Hey chris, i'm Canadian. I really want to thank you for sharing those tips even though i cannot make use of them. Not everyone wants to share their money making methods (Buy, Rebuild, Sell, Profit) but since you are doing for hobby, thank you again!!!
(24:06) I love how you talk positive about companies that you like, and dont talk negative about those grumpies. Even though there is no Copart in my country, I learned a lot about this game by watching this video.
Hey Chris! Thanks for the encouragement man. Ive always bought cars with mechanical problems to fix and flip, Im just more comfortable in that area. I have however, had to fix collision damage on cars Ive owned and damaged, or helped friends fix etc. You have now encouraged me to look for cars from copart to fix and flip. Cant wait to get my feet wet. Great channel, thanks for the great vids and advice.
Thank you so much for this video. Trying to buy a car for the transmission and now know that it's a car most won't be able to fix for the damage. Just what I need!
So I basicly learned today that there is a copart website for Germany... So instead of beeing broke I will now save all my money, get the long time wanted first project car and will be broke with a project car. :D But seriously: Fantastic to know that there is a Germany site. Thanks for this video Chris!
I buy from copart in N. Ireland and have never gone to view any of them, just had a really good look at the pictures, which are normally very good, so far it has worked well.
Great video Chris!!! I have been subscribed to you for a long time now and I remember when you put out the other Co-part video and its actually pretty funny because I just re-watched that video about two hours ago because I have been looking into buying a project car from there and this video actually helps. So thank you so much and I honestly hope that I can one day meet you and see one or some of your projects in person because you have been such an inspiration on me to start to do my first actual project car. Thanks again for the great content in all of your videos!!!!
People are all mad because of the sponsor video. If I helps Chris get cars to make videos and buy parts to make these videos then I am all for one or two a month
Its an extra video too, its not like its harming anything else.. sometimes people just gonna hate, but its all good, im happy to be building relationships with some of these really awesome companies. I have pipe dreams of being able to do some roadkill style episodes where we buy cars at auction and do challenges with them, and obv working with copart is great for that idea
Would you recommend this to a person who has like a couple months of driving under their belt like a 16 or 17 year old, and that want a project car. Would this be a great idea? Oh i found out their was a lot 3 hours away from me lol in Moncton.
Not if the lot is 3 hours away. For a first car you really should check it out in person. You'd probably be better off finding a fixer-upper on Craigslist. At least then you can talk to the owner to try and find out what's wrong.
Its good to check title type or status as well...some cars are branded as parts only or title of destruction which I think means you can get it cheap but will have a really hard time registering for the road. As far as I know anyway.
Copart in the UK works the same way for the most part, you are required to send in proof of address as well as your drivers licence, there is a £50 membership fee but you do not require a deposit. An individual can buy any vehicle so long as it is not a cat B (breaker). There are fee's that is how they make money they do not own the vehicle's they just sell them all auction houses work the same way in that regard.
Good tips. Disregard the stopping by thing as I put in my original post. Thought you had a big shop that I could drop by but privacy is everything. Otherwise I wouldn't mind meeting up somewhere for a cup of mud. No worries either way but I'm usually in the US for a few weeks per year. Sandbox stuff. Thx
my uncle bought my dad a truck from copart and it has electrical issues, the catalitic converters are plugged up and the check engine light is on..... it also has a 4 different tires and rims. he has also bought several Porsches, mercedes' and a few economy cars and they've all required ALOT to get them in good running condition. despite seeming "good" and being deemed as cars with "minor dents/scratches"
it stated that there was damaged in the rear, and there is, it was sideswiped in the bed nothing major but idk man, they obviously are just trying to make a sale
E70X5M ohhh yeah thats the problem with those motors not having dipsticks, iDrive was never reliable sometimes it told me I had low oil sometimes it was all the way up it made no sense... I always topped off since i was leaking from the valve cover, oil pan, oil filter housing and oil cooler. I used to wrench for hours on that thing. I actually kinda miss it tbh when the N52 ran it screamed up to 7k rpm like a baus. Sorry for your loss though
It's best to buy in-state if you can so you only pay sales tax to Copart on the purchase price of the vehicle. If you buy it out of state and bring it into your state, you will pay sales tax on the actual/assessed value of the vehicle and this can be a substantial difference.
