Besides Paul Rodgers being one of the greatest singers of all time I'm surprised you guys didn't mention the solo. Paul Kossoff used to build these great solos with fantastic vibrato and tone. When Free opened for Blind Faith on their American tour in 1969, Clapton asked Kossoff to show him how he got such great vibrato. Great Praise indeed. Try listening to Mr. Big, Fire & Water and Wishing Well from Free. They were only a one hit wonder in the US. They were huge in the UK.
Free played at our high school during a school assembly while on tour in Pittsburgh with Traffic. A music promoter's child went to our school and he got Free to play for us. They played this song.
"Let's move before they raise the parking rate." Looove that line! This is a quintessential, sunny day, wind in your hair, driving song. Glad you have opened the door to Paul Rodgers. Next try "Shooting Star" or "Bad Company." Happy Monday, gang!
@M 40 I had not heard the album version for a long time, and I agree, it does drag out. Radio edit version that you hear on classic rock station seems to be about the right length.
@M 40 Agree. That middle section with the great bass, the piano, the guitar building up -- it does a great job of raising the tension, but then fails (in my opinion) to capitalize on it. It sets the stage, but doesn't provide the emotional release. Still a great song, and Paul Rodgers is one of the great rock singers, not quite Daltrey or Plant, but just one level down.
I love that line too, and when he tells her to slow it down, make love last, huh and she says "love? Lord above, are you trying to put me in love", it so sounds like someone's real experience, especially in the 70's, can picture the movie Serpico, Midnight Cowboy, The 7 Ups, that gritty, hard 70's. Paul can sing ok, the boy has pipes, Peace ✌
Guys, this was Free's one big radio hit in the U.S. (they were British), but they were a very respected bluesy hard-rock band in their time. Their three signature elements were Paul Rodgers' powerful singing, Paul Kossoff's stinging, raunchy, skronky Les Paul guitar tone, and the fact that many of their songs had that deliberate, restrained, "walking" blues pace (kids today would call it "slow"). Another good Free song for you to try is "Fire and Water", and then certainly go on to Paul Rodgers' next band, Bad Company, and their first, smash, hit, "Can't Get Enough". Cheers.
Those vocals, Paul Rodgers, EPIC!!! Paul was the voice for Bad Company too, another stellar band. That soul blues vibe that began with Free. You'll get lost in the sauce for sure. Bad Company songs to listen to, so many, "Seagull", "Silver Blue and Gold", "Bad Company", Feel Like Makin Love", the list goes on and on. Can't wait to see your reactions to Bad Company.
Or try Head East's "Man I Wanna Be" or "Jefftown Creek". "Never Been Any Reason" was the longest played song in the movie, Dazed + Confused, as well. (Shotgun!). Lmao!
One of my oldest sister’s favorite songs!!! And she loves Little Willy too!! She was the first one in my family to like the Cars too!! I Love both my sisters and my brother so much!! I really miss them right now with this Coronavirus crap going on!
Steve Bailen Maybe they’ve already heard it. I can’t imagine any guitarist not knowing who Joe Walsh is, but then again, I’m old and there are a lot of great guitarists out there. My apologies to the guys if they haven’t. I don’t mean to sound pretentious in any way. It’s just that there is no other guitar player like Joe Walsh. I think it’s the great playing combined with the facial expressions and the raspy voice.
The higher pitched clicking sound that you thought was a cowbell is actually a pair of claves. Basically, two wooden dowels about an inch thick. One is held in one hand so that the hand creates a hollow just below the dowel and the other dowel is used to strike the first, giving a bright, high pitched clicking sound. You'll find them most often in Latin and Cuban music where they form part of the rhythm section. A cowbell is more resonant and has a much more metallic sound by comparison.
I saw the title of this one & it did not ring any kind of bells for me, but as soon as it started playing I was like holy hell I remember this one from way back when. You two made me feel really old with this one LOL... love the song now that I have heard it again. Thanks you two!
