I mean no disrespect but Larry had big wins against opponents who were past their prime. Larry could not have beaten prime Ali or prime shavers. Larry peaked after the golden era of boxing. When Larry was past his prime Tyson made minced meat of him. He could not give a good fight like his aged opponents gave him in his prime.

@jeryd2003 1)That's true. Holmes said he always thought he could beat Ali because he sparred with him and later on got to where he could handle Ali in sparring. But that was in the early 70s when he started sparring with him and by the mid 70s when Holmes' own career was on the rise, no wonder he was hanging with Ali then. Buit you never hear the guys from the 70s that had tough fights with Ali acknowledge how incredible his speed and reflexes were when he was in his prime.

Earnie Shavers looks as wide as he is tall, no wonder he could generate that power! He'll always be able to say he fought 2 real greats in Ali and Holmes giving them tough bouts.

Come to think of it, Foreman and Frazier never fought Shavers,
and they were all in the mix at the same time.

The audio production seems pretty poor. When you can't hear them because maybe the microphone mix isn't up enough, it's not accounted for.

I have so much respect for these Legends ! To many, Earnie Shavers was just to much of a puncher. NOBODY WANTED TO FIGHT HIM !!! Though he had endurance problems, had he had a Great coach he would have been UNBEATABLE.

@ah93704 true . I believe Tyson was more effective as a puncher (sharper snapper punches as opposed to heaviness). Even Holmes said Tyson had a very good jab. Shavers was just a very heavy puncher. I will always pick effectiveness (snap, explosiveness, timing combination) over heaviness - why you think Tyson instilled fear like no one else. You can not deal with something you can not see.

@torchkit Amen to that! Why is it that sports videos have to have "music" (just a bunch of computerized noise) in the background? What makes it even more annoying is that this was a good interview. I wish that when they put these videos together they would can the techn-pop.

@TA152H01 of course you can, and Foreman had the greater power. When he retired the first time he was probably higher up the ko percentage than Shavers. Shavers had a hard time with very limited opposition. He struggled with guys that Foreman would have walked right through. I've been around the fight game since I was a little kid bro. I know what I"m talking about. Foreman was a better overall fighter and thus a better puncher!

@MultiGreat1 Ive heard him talk about it. He said "Shavers was the hardest puncher he ever faced, including Tyson."

There are also stories of him telling Dolph Lundgren (who played Ivan Drago) to punch him as hard as he could and being knocked unconscious as a result.

What’s with the background music? Too loud and not necessary.
