Paul Rodgers needed to have been in the Rock Hall of Fame like 10 years ago. He's one of the only artists ever to have a top 5 hit song with 4 different bands. Free, Bad Co., The Firm and The Law. he's a legend!
Paul Kossoff was the lead guitarist. One of the most underrated of all time. After Free Broke up he slid into drugs and eventually killed him. But that song will be one of his best!
The RRHF is corporate crap, Joan Jett is in there yet BAD CO. Isn't and they charge band members who are inducted outrageous sums of money to sit there 😢
Thanks guys ... I was just a teenager when this came out... Every band I ever jammed with did this song... so good and we take it for granted... Paul Rogers deserves same respect we give Plant, McCartney, Rod Steward etc... He is a Top Ten Classic Rock Frontman for sure... Thumbs up, great reaction!
I’m a 71 yr old (in my daughter’s words) “burnt out old hippie.” This song and Mississippi Queen are the 2 greatest rock singles of all time. Both are simple, straightforward, no frills, badass songs. 🤣🤣
One of the most soulful voices in Rock music, along with Robert Plant, and Steve Marriott. When he started "Bad Company" then people really started to see what vocals this man had. Thanks guys.
ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR Classics:: Spirit "I Got A Line On You" & Nature's Way",, Argent "Hold Your Head Up" & Head East "Never Been Any Reason"...TRUST ME my music lovin' brothers.
Paul Rodgers, the same vocalist singing Burnin Sky (by Bad Company) that you loved so much! One of a kind & huge song, in so many movies/tv shows etc. Timeless.
If he'd lived I'm sure Paul Kossof would have been regarded as one of the all time great guitarists. He didn't quite make the 27 club like his hero Hendrix, he died aged 26.
Also, it's not often that a song from a male rock band empowers the girl in the story this much. Loved it! She was sassy! Then, at the end..."we're so happy together."
I just listened to an interview with Joe Bonamasso. The question was top 5 solos every guitarist should learn. Paul Kossoff, lead guitarist for Free and later Bad Company, made his list. I was surprised until I pulled out this 1970 classic and it all came rushing back. What a great song to kick off an amazing decade of music. Peace
I am 66 years old and to this very day that guitar work is still my all time favorite, especially the solo which moves my soul and rests heavy on my "feels", if you know what I mean. Blues Rock at it's finest!
Paul Rogers the singer & Simon Kirk the drummer later went on to form the group Bad Company. Paul is considered by many as the best Rock Vocalist ever. Just as a side note he appeared on the Four Tops anniversary special a few years back & performed two of their songs. Being a big Four Tops fan this was the best of both Worlds.
Paul Rodgers has one of greatest Rock Voices of all. I have seen him solo and with Bad Company. The Guitarist was Paul Kossoff, a great Guitarist, however he died in 1976. 😢
In the UK in the early 70's these guys were THE band. Eric Clapton once asked Paul Kossoff the guitarist how he got his sustain. The bass player at 15 was in John Mayall's band - the guru of British blues - many famous guitar players were in that band including Clapton, Mick Taylor and the legendary Peter Green. Another great British band is the Climax Blues Band maybe check out their Couldn't Get It Right their hit single but they were mainly an album band. All my guitar friends who've seen them say they are frighteningly good live.
Thanks guys. Imagine a young guy in a musical vacuum trying to get over the Beatles giving up? This track opened my ears to others in the magical 70s. Floyd, Queen, Led Zepp, and later Genesis and Supertramp.
Paul Kossoff was the co-founder and guitarist of Free. He died aged 25 of a pulmonary embolism on a flight from LA to NY. His body was returned to London where he was buried.
I finally got to see Paul Rodgers live in August 2019 with Bad Company. He was just a few months shy of his 70th birthday and his voice sound just as strong as it did when this album was recorded. He is n amazing vocalist/frontman.
Paul Rogers was in a group called The Firm with Jimmy Page. They put out 2 albums & had a song on the radio called Radioactive. I was lucky to catch them on tour. Rogers also joined with Queen. Just called Paul Rogers & Queen. They were really good.
This song is sooooo much more than the hook, which indeed is overused. And you’re right that each element is rather simple on their own, but completely change when combined into the funkiest classic rock tune ever. I never made the connection with State Of Shock before, but it definitely takes some inspiration from this. Fantastic record and reaction 🥰
There is a 1970 live version here on YT by this amazing band with almost 10 million views. From it, you quickly grasp how absolutely tight they were. And at such young ages. One has to wonder what more treasure we'd have enjoyed from guitarist, Kossof, if he'd remained in Earth orbit much longer with us.
Used to sing background for this song with my bestie in high school down in drummer's basement. Truly played by every garage/basement band when it came out.
A lot of times, simple is the best. One of my favorite vocalist and bands right there. Y'all gotta check out some more of their tunes. Fire and Water, Mr.Big and one of my favorites, Seven Angels are great tunes. There's a video on UA-cam of an old live performance of the song Mr. Big that's really good. Of course the vocalist Paul Rodgers, went on to sing in Bad Company, the Firm (with Jimmy Page) and Queen. He has a tribute to Muddy Waters album that's worth a listen. It features Rodgers on vocals, and a lot of different famous guitarists accompanying him on each song. The song Rollin Stone, featuring Jeff Beck, is badass. And Standing Round Crying with David Gilmore is also.
This band is a British rock band formed in 1969 they are one of the first blues-rock bands to emerge from this time period, it's incredible that all the band members were so young but had some very profound lyrics for such youthful souls. They have a pretty good collection to discover; their discography consists of six studio albums, two live albums, 18 compilation albums, one EP and 16 singles along with two video albums....so a lot more to check out and discover, if you enjoy listening to their tunes. Here's one of the songs from their debut album, if interested. "Free - Walk In My Shadow - 1969" (by the channel: Tom Kane) --This is from the album "Tons Of Sobs" while the album failed to chart in the UK, it reached 172 in the US.
What an iconic jam released in 1970 from Free. It ended up being a one hit wonder for the group before they disbanded in 73. It's a killer tune that never grows old. One of many awesome hits that started the 70's. Excellent reaction gentlemen.
Great song. It took me back to when I was a teenager. Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. I'm proud to share my birthday (Dec. 17) with two great singers: Paul Rodgers and Eddie Kendricks. LOL
Paul Kossoff's main guitar solo is one of the most perfect I've ever heard. The tone is exquisite, it builds perfectly, and every note counts. His rhythm playing is pretty tasty too. The rhythm section are impeccable, no overplaying. And Paul Rodgers has one of *the* great rock voices, effortlessly bluesy and soulful.
Darlins, Paul Rodgers got the pipes, he's in another what is now considered a supergroup, Bad Company,..that soulful, hard rock delivery by Free, and Bad Company, and I think on the album cover you have up, that's Paul in the lower left corner,...so young, belting out these vocals,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
The best band ever in my opinion. The Song was written when they were 16 years old. Wish I'd written a song as good as that in 1970 that's still being played now. When Free played this at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970 they couldn't have imagined it would still be played. Don't overstate Paul Kossoff's guitar work, crisp and concise as it always was. Andy Fraser's bass and Simon Kirke's drumming held this band together in the same way that John Paul Jones and John Bonham did for Led Zep. Paul Rodgers vocals are superb on this song arrogant and strutting just like Rock N roll should be..
Great song! Great riff, great drumming, great singing, great bass, awesome hook and tremendous chorus! One of those songs where most in my generation can sing every word, play air guitar note and every drum fill. Great interlude too!
Free!!! ❤ Seeing Paul Rogers is on my bucket list. Had tickets to see him in Kansas City but he got sick and canceled 😢 Free has been My jam for years! Thanks for warming up this Cold Friday. Temps dropped 30 degrees overnight 🥶 Appreciate y'all's choices today.
I saw Bad Company May 1979 Kemper Arena Kansas City. And then had the privilege of seeing Paul Rodgers with Jimmy Page in the band they formed together The Firm, May 1986 Kemper Arena K.C. Great performances.
This song was on repeat when I was in High school. Then when we would go out, every band played this song and would fill the dance floor. I still love this song. Paul Rogers is one of the best vocalists of the time. He went on to Bad Company. They were the first band signed by Swan Song, LED Zeppelin’s label.
Songs in the 70s had super recognizable peak moments that stood out as a signature. You heard those high notes from that guitar solo and it was unmistakable. The hooks today don't blaze the same way IMHO.
This tune is from their third lp, released in 1970. It laid the minimalist foundation for Bad Company. Another Free favourite of mine is Wishing Well from their sixth and final lp Heartbreaker, released in January 1973.
The Michael Jackson & Mick Jagger song was State of Shock. And after almost 50 years on this earth I never once thought they sounded similar, but I'll be damned, once you pointed it out I heard it immediately. Good ear.
Wow, what a throwback! I was preparing myself for my last year in HS, and life after i got drafted! Goes to show that the folks who run the RRHOF are dolts or political hacks or both! Loved the reaction, I look for y’all daily! Keep rockin!

