I ALMOST GOT SCAMED BY THE SAME GUY!!! The description you gave was the same exact thing he told me and apparently was about his son's silver r8, except it was craigslist. Was looking for a light damage project and a silver r8 with side damage popped up for $28,000. He gave me a similar story like he did to you and also said he was out of the country. He tried to get me to send him money some account in Dubai for $25,000 and did what ever he could to provide me with as little info on the car as possible. Later on after we bounced back and forth for a while on calls he got pissed and blocked me. Didn't think much of it until now, wow small world!
This is exactly why I subscribed to this channel and other channels similar to this, not that I didn’t know some of this stuff any way Bc I do and have learned the hard way, but the fact you take the time to share with others, it’s very helpful, and I also just really enjoy you’re channel and the content, thanks
Lmao, your old lady in the background casual af, like u vlog every minute of every day, this was a great vid, thank you for all the transparency! THIS WAS A PUBLIC SERVICE, you sir are a public hero!
Important safety tip for sure. I love how she’s just shopping away in the background while you’re recording. I’m totally doing that next time my wife and I go shopping. Thanks.
Good thing you brought this up.. This happened to me when buying truck on craigslist and other car web sites. Usually they say they are deployed or something and can get you the car but never have any info you need, and can never meet you. Even happened to my friend when he was trying to rent an apartment, they could not meet you there but had all the info, but really this was just a house for sale they stole all the pictures for.. Crazy people..
You did well to avoid this scam Chris, one of the things you mentioned a few times was one of his tricks that I've seen lots of times from people selling stuff or tradesman trying to get you to sign them up for work. That whole "I've got other people interested" deal, where they make you feel as if you have to act quick or miss out on a bargain to make you rush into it. Easy to fall for that one when you think the deal is a one off. Agree with you, never pay money/deposit for a car you haven't seen and seen paperwork for and checked it's history.
Really enjoyed the unique camera angles and narrative style on this video. Your production value keeps going up on the content you're producing. Also, good on ya for having a sober driver!
I bought my M3 4dr 5sp on the internet, Ebay I was the high bidder but didnt reach reserve. Called the guy said I would fly to Vegas next day with the amount of my high bid. He met me at the airport with title in hand.
As soon as I heard wire transfer I was like "oooh not this again". Years ago when I was younger and more naive I almost fell for one of these stupid scams. It was a craigslist scam and a common one too but I had no idea. Thankfully I was talked out of it by some people who were more knowledgeable than me about those common scams.
Good tips! I've bought and sold lots of cars online and it's always the same kind of deal: a deposit via paypal and then close the deal in person. If the person selling doesn't want to do that then it's always best to walk.
Never send money through paypal via FRIENDS and Family unless it is for that reason only! If they don't want to pay the small fee when you send through goods and services then just cut the deal.
As a guy with experience in buying cars from all over craigslist and ebay, I would have backed out as soon as he said that he wasn't physically with the vehicle. It's always a red flag. I'm huge on wanting to see the car first, in person, and handing over a fistfull of cash. Sounds crazy, but I like to see the car; check the VIN, check for damages, and hold the title in hand... Good for you for spotting it. :)
I got scammed last December selling off my car. But it was entirely my fault, I was naive. Lesson learned. Thanks for this great video. More like this are needed.
Sounds like every Craigslist scammer. I'm a pilot or flight attendant and out of state/country so wire the money or Google wallet and I will have the car delivered. People are to quick to get that once in a life time deal and hand over money before thinking about it cuz its so good if you don't buy it now someone else will..lol.. Not this guy. The best deals are had on cars not for sale and making them and offer that's how I got my ae86 gts 1 owner for 1600 with week old tires on it and most my vehicles I buy that way
Hachi-Roku Performance Group there’s also the :” I’m selling the car on behalf of my sick mother , and we love out of state. As soon as you wire the money through PayPal , I will ship the car out to your location.” And some other shit about eBay 😏 I wonder if that half assed scam works
Really happy to hear you researched wire transfers before doing it.. like you said consider it pretty much gone if you send a wire transfer. Be careful online everyone!
This channel is truly becoming one of my favorites. I already love this channel way more than TJ hunts and traverish. The stuff you’re doing with that Z putting in a M5 engine is legit the best build, Simply cause of how custom it is! Love the content keep it up!!!
Thanks for the information. The internet is a good way to look for a car but as you said, if you can't see it and the information doesn't match up, walk away.
Bought my first car last month. I went through 3 deals eventually. The first was a scam, The second was a word-of-the-mouth jewel you were speaking about (but it was sold that same morning i told the seller i want to buy it), and the third was the car i eventually bought. The first one sounded awfully similar to your story, But i was not willing to give them any deposit or money. I eventually ended up spending more money on researching the buyer and the car (some of the records are paid records). The details the buyer gave me only partially added up to what the records i had said. I could smell the dodgey'ness on the deal... Even though it was 1 214KM away. Third deal i flew down to talk in person and we ended up taking it. Cant be happier with my 2013 Fiesta ST :)
Casher's checks have known to be faked. Best to check out the car and the person, then go to the bank and get the money out. Always take at least one other person with you. Never say that you are going to turn up with the cash.
Yes I get that a Cashiers check could possibly be faked but you could always call the bank and verify it as well. Much safer than bringing a stack of 25k in $100 bills..
When I buy things online and pay with paypal, I use the regular purchase method and add the amount you pay in the fee. Theres fee calculators for paypal online, and as friends/family you pay the fee anyway. So you keep the protection.
