YA' boi "Car Guru"... tbh, really glad he changed that name. It made him sound pretentious....Tesla Guru would have Been more fitting. Although he does. ha a ZO6 so IDK.....
This guy is awesome. I've been a mechanic for 45 yrs,& saw this coming since the early 80's,when they started putting computers in cars. I've seen hundreds of cars in the junkyard that are newer & in better condition than the ones I own & drive. They're too expensive to fix, most people can't fix them,so they buy another one. It's great for the manufacturer, but bad for the customer,& the environment.
This will only get worse going forward. Especially in the higher end vehicles with the kick-ass infotainment setups. You'll have to find a car in the junkyard and gut it just to restore your backup camera, (the stuff that Rich does.) There will be no documtation anywhere, but then again the junkyard itself may not exist at all anyway.(See Japan.)
That's why you got Mech.s/ engineer mech.s to replace & fix the problems, Humans build machines. I love fixing all my vehicles, personally. My Dad taught me better than the school, He schooled me how to use my talents, school stop me from getting cheated. With a engineer mech. fixing things is like a hobbit, we love and know make money. We see broken things as a challenge & goal depending on the situation, Mech.s sometimes have there pick in things they will fix. When things broke that's how we know if it's a defect or normal wear & tear. Some of enjoy answering and solving the impossible and fixing defected parts/ problems. Rich never stop doing what you love. Love the Tesla cars and still in to small jets/ fans that make a cars fly, my 79, Terra jet already go's across water and land." Mech.s minds, create things first, then are hands, make it realize" RLG-J a.k.a "NA"
Your father was a wise man Sir. My father told me the same. When my car breaks, I fix it(might have to rent some expensive tools lol), when my a/c in my home breaks I fix it, when my appliances break, I fix them. My wife is a big fan 😁. Man shit brother that's how we do.
Same thing is happening to farmers in America. John Deere will not release the diagnostic equipment loose to anyone BuT the dealer. It makes repairs unreasonable to afford. There are other shady things John Deere has done too...these were just 2 recent ones.
Road warrior to the max, he would do the builds and train others to do the same and soon the zombie apocalypse will seem as if it never happened, of course after all the survivors ran flat over all the zombies and buried their remains.
jokes aside, apple has a lot more people working on non official repair shops, and spare parts though it still isn't offical. strange parts made a video on making a custom iphone, there's also a guy that made a 256GB iphone by replacing the memory chip.
This guy is an absolute LEGEND! Like what he said, people should have the right to fix and service their own cars. Keep doing what your are doing. The world needs people like you.
Pea Stone it is about money. Service is a goldmine. When you are the only game in town, you can charge a customer whatever the max is they would pay to avoid junking the car.
TBone4Eva Tesla is concerned with an accidental deployment of an airbag. The airbag came originally with the vehicle. The brake pads you put in are not original to the vehicle. Tesla most likely does not want to go through the hassle of someone trying to bring a lawsuit against them. Hence why a trained technician.
TESLA is making a BIG PR mistake here... Just ask William B. Johnson, the 1st African American Harley-Davidson Dealer in the 1920's... Both Rich and Mr. Johnson embrace the American Entrepreneurial Spirit...
“...if you pay your hard-earned money, you should be able to fix your own car yourself.” Believe it or not, all manufactures are going in this direction; Teslas by far the worst, but most modern cars need special dealership tools and computers to do even the simplest tasks. I applauded Rich for being both a pioneer and an advocate for owner repairs with not only Tesla’s but all modern vehicles. To lose the ability to repair a product you purchase and solely having to rely on the manufacturer is a loss of your freedom and puts you at the mercy of someone else.
Absolutely. Nothing is certain though, even Tesla's technicians who execute the repairs are capable of messing up unintentionally. Mistakes happen all the time. Source: 10 years worth if stories from family mechanics.
I'm not a wrench head.....no aptitude or interest, but the same is true of motorcycles.....BMW's. The dealership in my city WILL NOT work on anything older than 10 years. NOTHING. Had I known that prior to dropping a wad on a '87 K75- I would've bought something else. Here's what I think: ALL dealerships should be required to service ALL vehicles manufactured by said mfg. HONOR your fucking products!!! It's ridiculous that I have to use a 3rd. party- with no warranty for work performed, in a completely different city 60 miles away.....to get this fucker serviced.
@@edmisterenterprisesllc4650 Im going to assume that at this point hes (outside)funded and makes enough capital from the UA-cam page and outside sources that he doesnt need Teslas hand-outs for a job. :) This guy is awesome. If I won the lottery , I would fund him too.. I love Innovation
This guy is an overqualified mechanic and should be certified to be a Tesla independent mechanic. Support your community Tesla and offer certifications to open up more jobs!