Sorry dude, but there were only 3 lead guitarists in the band for the song, 'Green Grass and High Tides'. They were Hughie Thomasson - guitars, vocals(Died 2007,Heart Attack), Henry Paul - guitars, vocals and Billy Jones - guitars, keyboards, vocals(Died 1995,suicide), may they rest in peace. Hughie was the main soul of the band and the best guitarist. Hughie was nicknamed "The Flame" for his flaming fast guitar work and he is a member of the Fender Hall of Fame. In 1996 he along with Ricky Medlocke (an original Lynyrd Skynyrd band member before they got signed) and founder of the band, 'Blackfoot', joined and toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd for several years. Now that being said I completely agree with you about the song Green Grass and High Tides. It is a absolute bomb of a song and in my world the 2nd best rock guitar song ever written and played. The number 1 rock guitar song ever is Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird and the number 3 best guitar rock song ever was Ricky Medlocke's band Blackfoot's song 'Highway Song'. All three songs feature 3 great rock guitarists jamming like no other for the last 1/3 of each song in 3 part harmony. Totally hard core rock overdrive great guitar screaming arias. So Andy & Alex, when are going to do as these members of your youtube channel request and do all 3 of these songs. I think you might have done Freebird but you for sure have not done the other 2 songs. Webu reacts is the only music reaction channel that has done all three to date. So get with it boys because these 3 songs are 11's and tier 'S' entries. Kim Hellums
Of course, the brilliant rock voice of Paul Rogers, the wonderful drumming of Simon kirk and the great (late) Paul Kossoff on lead guitar. Part of the great soundtrack to my life.
When Free formed, all the members were between 15 and 18 years old, so the "maturity" to reign themselves in may not have been very well developed yet. The vocalist, Paul Rodgers, is held in high regard. Many consider him to be the best ever. They have a pretty strong argument, I'd say. Him and drummer Simon Kirke went on to form super group Bad Company, along with Mick Ralphs on guitar (from Mott The Hoople) and Boz Burrell on bass (from King Crimson). Extremely popular in the mid to late seventies. I don't think Free ever caught on very big in the US, besides this song. Maybe bigger in the UK? I couldn't vouch for either of those statements; just going on my own knowledge of them, which is pretty damn thin. What I do know is that this song has been a radio staple since I was an adolescent. It's a part of my DNA. I'll always enjoy listening to it. Bad Company is an obvious jump from here. Maybe even a little Mott The Hoople? Tragically overlooked in the reaction world. I'm not sure if you would find a whole lotta Free that would excite you. They were good, no doubt. But maybe more of a Bad Company footnote. Maybe not, though. My entire Free collection consists of the compilation "Completely Free". Twelve of their best known songs. And I'm good with that.

Oh my lord, those voices with that band behind them.
This was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s favourite band when they were breaking. Lead singer Paul Rodgers is the singer Rock singers often name as their favourite singer. In his 70s now, Paul’s voice is still amazing to hear.
Best one hit wonder to me is "Radar Love" by "Golden Earing" Imo they have many other bangers too. "Are you recieving me " "Vanilla queen" "Silver ships" just to name a few
I'm fairly sure that this is a extended version, and that the original doesn't repeat the last verse. This is one of the greatest rock band ever. All of them are one of the best at their instrument. And the songwriter partnership between Paul Rodgers (vocals) and Andy Frasier (bass)were exeptional. There's no bad Free song. Listen to i.a. Ride On Pony, The Stealer, Wishing Well, Fire and Water, Mr Big or the live cover of The Hunter.
One of my favorite guitar players, Paul Kossoff. Never over played, perfect pitch and tone. Eric Clapton was so jealous of his vibrato finger, he made Paul sit down and show. Try The Stealer, Wishing Well, Mr. Big. They were huge. Paul Rogers, vocals, And the drummer went on to form Bad Company which was basically Free Part 2.
all these tubers reacting to old songs just proves they're better than now songs because old songs are made from the ground up. This will be an everlasting reaction by tubers till the end of time.