Where do you report something like this?? I was also almost scammed by someone who was selling a crashed corvette because they were being “deployed” and didn’t have enough time to fix it
if theyre just running a standard scam its hard to report to anyone other than the hosting site, once they bring death threats into the mix, its time to call the FBI
You can also call your State's Attorney General's office...they might not be able to give you any help directly but they can always point you in the direction for where can get consumer fraud help.
Good guy Chris helping people out. Recently purchased a 540i on eBay and *feel* like I got scammed: needs a ton of work, interior is nasty despite being "flawless", seller wasn't the guy on the title (but I did get a title) and said it was a no-hit car despite there being an obvious paint transfer on the back. Do a thorough PPI people and be very wary of your money, nobody else will take care of it like you will. There are shitheads out there that will do everything they can to take advantage of you, be smart and don't let them. I learned that lesson the hard way.
PayPal tips as a buyer: -pay as a gift or sale every time (add 3% if they want you to cover fees) -if paid friends and family only do so with your credit/debit card or bank account because your last lifeline is a charge back in the most desperate cases PayPal tips as a seller: -ONLY accept payment gifts and sales for seller protection -document everything (conversations, documents, shipping tracking numbers, etc)
Send an independent vehicle inspector to look at the car. Have him verify title and registration and the general situation of the sale. Send the deposit and include a little extra for a overnight return to you. Seller signs off on title and sends you title and a bill of sale. Wire the funds, at that point the seller will release the car for shipping. I've done it this way on both ends of ebay transactions before. Not sure how Ebays' "Buyer protection" plan works but they claim it does.
Or less than optimal tax planning.. Chris, I'm guessing BIFB is an LLC. If so, elect to be taxed as an S-corp and you'll pay much less self employment tax.
I had a similar thing happen about a house rental. The person posted a Craigslist ad for a house to rent, while they were out of the country. Sent me pics of the house. They gave me the address, to go check it out. They said the house was empty, since they moved their stuff to storage. Went to go see the house, not only was there a 'for sale' sign out front, the house was occupied. I knocked on the door, and talked to the residents. They said I was the 3rd person to inquire about the Craigslist ad, that they never posted. Fortunately, their next door neighbor was a police officer. He took my name and number, and found the Craigslist ad on his smartphone. I never heard what came of the whole thing, but I'm glad I checked the house out before I wired any money, internationally.
i mentioned that in the last video.. thats not a scam.. if i woulda given 2 shits before i bid i woulda looked at the car in person or had it inspected and known what i was bidding on.. not a scam, just me rollin the dice
I don't want to take away from the message of the video but I really liked the random filming locations like from inside of a fridge or pulling the shower curtain
Lmao, Being that I go to ikea up in portland for work related resasons almost weekly. I find these shots in ikea hysterical. Glad I stumbled on this video
Loving your videos dude, you are always entertaining even with a serious topic. The shots in the shop are funny too, I was comparing little old New Zealand to that store.
I would have been extremely suspicious. When he said he was a pilot from the middle east. It was a clear sign he was a scammer, when he said he was out of the country. For 3 days and that he would send it out on a trailer. In utah there is a local classifieds is called ksl. On ksl if you post a car for sale. You get a lot of scams, the biggest sign. Is when the person says " I will be out of the country for 3 days" "I can have the car sent out by shipping if you sent me money".
I've bought and occasionally sold everything from motorcycles, parts, and electronics from eBay since 2001. My feedback is a couple of hundred and 100%. Never one issue.
The other scam: If you're selling items on Ebay, there are now people that will "buy" your stuff, then use it for a weekend, then return it saying "item not as described." I had this happen to me 2x, both scammers, and regardless of how many hours you spend with customer service and how much evidence you have that the item was in a certain condition, they force you to accept your even more used item back. Typically what they do is try to find some flaw, then ask you to send them a partial refund, and if you refuse, then they execute the return process in full. I had one that actually photoshopped a shutter count on a camera that I sold, got it back, and it turns out they used it for a weekend shooting over 3000 photos, then returned it back. EBAY has turned into a 1st class scammer central because of the indifference in enforcement of the rules. It's simply not worth it anymore. Had a PERFECT seller history for nearly 20 years with no issues until this past fall when I then ran into these scam buyers/game players. That along with the exorbitant fee's/paypal fee's I'm back to using CL and oddly enough, have ran into a lot more honest individuals there as of late
Great advice and story! The best part of the video, however, is Chelsea dispassionately lounging in the background of your shots. I can't stop chuckling at that.
I havent delt with copart or iaai in many years so i dont know the new rules. But years ago! I did buy many cars! ALWAYS stay away from non insurance sales, buying from shady dealer more likely a lot more damage then what the car looks like. Never buy cars from huge metro city (especialy miami, losang, new york) you will get screwed. Next tip stay away from suspicious little damaged cars, that have hammered out fenders. These cars most likely have severe frame damage and they will carefully hammer out the dented fender straight and just slap the fenders on to cover the hard bent frame damage. Also another tip airbags, many shadi guys on copart will cut out airbags and hide them, for driver airbags they will put a new cover or plastic epoxy the blown one and spray paint over it to conceal the bags are good. If you can always inspect the cars yourself.
Imagine seeing some random guy speaking to a fridge in Ikea
its weird being a youtuber some times :p
Best comment.
lmfao
Definitely not the weirdest thing I've seen in an IKEA
Yo dawg... That's *Cold* ! :D

