I couldn’t believe it at first but it was PERFECT 😂
I loved this episode so much I watched it twice last night. I had so many “squeal/gasp” moments, but when Aviendha lifted her veil and said “Perrin Aybara, do you like to dance?” I went crazy. And then at the end, Lanfear name dropping Moghedien, Graendal, “and the boys.” Just… so so good. Couldn’t wait for your recap video.
I didn't like this Aiel fight as well as Rand's Mom. Both are over the top. Don't get me wrong I love the Aiel but I personally would have liked fewer cartwheels and maybe four less white cloaks. But I'm hoping for more.

Yes, this feels like WoT. The way I describe my take on the conversion from book to tv is this: The world feels like WoT. The overarching plot is consistent with the books. The individual scenes are 50/50 or so from the books, with some hybrid scenes where things happen similarly but different. But here's what makes the show terrific imho...the characters 90+% of the time are acting in those new scenes as their book counterparts would if put in that situation. That's the heart of WoT to me. We're seeing our beloved characters sometimes put in different circumstances to get to the same end but they're internally consistent even when put in those different situations.
Avi laughing at Perrin (the best moment in the entire series imho) while he tried to step in front to protect her is a perfect example of ALL of these things happening. It's an overarching plot point that Perrin rescues an Aiel to earn trust with them, Perrin does as Perrin does, even to the point of using violence to do what is right. Avi, like all Aiel, is insanely capable. and furthermore as far dareis mai, sees humor in Perrin thinking she needs his protection.
Could someone complain "that didn't happen in the book" Yes. And I feel absolute sorrow for those people that they cannot find joy in life. Because that's a sad take on what is in my opinion a perfect adaptation moment. THAT is what adaptation to screen looks like. It tells us so much about the characters and still gives us all the beats that are enjoyable about the book.

I loved Avienda's intro,... the fireside scene with Perrin.
It's amazing how these WoT writers distill so much of these characters in such small scenes. They clearly know ALL these book characters back-to-front AND they spend serious time crafting how to express that in the short moments they have at their disposal. So far removed from other shows (Disney SW, Amazon Rings of Power) where the "writers" fill time with dead air, blank stares, or generic cliched lines. I think we all have "Toh" to the WoT writers.
The second i finished the episode, i just NEEDED your reaction. Love your insights and through your videos, i have started reading The Eye of The World for the first time!

I think the reason Verin mentioned Compulsion is to cover for her, because her oaths to the Dark One prohibit her from exposing other Dark Friends. She can point her fellow searchers to hints of the fact that the Black Ajah exists, but can't directly expose a a fellow member of it.
Lanfear is scary badass they nailed that ! Elayne realizing Nynaeve couldn't channel so she did what she could nice nuance, Verin being all Columbo enjoyable, Moraine's little sister being all older sister like, Rand rocked the black & white , Lanfear rocks the Dominatrix costume, the whole episode just appeared to be tighter more succinct and more fluid. I loved Perin's moxie standing unarmed surrounded and says he doesn't want to hurt them lol.

Loved your reaction! Honeypot 😂. This was my favourite episode surpassing episode 3 for top spot. Everything just worked for me. Perrin rescuing Aviendha and fighting off the Whitecloaks. Verin is awesome and scheming with the browns was so good! Lanfear is killing it she is so unhinged and her and Ishamael interactions were perfect. And namedropping the other Forsaken! Rand trying to process all these batshit crazy stuff happening 😂 eeee this is so exciting

You can tell they cast her for Lanfear, not Selene. No doubts whatsoever.
Glad you caught Elyas saying "two rivers folk are not your pack" ... pause... "neither was your wife". I have looked back and Rafe did NOT ever debunk that, in fact he later says fans are noticing things that are worth noticing. (He sort of skirts around it at first never said no)
Also back in S1 Ep 3 Perrin dreams and a wolf is chewing on his wifes corpse... why? Perrin did not know the wolves yet, and wolves hate darkfriends. (There are other hints also)
In an interview, Rafe implied that he never considered making Laila a darkfriend, and that it's the first he's heard of such a theory. That all he did was grow her up as if Perrin had married her. It's one of the very few things that annoyed me in/of S1. Everything points to it, but we have (somewhat) conflicting WOJ (Word of Judkins).
He does say "you're looking for the right things" about people digging frame-by-frame to call people darkfriend, but after lots of argument, most people concluded he meant that about watching for *other* people being darkfriends.
If Laila is a darkfriend, I will say Rafe is not entirely an Aes Sedai. He crossed the line of "technically the truth" when responding about her. If Laila is was not darkfriend, there were editing mistakes at the forge that nobody would come out and admit to.

