- Here's my immediate reaction and breakdown of episode 5 of season 2 of amazon's wheel of time tv series.
This was such a brilliant episode and a great watch. I took notes and caught a lot of little details. Watch on to find out!

As a long time book reader, this is the level I've been waiting for. Best episode of the entire series so far.
I mean as a book reader, im obviously going to more critical of changes from the books but if it's done well, im perfectly fine with it and this episode did a hell of a job with both the straight book stuff and with the changed stuff.
Awesome!
That’s what I like to hear!
I’ve read the whole series at least half a dozen times and I love it. But I’m so excited for excellent new stuff as well!
I absolutely want to be surprised by this show. I want to experience new wheel of time again.
It worked for the expanse and this season is definitely working for me.
@nerdtheorists glad you mentioned the Expanse. That's a perfect example of when you make changes to the source material well.
Drummer is an amalgamation of like 3 different characters and ends up being one of the best on the show. You can only tip your hat to it and this episode was Drummer level imo
Yeah! Show Drummer is awesome and I get what you mean about this episode. They’re really finding their feet this season. It bodes well for the rest of it I think.
@nerdtheorists yeah you see I'm a bit of a book snob if you will lol.
I put other readers in 2 categories.
The ones that realise Ishmael is actually one of the main characters and the ones that don't.
So despite some of the stuff in s1 I didn't like, I absolutely respected that the writers grasped just how integral Ishy is to the story and the ridiculous level he influenced world as we know it in this age.
It's why no matter how many lows I have had with this show, I always had hope knowing that they get it.
I mean at the end of day, the entire first season was one big Ishy manipulation to get Rand to fully free him. I absolutely respected that.
Ishy is crucial. His influence is everywhere in the books. And the first season was much more then his just manipulating rand into freeing him. He was laying groundwork with everyone. Making sure pieces were moving before he was able to influence things more directly.
I agree! We need at least 10 to 12 episodes a season to do the story justice. Great review 👏
Thanks very much, appreciate it :-)
I think as we progress and have to follow more and more simultaneous plot threads, it’s going to become impossible without more episodes.
Give Perrin his due, he did pick up a hammer and take out some of the Whitecloaks as well.
Perrin danced well indeed. And I appreciated the hammer. But I’m itching to see him with his axe. Young bull needs to earn his name.
For me the best Episode so far, there are some small scenes i dont liked but overall there are many awesome scenes (Forsaken, Aviendha)
The more I think about it the more I think that scene at the end with Ishy and Lanfear was the best of the episode.
It gave so much away. There’s only three female Forsaken for starters!
Have to say i enjoyed this episode, yes we seem to have lost gaul but - still loved seeing aviendha. Best one so far for me
I don’t think we’ve lost Gaul. I just think he’s been delayed a bit. There’s no what Avi is going to Emond’s Field with Perrin. She’s got a date with Rhuidean that can’t be put off.
@@nerdtheorists you may be right, i will admit seeing avi put on her veil and ask perrin if he likes to dance was an emotional moment for some reason lol
Because it was just SO right. We’ve read about how incredible the Aiel are in battle. We got a snippet in season one but this was the real thing.
@@nerdtheorists its really strange seeing some book fans get excited at this stuff and enjoying S2 (including myself) and other book fans hating it. Its the opinions of non readers that will decide the shows success i guess.
The way I see it. Season 1 wasn't for the book fans because they had to build a world for non readers to understand.
Season 2 seems to be for everyone and I love it though you'll always have that group who're not willing to accept the changes and will kick of about everything.
You are spot on with Moiraine! I see so many state that "she's not this hard in the books" and they are WAY off! She states outright that she'll kill instead of letting the Dragon or the others turn to the DO.
She isn't a "nice" woman. She is driven, and has NO stops when it comes to anyone risking her mission.
(Don't get me wrong, I love her! But she isn't a nice and cuddly woman)
That exactly it. Moiraine is SO driven that she'll let nothing get in her way. She's given herself the very best tools for the job (Balefire, Angreal etc) and will sacrifice anything and any one (including herself) if she thinks the price is worth paying.
She typifies the Blue Ajah penchant for championing causes. It's just her cause is the most important one of all.