Who do you use for insurance? I remember you saying who it was in a video but cannot find it. And do you know of a financial institution that loans on salvage vehicles?
When a car has a salvaged title and after the car is fixed, how do you go about getting a new title? By the way, love your channel and have learned a lot from it. Chuck
You mentioned about parting out a car and how they want to make sure your not just buying a car to part out; what is their policy on that? I'm looking to buy an rsx type s to get the engine/trans/other donor parts to put in my civic but I don't need the rest of the car. I live in Arizona, so is that what the "no license needed" tag is for? Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm loving the evora videos, makes me wish I had a better budget....
I live in TN so I would be going to nashville yard this process is very confusing I registered but from what your saying I can't go and buy anything by myself so idk how to start
Thx for the video. Very informative. After you buy a car at the auction how do I get transit plates for that car (salvage title) so I can drive it home from another state? Like you did in BRZ restoration video.
Great video Chris. Just curious, how are you tracking prices? I add cars to my wishlist but they disappear once they come up for auction. Makes it tough to research price ranges. Or is there another way to see completed auctions?
How much did you pay for the Mustang? I'm looking to buy a 05-09 Mustang GT and want to know what would be a good deal on it. What is your opinion on water/flood damaged cars. I mainly want to use it for a parts car so as long as the engine runs, transmission is good, driveshaft and rear axel works and the gauge cluster works would I be alright with a flood damaged car or should I look for one that was a wreck and salvage the parts I need.
I found my truck listed on copart. Long story short, I inherited it from my dad, I couldn't afford to fix it, I got my insurance payout and placed a bid on it. It's a pure sale, so as long as I'm the highest bidder I'll get it? Or does it go to live bid after the online bid?
I hate it in my state... Virginia. Have to be a dealer to buy ANYTHING from Co-part. But reading blow someone complained of the fees. And after looking closer I agree. The fee ARE RIDICULOUS. You buy a $400 car be ready to pay $600+ in fees!!! Fees for dumb stuff like internet bidding fees and a fee for just picking the car up! Fees are practically doubled with Co-part auction fees and then a second just as big transaction fee. What the hell kind of crap shoot is this????
TheFrontYardMechanic yeah, I'm thinking of bidding in the n.c. auction to avoid the broker. Not sure how an out of state salvage title would work, whether va. would accept it.
I just wrecked my s2000 and need both my rear quarters replaced. I am wanting to find a shell and just transfer all of my parts instead of having the whole back rebuilt. I have looked at the site but don't see any just shells do they have an area for something like that?
Have you ever had a car catch fire when you connected a jump pack to it? Would COPART hold YOU liable if the wiring started smoking when you used a Jump pack to evaluate a car?
B is for Build Hey, as someone who's driven a lot of low-end sports cars, how's the BRZ fare in quality of driving? It seems to be a great platform for both performance and and cosmetic upgrades (and come on, those RB kits are just dirty). So is there another car you'd pick over the BRZ as a daily? One that's sub-$30,000?
So there is a Copart location in the town where I live in the North of England... how did I now know about this? Literally a two minute walk from my house.
Chris, where'd you get the shock mount and arm for your blue yeti pro? I need one for mine and I can't find anything good in Aus "not car related though"
I live like 2 miles from a Copart yard. They just keep expanding the thing. They finally put a high enough wall up, so that you couldn't see all the cars from the road.
Is every car on copart been involved in an accident even if the doc type shows clear? If you buy a clear title car but it has been in an accident, then you try to sell this car, will the bank that is giving the loan less likely to give a loan if the car was in an accident even though it is a clear title?
What about hail damage? I am new to Copart; 'am waiting to see what hail damaged cars go for; 'assuming big bucks, but it seems like a good deal for me.... (I have teen drivers and tend to drive cars until they die)... Would you buy a hail-damaged car with 10,000 miles and hail damage?
So what if they messed up the listing saying there was keys and there wasn't, and I was the winning bidder do you think they would cancel it if I didn't want it?
+Hyrule_Knight unless you're good with electrical, then actually look for them. For instance i know the brz system pretty well by now, id be happy to find a flood damaged one
What could water damage do if the dash and everything works? I'm looking at a 4 and 5 series on compart and one I'm inlove with is marked flood/water damage but from the pictures the digital dash works but yeah. I'll look more into the electrical of the car
Well just think about everything that water can do thats bad and thats the possibilities. Rust, mold, electrical damage. Pretty much it, now if you see it and the electrical works, maybe its not damaged, or maybe its on the verge of breaking.. i duno its hard to tell, but if you are confident with your skills for fixing electrical its probably safe enough. Just think about it like buying any other electrical device that got wet.