I see a lot of people saying that Tesla should hire this guy. If they weren't just another evil corporation that really doesn't care about their customers, then yes I'd agree, but if this happened, he probably wouldn't last long because he wouldn't fit in. He has too much integrity, and other positive traits to be a "yes man".
They better not ever let me hit the lottery,🎫 because I'll fund the crap out of this guy and also get him his own training facility to give free training to young people so that they will have a good chance at having a great job. Rick if you ever get a message on your facebook telling you I am going to fund you, you better get ready to move onto the big time. No more small potatoes, it'll be big business and many students will be required.
If I ever got a big win on the lottery I would give this guy £1 million to help him in his cause. He's a genius, a gentleman and a hero. The world needs more of him.
No i'm aware it's dangerous to not allow people to fix their own vehicles. I say the Iphone of cars because they're trying to surpress that ability so that people will need to just buy another tesla/iphone rather than just fix the old one.
The scariest thing I can think of that is extremely close to this topic is farm equipment manufacturers limiting and denying the use of the diagnostic software that allowed the farmers to fix their own machines. These large companies are creating monopolies with their products that makes the buying of one of their items a contract that binds you to them. This is definitely a reform worth working with as many companies keep limiting the ability of the customer to be independent. I'm not sure if any of this rambling made any sense but I figured if one person could be lead to deeper research into the topic it would be worth commenting. Thanks for reading.
The Federal Gov't has regulations that allow owners and 3rd party access to software and documentation for repair and maintenance (calibration, etc.) for Medical Equipment. Code of federal regulation (21CFR) demands that manufacturers provide software and documentation to the owner of the equipment. Why isn't the auto industry the same? Hmm...
All the more argument for not being so quick to adopt new tech. This guy has identified a great need, and will probably become very wealthy in the process. More power to him.
Colton S wow! That is really Fd up! I grew up in a large farming community of independent farmers and belonged to FFA like a lot of my school mates. It was ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY and ENVIRONMENT and RECYCLING... keeping what you had and making it last decades enabled these families to have their part of life and joy of choice. Hell man farming is no cake walk! But for those whom live it, love it! Thanks for sharing.
My uncle owned a tractor that has ran for over 25 years without a hiccup. The motor finally gave out. He bought a replacement motor for it, and it only lasted less than a year. He paid almost double the price for the motor for what he paid for the whole entire tractor when he bought it new. The fleecing of America...
I have a lot of respect for this guy. To get started on an electric car that you've never worked on in your life... figuring you'll just figure it out as you go... Re-SPECT.
ugggggggghhhhhh... sadly. I've met so many folks, many older than me (30yr), who do not even know how to change a tire. I know it is not to the same caliber of fixing your vehicle, but I wasn't even allowed to have the keys for mine until I was able to demonstrate I could do it all by myself, cus, uh, they did not want to have to come to my rescue for a flat. I mean, anyway, it's the least you could do when gifted the privilege of operating fast, heavy road torpedoes around other small, weak fleshlings as us. My grandparents raised me, so I guess maybe I had more exposure to cool old stuff built really well and taken care of for decades, than fellow 90s kids growing up with crappy plastic goods everywhere that were Made in China, since things were easier and cheaper to just toss and replace. I was so bummed when I got to high school and there was no "Shop Class" as TV had promised. I'm excited for kids nowadays tho with all of the cool circuitry, coding, tinkering, engineering, science-y kits and stuff readily encouraged and accessible. Now if we can work on sustainability, as well. We were taught "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", but every year the voice of "Overindulge single use items, then toss" gets louder and more frequent. America has a small, but growing, minimalist movement, but our reputation holds pretty true about oversizing everything. I personally am of the *original* Church of MacGyver practice and have always loved puzzling things together for renewed life. And then, as for recycling, my neighborhood only started regular service a few years ago, previously only upon request, which is weird because our household and street, 15 min away, always had the service as long as I can remember, and even still my region only offers Single-Stream, which has a ton of problems. Unfortunately, the incentive still just isn't there for most businesses to change their practices to reduce/repackage/source better materials on their end, while many areas still either don't have the facilities set up for citizens or they make it such a chore that only the really conscientious or passionate will endure it. For an idea of what it is like to be an American right now, watch Idiocracy; though exaggerated, we are quickly becoming not far off from that reality.
But yeah, like he said, there's a revolution coming. I noticed this years ago when I became really interested in the Tiny House movement. There are a bunch of really cool niche groups in so many fields, with passionate members whose core beliefs and functions are of Sustainability through Community, that I have no doubt Progress will eventually take the lead, the question is just of when.
I don't know how to explain but... Wow this man is fantastic, nothing will stop him from his convictions, and that, is one of the most powerful thing that exist in heart. Thanks for the wonderful job!
