@@hpickettz34 yeah, Genesis basically has the 2nd and 3rd arcade versions of SF2, PCE is just the 2nd Champion Edition version. So Genesis has more value, but something about the PCE to me looks and sounds slightly more like the arcade even without the parallex, its colors and sound effects seems more authentic to me.

Just a reminder that while this is a one to one comparison in the video, the games are not themselves a one-to-one comparison because the MD/Genesis port included the updated Hyper Fighting content, with balance changes, new colors, and increased speed. It's unfortunate that Hyper Fighting content was not included in the PCE/TG16 version, likely due to the timing of its release.

    • @S.Madman
      @S.Madman Місяць тому +8

NEC could have asked for Capcom to delay the game like Sega did, but I think little would have changed due to the memory size of the HU-card. Making one to fit all the content would have been expensive for Capcom. Heck the one they used for SF2 has a custom mapper to allow for 4x512KB upper page map banks with a lower 512KB bank .

    • @m.jordan5181

Cool seeing the PC Engine controller visualized. Goes perfect head to head with six button Genesis controller.
    1. Different menu screens. The Genesis version not only offers Dash but Excite speed ratings. Also a little icon that changes instead of a star. Also group battle.

    3. Visual elements are different. On Guile's PC Engine stage the USAF logo is on the ground. Missing from the Genesis version.

@@caseyhayes4590 To be fair, arcade hardware (at least from big players like Capcom and SEGA) being miles ahead of the curve versus contemporary home hardware was to be expected in terms of power and cost. Assuming they were successful games, they'd basically pay for themselves quickly even at such seemingly high operator purchase costs (though IIRC they'd often rent out units rather than buy them, partially explaining why arcades tended to have rotating game rosters).
It wasn't until the Dreamcast where the arcade/home power gap really started to close noticeably. I don't count the Neo Geo AES because it was built off the actual MVS arcade hardware, and was aimed at a boutique subsection of gamers rather than the mass gaming market.

    Second Watch Observations:
    1. I see that fighting game players instinct in effect. On both versions you hold back on the D-Pad before each round start. With that you can back up to give your self distance. Or anticipate an attack to block.
    2. Interesting that on the Genesis controller that the buttons A,B,C,X,Y,Z are placed left to right. While on the PC Engine the buttons are read left to right on the bottom then right to left on the top. So the Roman Numerals read top row 4,5,6 and bottom row 3,2,1.
    3. Also the PC Engine uses run to begin compared to Start on the Genesis controller.

I own both versions and SF2 Turbo for the SNES. I was and still am a big fan of the Original Arcade version. So for me the Mega Drive version was closest to the Arcade in my opinion. The Mega Drive version plays the best with the official sega 6 button pad which is tied for the best controller of all time IMO with the Sega Saturn controller. It a plays better than the 2 6 button pads that came out for the PC Engine. Also the Mega Drive version plays in Higher Resolution and has the best RGB image out the 3. The PC Engine version looks good in RGB but is over saturated a little and the Super Famicom RGB image is worst than the Mega Drive and PC Engine RGB images even if you have a 1 chip SNES (1 chip SNES RGB is better than a 2 Chip SNES). The player sound effects arent as good on the Mega Drive version but it never bothered me and it is closer to the Arcade compared to the Super Famicom version. The PC Engine wins as far as sound effects out of the 3 but some player sound effects on the Mega Drive are just fine like Guile's Sonic Boom sounds good on the Mega Drive version. As far as the Music the Mega Drive version is the overall winner out of the 3 and sounds closest to the Arcade.

more color on the pc-engine, more resolution on the mega drive. In any case, I have always thought that the mega drive could have had the same scale as the arcade sprites. Due to the fact that it was based on the SNES sprites, it may have ended up this way.

    *No cenário Sagat:*
O chão do PC Engine tem a grama completa. No Mega, ficou faltando a grama aonde acontece a luta.
    Cores melhores no PC Engine

PC Engine is throwing around more colors than the Genesis, especially when you look at the smoothness of the color gradients in places like the sky in Guile's stage, or the background in Vega's. Obviously the voices are so much clearer than the Genesis. As far as I know, it was some issue with the driver, because there's a beta version of the Genesis version floating around that has much better voices.
The Genesis has a pretty snappy beat when it comes to the music though. Very impactful. The PC Engine is fine, but feels a little tinny and underpowered in a few places like Blanka's stage.
Doesn't seem like either game really misses a beat when it comes to gameplay, as their roots are clearly derived from the SNES port of World Warrior. That's obviously the most important thing. Everything else, very few people would have noticed back in the day. Most of us were just kids, hyped to the moon that the game we played in the arcade is on our consoles.

Exemplo: Eu tenho 2 memórias no PC.

close one, PCE better colors, better sound effects, better voice samples, music is a mixed bag, some tracks sound better on PCE some are better on the Genesis. Genesis has that one layer of background scrolling missing in PCE (noticeable in some levels, not as noticeable in others), more background animations in Genesis (Guile stage for example), also Genesis version had options to play the "Turbo" version of the game sort of making it two versions in one. Arcade had 5 official versions, PCE is the 2nd version Champion Edition, Genesis has options for 2nd version Champion Edition or Turbo 3rd version. I kind of like the PCE version more, but totally get why some would rather have the extras of the Genesis version.