You'd have to check the laws in your area. Where I live....well I believe country wide (Canada) a flood damaged car is no longer register-able, the car could be perfectly fine (say a parked car that got flood damage) but by default they'll black list the vin. If I were to buy a flood damaged car I'd need to swap the vin# plus fix anything wrong and if I was caught I'd be facing jail time.
Good luck Copart just stopped selling and allowing access to anyone who is not a certified and licensed dealer or exporter. With required proof of export and sales.
Please buy and fix something from the Volkswagen Group like an Audi A6 allroad! That would be such a welcome step away from all the usual JDM cars and BMW's that most UA-cam channels are featuring at the moment!
autobidmaster is a pile of shit. DO NOT USE THEM. The person on the phone placed a bid for me without my permission and would not retract it even though I was on the phone with them right then.
I saw the title and I was like "No... That's not... is that sponsored?"
Clicked it, sponsored. I'm really proud of you, man!
Colby Murphy came a long way
Every other UA-cam channel: Eww this video was sponsored, get that shit out of here. This channel: Proud of you!
ThierryTheuns Exactly what I was thinking haha
Hey chris, i'm Canadian. I really want to thank you for sharing those tips even though i cannot make use of them. Not everyone wants to share their money making methods (Buy, Rebuild, Sell, Profit) but since you are doing for hobby, thank you again!!!
My first car was a 2009 Cobalt SS that was a theft recovery. Got it for $4,000 and the only damage was a dent on the door from the crowbar.
(24:06) I love how you talk positive about companies that you like, and dont talk negative about those grumpies. Even though there is no Copart in my country, I learned a lot about this game by watching this video.
Damn you Chris, damn you. You are tempting me to drop my project and pick up a wrecked Viper, B is for Build style. Damn you!
+mdoe8 where is it? i'll help solve that problem 😁
Where is the Viper? Didn't pay attention to location, it's on copart though. The black one.
im gonna try n buy it and make it my "beginners" drift car :p
You should just buy my car, it will be significantly more rare around a drift circuit than a Viper as there are zero builds like mine :)
Hey man, I assume that your project is the one on your channel, if so then you got a nice project there. Good luck with it
Pure sell is not always "high bid wins", read the fine print. Copart can change at anytime the status from Pure Sell to reserve bid at the end.
Chris appreciate this video. Actually looked at copart to purchase a donor car. So I am glad you explained it in more detail
The fees on copart are ridiculous, I bought a car for $400 the total price ended up being $1150 never using copart again
Smajo Lelak find someone with a dealers license to help u buy it should be way cheaper
Smajo Lelak 1150 for a car is still cheap
No the car was a pos I sold it for 1000
Smajo Lelak then sounds like you need to find better cars to invest your money in guy
Well if the fees weren't more than what the car sold for maybe I would have made some money...............................
Often the ones I pre-bid on that are "Pure Sale" will all of a sudden change to "minimum bid" when it is scheduled for auction.
Thank you so much for this video. Trying to buy a car for the transmission and now know that it's a car most won't be able to fix for the damage. Just what I need!
I got my srt 4 from copart, and i think its the best first car i could have gotten and it was super cheap and highly recommended it!!
This channel is going to grow very quickly because of the great content
So I basicly learned today that there is a copart website for Germany... So instead of beeing broke I will now save all my money, get the long time wanted first project car and will be broke with a project car. :D
But seriously: Fantastic to know that there is a Germany site. Thanks for this video Chris!
Update: Bad news is.. There are exactly 70 cars for sale on the whole site. Damn! :D
I buy from copart in N. Ireland and have never gone to view any of them, just had a really good look at the pictures, which are normally very good, so far it has worked well.
Great video Chris!!! you already made this video.
retrotellephone if u watch the video he says that and he wanted to redo the video
Gurjot Bhogal already watched it like 6 months ago
retrotellephone if you watch THIS video he states he wanted to redo the video
i literally slapped my screen at your profile picture
i did not know B is for Vlog.