Rogers (and Free) is on the same Jan Wenner blacklist as, eg, Arthur Lee and Love.
Paul Kossoff was the lead guitarist. One of the most underrated of all time. After Free Broke up he slid into drugs and eventually killed him. But that song will be one of his best!
I think he was in Queen for a while too.
@@324cmac He was, but failed to have a top 5 hit with Queen though.
The RRHF is corporate crap, Joan Jett is in there yet BAD CO. Isn't and they charge band members who are inducted outrageous sums of money to sit there 😢
Incredible song given that the drummer & the vocalist were 20 years old, the guitarist was 19 & the bass player was 17. Amazing talent!
There have been a lot of great musicians who were very young.
Can’t go wrong with Paul Rodgers singing
One of those songs that you might, over the decades, grow tired of - like it's "all played out" - but no, it NEVER gets old. A timeless classic.
So true!
Our Highschool dances had a Great Band( Tumbling Dice) who played this tune at every dance❤ great times🎉🎉🎉
One of the best rock n roll songs ever recorded. Paul Roger’s voice IS rock.
I’m a 71 yr old (in my daughter’s words) “burnt out old hippie.” This song and Mississippi Queen are the 2 greatest rock singles of all time. Both are simple, straightforward, no frills, badass songs. 🤣🤣
It is a solid gold banger. Always was, always will be fire! I love the rawness of Paul Rodgers vocals.
One of the most soulful voices in Rock music, along with Robert Plant, and Steve Marriott. When he started "Bad Company" then people really started to see what vocals this man had.
Thanks guys.
The cowbell is everything