YES are you talking about "people should know the products they own..." YESSS I soooo fricken agree especially agree with cars that's the average American's most profitable(gets you to work and required by most jobs) and used tool.
@E Town id imagine quite a lot of them at tesla. Are all mechanics are just retarded losers that can't possibly understand the integrity of a tesla? It's a car. He fixes it. Mechanics fix cars. He's a mechanic. That's not an insult.
You shouldn't be able to burn it due to the ecological and environmental damage that posses, but I do agree you have a right to own the property you buy.
horny puppy i agree bro. Bearish short sellers call Tesla a cult and I’m like yeah that’s fair enough, but why is that necessarily a bad thing? Tesla’s brand inspires and motivates people and thats worth a lot even if it is intangible.
Their "we don't have dealerships that a customer can go to", "we don't sell parts to customers", "our cars need to be connected to our servers 24/7, or they won't drive"... That attitude. The idea that when you buy an 85.000 euro car, that you do not own it. You do not get to decide who repairs or maintains what. Because Tesla will refuse to sell you parts. Just look at the video "hey I need som lug nut covers for my tesla p85" -"may I ask why you need those?" Umm no, you may not ask why he needs them. He just does. Sell him the lug nut covers, don't ask stupid questions. "Hey my charger is busted, what does a new one cost?" -"What's your VIN?" "5 blahblahblah" -"yeah we're not selling you parts, that car is on our restricted list" That attitude. Tesla has no right to refuse the sale of parts to customers. Full stop.
The world needs more men like Motherboard a resourceful, smart, self-dependent, problem solver who recognizes great technology and directs it toward the betterment of mankind. Tesla would benefit greatly from hiring him but We would not.
This guy is what I call , SUPER MECHANIC!!! It takes a whole lot of skill and of course courage to rebuild these HI-TECH vehicles! I wish there was someway to support this guy and encourage him to keep doing what he's doing, because a lot of people desperately need his help! Instead of TESLA embracing what he does, they're persecuting him!!!
This guy understands what many Americans understand intuitively, but few have the moxi to move further. This guy is helping a lot of people understand how recycling can change our world. Cheers to him, for sure.
Way to go Rich! Keep up the good work! You're so intrepid! Elon Musk needs to walk-the-walk about going green and sustainability. Glad that you're showing him how it's truly done.
This is how cars for years have been rebuilt. The sad crime that has happened to Millinials is they have been denied history on how the world worked. They are being made to feel as if corporate control over their lives is ok it's not
fuckin A dude, the students I've worked with don't even get that you're supposed to be able to fix things. They just wait for corporations in their suburbs to give them a new stimulus
Makes me sad to be honest. So many people I know are like this. Something breaks, they just go get a new one. But then, we're the generation that's always whining about never having money. I'd bet the non-fixing attitude is a huge part of that problem.
yeah, i'm mechanically inclined but everyone in my generation has the mentality of you need a new car when yours breaks down whether you can afford it or not. Also phones are a 1-2 year purchase which most buy with financing and the real kicker. They usually don't have the phone paid off by the time they upgrade. XD
yeah at stealership prices. Dealerships make most of their profit in servicing & repairing cars/ selling parts. it's 60+% of their total profits. It's a corrupt system everywhere. Elon Musk is trying to eliminate any and all profit from the servicing side, but hearing stuff like this video makes it appear to be even worse than today's automakers.
mad respect for this guy. taking on a project of this magnitude in itself is insanely difficult. adding to the mix it's a Tesla and unsupported adds a whole new level of difficulty. And NOT just saying screw it and throwing an LS in it makes him a legend.
Uncle Rich is going to be quite in high demand soon - Tesla may have (finally) solved its production issues, but the next one that they are not addressing is servicing. In Norway where Tesla's largest market is, Tesla is already at the bottom level of customer satisfaction in terms of servicing issues & Tesla in their infinite wisdom does not allow independent garages to service their vehicles. People like Rich are going to have to step up...well, until Elon Musk files a cease & desist order anyways.
if tesla ever expects to become a market leader in the future of cars, they need to help integrate 3rd party repair services with their proprietary hardware and software. they dont have the resources to franchise repair shops around the globe.
@@AmpHibious I see your point, but also, keep in mind that EVs don't have nearly the same presence in the market as gas autos do at this point. Im sure that once they become more common, 3rd parties will have a better chance of successfully operating EV repair shops. And the tools needed will probably become more common. If Tesla wants to keep their secrets, then let them. It will only make them less desirable in the end, and increase competitive business in the EV market.