Someone needs to get to get the FBI involved to catch this scammer.
Ehh, since he's getting the money transferred to Dubai he's probably not in the country.
Jeeez, that ebay ad..If someone can't spend the extra few minutes to do a spellcheck n keep it professional I won't even bother.
freind of mine got hit with this scam too, i showed him the video, he said the exact same thing
Scammers are insufferable, they are just terrible!
Those camera shots in Ikea killed me haha
Bro, no wonder my scams aren't working!! Thanks for the tips!
The Inja lol
LOL
Tooo Funny !!!!
The Inja lol
Thanks for telling us what signs to look for?? Scammers already know the tricks dumby
No Ikea furniture was harmed during the making of this video
B is for being scammed
B is for Bamboozled
in this case not being scammed :)
I love the way u made this video. The fridge was the best part lol
I thought the shower to toilet transition was pretty good
This is exactly why I subscribed to this channel and other channels similar to this, not that I didn’t know some of this stuff any way Bc I do and have learned the hard way, but the fact you take the time to share with others, it’s very helpful, and I also just really enjoy you’re channel and the content, thanks

Mate. you are a good bloke for doing this. I'm sure a lot of people have been scammed but don't let other people know. thanks for educating everybody.
Ikea scam vlog ... nice !
B is for Busting scammers

3:08...why are you in a shower filming? I must keep watching to make sense of this...
The Inja that was in the ikea store, I guess that’s just the funny of this video
He's at IKEA.
Goooooottttttt itttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
He’s in Ikea.. go back lol
When I realized he was at ikea, I had to watch the whole thing. Don't know why.