Cody Audiss B is for sponsorship
+Trapping Bobby LOL
People are all mad because of the sponsor video. If I helps Chris get cars to make videos and buy parts to make these videos then I am all for one or two a month

5:01 What a sweet soul
Would be a good idea: except I don't see any options for Australia, where I live.
I can't thank you enough for making this video, it's really helped me out. Loving your channel and content.
I signed up for copart and got super excited to find a project. But in mass we are not allowed to bid!
Would you recommend this to a person who has like a couple months of driving under their belt like a 16 or 17 year old, and that want a project car. Would this be a great idea? Oh i found out their was a lot 3 hours away from me lol in Moncton.

Chris, check out your exposure - just as a tip! Cool follow-up on copart! I might actually check out copart and look at importing to Belgium now!
Thanks for the info Chris!
Copart in the UK works the same way for the most part, you are required to send in proof of address as well as your drivers licence, there is a £50 membership fee but you do not require a deposit. Unless I missed it still waiting on the B is for build Portland meet up
Darren Campana I'm waiting too
Wait theres a portland meet up? When??
typical frontend developer, has the chrome development tools open whilst browsing haha!
cant slip anything past you guys these days :p
Good tips. Disregard the stopping by thing as I put in my original post. Thought you had a big shop that I could drop by but privacy is everything. This is super useful.
My wallet and my wife are terrified.
my uncle bought my dad a truck from copart and it has electrical issues, the catalitic converters are plugged up and the check engine light is on..... it also has a 4 different tires and rims.
he has also bought several Porsches, mercedes' and a few economy cars and they've all required ALOT to get them in good running condition. despite seeming "good" and being deemed as cars with "minor dents/scratches"
Boots N Pants it's a salvaged car expect the worst
it stated that there was damaged in the rear, and there is, it was sideswiped in the bed nothing major but idk man, they obviously are just trying to make a sale
I bought a 2010 bmw 5 series from Copart 6 years ago last week the engine seized :(
E70X5M that sounds like you fuck it up. You neglected on maintenance.
FishFind3000 nope happened 2 weeks after an oil change my guess is oil drain built wasn't tightened and it leaked oil but no signs came up so idk
N52 motor? Yeah, i had an E60 5 series too, leaked oil from every crevice of the engine. Sold it and bought a car new instead
Draco Malformed yep n52 unfortunately it didn't say my oil was low and it broke down on the way back from Starbucks
Sam G would you pay that tax when you try to register it, or at copart?

When a car has a salvaged title and after the car is fixed, how do you go about getting a new title? By the way, love your channel and have learned a lot from it. Chuck
The Dmv will give you a rs title, which means restored salvage. No way to get a salvage title to clean ever again.
Do you have to register the car after you buy it if your just using it for parts?
Each state is different, but not in oregon, and not in most states.
I took a friend to a Pick-A-Part lot and she was traumatized at all of the cars and the condition of the wreckage. LOL
Chris, how did you get the car back home from Washington? Get it towed or you tow it urself?
You mentioned about parting out a car and how they want to make sure your not just buying a car to part out; what is their policy on that? I'm looking to buy an rsx type s to get the engine/trans/other donor parts to put in my civic but I don't need the rest of the car. What do you think about hail damage vehicles
Super helpful guide!
You mentioned vandalized,. I'm guessing it must be on the car discrip screen.. What if any have your interactions been with IAAH or erepairables ?
I live in TN so I would be going to nashville yard this process is very confusing I registered but from what your saying I can't go and buy anything by myself so idk how to start
Hi Chris,
How do you find out if the car is being sold through insurance?
I would love a project, but don't know what the hell I'm doing. How do you learn to build cars? Just try and if you fail learn from it?
Can you go in person and look around the lot without having an account or anything?
Very useful info thank you!

great vids keep em coming
Have you ever had a car catch fire when you connected a jump pack to it?
Would COPART hold YOU liable if the wiring started smoking when you used a Jump pack to evaluate a car?
HEY COPART IF YOU SEE THIS INCLUDE US HERE IN PUERTO RICO THERE'S TONS OF WRECKS
Can you bring an OBS scanner? I can do suspension work, but I've never touched serious engine repairs.
err... OBD-II scanner?
