      unfortunately when you choose to register your property with the gov, you waive legal title, now only have equitable interest.
      in simple terms. receive a fix it ticket cracked windshield 🤔 its their property your responsibility is to maintain it. tags expired? or yearly tax? how can you be taxed on something you own? you can't!

    This guy is awesome. I've been a mechanic for 45 yrs,& saw this coming since the early 80's,when they started putting computers in cars. I've seen hundreds of cars in the junkyard that are newer & in better condition than the ones I own & drive. They're too expensive to fix,most people can't fix them,so they buy another one. It's great for the manufacturer,but bad for the customer,& the environment.

    • @trescohen8232
      @trescohen8232 4 роки тому +1

      Could u buy these from the junk yard and fix it yourself? Or is it still to expensive

    • @danielschoenherr2650
      @danielschoenherr2650 4 роки тому +8

      This will only get worse going forward. Especially in the higher end vehicles with the kick-ass infotainment setups. You'll have to find a car in the junkyard and gut it just to restore your backup camera, (the stuff that Rich does.) There will be no documtation anywhere, but then again the junkyard itself may not exist at all anyway.(See Japan.)

      That's why you got Mech.s/ engineer mech.s to replace & fix the problems, Humans build machines. I love fixing all my vehicles, personally. My Dad taught me better than the school, He schooled me how to use my talents, school stop me from getting cheated. With a engineer mech. fixing things is like a hobbit, we love and know make money. We see broken things as a challenge & goal depending on the situation, Mech.s sometimes have there pick in things they will fix. When things broke that's how we know if it's a defect or normal wear & tear. Some of enjoy answering and solving the impossible and fixing defected parts/ problems. Rich never stop doing what you love. Love the Tesla cars and still in to small jets/ fans that make a cars fly, my 79, Terra jet already go's across water and land." TBone4Eva Tesla is concerned with an accidental deployment of an airbag. The airbag came originally with the vehicle. The brake pads you put in are not original to the vehicle. Tesla most likely does not want to go through the hassle of someone trying to bring a lawsuit against them. Hence why a trained technician.

    “...if you pay your hard-earned money, you should be able to fix your own car yourself.” Believe it or not, all manufactures are going in this direction; Teslas by far the worst, but most modern cars need special dealership tools and computers to do even the simplest tasks. I applauded Rich for being both a pioneer and an advocate for owner repairs with not only Tesla’s but all modern vehicles. To lose the ability to repair a product you purchase and solely having to rely on the manufacturer is a loss of your freedom and puts you at the mercy of someone else.

    • @jnetttt

Had I known that prior to dropping a wad on a '87 K75- I would've bought something else. Here's what I think: ALL dealerships should be required to service ALL vehicles manufactured by said mfg.

    The scariest thing I can think of that is extremely close to this topic is farm equipment manufacturers limiting and denying the use of the diagnostic software that allowed the farmers to fix their own machines. These large companies are creating monopolies with their products that makes the buying of one of their items a contract that binds you to them. This is definitely a reform worth working with as many companies keep limiting the ability of the customer to be independent. I'm not sure if any of this rambling made any sense but I figured if one person could be lead to deeper research into the topic it would be worth commenting.
    Thanks for reading.

      The Federal Gov't has regulations that allow owners and 3rd party access to software and documentation for repair and maintenance (calibration, etc.) for Medical Equipment. Code of federal regulation (21CFR) demands that manufacturers provide software and documentation to the owner of the equipment. Why isn't the auto industry the same? Hmm...

      ugggggggghhhhhh... sadly.
      I've met so many folks, many older than me (30yr), who do not even know how to change a tire. I know it is not to the same caliber of fixing your vehicle, but I wasn't even allowed to have the keys for mine until I was able to demonstrate I could do it all by myself, cus, uh, they did not want to have to come to my rescue for a flat. I mean, anyway, it's the least you could do when gifted the privilege of operating fast, heavy road torpedoes around other small, weak fleshlings as us.
      My grandparents raised me, so I guess maybe I had more exposure to cool old stuff built really well and taken care of for decades, than fellow 90s kids growing up with crappy plastic goods everywhere that were Made in China, since things were easier and cheaper to just toss and replace. I was so bummed when I got to high school and there was no "Shop Class" as TV had promised. I'm excited for kids nowadays tho with all of the cool circuitry, coding, tinkering, engineering, science-y kits and stuff readily encouraged and accessible. Now if we can work on sustainability, as well. We were taught "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", but every year the voice of "Overindulge single use items, then toss" gets louder and more frequent. America has a small, but growing, minimalist movement, but our reputation holds pretty true about oversizing everything. I personally am of the *original* Church of MacGyver practice and have always loved puzzling things together for renewed life. And then, as for recycling, my neighborhood only started regular service a few years ago, previously only upon request, which is weird because our household and street, 15 min away, always had the service as long as I can remember, and even still my region only offers Single-Stream, which has a ton of problems. Unfortunately, the incentive still just isn't there for most businesses to change their practices to reduce/repackage/source better materials on their end, while many areas still either don't have the facilities set up for citizens or they make it such a chore that only the really conscientious or passionate will endure it.
      For an idea of what it is like to be an American right now, watch Idiocracy; though exaggerated, we are quickly becoming not far off from that reality.