This was how Toyota was born, wat this man is during is essentialally back engineering a Tesla and if he continues maybe gets together with a few guys some investors u never know he might invent the next best Tesla and back to Toyota they bought an American car back engineered it and invented the Toyota, people anything is possible I hope more good comes from this, what a guy!
Come a long since the still photos of Delilah rebuild Great to see your channel grow Yes I get it keep doing what you do Best wishes to you and your family
"Tesla Service, how may I help you?" "Hi, I need those lugnut covers." "What do you need those for?" I am officially never, ever, ever, buying a Tesla. Not ever. WOW. I've never heard such a thing. That is unbelievable.
I don't think this is the right Response for a Problem like this. Those Cars have a lot of little Things that if more People take it into theit own Hand suddenly a Market pops up. What do You think, how long will it take until we can Download a File to 3D-print the missing Part if Tesla refuses to sell it ? Uuuh there is this Copyright Stuff, yeah i haven't forgotten. Will they really sue someone over this and make a complete Fool of themselves ?
Tesla is going to need him some day? Ya, ok. And this man is not stupid but, brilliant? No. Nikola Tesla was brilliant. Einstein brilliant. I can spin off 10 or 15 people in 10 or 15 seconds that can put a salvaged Tesla back together, including myself. Brilliant! Genius! Come on people!
@@BONFIRERG. In their homes, at work, friends house's, etc. Did not say this guy is dumb...but a genius? Someone Tesla is going to need at some point? Come on, really? 20 years ago at my auto tech business we used take two late model wrecks and with top of the line frame machine and make one great fully restored inspectable car (not a Tesla...Buick Regals). The shops CNC machine could mill a new aluminum head if need be or tech's could together an engine harness consisting of a hundred different wires where each one had to be inspected to insure it was correctly led to where it was suppose to go. And then check each part on the other end electronically to see if the part was good. This man in the video is just electronically and mechanically handy. And he has the will to do it. Same as myself, same as the other 15 or 20 I know and I would venture to estimate same as a certain percentage of viewers that have seen this video. Here's a test for us; a survey if you will to prove my point. Any viewers reading this that believe they have the technical ability to put a wrecked Tesla back together please respond by checking a thumbs up. And for anyone that feels the need a thumbs down if you can not. This ofcourse is not a science and will not actually be real proof but, what the hell...who here is a tech and believes he/she has this skill or aptitude...give a thumbs up or down.
I have been following Rich from the start, a fantastic channel with insights into Tesla that you just can't get elsewhere. I am always trying to learn about new tech for my trade but Tesla's approach is not the right one, as a qualified motor tech they have also limited the repair capabilities for us in Ireland, the right to repair is a very important one, and when you take out people that work in the industry you are trying to keep it all for your company. They should at least offer the info to registered workshops so it can be repaired to spec. Even offer paid training courses if they wanted to make sure it is done to a standard. Just don't try and control it all, Rich is right when he says about owning the vehicle, what do you really own if they can wireless deactivate super charging and refuse to sell parts on salvage owners.
Or wirelessly UNLOCK your cars potential giving you maximum distance per charge and maximum horse power ( an upgrade that would normally cost around $4,000-$9,000 depending on your model) like they did in Florida 4 people evacuating the state when the hurricane came. Effectively making DLC aka Disc Locked Content in video games, DLC in cars as well.
DeadlyDre Really! And that little coincidence didn't make the TV news here. I was going to question why this channel showed up with multiple videos in my feeds, and then chew some arse, but these facts are fed the illuminati in me.i
Sam Lyon Apple throttled their iDevices due to age of the battery. Even Louis Rossman wasn't too terribly upset by that. Samsung did the same damn thing after their galaxy S7 actually started catching on fire. Good try, but I call bullshitonit.
I wish I could upvote this video more than once.. I love Rich's attitude. He is to Tesla what Louis Rossmann is to Apple. We need to push back against anti consumer practices.
He's right thought about learning to fix your own car. I own a Toyota Yaris hatch back and i took it to Firestone because my right passenger window wasn't going up when it was down and it was suppose to rain the day it took it there. They charge you a 65$ inspection fee. They had me there for 45 minutes just to tell me the motor was bad and they were gonna charge me 746 to fix it. And if i didnt wanna do that they were gonna charge me 110 just to take the window off the motor and put it on a cleat but they couldn't guarantee that it wouldnt fall and break. Long story short, i went home, took out the passenger window switch apart and one of the prongs in the button was just broken. I ordered a new switch and The new switch only cost 12 bucks! I just stuffed the old one with electric tape until the new one arrived and that same day i got my refund for the inspection!
Pedro Martinez yeah bro shops will do that I changed a small attachment to my water pump on my mustang and the part only costed a couple bucks yet they charged me like 250 bucks and took like 3 hours....some shops are just pieces of shit, that’s why I do my own repairs now.