Another throw away song written in ten minutes that somehow became a huge hit. Incredibly well-produced with excellent vocals by Rodgers.
Yep, just another song on another day way back when. And it was perfect
Paul Rodgers, the same vocalist singing Burnin Sky (by Bad Company) that you loved so much! One of a kind & huge song, in so many movies/tv shows etc. Timeless.
A rock anthem on the Hotel California, Stairway level.. sung by the greatest rock singer ever. Yes #1.
One of the best bluesy rock voices of all time.
I have always loved this song. A real classic. 🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶👍
Sounds just as good as it did when it first came out in 1970!
Absolutely!
Chords & rhythm was one of the first rock songs I learned. 💜💜💜
The 17 year old bass player co -wrote this song. The others are probably 20 years old. So much talent in that band.
If he'd lived I'm sure Paul Kossof would have been regarded as one of the all time great guitarists. He didn't quite make the 27 club like his hero Hendrix, he died aged 26.
He didn't even make it to 26, actually, he was just 25.
Paul Rodgers is the singer. He also sung for Bad Company.
This is a top 10 on my list. Loved it when i was a teen ager. Love it in my 60s.
agreed👍
Also, it's not often that a song from a male rock band empowers the girl in the story this much. Loved it! She was sassy! Then, at the end..."we're so happy together."