I can never quite figure out how British kids in the 60s and 70s had so much soul. Stevie Winwood is the prime example. He sounded like a 60 year old Delta Blues guy when he was 15.
@Luuk Hulsman There are a (very) few of us foreigners who have appreciated Golden Earring since the 70s. On the other hand I have always said that if they had been British or American they would have been international superstars. Also, don't forget about "C'est Soir", "Candy's Gone Bad", "Vanilla Queen"...they did indeed have so many great songs. One of the bands that I truly wish that I had been able to see live but sadly they don't have a chance to tour North America and I can't afford a trip to Europe to see them.
I only recently found out that the riff on this track is two guitars, same guitar but different amp, same chords but with different chord shapes, played in perfect unison. Genius.
You can try "Heartbreaker," which is a favorite of mine. You can also move on to Bad Co to listen to more Paul Rodgers. He is one of the great voices of rock 'n' roll.
Yes, Paul Rodgers, the lead singer, went on to form Bad Company, as well as The Firm, & The Law. He also had a string of solo records, & joined up with Queen for the album, The Cosmos Rocks
This and "Ooh La La" are absolute classics from the Faces, along with Pool Hall Richard, Cindy Incidentally, etc. Back when Rod Stewart was a tough rock and r&b singer...
That song is played on every classic rock radio station at least once a day for good reason. The guitar player is considered to have one of the greatest vibratos ever. Check out Wilson Pickett’s Hey Jude with a young Duane Allman on guitar it’s nuckin’ futs. Cheers guys, keep it up.
I always played this in tandem with Magic Carpet Ride from Steppenwolf. I still have all of these records, more than I care to even try and count . Love the oldies.
Free were bigger in Europe, Australia and Japan. They had other hits like My Brother Jake, Little Bit Of Love and Wishing Well. Free is my all time favorite band and I love All Right Now, but it’s actually my least favorite track of theirs. Having said that, they never wrote a bad song. Everything was a gem. Every album was great. Have a listen to the Granada Tv gig of theirs here on UA-cam, only five songs. A concert they did for tv, it’s incredible. I especially love Ride On Pony and Mr Big from that show but the gig as a whole is incredible. When they played live, their show stopper song was usually The Hunter (from their first album that was a blues album). But I understand how many may think they were a one hit wonder band in the US. The band that the singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke formed afterwards Bad Company was a major success in the US but not as successful as Free was back in the UK. Free’s guitarist Paul Kossoff is my all time favorite guitarist, he just moves me like nobody else. His solo album was also incredible Back Street Crawler and his later band with the same name was also, I especially love the live album, live in Croydon 1975 with Back Street Crawler. Kossoff sadly died in 1976 at 25 years old 😞. He should be a household name like Hendrix, Page, Clapton (Clapton once famously asked Kossoff how he does his vibrato since Kossoff was known for his beautifully controlled vibratos). Also this version of All Right Now is the longer album version. There was also a single version, that was the one that was a radio hit. That has one less verse. After the solo, it goes straight into the chorus. And the first guitar solo is missing. But the single version has three layered guitars that to me sounds even cooler instead of the two layers here in the album version.
I have been asking for these songs for a while now and see others mentioned them on this post so I am listing them again for reinforcement. Golden Earring- Radar Love Thin LIzzy- Cowboy Song Steppenwolf- Born to be wild or Magic Carpet Ride!!
Considering that this song came out 50 years ago, it sounds damn good today. It's hard to know which songs will still sound timeless and which ones will get dated. Consider "In a gadda da vida" which came out only one year before this song, but was dated by 1975 (I know because that's when I first heard it.) And is no one going to comment on that hilarious line "let's move before they raise the parking rate?"