Pedro FOR THE WIN.....nice. I thought totally you were going to say your brother law had one..and charged you 3 bucks...but a great story and happy For The Win anyways..lol
For them to tell you the motor was bad they would have to take off the door panel and bench test the motor. So they lied to you. Don't let water get on those switches. Wipe the rain off. Best thing is to do what you did. Depend on yourself and don't be afraid to try to fix it yourself.
Yes! no surprise here! ... Toyota dealers in Australia in my experience quote RIP-OFF prices to fix faults that don't exist! .... Clearly ..... CRIMINALS! No other word for it.
every shop i have ever dealt with was lying overcharging pieces of crap except this one retired mechanic who worked in his own garage but he had a 2 month wait before you get your car back from him fixed! Needless to say I now fix cars myself!
@@charlesclement383 or people who dont like vice/motherboard in general. im neither racist nor a trump supporter and will dislike every motherboard or vice video that comes up as recommended. Im already subscribed to rich and love his smart and funny style of videos so its not going to effect him at all
I see some people do not understand what will happen if you mess with one of these cars. Here is a simple answer, THEY WILL BLOW UP. These cars are meant to be serviced by trained technicians. One wrong touch on a wire will cause your instant death, leaving you a sizzling mess on the floor. If you touch any of the wires together, you can fry the entire system or short them and cause a heck of a lot of damage. The main reason Tesla hates rich is because of this. If one of his cars blows up on the road or the autopilot starts acting weird and crashes the car, it will look really bad for Tesla. I’m sure some of you may have heard about some of the crashes on the road from Tesla’s, and news reporters saying that they might not be safe. Yet they never talk about the other thousand crashes that occur on the road from any other car brand. TLDR, this is bad publicity for Tesla if something goes wrong.
todd herron you can say the same thing about gasoline powered vehicles. This is the new generation of vehicles and of course there will be people who don't read up before touching stuff but the fault will be on them.
Well it feels like the past to me. Guys have been doing stuff like this since the car was invented. In the fifties and sixties they called them tinkerers and hot rodders, now they call them hackers. It's six of one and half a dozen of the other.
As I know it the reason that Tesla wants sole proprietor over their property and even repair of it is that has something to do with this off the grid reasoning. In my neck of the woods they have water catchment and wind farm or putting windmill on your house is all sanctioned by the utilities. Tesla is the same of the corporate utilities that bring about these rules or and or laws that we cannot do certain things.
Huge respect to this guy, its amazing how someone can do this on his own with zero support from the manufacturer, Tesla sadly seems to be the Apple of the automotive world with these shady practices.
He said this so well 6:40 , we live in a society where you purchase and when it breaks you just buy a new one. Cars are design and put together to last through a cycle of lease and then just get a new lease on a new car. I buy cars that are maybe 20 years old with between 150,000 to 200,000 miles and drive those till they break
Jason Richardson he's a black man with a brilliant mind if he is not controld he won't be sold. Maybe some one like Elon musk now that's some this man should consider working with. Who in my opinion would give him the credit he deserves.
harambe is a true legend You need to look up the English dictionary. Pursuits has more than one meaning : _an activity that one engages in as a vocation, profession, or avocation_ Synonyms for pursuit - _work, employment, occupation, calling, pursuit, métier, business mean a specific sustained activity engaged in especially in earning one's living. work may apply to any purposeful activity whether remunerative or not_
He’s a boss! If I had the money and had a Tesla I would ship it out to him to fix it and pay him what Tesla would charge just to stick it to them a little bit.
My only concern is how about the warranty on these second hand parts? And isn't the registration of a vehicle has numbers specified to a certain bought unit? If you changed an engine that goes also to your registration right? so he salvaged and fixed cars then what happen? Is he gonna sell it? Whos gonna buy it? How are you going to register it?
Tesla has missed a very important thing: GM, Ford, all the rest have their older model vehicles improved through enthusiasts modding them to suit themselves. Some of those improvements made their way into current ones. Mr. Musk needs to swallow his pride and use folks like Rich to improve and correct some of their screw ups which because folks like Rich are using their own cash, really costs Tesla NOTHING. Keep it up man!