In that dream we see flashes of Ba'alzamon. Ishamael sent that dream to Perrin, the meaning of the wolf chewing on Laila in the same place as her axe wound is "The wolf is you Perrin, you are an animal, you are a monster, that's why you killed her."
What is Elyas is saying to Perrin is basically "No humans are your pack, not even the one you loved the most, you should turn your back on them and just run with wolves like me." He is not calling Laila a dark friend.
@@michaelpecoraro486 Everything you say is true, but IFF Laila was a darkfriend, that line is perfect foreshadowing to that fact.
And see my other reply for why we thought Laila was a darkfriend in the first place.
At best, this will become a Han Shot First moment, but Laila was full-swinging an axe directly at Perrin in a room where the last trolloc was 10 seconds dead and was already out of the battle far longer. If he didn't *accidentally* gut her, she would have "accidentally" split him in half.
I once read an interview with writer who said, tongue in cheek, "If readers find deeper meaning in your story than you intended, let them. Never deny your brilliance."

I love your love for The Wheel of Time world and characters. It's a joy to behold.
I started reading the books in 1997, but gave up, eventually, midway through book 8. I couldn't make myself invest any more time and mental bandwidth in characters (as interesting as I found them to be) and a story that seemed to be shaping up to be never-ending.
Regarding the warder who grabbed Nynaeve and Elayne, his handling seemed appropriate to me. Considering they were both nervous, they likely wouldn't have trusted him and made a ruckus when he approached them, maybe even channeled, in fear, in a bid to defend themselves. That would have drawn a lot of attention and gotten them all captured. He needed to incapacitate them swiftly. Better two temporarily sore heads than two permanently enslaved women.
Totally agree! even though it's usually a pet peeve of mine - shows set in the real world, without magical healing, act like you can just hit someone in the head to knock them unconscious for a while and not do any permanent brain damage 🙄 But in this situation maybe even just embracing the source could get them caught, and a strange man approaching them while they're on the run... and he knew he'd be taking them to a Yellow.
That last sentence of yours - 🤏🏼😘 **Chef's kiss** It summed up the situation w/the Warder perfectly. Truly he did the smartest thing he could/should have done in that moment, or those girls were liable to get everybody enslaved.
I named my daughter Aviendha. She is 17 now. You should have seen her face the first time she heard them say Avi’s name. It was the first time she heard her name and it wasn’t in reference to her. Great episode!

I wholeheartedly agree it's the best episode so far! Multiple plot lines, pacing, dialogue, action, it had all the WOT feels! It will be a roller coaster ride to the finale! With soldiers approaching, I'm not sure it was the right time for the Warder to make a formal introduction. I believe we saw the Yellow, Ryma, in TGH, asking someone to not forget her name.

I have b3een critical of the show for it's own merits, especialy Season 1. S2 was a marked improvement, but this is the first episode where time flew by with good pacing and the stories were great. Best episode hands down. I need some matt though :)

My one complaint is the lack of Mat in the episode. He hasn't had much screen time this season. Though, in the books, his story doesn't really take off until after the horn and being fully healed. I'm hoping in the future seasons there will be more Mat.
That yellow sister, Ryma was captured by the Seanchan in the book (when Falme was initially captured)... and asked Egwene to remember her name.

Omigosh. This is ridiculous, but I was literally pacing this morning to see if you'd drop your reaction. I've read the books 4 times and I may be a little obsessed with the entire series, so this Amazon adaptation is making me feel like I am 5 and it's Christmas every week. I can barely wait for the episodes and then I compulsively want to see what others think. And now I'm freaking out that it's almost over and the WAIT TIME IS NOT OKAY. My poor boyfriend is patiently watching them with me while I'm practically flopping around at certain scenes and blurting out reactions at the TV. Aviendha! Dain! And I knew it was coming but Egwene's capture. Ugh... so much. Liandrin's more enriched character and motivations. Also, pronunciations are making me laugh at how off I was. I pronounce Moghedian with a long "o" like in smoke. Ah!! Thank you for these. Woohoo! Yes, new favorite episode. S2 E3 was my prior fav due to the rings. Thank you for this channel! My new favorite space to pop into when I get to the office and before my day comes avalanching down on me.
Haha this is exactly me in terms of excitement and a patient boyfriend watching it with me. I have to watch it by myself first because he asks questions and makes guesses which I can’t cope with unless I’ve already seen and digested the episode 😂

I whole heartily agree. This was a book lover's dream episode. I am already sad there are only 3 episodes remaining AND we will have to wait so long for season 3.
I think the warder was rough because he needed them knocked out quickly, and he was bonded to a Yellow so he knew they would be healed quickly and effectively.
I don't think Semirhage is ruled out, just yet (which I really hope so, because she's an awesome character). Lanfear and her don't get along, I feel she would exclude her from any conversation. Remember the idols in S1E5, there were 4 women and 4 men, and one looked very distinctly like Semirhage. Unless they're just going to retcon that scene. "The boys" probably refers to at least Asmodean and Sammael, as one doesn't do much on his own and the other has all the subtlety of a migraine.