@@edvinlaine Rock On by David Essex and Cars by Gary Numan remind me of each other. They are both one hit wonder songs, there's a lot of “coolness” in them (maybe TOO cool), they have infectious grooves, but are VERY era-centric. They existed, and well-represented, their times-and only their times. But I love them both on their own merits.
He's still known in the UK as an actor although he does tour sometimes. He started off on the stage and made movies back in the day but is mainly doing TV work. He was a looker back then 😉
'Fire and Water', 'Mr. Big', and 'Wishing Well' were also big radio hits for Free. Paul Kossoff, on lead guitar, is one of the legendary guitar tone masters, and one who influenced many a player as Free did many a group. Kossoff's vibrato is considered to be the "Gold Standard" to this day.
I had a 45 of this record and used to okay it all the time in my dorm room at Stanford. The drum major of the marching band took it to the band's faculty director, who did and arrangement for the band to play and it's been a staple of their football games ever since,
This is mostly a driving song, and singing while you’re driving song. Sitting and listening can get a little monotonous. Try Funk 49. It’s the James Gang. It has Joe Walsh, one of the best guitarists ever, and he went on to be lead Guitar in the Eagles.

Try listening to Mr. Big, Fire & Water and Wishing Well from Free. They were only a one hit wonder in the US. They were huge in the UK.
This is a classic rock song. Paul Rodgers is one of the great voices in rock music all-time.
Sherri yes! It is totally a summer road trip song, isn’t it?
For years I thought it was"move before they raise the *effin rent". Lmao, one of the first lyrics I checked out on google!
Lord above, are you trying to put me in love", it so sounds like someone's real experience,
especially in the 70's, can picture the movie Serpico, Midnight Cowboy, The 7 Ups, that gritty, hard 70's. Paul can sing ok, the boy has pipes, Peace ✌
The greatest rock vocalist of all time hands down!!
Ahhh, the band Paul Rodgers (AKA “The Voice”) was in before Bad Company.
He also took over for Freddie for awhile in Queen.
Bad Company had so many great ones, and the production values just kept getting better.
I didn't know it was him! He sounds too good to be in this song.
I once read him described as being so hirsute, he could go on stage clean shaven and come off with a full beard.
Lucie Melahn he had an uncanny ability to be able to record his vocals consistently in one take. Hence his nickname.
Bad Company rose from the ashes of Free, and became one of my favorite rock bands of all time! Paul Roger's is an awesome frontman with that voice!
Brilliant song, try Steppenwolf Born to be wild. The title tells you all you need to know about this song!
Many moons ago when I first heard this song I bought the 45 RPM record & wore it out.
There’s never been any reason not to listen to “Never Been Any Reason” by Head East!!!!! Rock on Dudes!!!!!!
Or try Head East's "Man I Wanna Be" or "Jefftown Creek". "Never Been Any Reason" was the longest played song in the movie, Dazed + Confused, as well. (Shotgun!). Lmao!
And it has to be the album version!
I agree on Head East never been any reason another good Head East song would be love me tonight both are off of the album flat as a pancake
Ditto
One of my oldest sister’s favorite songs!!! And she loves Little Willy too!! She was the first one in my family to like the Cars too!! I Love both my sisters and my brother so much!! I really miss them right now with this Coronavirus crap going on!
Thanks for reviewing a song from my generation. This song is beyond astounding!
You finally discovered Paul Rodgers. Boy are you in for some cool songs.
All The Way From Memphis-----Mott The Hoople
Magic Carpet Ride Steppenwolf
Yes!
saxworth Good song, but come on dude...
So much yes!
Very trippy feel to that song!!
Long version!
Such a classic. My mom and older sisters listened to this all the time. I am so fortunate to have grown up in the 70's
Love this song - it's on EVERY good classic rock album, rightfully so. He fronted Queen for a time -they recorded an album and toured for a while.
I always loved how the bass player just stands there during the verses, but rocks out during the chorus and breakdown.