Randy Eller that’s not the main issue. The Tesla is an extremely well known luxury car. It also happens to be powered by batteries, which makes it even more noticed by the public eye. If you ever watch the news, you may have seen them talk about a man who died while watching a movie and having the car on autopilot. This one crash made the headlines for weeks, and really hurt the Tesla brand. If one of Rich Rebuilds cars decide to blow up because he did something wrong, this would look really bad on Tesla. Similar to how the Samsung galaxy note 7 did. The reason Tesla does not support rebuilds is for this exact reason. Tldr, if his car blows up due to something he messes up, it would look really bad for Tesla.
todd herron Yes! So true! That's what happened to my Ford mustang that I replace the engine in. I was in the news for weeks when it blew up and caught fire from my stupid mistakes. GTFOH!
todd herron That's a problem with the public reaction and click bait news, not with being a mechanic. People used to fear driving cars because of the gasoline inside them. The public and manufactures found a way to mitigate that fear and make it safe. Similarly, manufacturers of cars like Tesla will need to find a way to make it easier, safer, and accessible to fix vehicles; whether that's car owners or certified repair shops not owned Tesla.
@EL: You sir are the exact reason Tesla do not want people dappling within their cars technology. Your engine probably did explode, but you were too shy to admit it to anyone because of the stupid & unprofessional turbo or nitrous oxygen modifications you tried making to it.
A lot of mods done on cars are Worthless useless unnecessary n plain dumb. Mostly for show and don't improve the performance or gas mileage. The engineers that designed it and built it got it right and one can't take millions of dollars n engineering and design and improve it with a few hundred dollar modification.
There was a time when our grandparents fixed everything they owned from shoes to stoves. Proud people who could handle any situation and this gentleman is cut from that cloth. A confident, well-spoken, genius whose earth centric and should be in a University teaching our kids in the states. #howcouldibebetter #applause
An engineer in New Zealand restored a Tesla; the car looks prestine and like new. Tesla refused to support it (software or offer free supercharging). They are like the Apple of the car world...
This is how it starts. He first rebuilds Tesla Cars ; in 2077 he’s gonna rebuild decommissioned Tesla robots and machines. Dude, I can see a movie made on this.
I've driven the P100D and it is a great car but seeing how Tesla treats people like Rich makes me not even want to consider buying it with price not in mind.
I have watched Rich's channel and it's interesting. He's learned a lot about Tesla's without any help from Tesla. Any software updates are done via WiFi directly to the car, but they won't help someone restoring an original Tesla. They seem to fight him at every corner and it's making Tesla look bad. If Teslas are not repairable, they will not absorb into the marketplace.
I think this is Elon himself. He's looking to integrate his cars into society, this doesn't make him look good at all. If I were buying an electric car, I'd wait until a large manufacturer with a replacement part network willing to help owners of older or second hand cars offered one. They know that supporting owners of older cars makes for customers when they decide to buy new.
I think other car manufacturer are starting to get into ev and if they let auto shops to repair the ev. Tesla will have to let auto shop work on them too.
Where a lot of people stop before they even try (for a plethora of reasons), Rich says, go for it. I have been going back and forth on my own idea for a business, and this helps me push ahead.
The son I never had..! Thank you for sharing. My faith in humanity has been restored a bit, by learning about this man. What a nice person..! In abstract ways, he exemplifies the meaning of the statement, "Men of Good Will" and supports the other statement that goes, "El Arte Del Buen Proceder" that this gentleman seems to amply command...! If we could clone this man, and have them all as neighbours, in absolute solidarity and unanimous sense of purpose, for ever and ever. How nice this universe would be..!
Louis Rossmann who repairs Apple computers on UA-cam got into this situation. Louis stated that he'll take the videos down if Apple went public with their complaint. Apple soon backed off.
You guys in the States have trees growing out of junked Tesla’s, the Model 3 isn’t even in Australia yet haha! This Bloke must have Superhuman Perseverance. Respect
3:11 a great man once told me: either you go out there and win or you come back and you have learned something. This is a great example of failure, acceptance, learning and then moving on to the next win.
I spent my early years rebuilding total losses & worked most of my life as a collision repair specialist, owning my own shop for over 20 years. This allowed my wife & I to drive a lot of late model cars for free & gave me the skills to build lots of classic cars for myself & others,
"If you own something; if you purchase something free and clear, then you should be able to fix it yourself". I rate his philosophy 100%.
@LamaDeluxe the second one, and the second one support from the manufacturer would also include knowledge of how to fix it.
@LamaDeluxe you should be able to have the choice to go to whomever to get your vechicle fixed not have one choice

Could u buy these from the junk yard and fix it yourself? Or is it still to expensive
Kind of strange for a green company I mean electric car company to not let you recycle and reuse something you own??
Well, it's easy. Don't buy a Tesla. Buy cars from reputable companies :)

Not sure if it has to do with liability issues especially when it comes to airbags.
Pea Stone I just replaced the brakes on my Ford Focus myself, if I messed up something and get into an accident, is Ford liable? Of course not!

This is exactly the reason we didn't buy a modern tractor
My uncle owned a tractor that has ran for over 25 years without a hiccup. The motor finally gave out. He bought a replacement motor for it, and it only lasted less than a year. He paid almost double the price for the motor for what he paid for the whole entire tractor when he bought it new. The fleecing of America...