Agree with you, never pay money/deposit for a car you haven't seen and seen paperwork for and checked it's history.
Good job covering your ass, one thing I have learned, if everything feels rushed, take a step back. If it's a personal seller be extra careful.
Love the randomness that goes along with how serious this is.
EBay + money transfer = scam. Ebay/PayPal have secure system why he wanted you to wire money? I'd stop at that moment and stop responding
I legit wish you added the manual to the GTR instead of the Huracan. But the gated Huracan is still badass tho haha
“He has the eBay seller history behind him” I would never buy anything of that cost when he had only one customer that could be easily faked
Really enjoyed the unique camera angles and narrative style on this video. Your production value keeps going up on the content you're producing. Also, good on ya for having a sober driver!

There are so many Craigslist scams in my area
Im. So glad you didnt get screwed. Thanks for sharing the story. You ve probably saved other people from getting screwed too! Good man!
thats great that you didn't get scammed!. i would "NEVER" "EVER" buy a car online that I have never physically laid eyes on "NEVER"
This format of filming while moving around Ikea is genius. Keep up the creativity.
Lol, at my time of watching this there’s 1 dislike. Must be the guy that tried scamming him 😂
Good tips! I've bought and sold lots of cars online and it's always the same kind of deal: a deposit via paypal and then close the deal in person. If the person selling doesn't want to do that then it's always best to walk.

Cause sending it as friends and family cannot be disputed with PayPal. I worked for them for quite sometime 👍
As a guy with experience in buying cars from all over craigslist and ebay, I would have backed out as soon as he said that he wasn't physically with the vehicle. It's always a red flag. Like the format of this vlog, shower curtain and fridge made me laugh!
The fridge was the best lol happy new subscriber here
Absolutely love the editing and creative camera shots in this video. Good job Chris. Sorry to hear about almost getting got.
Funny I saw this auction and was about to buy it as well . What a small world. I had a feeling this was bad. Thanks for sharing.
I got scammed last December selling off my car. But it was entirely my fault, I was naive. Lesson learned. Thanks for this great video. More like this are needed.

anyone else get sidetracked watching Chelsea ikea shop? btw she really wants random blank books, the LEIRVIK bed and GRÖNLID sofa.
Thanks for the information. The internet is a good way to look for a car but as you said, if you can't see it and the information doesn't match up, walk away.
Your videos always make my day keep up the good work man

lmao the way you filmed in IKEA was hilarious.
I love all the different shots, it was actually hilarious
espically in the fridge
I'd recommend taking a Cashier's check vs cash to go meet someone to buy a car; you never know the situation you're walking into.
I agree not a good idea letting someone know that you are going to turn up with a big lump of cash.
conmanxtreme I wouldn't take a cashier's check as a legit seller. I want cash cus I'd feel more secure. Honestly idk what a cashier's check even is
Casher's checks have known to be faked. Best to check out the car and the person, then go to the bank and get the money out. Always take at least one other person with you. Never say that you are going to turn up with the cash.
or just tote along a pistol. problem solved

Geeezzz people just don’t let the price go ! A car is worth what anyone is willing to pay!
Rebuild the Past p
Added this to my learning playlist.
Pure gold information for everyone.
Papa Bless you Chris
I saw you talking about this on insta it sucks that some people do this man...
Thanks for taking a pass on this one. The Bentley was a scam. The GT-R wasn't. I started driving it July 6th and I love it.
And now imagine how epic would be to put a GTR v6 on the 240z
Thinking Dude There's one in Australia
a channel called Mighty Car Mods is putting an RB26 in one if that counts
Tazz Skittles nope inline 6 doesn’t count
That's not as original or cool (imo) as the V10.
check out rich autoworks on instagram and youtube, thats what hes building right now
This guy is not just a genius mechanic, but his video editing and shooting are danm creative...
Quite literally I was looking at that exact Bentley that guy was selling 😂😂 but was too shady for myself to buy a car just yet
Love the edit on this one. The IKEA scenes are gold. Thanks for taking us along through your day and sharing things like this. Keep it up man!
Where do you report something like this?? I was also almost scammed by someone who was selling a crashed corvette because they were being “deployed” and didn’t have enough time to fix it

Ic3.gov i guess?