That song sure brings back memories!!…now shoot for JAMES GANG…Funk#49 or Walk Away
Kathy Thompson I think they’d really like Funk 49. Been recommending it for awhile.
I've been asking them to do Funk #49 for a while also Hymn 43 by Jethro Tull.
@@SHB59 And on that same theme, the lesser-known Funk #48 is killer too. I might actually like it better than #49.
Both of these are required listening, pay attention fellas, this is the good shit you are looking for!
Maturity ? They were teenagers when they created this !!!
You can try some Bad Company if you liked this. Paul Rodgers still rocking at over 70, saw him recently
Also his band The Firm with guitar god Jimmy Page
Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest vocalists in Rock and Roll history. Fire and Water is an absolute banger too...
This song and Hold Your Head Up by Argent, were on every seventies compilation album sold on television.
That is a very trippy song!!!
Exactly...and Bang A Gong by T-Rex.
I remember those 70's compilation album commercials on TV! To this day I think I can play the songs in sequence in my head!
I saw the title of this one & it did not ring any kind of bells for me, but as soon as it started playing I was like holy hell I remember this one from way back when. You two made me feel really old with this one LOL... love the song now that I have heard it again. Thanks you two!
I know you guys are tired of me saying this but GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES has four lead guitars and is a badass jamb. Pleeeease check it out.
It's a really amazing hit. My all time favorite song and I'm not even really an Outlaws fan.
I've thrown that one out there too. IMO, the greatest southern rock song ever.
@@mikeharris3733
I keep bugging them in hopes they'll notice. Fantastic song. So much energy, I feel wore out everytime I hear it.
I've been throwing this one out for months.....maybe someday.
Drumming Vulture Right up near the top IMO.👍
and paul rodgers was first one to stand in for freddie after his passing for queens front man.
@@cl8onj388: And I admire your loyalty to your band. Your opinion isn't mine, but that makes no difference in how you feel. You could do worse, that's for damn sure.
@@jerzeyguy71: I listened to Queen + Paul Rodgers. Gotta say, I was underwhelmed. It just didn't connect with me. But that's me, and I'm only one opinion out of, what, millions? LOL! I thinks it's cool that you got something you liked out of that pairing.
Have you ever seen the Freddie Mercury Concert For AIDS Awareness? Bowie and Annie Lennox doing "Under Pressure"? Oh my lord, those voices with that band behind them.
Mott - 'All the Young Dudes', the glam anthem.
You need to see their live version!
Another vote for "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” by Traffic.
This was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s favourite band when they were breaking. Lead singer Paul Rodgers is the singer Rock singers often name as their favourite singer. In his 70s now, Paul’s voice is still amazing to hear.
Best one hit wonder to me is "Radar Love" by "Golden Earing"
Imo they have many other bangers too.
"Are you recieving me "
"Vanilla queen"
"Silver ships" just to name a few
Radar Love *has* to be on everyone's playlist for road trips!
"Twilight Zone" Is by Golden Earring so they're NOT a one hit wonder......
@@donalddixon6541 True enough, but the song is called "Twilight Zone".
@@WDRhine ok. 2hit wonder. Both bangers!
I agree. Love Radar Love.
They were so fantastic live though !
Another classic rock staple. Thanks for posting. Recommending Ten Years After, "I'd Love to Change the World" .
PMSJL4809 Leo Lyons is my neighbour 🤘🏻🎸😊
Along with I’d love to change the world, I’m going home “Woodstock version”
all these tubers reacting to old songs just proves they're better than now songs because old songs are made from the ground up. This will be an everlasting reaction by tubers till the end of time.
Bad Company - Can’t Get Enough
❤️❤️✌🏻wow didn’t realize Paul Rodgers was in FREE !! He has one of the best rock voices!! Love it!!
“Never been any reason” by Head East. Which is in the same vein as Free.
Erik Harrison definitely on the same frequency
Aw, Hell yeah!
Omg YES.
ALSO, check out some Humble Pie, 30 Days In The Hole.