    • @coololds
      @coololds 6 років тому +1

      But yeah, like he said, there's a revolution coming. I noticed this years ago when I became really interested in the Tiny House movement. In Norway where Tesla's largest market is, Tesla is already at the bottom level of customer satisfaction in terms of servicing issues & Tesla in their infinite wisdom does not allow independent garages to service their vehicles. People like Rich are going to have to step up...well, until Elon Musk files a cease & desist order anyways.

And then check each part on the other end electronically to see if the part was good. This man in the video is just electronically and mechanically handy. And he has the will to do it. Same as myself, same as the other 15 or 20 I know and I would venture to estimate same as a certain percentage of viewers that have seen this video. Here's a test for us; a survey if you will to prove my point. Any viewers reading this that believe they have the technical ability to put a wrecked Tesla back together please respond by checking a thumbs up. And for anyone that feels the need a thumbs down if you can not. This ofcourse is not a science and will not actually be real proof but, what the hell...who here is a tech and believes he/she has this skill or aptitude...give a thumbs up or down.

    I have been following Rich from the start, a fantastic channel with insights into Tesla that you just can't get elsewhere. I am always trying to learn about new tech for my trade but Tesla's approach is not the right one, as a qualified motor tech they have also limited the repair capabilities for us in Ireland, the right to repair is a very important one, and when you take out people that work in the industry you are trying to keep it all for your company. They should at least offer the info to registered workshops so it can be repaired to spec. Even offer paid training courses if they wanted to make sure it is done to a standard.
    Just don't try and control it all, Rich is right when he says about owning the vehicle, what do you really own if they can wireless deactivate super charging and refuse to sell parts on salvage owners.

    He's right thought about learning to fix your own car. I own a Toyota Yaris hatch back and i took it to Firestone because my right passenger window wasn't going up when it was down and it was suppose to rain the day it took it there. They charge you a 65$ inspection fee. They had me there for 45 minutes just to tell me the motor was bad and they were gonna charge me 746 to fix it. And if i didnt wanna do that they were gonna charge me 110 just to take the window off the motor and put it on a cleat but they couldn't guarantee that it wouldnt fall and break.
    Long story short, i went home, took out the passenger window switch apart and one of the prongs in the button was just broken. I ordered a new switch and The new switch only cost 12 bucks! I just stuffed the old one with electric tape until the new one arrived and that same day i got my refund for the inspection!

      I see some people do not understand what will happen if you mess with one of these cars. Here is a simple answer, THEY WILL BLOW UP.
      These cars are meant to be serviced by trained technicians. One wrong touch on a wire will cause your instant death, leaving you a sizzling mess on the floor. If you touch any of the wires together, you can fry the entire system or short them and cause a heck of a lot of damage.
      The main reason Tesla hates rich is because of this. If one of his cars blows up on the road or the autopilot starts acting weird and crashes the car, it will look really bad for Tesla. I’m sure some of you may have heard about some of the crashes on the road from Tesla’s, and news reporters saying that they might not be safe. Yet they never talk about the other thousand crashes that occur on the road from any other car brand.
      TLDR, this is bad publicity for Tesla if something goes wrong.

In my neck of the woods they have water catchment and wind farm or putting windmill on your house is all sanctioned by the utilities. Tesla is the same of the corporate utilities that bring about these rules or and or laws that we cannot do certain things.

    Tesla has missed a very important thing: GM, Ford, all the rest have their older model vehicles improved through enthusiasts modding them to suit themselves. Some of those improvements made their way into current ones. Mr. Musk needs to swallow his pride and use folks like Rich to improve and correct some of their screw ups which because folks like Rich are using their own cash, really costs Tesla NOTHING. Keep it up man!

    • @toddherron8778
      @toddherron8778 6 років тому +3

      Randy Eller that’s not the main issue. The Tesla is an extremely well known luxury car. It also happens to be powered by batteries, which makes it even more noticed by the public eye. If you ever watch the news, you may have seen them talk about a man who died while watching a movie and having the car on autopilot. This one crash made the headlines for weeks, and really hurt the Tesla brand. If one of Rich Rebuilds cars decide to blow up because he did something wrong, this would look really bad on Tesla. Similar to how the Samsung galaxy note 7 did. The reason Tesla does not support rebuilds is for this exact reason.
      Tldr, if his car blows up due to something he messes up, it would look really bad for Tesla.

      todd herron That's a problem with the public reaction and click bait news, not with being a mechanic. People used to fear driving cars because of the gasoline inside them. The public and manufactures found a way to mitigate that fear and make it safe. Similarly, manufacturers of cars like Tesla will need to find a way to make it easier, safer, and accessible to fix vehicles; whether that's car owners or certified repair shops not owned Tesla.