@@dvp7 Except for Be'lal, we see almost nothing of what Mesaana does. We just know she's in the Tower recruiting and commanding darkfriends. She could be replaced with any black Aes Sedai and the story would remain the same.
Best ep so far. Not enough Mat is my only complaint of this season so far. I'm *hoping* the next 3 are heavily focused on Mat. Aviendha was amazing, she's perfect.
I 100% agree. This episode was *chefs kiss* the book readers got a sneak preview of what is coming, the show watchers got introduced to "toh" and other terms that might be foreign to them, and the awesome Aiel humor as well as the names of some Forsaken. Acting was top notch for Moraine and her sister. The tower Sedai have depth and they're intelligent (if not sneaky) and they're clothes are subdued in color but not power rangers anymore like in season 1
I kept saying "Take the axe!", too. I would not mind having a reproduction of that axe myself. Perrin did at least fight with a hammar. Progress from a stick.

This is an all time favorite episode so far! I really liked how they connected Perrin and Hopper both mourning their mates. Really gives them a great reason for having a strong bond from the get go.
Child Valda had the crook and sun emblem finally. Also liked the confirmation of that being a magnifying glass around Verin's neck, so like a Brown.
It is the small things that keep the darkness at bay simple acts of kindness and love is the best way to explain Perrin

I do not disagree with you. I felt exactly like you. For this reason-that it reflects the books’ themes and characters most accurately, including lore drops-this was my fav episode of either season. Amazing episode. And it ended WAY TOO SOON.

I did NOT expect Golden Retriever Barthanes. He seems like he just wants to restore his family's name and honour. I feel this does not bode well for his survival!

Absolutely agreed about the episode! My whole attitude when people complained about season 1 was "No wait, the source material has so much potential once the real crazy stuff kicks in, just wait for it!"... This is the friggin "I told you so" episode! On all fronts, VFX, fighting, politics, lore, and making the Forsaken actually threatening! To me it's like Game of Thrones, I mean fine the first season might have had really great dialogue but it was still a slow burn, and it doesn't get truly epic until the Blackwater episode at the end of season 2... and this is still mid-season so there's a good chance the upcoming stuff in Falme will ramp up everything even further!

This was absolutely the best episode of the entire series.
Fun fact for gamers: Fares Fares who plays Ishamael has a brother named Josef Fares who directed the games Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and It Takes Two. I’ve only played Brothers, and man, that is an awesome indie game. 👌

Best Episode so far of all, im with you, it has the most important book mentions so far, and finally FORSAKEN TALKS... just Mat is missing
Agreed ! This was like the best episode yet !!! It did feel like the book, and so many things happened ! Lanfear being a crzy psycho, seanchan damane stuff, the beginning of the chaotic duo that is Elayne and Nynaeve, and also them getting kidnapped all the time (still love them though), Perrin and Hopper ! OMG ! The scene withe Aviendha vs Whitecloaks, amazing !!! I'm rather indifferent to Aviendha in the books, but I love her in the show ! The actress nailed that role . And omg, her soundtrack, the music was amazing during the fight ! Me also think Laila was a darkfriend, more and more hints pointing to her being a darkfriend.....Maybe we'll get an answer this season. Each episode gets better and better, and what's with that mentionning the battle in the sky all the time, i really want to happen, but I don't know how can it be without looking silly ....But whatever happens the last episode of season 2 is probably gonna be mindblowing !
This episode was so brilliant! The only one this season I've rewatched multiple times at this point. So much lore and good stuff. The standout for me is Lanfear right now. I thought she was pretty scary already as Selene but omg what a switch. She's terrifying. And incredibly hot. Natasha is killing it on multiple levels. Her chemistry with Fares is also really good. That scene made them feel like their book counterparts perfectly. Also the Ishy creep moment was a great directing choice.
Standout performances also from newcomers Avi, Barthanes and Dain. If this is the kind of quality actors they get already it's going to be a great ride.

Firstly, this is my favourite episode so far. Absolutely loving this season. Secondly, before season 2 started, they said it was a mix of book 2 and 3, but I'm not seeing much of book 3. This is basically just The Great Hunt with tweeks.
We keep seeing road markers with OT writing on them. They have been on all of the roads leading to TV since S1E5.
When the collar got put on Egwene's neck there were tears in my eyes--please don't hurt her please!!! But I know it's gonna hurt a lot worse soon
😥Liandrin better get what's coming to her!!! I'm so mad at her lol but I also love her character and the actress who plays her--Verin is definitely onto her though!

I loved this episode as well! I did think it was weird that Turak (and the onlookers) weren't more suspicious that Ishamael didn't bow. The Seanchan are all about protocol, especially when it comes to interactions with the Blood, so him being so high in the society and not showing deference to the Blood felt weird to me. The rest of it, though, no complaints. I want to take Hopper home and give him all the pets.
What really worries me after this episode is that Moiraine has to stay awake for the rest of her life, which is not humanly possible. They have established that Lanfear can reach you as soon as you fall asleep and I shudder to think about what she's gonna do to her. She's probably not gonna kill Rand but she's DEFINITELY gonna kill Moiraine, and that in the most painfull way possible.

Definitely agree this episode felt like Wheel of Time. I just wish these seasons were 10 episodes. This season is hitting its stride but there's only 3 eps left, its just not enough time, and aren't we supposed to get through most of book 3 as well? Need more time!
My favorite episode. I can’t even tell you what scene was my favorite. It was all sooooo good! And I was so happy Padan Fain made another appearance. I LOVE/HATE him.
