It seems as though he made an conscious effort to dissociate himself from his father as much as possible. Rick on the otherhand had a much better relationship with Daddy and became the heir of the family's restaurant business. Skip and Rick are very different. It is stunning how Skip has no interest in the culinary business, while Rick has no interest in sports. It shows that they must not have been close as brothers. Usually, younger siblings, especially those of the same gender take significant interest and are influenced by what their older siblings are interested in. Especially if the age gap is not too large, let's say 5 years or less. Skip is only two years older than Rick. It is probable that Skip, being the eldest child, took the brunt of his father's abuse or discipline, while Daddy was much kinder to Rick. Even though it is does not necessarily delve into being abusive, it is common for the eldest child, especially the eldest male child or the only male child, to be subjected to greater discipline by fathers and even mothers than younger siblings are.

I cannot believe that I’ve been familiar with and even been a fan of both Rick and Skip Bayless for YEARS and it wasn’t until a couple weeks ago that I realized they were brothers. I suspected it years ago watching PBS. Saw Rick's show and thought his last name is Bayless, and noticed how similar they looked. Only a few years ago did I learn for certain they were in fact brothers.

What I gathered from this is Skip had no real talent at sports (averaged 1.4 points per game in HS) so he made a career off of obsessing and bashing over successful athletes in order to fill some sort of void
