I just bought a 1917 Alex coppel (non saw back) I want to know more about it and it’s rarity. It’s got a serial mark (upside down mark 597) on its hand guard. Is that the serial number or unit number? The scabbard has a marking number (8) on the frog hook.
How would you recommend I identify my bayonet?? It's stamped Gebr. Weyersberg Solingen, and on the pommel there is stamped AS FA. But I can't find it on any list of old German bayonets.
Because it took less machine time to make. A metalic hilt can be press-stamped. The wooden grips will be made of two separate parts who need complex cutting and carving. It saved time an cost.
Great video , always had a good service from these guys.