Perrin didn't see the dead Aiel in the cage in season one; That was Mat.
Yep! I've already been corrected on that one. I got over excited! :)
@@nerdtheorists Understandable, this season has been amazing.
Yeah! I'm really impressed so far. chalk and cheese compared to season 1.
Now all they need to do is stick the landing in these final three episodes...
Even GOT had 10 episodes for the first 6 seasons which were also the best
It’s a matter of fighting Amazon’s insistence that it’s premium series run 8-episode seasons.
We’ll get there. I hope!
The caged Aiel in the scenes with Thom Merrilin was with Rand and Mat, not with Perrin, was it?
Absolutely right! I’m getting so carried away in my excitement that I forgot myself. That caged aiel in season one wasn’t for Perrin, he wasn’t there and in an idiot. It was for us.
For book readers to get excited and to set this scene up in s2ep5 for everyone to enjoy.
You are mistaken moraine did not use that woman as a lamb for the slaughter. She instructed her to ride to tar valon without stopping, and the woman stopped anyway because the "horses need rest" moraine is not a baddie
Moiraine is neither bad nor good on the small scale.
She’s a woman on a mission for the Light that has to navigate the three oaths as best she can.
True she told the woman to not stop. But she knew that she would and that it was only a matter of time before Lanfear caught her.
Moiraine’s mission above all else is to see the Dragon Reborn to the last battle on the side of the Light and not the Shadow.
As someone who never read WoT but did read the Sword of Truth series, I'm amazed at how much Terry Goodkind was able to get away with blatantly ripping off Robert Jordan. The Seanchan obviously inspired Jagang's Empire, especially with how they enslaved magic users. The only real difference seems to be all the unnecessary cringey rapey stuff that TG put into all his books.
To be fair, Jordan had his own share of issues there, though likely less blatant.
What is it they say, though? Imitation is the greatest form of flattery...
Did Moraine and Rand flee on the horses? I thought that was all a ploy to throw Lanfear off. She sent the stable woman with the three horses toward Tar Valon while Moraine and Rand headed back to Cairihien on foot. That also makes killing that fourth horse even more brutal since she never intended to take any of the horses. Either way, it was a great scene.
They set off on the horses. Because you don’t want to take the chance that she sees you near the stables. But they soon got off and sent the poor woman on her way.
She killed that horse bcoz she wanted lanfear to notice that they escaped on horses
Lan?
The Master Swordsman who would have taken Lanfear’s head off and cut her into pieces so it would have taken much longer for the True Power to put her back together again?
That Lan?
Your viewing preferences are yours alone, but even in this day and age, your logic is about as sharp as the stare of a dwarf that has drunk themselves into a cross eyed stupor.
That entire Chase is objectively unnecessary, and ultimately the Show itself renders it moot. Forsaken don’t Chase people. They delegate that as an afterthought, because they have the Talent to be where they need to get to instantaneously.
The Episode had the potential to be great Television.
As exemplified by the introduction of Aviendha, it was unfortunately more Half a Loaf of Kung Fu than Once Upon A Time in China.
Seanchan moments were very well staged.
The dangling addition of Fain notwithstanding.
Emblematic of all the opportunities missed so far.
Amazon, please, please, please cancel this show after the already contracted Season 3, so someone with actual talent and respect for the Source Material takes up the gauntlet of Adaptation and so it can beget sharper analysis than fangirling like this.
Oh hush! Season 2 is superb so far, and the changes made are working well.
This is the ONLY televised version we're getting for a very long time. Stop yer whining or stop wasting your time watching it, then watching YT videos just so you can say how much you hate it. There's better ways to live your life.
I've neither the time nor inclination to argue with you so let's just agree to disagree.
@@nerdtheorists I’m not disagreeing with you.
As I said, your preference is what it is.
It’s your logic that is lacking.
By all means, be a blinkered fan.
Wear the criticism as readily as you bask in those that echo your opinions.
I don’t hate the show itself. Just the missed opportunity for genuinely good television. I watch videos and comment pointedly. I think I’ve made my point here and the contrast in sharpness is telling.
Don’t worry. I won’t waste my time looking for incisive discourse on this Channel again.
