overall and the ones that occurred have been exclusively or almost exclusively in fleet/industrial applications not pickups. As a matter of fact that's an f450 box truck in the video you linked. The term delamination is not accurate either, that makes it sound like they're losing layers of material from the surface, which isn't what's happening. A much better term would be spalling. I watch Ford Boss too, but just because he's gotten a few, this doesn't represent the vast majority of vehicles out there, much too small a sample. I'm not saying there's not an issue, you're right to question it, but the percentage of problems is quite low and it's been overblown