Yes, apologies!
stay away from copart if you never done autobody it will be an expensive lesson for you
Give the yard a call, but im pretty sure you can
B is for Build Hey, as someone who's driven a lot of low-end sports cars, how's the BRZ fare in quality of driving?
It seems to be a great platform for both performance and and cosmetic upgrades (and come on, those RB kits are just dirty). So is there another car you'd pick over the BRZ as a daily? One that's sub-$30,000?
That over exposure though. Love the videos.
So there is a Copart location in the town where I live in the North of England... how did I now know about this? Literally a two minute walk from my house.
370z would of been great addition to your lot. and you will get alot of subscribers working on that
Chris, where'd you get the shock mount and arm for your blue yeti pro? I need one for mine and I can't find anything good in Aus "not car related though"
Xeru Rodriguize You pretty much have to get an official mount for it to fit. Since the Yeti is so big.
damn it, its so expensive for there stuff lol
I made my own, i just bought a cheap one from ebay and then bent some metal around and threw some bolts in it and its good.
Great video...
Copart They have location in montreal too!!
Thanks!!!
For how much did the brz go for ? . I am currently looking for one (standard trans)
i bought 15 cars from copart already and im looking to buy a 2015 acura tlx
Any kind of business license?? If i have a business (and business license) as a barber...is that a business license?
I live like 2 miles from a Copart yard. They just keep expanding the thing. They finally put a high enough wall up, so that you couldn't see all the cars from the road.
Is every car on copart been involved in an accident even if the doc type shows clear? If you buy a clear title car but it has been in an accident, then you try to sell this car, will the bank that is giving the loan less likely to give a loan if the car was in an accident even though it is a clear title?
Interesting that Alaska and Alabama have the same state abbreviations according to Copart's map....
What about hail damage? I am new to Copart; 'am waiting to see what hail damaged cars go for; 'assuming big bucks, but it seems like a good deal for me.... (I have teen drivers and tend to drive cars until they die)... Would you buy a hail-damaged car with 10,000 miles and hail damage?
didnt you already do this?
can you buy parts off the cars from copart or is it an all or nothing deal?
love this video i work at yard 141 recumend this for enyone trying to git into it
So what if they messed up the listing saying there was keys and there wasn't, and I was the winning bidder do you think they would cancel it if I didn't want it?
did you win the 2016 fairly?
Where do you get your parts from?
water/flood damage? stay away?
+Hyrule_Knight unless you're good with electrical, then actually look for them. For instance i know the brz system pretty well by now, id be happy to find a flood damaged one

what about water flood car? are they worth it?
can you speak to subframe / undercarriage damage?
Good luck Copart just stopped selling and allowing access to anyone who is not a certified and licensed dealer or exporter. With required proof of export and sales.
my suggestion on brokers is autobidmaster or dashub
Supra build? 😱😱😱😱 YES PLEASE!!
im confused kinda. so are you paying 10% of what the car sells for or is that just for the deposit?
ewok and kb as I understand it that's commission, then you have online bid fee, c.c. fee, and gate fee on top.
I've bought 5 cars from Copart. 3 from my state California and 2 from Philadelphia
At 6.10 what price would you put on it ? give or take "10%". ;)
Wonder how much they paid him to make this video - still a solid explanation though
If it allows Chris to keep on making content then it's all good.
what about flooded vehicles?
Cristian Casas don't buy
Cristian Casas
Don't buy flood damaged cars unless you intend on taking the entire car apart and basically rebuilding it from scratch.
Tommy-Lee Armstrong if it’s run and drive ?
These are one of the subjects I keep to myself. I don't want to much competition.
Love this guy
Damn your channel blew up
hi im canada, if i bought a car in usa how can i get the care
Please buy and fix something from the Volkswagen Group like an Audi A6 allroad! That would be such a welcome step away from all the usual JDM cars and BMW's that most UA-cam channels are featuring at the moment!
Just found an Audi S4 on Pure Sale that literally already has the repairs it needs marked on it.
does anyone know if there is anything like this in australia?
autobidmaster is a pile of shit. DO NOT USE THEM. The person on the phone placed a bid for me without my permission and would not retract it even though I was on the phone with them right then.
but i live in BC Canada and i get screwed getting an Alberta car :(
The fees seem insane...
@ Op
Thanks for the info bro.
Isn't giving people the info on your drivers license extremely dangerous?