Thank you for a great reaction. maybe next ,Humble Pie - 30 Days In The Hole.
OMG this is one from the sound track of my life🔥🔥🔥🔥
this and I Just Want to Celebrate for me
This was the first song that every garage band of the 70’s learned .Great Banger lots of radio play.
same
Iron Man but this was one
I am 66 years old and to this very day that guitar work is still my all time favorite, especially the solo which moves my soul and rests heavy on my "feels", if you know what I mean. Blues Rock at it's finest!
68 here. Love this song. I teach fitness/aerobics classes. I have it on my playlist for teaching!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😆
One of the best voices in Rock and Roll.

Just as a side note he appeared on the Four Tops anniversary special a few years back & performed two of their songs. Being a big Four Tops fan this was the best of both Worlds.
Lead vocalist Paul Rodgers is amazing!! He was lead singer for Bad Company as well as two others who also had number one hits with him singing lead🎶🎵
Paul Rodgers has one of greatest Rock Voices of all. I have seen him solo and with Bad Company. The Guitarist was Paul Kossoff, a great Guitarist, however he died in 1976. 😢
That's Paul Rodgers (of Bad Company) on vocals and the great Paul Kossoff on guitar, who died tragically young.
No
That's Paul Rogers. Of Free.
You could at least spell his name right for your lame joke.
I love Paul Rodgers. He went on to form Bad Company. Dripping with talent. This song is a classic.
In the UK in the early 70's these guys were THE band. Eric Clapton once asked Paul Kossoff the guitarist how he got his sustain. Rodgers is just oozing soul, what a singer.

You guys are great, playing the music I grew up on. The 70s had the best music ever made.
Paul Kossof became immortalized with this song. Died way too young-RIP
One of the greatest vocalists in rock history.

Banger 🔥🔥🔥 Loved his voice, timing, ad libs and just a great love/ rock song. Heavy rotation on the radio.
Free gets overlooked these days, but they were a great band and deserve to get some more exposure.
It’s a kick ass classic!
Legendary track.
Fresh as it was in the early 70's

Paul Rogers, also the lead singer for bad company and filled in for Queen.
Fire and Water is amazing... perfectly describes a relationship with a difficult woman.
There is no mistaking the voice of Paul Rodgers !!! Later the Lead singer for Bad Company. Needs to be in the Rock & Roll HOF.
Paul Kossof! One of the original “burst brothers”! Guitarists have been chasing his tone for decades!
Peace😊
This is what you call Rock and Roll for sure
Paul Kossoff's main guitar solo is one of the most perfect I've ever heard. The tone is exquisite, it builds perfectly, and every note counts. His rhythm playing is pretty tasty too. I saw Bad Company May 1979 Kemper Arena Kansas City.
And then had the privilege of seeing Paul Rodgers with Jimmy Page in the band they formed together The Firm, May 1986 Kemper Arena K.C. Great performances.
The song is 53 years old and it still smashes it out of the park.!

I agree great great song. Big hit way back.
Another banger back in high school. Still rocks today. ✌️❤️🎶
Top ten male vocalist of all time. Bluesy, rockin, phrasing is perfect, tone, he has it all.
Paul Rogers. One of the greatest rock and roll vocalists ever.

Paul Rodgers, the voice of rock ‘n roll! This song had played on FM radio for many decades since the 1960’s!
What a classic 👏
There was so much more soul in the 60's and 70's music, no matter the color you are. This jas a lot of soul in it. Great reaction guys!!!

That song with Michael and Mick is “State of Shock”. Definitely similar.
Timeless classic. This jam is still played on the radio.
Ohhh haven't heard this in a while, my old man played this for me for years!
