As of August (two months ago) there was still a dispute over who owns Honeycomb. There are two groups both claiming to own the name and the products. Which leaves me curious who made Squirrel's pedals and whether they're real Honeycomb -- whatever "real" means.
yeah I'm glad I already had the Alpha and Bravo and now I've really written off the company until things settle. Hopefully I don't need repairs/replacements. I have MFGs for rudders and I'm fine with those.
Considering the former CEO who claims it's still his even though is being sued in California for over 2 million dollars... I'm going to go with it belongs to the parent company now who are the ones claiming it
Pro tip for flight simmers who want more accuracy. Put your heels on the ground and steer with your toe tips using a lever motion. You'll notice a lot less jerkiness in your runway centerline control. That's how it's done in real life!
£340 ouch!. Was looking forward to seeing these as I own the Alpha and Bravo controls. I ended up 3D printing and made my own pedals with an Arduino and some aluminium extrusion for about £40 all in, in the time I was waiting for these to be released. Feels like If they were sub £200 I'd be tempted but £340 is a bit much to make me upgrade. The hand controls were great value amongst competitors. Don't feel I can say the same about the pedals. Appreciate the review squirrel.
It's a low volume product meaning they can't produce it very cheaply. Still a hefty markup obviously but I think it's an OK price. If they expected to sell hundreds of thousands of these they could make it cheaper.
Nice video as always, and the pedals look OK to me. I managed to get hold on a set of good old Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals which also have metal adjustable foot rests by the way. For €50 used quite a steal if I may say so. Sure they have analogue potentiometers and don't feature the more accurate HAL-effect sensors which are inside the Charlie Rudder Pedals, but the control is fine enough for me 🙂
I plan to purchase these charlie rudder pedals in the near future. I right now just use my Logitech joystick to control the rudder but I have the honeycomb yoke and throttle for the rest of the controls of the aircraft i'm flying.
I really wanted a set of Charlies to add to my Alpha/Bravo combo. Unfortunately due to the ongoing issues with the company, I just couldn't wait and grabbed some pedals from Virpil instead.
With the price they are I wouldn't touch these when Virpil, Winwing are in the same range. Thrustmaster pendular ones are a bit more expensive. One of the things I hated about my logitech rudder pedals was the plastic creaking all the time I used them.
As a desktop flight simmer, I have never had rudder pedals but just today ordered the Logiteck G Saitek Pro peddles. At £139 they are affordable. The Honeycomb are just too expensive as my first set of peddles but may take another look at them in a years time if I decide to buy a rig. But then I will probable get the peddles you already have on your rig for the money. Thank you Paul for the vid 👍
I’m afraid the Logitech/Saitek are an old design and rubbish I’m afraid, I had a set, I know. You would have been better off saving for something that isn’t entry level as none of them are any good. But seriously, a flight simmer without pedals isn’t even flight simming.
I got the logitech about 4 years ago. Worked well enough but very creaky and 'plasticy' in use. Upgraded to Virpil and what a difference in feel. I would say though cancel the order and save a bit longer for something else but not these 'charlies'.
Pretty much the whole flight sim gears is lacking on the mid budget price, wether it's rudders, joysticks, etc. There's Turtle beach but they're a bit overpriced and more gizmos over quality. At least winwing have released the Ursa minor joystick.
Pretty happy I didn't wait for these and went with the MFG Crosswinds instead. The manufacturing looks well below that of the Alpha and Bravo for a start and certainly not as customisable as the MFGs which are slightly cheaper..
lol, this is another plastic job, it’s not going to compare to the Thrustmaster Pendular, Virpil ACE, WinWing Orion, or MFG Crosswinds. Seriously, get one of those, don’t bother with this.
Hello Paul! Is there any way you can get two metal brackets with holes drilled where the base connects and where the new rudders connect and place it between the rudders and the base plate? It may be elevated from the base by the thickness of the head of the nut though. Just thinking.... Onomichi here!