Rich is right....you should be able to fix what you own.
Is that a question in the states lol...
ugggggggghhhhhh...

This man's attention to detail is amazing. The world would be a better place if people had his mentality
Tesla would do well to hire this guy as a consultant or exec, so he can fix their attitude
MrTingles what attitude
Their "we don't have dealerships that a customer can go to", "we don't sell parts to customers", "our cars need to be connected to our servers 24/7, or they won't drive"...
That attitude. The idea that when you buy an 85.000 euro car, that you do not own it. You do not get to decide who repairs or maintains what. Because Tesla will refuse to sell you parts.
Just look at the video "hey I need som lug nut covers for my tesla p85" -"may I ask why you need those?"
Umm no, you may not ask why he needs them. He just does. Sell him the lug nut covers, don't ask stupid questions.
"Hey my charger is busted, what does a new one cost?"
-"What's your VIN?"
"5 blahblahblah"
-"yeah we're not selling you parts, that car is on our restricted list"
That attitude. Tesla has no right to refuse the sale of parts to customers. Full stop.
Here here.
The world needs more men like Motherboard a resourceful, smart, self-dependent, problem solver who recognizes great technology and directs it toward the betterment of mankind. Tesla would benefit greatly from hiring him but We would not.

This is why i bought a car from 1962
yeah, i'm mechanically inclined but everyone in my generation has the mentality of you need a new car when yours breaks down whether you can afford it or not.

Because they don't even have enough parts to service the cars. You have to wait for weeks to months for some parts.

TESLA - this is an OPPORTUNITY not a threat!
if tesla ever expects to become a market leader in the future of cars, they need to help integrate 3rd party repair services with their proprietary hardware and software. they dont have the resources to franchise repair shops around the globe.
What the person said makes sense though, people are dumb and they are going to learn the hard way( heck load of volts passing through them)
@@AmpHibious I see your point, but also, keep in mind that EVs don't have nearly the same presence in the market as gas autos do at this point. Im sure that once they become more common, 3rd parties will have a better chance of successfully operating EV repair shops. And the tools needed will probably become more common. If Tesla wants to keep their secrets, then let them. It will only make them less desirable in the end, and increase competitive business in the EV market.

Idk man they have a genius already
Proud of this dude. We need to support him everyone. Wake up
I have been following Rich from the start, a fantastic channel with insights into Tesla that you just can't get elsewhere.
Gerard Burke You are right. The solution to the problem is not to buy their cars, until they change the rulles.

Apple throttled their iDevices due to age of the battery. Even Louis Rossman wasn't too terribly upset by that. Samsung did the same damn thing after their galaxy S7 actually started catching on fire. Good try, but I call bullshitonit.
"It's on our restricted VIN list"
"Ah, guess I'll just stick a diesel engine in it then"
wait... are you a DABOSS viewer???
I wish I could upvote this video more than once.. I love Rich's attitude. He is to Tesla what Louis Rossmann is to Apple. We need to push back against anti consumer practices.
I love the concept of what he's doing and figuring it out him self
Who are the 2500 haters? I mean, seriously, the guy is awesome.
I can only assume they are Trump supporters, racist people etc..The man's black.
@@charlesclement383 Wtf are you talking about dude lol. You think the democrats aren't just as "Racist"...
Jesus. Take that race crap somewhere else you troll
I think they are more likely to support trup if they are racist
@@charlesclement383 or people who dont like vice/motherboard in general. im neither racist nor a trump supporter and will dislike every motherboard or vice video that comes up as recommended. Im already subscribed to rich and love his smart and funny style of videos so its not going to effect him at all
Rich is a great guy with very valid points. You never can take away the right and pleasure of working on your own vehicle. People find a way.
YES SIR! Good ole American ingenuity=WINNING! HEY Volvo, suck it!
Fuckin WAAAAH I am A trained ASE MASTER technician that understands bridging high AND low inputs to any VOLVO or TESLA circuits ! WINNING!
chuck fults real mature. Thanks for the lovely conversation.
todd herron you can say the same thing about gasoline powered vehicles. This is the new generation of vehicles and of course there will be people who don't read up before touching stuff but the fault will be on them.
Rich not being sarcastic for 18 minutes straight is oddly refreshing :D
I went into this video thinking I'd watch a few seconds of this. I'm immediately subscribing to his channel.
Yup
Yep you won't be disappointed.
Same
Found about him when i haa an exam and i stood all night learning while watching his vids
I did the same thing.