What an amateur. He is a discrace to the scamming industry
PayPal tips as a buyer:
-pay as a gift or sale every time (add 3% if they want you to cover fees)
-if paid friends and family only do so with your credit/debit card or bank account because your last lifeline is a charge back in the most desperate cases
PayPal tips as a seller:
-ONLY accept payment gifts and sales for seller protection
-document everything (conversations, documents, shipping tracking numbers, etc)
wouldn't a rich guy just buy a new GTR?
Send an independent vehicle inspector to look at the car. Have him verify title and registration and the general situation of the sale. Send the deposit and include a little extra for a overnight return to you. Seller signs off on title and sends you title and a bill of sale. A big check to the tax man means a nice healthy gross for you. See the positive. Also get the rocket bunny back end on the Rx-7 PLEASE!
Also thanks for sharing the scam story. You outfoxed the scammer and armed other peeps with info. That is dictionary win win.
Or less than optimal tax planning.. Chris, I'm guessing BIFB is an LLC. If so, elect to be taxed as an S-corp and you'll pay much less self employment tax.

i mentioned that in the last video.. thats not a scam.. if i woulda given 2 shits before i bid i woulda looked at the car in person or had it inspected and known what i was bidding on.. not a scam, just me rollin the dice
Enjoying your channel
You really know the price of things ^^
B is for Build I know dude I just knew every would jump on the troll band wagon, full disclosure. Love you brother 😘
I loved the different scenes at IKEA, very entertaining and well done. And thanks for the information.
Loooooool
This kinda bs is common here in dubai. With the same reason.
E55 BæMG you do realise that æ is danish at least use Æ not æ
PharaØ GaMiNG You're looking into that too much. I'm pretty sure he's just using it in a stylistic way to write "BaeMG" Like AMG but it is his _Bae._
Coincidentally bae is Danish as well, it means shit
If you look for the multiple meanings of a word and care about it so much, you should re-evaluate your life.
Ran into similar scams on Craigslist. They were taking pics from other online ads or dealerships and establishing false backstories.
You should find a recked hellcat to build
Hater Bait lmao !!!
Yea when people wreck those
They fucking DESTROY THEM !!!
It’s actually *wreck*
No it’s actually “wrecked”
Im mechanic myself and love all your videos, thanks for making those videos you deserve those drinks
Thank you for the tips.
Redline Ricer just don’t do it. Either fly there or go there. Don’t send it any money.
Thanks for the video Chris. Always nice to have a heads up on these scams when possible.
Nice Dodge! R32/R33 import time?
Do them both!
can't import a 33 for two more years as of 2018. the first year r33s were made was 1995...
SirSquash not from the US so unsure on Import laws. Can you import now and reg in 2 years? I also know some people use the Canada work around
SirSquash r33s are legal next month in the us. 1993 was the first year of the r33 for the gtst, gtr yes you have to wait a couple years
I don't want to take away from the message of the video but I really liked the random filming locations like from inside of a fridge or pulling the shower curtain
I get scammed everytime I watch a clickbait video... although in most cases its never a disappointment.
OMG it's Dat V12 Miata!
Lmao, Being that I go to ikea up in portland for work related resasons almost weekly. I find these shots in ikea hysterical. Glad I stumbled on this video
lol the moment someone mentions dubai Id be hanging up.
Loving your videos dude, you are always entertaining even with a serious topic. The shots in the shop are funny too, I was comparing little old New Zealand to that store.
You talk while lying in bed in Ikea 😂😂😂
hijack778 after the death threats he lives in IKEA
I love the constant background changes, great story
Great intro

Damn chris sponsored by red robin
I really don't understand what kind of people dislike this video. It's just informative dummies
Happy you didn't get scammed. Scammers are scum
Chris thanks for the info. Also keep in mind that PayPal does not guarantee vehicle purchases, so maybe avoid PayPal all together for big stuff.
That's why i'm scared to buy stuff of ebay.
jean tsai I know those 99 cent items look so tempting , but I don't want to be ripped off
I've bought and occasionally sold everything from motorcycles, parts, and electronics from eBay since 2001.
IKEA strikes again.
Some good advice here! The really intricate "backstory" would have sounded a warning bell for me, right away.
Love the Ikea room hop blogging. You make me smile Chris, keep up the good work.
Great advice, awesome video 😂🇸🇪
Great advice and story! The best part of the video, however, is Chelsea dispassionately lounging in the background of your shots. I can't stop chuckling at that.
Woah, that's a trip. I used to live right by where that Red Robin you went to is located.
Thanks for the advice! We need to share this video to make others aware of these things
Love the refrigerator shot! LOL. Thanks for the advice.
Love this video, love the format, love the music - love your work mate!