If anybody is looking for a good set of rudder pedals, avoid the cheap entry level garbage, and do yourself a favour and buy either the Virpil ACE, MFG Crosswinds, Thrustmaster Pendular or WinWing Orion over this. You’ll be much happier and most if not all of those have a FFB mod you can add down the line with a VPForce motor kit which is what I’m doing to my Virpil’s.
Great review, but it’s the only one out of six that I’ve seen that could sort of recommend them. Everyone else is a hard no, due to Price the stability of the company right now the way they’re built, etc.
Those are excellent. I have both the V2, and V3 model, the latter has the hydraulic damper. I would recommend the damper as that makes them feel even nicer, and eliminates that snap back when they are under tension.
@@hobanagerik Yup, I ordered the damper with it :) I was going to get the Thrustmaster set, then I decided to go for the Virpl half decent ones, but then I looked on redit and sooo many comments were singing the MFG's praises, so I landed on those. Should be here in a week I hope. Also ordered a 40cm heli extension for my Warthog joystick. I tried helis in VR the other day and was instantly in love n went on a lil spending spree lmao.
I love my V3s and bought the damper with for it, but i decided to uninstall the damper for now since it has a certain "Center Stickiness" which makes nimble maneuvers really hard.
@@HighDefBNG You will love the MFGs with damper for heli flight and the extension to the Warthog will make a lot of difference to your fine control. VR makes depth perception and overall enjoyment about 100 times better for helis... so you are all set to go. I went from the standard footplates to the Combat pedals on my MFGs. I never looked back. Foot placement is exactly like it would be in say, a JetRanger so you can have heels on the floor or in the air depending on preference and the toe brakes can be used for something like the HPG H160 etc but don't get in the way otherwise. I tried a lot of adjustment to the standard plates before getting the combat pedals but wish I'd got them earlier. Have fun ....
@@kraven4444 almost all aircraft have independent toe brakes, so they can be used to help turn when the nose wheel steering isn’t enough and obviously both used to slow and stop the aircraft, how else did you think an aircraft stopped?
@@WhiteHawk77 Makes sense. idk if I heard that years ago and just forgot. Well I also don't fly and don't take flight sim that seriously lol. Do you know which factory your pedals came from, the original factory or the one that is used by the partner that essentially bankrupted Honeycomb but insists that it owns the brand name? From my understanding of the research done by UA-cam videographers, those from the original factory are better. For example, the pretender, which still has the Website, had to reverse engineer the circuit board, and the result looks slipshod. If the SN begins with SA it was made in the original factory. If the SN starts with RY, it's from the factory that had to copy the company's founder's design and came up with an inferior version. Ironically, the ersatz party, Snakebyte, claims that the founder is selling a "counterfeit" Charlie. As revealed by independent researchers, that's false, and the ones sold by Snakebyte via their Honeycomb website are actually the counterfeit ones. BESIDES the new circuit board, they have substandard elastic bands providing the felt resistance to pedal movement; those bands have been shown to fail earlier than those on the original Charlie. A buyer would want to be sure he's getting a Charlie from the original factory with a SN starting with "SA." A third party retailer should be able to tell buyers the source of Charlie's they're selling
You have your pedals way too close to your body. Also, you should rest your heels on the floor and use the upper part of your feet to control the rudders. This will make your adjustments a lot smoother. You shouldn't have to reduce the sensitivity on the rudder pedals.
@@MyAirMyles WOW! Seriously?? I haven’t been able to enjoy using a sim without rudder pedals in about 10 years at least! Once I tried rudder pedals I never went back!

I imagine they are trying to recoup R&D costs. Hopefully, if they sell enough units, the price will go down over time.
its £296.45 on their actual website and quality sim equipment is expensive always will be.
you can mount them using heavy duty 3M velcro on the bottom of the rudder pedal base and metal bracket.
I used zip ties through the mounting holes and onto the plate. Works well and is as solid as if it was mounted using screws.