*I highly Suggest people head to Rich's channel and check it out. I have been watching his videos for awhile and they're great.*
Feels like the future to me when i see people fix broken high tech stuff from the what would be the past (wich is the present now)
Well it feels like the past to me.
That makes him a douche nozzle.
Huge respect to this guy, its amazing how someone can do this on his own with zero support from the manufacturer,
Tesla sadly seems to be the Apple of the automotive world with these shady practices.
Someone invest in this special man,
Jason Richardson he's a black man with a brilliant mind if he is not controld he won't be sold. Maybe some one like Elon musk now that's some this man should consider working with. Who in my opinion would give him the credit he deserves.
Great to see a father and daughter engaged in intellectual pursuits....love your channel
harambe is a true legend You need to look up the English dictionary. Pursuits has more than one meaning : _an activity that one engages in as a vocation, profession, or avocation_
Synonyms for pursuit -
_work, employment, occupation, calling, pursuit, métier, business mean a specific sustained activity engaged in especially in earning one's living. work may apply to any purposeful activity whether remunerative or not_
Love what you're doing, Rich! Please, PLEASE keep it up and continue paving the way for the next generation of DIY mechanics!
He’s a boss! If I had the money and had a Tesla I would ship it out to him to fix it and pay him what Tesla would charge just to stick it to them a little bit.
86mdwolfie what about getting the parts 😂
@@meeee500 did you even watch the video? Salvage cars.
D'Angelo EL Mirage did you even read my comment
My only concern is how about the warranty on these second hand parts? And isn't the registration of a vehicle has numbers specified to a certain bought unit? If you changed an engine that goes also to your registration right? so he salvaged and fixed cars then what happen? Is he gonna sell it? Whos gonna buy it? How are you going to register it?
im not an electric car kind of guy, but i got super respect for Rich!!!! You're the man!!!! Free Market sir!!!
A lot of mods done on cars are
Worthless useless unnecessary n plain dumb.
They don't support the car because restored cars are incredibly unreliable.
Many Different Things
Indeed they’re not rockets, they’re giants batteries than catch fire if someone messes with it.
you've never heard of McLaren have you?
Wes S wrote, "God people are so stupid"
You are "projecting," Wes S.
You are exactly what society needs
This is how it starts. He first rebuilds Tesla Cars ; in 2077 he’s gonna rebuild decommissioned Tesla robots and machines. Dude, I can see a movie made on this.
Start writing it!!!
He probably has the knowledge of an entire department in Tesla. Elon should get him ...
Until they put a contract on his ass.......end of story.
Look up what happened to the inventors of the electric car 60 some odd years ago
man, that'd be a good movie
This guy is so inspirational. Simply genius! The attitude towards challenges is just outstanding
This doesn't make me want to buy a tesla. This makes me want to invest in +Rich_Rebuilds and buy the first electric car Rich designs =)
I've driven the P100D and it is a great car but seeing how Tesla treats people like Rich makes me not even want to consider buying it with price not in mind.
YESSSSSSSS
Edward Charles. Count Me In I love this guy what he stands for definitely I will invest
Facts
Agreed
I have watched Rich's channel and it's interesting. He's learned a lot about Tesla's without any help from Tesla. Any software updates are done via WiFi directly to the car, but they won't help someone restoring an original Tesla. They seem to fight him at every corner and it's making Tesla look bad. If Teslas are not repairable, they will not absorb into the marketplace.
As usual, it's the lawyers trying to start wars. Piss em off, Elon.
LogicalSense citation needed. Tesla are incredibly safety conscious. So much so it's international news when one crashes
I think other car manufacturer are starting to get into ev and if they let auto shops to repair the ev. Tesla will have to let auto shop work on them too.
Fred Garvin I wanted one and was actually looking at them but I’m DIY guy so no Tesla for me in the future unless this changes.
Where a lot of people stop before they even try (for a plethora of reasons), Rich says, go for it. I have been going back and forth on my own idea for a business, and this helps me push ahead.
This guy seems super cool. Super smart. I'm glad he's helping all those poor, poor Tesla owners out there too!
Mia Mitten when?
this was almost a year ago
You guys in the States have trees growing out of junked Tesla’s, the Model 3 isn’t even in Australia yet haha!
This Bloke must have Superhuman Perseverance. Respect
3:11 a great man once told me: either you go out there and win or you come back and you have learned something. This is a great example of failure, acceptance, learning and then moving on to the next win.
Love what you do Rich! God bless you.
I didn't know Rich could be this serious for this long lol
Yeah it was weird it was like rich was at a job interview or inlaws for the first time.

I spent my early years rebuilding total losses & worked most of my life as a collision repair specialist, owning my own shop for over 20 years. This allowed my wife & I to drive a lot of late model cars for free & gave me the skills to build lots of classic cars for myself & others,