That is a one hit wonder
I can never quite figure out how British kids in the 60s and 70s had so much soul. Stevie Winwood is the prime example. He sounded like a 60 year old Delta Blues guy when he was 15.
Actually this is one of those unusual albums where EVERY song is great.
your listening to the best rock vocalist in history
Try Golden Earring "Radar Love"
Robert Wood Another great driving song.
@Luuk Hulsman Yes " She Flies on Strange Wings" is a great song
My favourite Dutch band ☺
Twilight zone
I only recently found out that the riff on this track is two guitars, same guitar but different amp, same chords but with different chord shapes, played in perfect unison. Genius.
Bad Company - Good Loving Gone Bad, Burnin' Sky, Shooting Star
I just hope you're introducing your friends to all this great music so many are missing out on these days!
You can try "Heartbreaker," which is a favorite of mine. You can also move on to Bad Co to listen to more Paul Rodgers. He is one of the great voices of rock 'n' roll.
Free is amazing. They had more than just this but this was def their biggest song. I recommend Worry and the title track from this one
Bong rattling bass😲😲🧡🧡🎸🎶
Mmmm....that would be Mel Schacher from GFR. Inside Looking Out for instance.
Yes, Paul Rodgers, the lead singer, went on to form Bad Company, as well as The Firm, & The Law. He also had a string of solo records, & joined up with Queen for the album, The Cosmos Rocks
It's alright now, now time for some Nazareth - Hair of the Dog, which is also a banger
agree
I love Nazareth and if you haven't heard the live version of Telegram from 'Snaz this is a must hear live classic.
Also Try "LOVE LEAD TO MADNESS"!?! THE WORDS HIT HOME BRO'S?!?
Now you’re messing with a son of a bitch now you’re messing with a son of a bitch!!!
An all time favorite song. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
"Black Coffee" by Humble Pie live at the Old Grey Whistle Test. Pure Sauce!!!
You guys really ought to watch the live performance of this at the 1970 Isle Of Wight concert. AWESOME performance!!
You guys should really check out "stay with me" by the Faces. It has that same 70s gritty bluesy sound and is PEAK swag.
This and "Ooh La La" are absolute classics from the Faces, along with Pool Hall Richard, Cindy Incidentally, etc. Back when Rod Stewart was a tough rock and r&b singer...
Now that my friend is a great song!!!
Stay With Me is a TREMENDOUS song.
Mike Riddle I hate hearing the songs I love referred to as "oldies", b/c it reminds me that I'M an oldie, too. 😉🤘
Golden Earring- Radar Love
Thin LIzzy- Cowboy Song
Steppenwolf- Born to be wild or Magic Carpet Ride!!
Seen headeast in concert. Great concert.
I used to sing for a cover band in Orlando, and we did Cowboy Song. I loved singing that song. It was always a hit with the crowd.
If you do Radar Love you gotta do Twilight Zone also.
Check out “Rock On” by David Essex. That's a freakin' cooooool song with a really famous bass groove. And then we never heard from him again.
Yes! They really should check out Rock On!
Rock On I think is the most avantgarde rock song which peaked no.1 in UK.
He was a looker back then 😉
@@ladyjane8855 I liked the movie Stardust with Dave Edmunds, Keith Moon, Adam Faith and Larry Hagman the sequel to That'll Be the Day with Ringo
Ok you really really need to check out Johnny Lang " Lie to me" its one cool tune.
"Heavy Load" was another notable tune from Free. As was "Fire and Water". Great songs.
Great one-hit wonder! Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky 😙
I agree. Joe is great and so is Funk 49.
Great suggestion
Definitely some Joe Walsh. Long overdue.
Vanessa McNamara Also some pretty good solo stuff; "Life's Been Good" "Rocky Mountain Way" & "A Life of Illusion" just to name a few.
CL8ON J I’ve actually mentioned all of those. Waiting patiently.
