Nice review! I bought this tent and used it twice already. Actually used it at Big Bend National Park in December 2022 with temps in the low 30's and it was great. Did well in the wind and it comfortably fit 2 grown adults and 2 small children. Loved how easy it was to setup, which took me around 15 minutes. The bag it stores is clever a makes the tent take up very little space. Granted we went in my Jeep Gladiator so space wasn't an issue, but the fact that it's small and lightweight is a plus. Let's me pack more stuff. Meanwhile, my brother brought along a massive Magellan Outdoors Lakewood Lodge Cabin Tent that took him almost 2 hours to put up. Bigger is not always better lol.
Glad to hear you had a great experience with it! I had another commenter basically say the opposite. I really like the tent. Used it with just me and my 7 year old son and we had SO much room! It got down to 25 degrees and I had a little butane heater. We had condensation issues but thats going to happen when using a heater. We were comfortable but had to dry out the rainfly when we got to camp. Thanks for a great comment! :-)
You know.... I had a completely different experience with this tent. Difficult to set up, an odd shape, low ceiling, polls that can only be replaced as a single expensive component.... The setup seemed overly complicated and took me at least 20 minutes every day with help from other experienced backpackers. I do agree, once you have it set up the covered front vestibule is s nice, but don't think the negatives were worth it. The rainfly was another odd shaped piece, that didn't line up the first and sometimes second time that you thought you had it right. I think I paid $400 for this tent on sale, and I would have taken it back if I had been able to. Thanks for the time putting this video together, though.
I don't entirely disagree with you. I think despite the color coding it is still difficult to set up. I've never done it with help though. I DEFINITELY agree with your assessment at a $400 price tag. We got it at about $230 WITH footprint so I'm a little more forgiving!
Robert, I had the same experience. I purchased this tent and took it into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. I am experienced with tents and it took me forever to set up. I couldn’t believe there were no instructions or at least a picture. I honestly don’t know if I even set it up correctly. If I could, I would send it back and buy something else.
You are welcome!! And thank you very much for noticing and taking a moment to let us know! We try to be thorough in our reviews here at DMS Adventures!!
Still trying to find the perfect tent for us. The closest it gets is still the Trekker 3 I think.... Which is crazy because its by far the cheapest 4 person tent we have. If they would just tweek a few things with the design it could be near perfect.
I actually relayed it to an expanding company that doesn't make Tents yet but does make products in dyneema. (Super lightweight tent material) and told them if they wanted to get in the market they should use that design as a. Baseline.
Even though i bought this a while ago they remained on sale for quite a long time. The UL4 is pretty awesome too! I LOVE the vestibules and porch mode!! It is pricey but it's a great piece of gear! Hope it works out for ya!!
Very nice looking tent and 6 lbs seems pretty reasonable. I have a nice hand me down tent so I didn’t think I was in the market for a new big tent but I am now very tempted. Happy new year.
Thanks Bill! I just used the tent in the field this week and it has alot to like... and some things not to like. Just like everything else. I'm still thinking the trekker 3 is my go to!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I just bought the tent and am excited for its first use. My question is how important is the footprint for the tent because I just bought the tent without the footprint. Should I wait until I get the footprint before using it the first time? Also with this tent be possible to set up on hard flat surface without drilling holes or steaks into the ground is there a way to use weights if so how much would you recommend where would you recommend the weights we put?
I think it would be tough to set it up with weights. Anything is possible of course but I'm not sure how to go about that. It's primarily the front and back vestibule that needs to be tensioned or it falls forward or backward. The footprint is only really necessary if you A) want the extra protection or B) want to set it up with just the fly and not use the tent. This is sometimes called "Fast Pitch". Hope you enjoy having this tent! I still love ours!
I just watched your 13th EBE…and this is your 6th tent ? 🤣 Not a cheap hobby when you approach it like that ! 🤣 youll have to have a big meetup and giveaway (like that other guy) if you keep piling up the gear. Great video demonstration! Happy New Year! 👍
To be fair they aren't 6 backpacking Tents.... only 4 of them are! 😀 I don't think i could just give them away! I'd have to try to sell them, recoup a little $$ so i can try something new. Thanks for watching Michael! 🤜 🤛 Happy new year to you. Tell miss Joanna that kieryn says hi! 👋
Hi just discovered your channel! I’m looking for a beginner tent for me and my two kids, y got a better option than this for the 500$? Best regards from Sweden!
Hello there!! Wow from Sweden!! That's awesome! You may be our first one from there! Here is a video we did about family backpacking Tents! You should be able to find an option in there to take a closer look at! ua-cam.com/video/0xpXhqm6rMg/v-deo.html Good luck getting you and your kiddos out there! I think that's awesome!
Haha i dont have to imagine! Thats basically what happened. With a 4 person tent though one would normally have some help! I just didnt happen to have any for this video!

I think this is what can happen when you try and do a unique design. Sometimes it just doesn't function in the field!
@@DMSAdventures very true. It’s a really nice tent once you get it figured out. Thank you for the video. It helped me for next time.
You're welcome! I love seeing productive conversations in our comments!! 😀
That was the best tent review I have seen so far, and I have seen many. Thank you!

W❤️W! That’s Awesome! Happy Weekend! 🤗❤️✨
Thank you! Its a pretty fantastic tent for the sale price! You too!!
I did backpacking with the tent. It is plenty space and keep my family warm!
That's awesome!! So glad it's worked for you too!
Ooh, I like that one! You sure have a collection of tents! They all have their good points!

@@DMSAdventures maybe you should relay that to them with your suggestions, may work?? 😉

Great review! If I hadn’t spent the big money on the CS HVUL4 I would definitely check this out. Thanks for sharing.

@@DMSAdventures well let me help you rid yourself of that new tent. Lol
Great video once again.
Any chance you’re going to be doing a hot tent review?
Ozark Trail’s 12x10…hint hint…nudge nudge 😊😊
Haha i mention in next week's video that although i love the idea of a hot tent the weight and the work are enough to keep me from giving it a try!!

Great deal, and you know Klymit still made money at the sale price.
Ya they had to of. $500 + for a standard fabric tent is insane. If the whole thing was made out of dyneema and 2 lbs lighter... maybe!
Is it only 1200mm waterproof? Why such a low rating.?
I'm not sure, you'd have to ask klymit. I haven't been able to fully test it in a really bad rain yet. Just drizzles.
