As a small time UA-camr myself. It’s really easy to fall off recording the same thing over and over again being repetitive. And every time I talk to someone they always say “ do more of day in the life through out the whole day videos” and I get to the point to where it’s just so boring to record. because mentally I feel like no one wants to see that. But, people actually prefer that.
Production value on this vlog is way higher than a vlog requires. Kelsey you spoil us. What a beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing this experience with us.
Thanks for letting us tag along, the scenery was beautiful! Could you explain what "the landing on the plane has expired"? I hope you've found a fantastic work/life balance. Not many people can say they have 1.24M people cheering them on for success in their personal and professional lives!
The autoland function is a complex computer system that has to be periodically tested, and this can only be done under actual flight conditions, while being monitored by the pliot(s).
@@gordonrichardson2972 Ah, thank you for that; that’s exactly why I came to the comment section. @cwamason, because it sounds backwards, Kelsey is referring to having to do an autoland *because* the autoland certification is expired. I think that’s a CAT II approach, but regardless, it’s an approach that would generally be used during poor visibility and the plane lands by itself based on its instruments and the airport ILS. Kelsey isn’t being *forced* to use the autoland features, but, I’m assuming, he needs to check that they work in clear blue sky conditions. In crystal clear conditions, he’ll know if the plane is doing everything it needs to do because he’ll be able to see the runway, and verify everything is in good working order to re-certify it. That way, when the autoland system is used in cloudy conditions, it should still work fine. I’m not a pilot; just an enthusiast, so take everything I said with some grain of salt, but I believe this is the context of why he said it.
@@gordonrichardson2972That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation! I initially took it as some instrumentation certification had expired so they couldn’t use it. Therefore they had to do an autoland instead. That didn’t make any sense at all and I was very confused.
@cwamason, just as with pilots, aircraft need to be certified to perform certain operations and procedures but also 'current' on the calendar to be eligible to use them legally. 'Autoland' or Cat3 instrument approaches are for extreme low visibility/ceiling conditions and basically the autopilot flies the plane all the way to touchdown when the pilots can't see the runway well or at all until they're on the ground. Autoland approaches must be performed periodically by authorized aircrews in what are basically practice conditions in fair weather to verify the software and onboard equipment and instrumentation are working properly, and that pilots authorized to shoot Cat3 approaches are also current. Pilots will ask for 'practice autoland' while inbound and talking with ATC. When conditions at the airport allow, this also lets ATC verify that ground-based navigation aids in the Instrument Landing System are working properly, and for approach and tower personnel to practice their parts in the cooperative procedure. Strictly routine.

Probably one of the better videos I've seen Kelsey put out in a while... Both in terms of production quality and attention to detail. I loved the whole key debacle. I've been there. And I too was understanding and not hot tempered about it. Because I'm an F-ING adult. Need more actual adults in this stupid world.
I used to see dreamlifters all the time at our local airfield. Of course that's Boeing Field so... I'm so sorry you had such hotel woes. Wish we could've seen the fuselage loaded in the cargo bay. I've loaded hueys onto C-5As but to see a fuselage on the dreamlifter would have really given the viewers an idea of the scale. Glad you had a successful flight, keep the blue side up, unless you're aerobatic.

It is plain to see that you really enjoy and care about what you do as a pilot and that is what makes your channel so great to watch. I always look forward to new postings here; be safe up there and keep up the good work here, too!
Hello Kelsey, this is one of my favorite series that you do, the life of a commercial pilot, both the good, and the bad. That dream lifter is one magnificent plane, it looks huge like the space shuttle. Your lucky you get a bunk, passengers get a seat lol. I will admit 2-hotels, both have issues, not a good thing, but wow what a view right.
I was studying the EASA Oxford ATPL book on Human Performance and they have an entire section dedicated to sleep which includes the effects of jet lag( flying eastwards being harder than westwards ), planning sleep over a 24 hr layover, disruption of sleep etc....and lo and behold Captain Kelsey has a practical video...
Love watching your videos. As a young lad, I worked my ass off to obtain my SEI/MEI Commercial, working on my ATP, I had big dreams of flying the airlines. But other (family) obligations led me to a different career. I still love flying privately and love being in the clouds. So, I'm living vicariously through your video. Keep em coming Kelsey. Truly enjoy the PIC/left seat time w/ ya! Good on ya, mate. P.S. My dream plane has always been the Dash 8.
If I had to guess, I would assume that this is the first time you flew the Dreamlifter from the left seat. Pretty epic! Loved this one Captain Kelsey!! Great job
Another great video. Pretty cool seeing a cargo plane. I wish you would have shown the cargo setup thou. Yeah it's probably boring but I would have liked to see it anyway.
Kelsey, I don't know what restrictions are placed on you but the bits which show you are work are really exceptional. I wish you could include more of these views of you working in your office.
Very cool, I saw your plane sitting at Charleston when we got into town that day. I was able to verify you were in fact the one that woke me up leaving Charleston when you did, I had just gotten into town and settled into the hotel, finally fell asleep and heard a massive plane leaving town just after midnight. To dark to tell what it was out the window of my room. But the next day, I heard it coming in to land when I was on the roof top bar. I recognized the engine noise and looked up and saw a Dream Lifter flying in to land. Awesome to see it in the air. But the one I saw came in about 3 hours after your flight returned that day from Anchorage. Awesome to be so near, Love the content. Keep it up!
One of these days when your older, retired and sitting down with your grandkids and they ask "What did you do when you were younger, granddad?" - You're going to have some incredible videos to show to them.
The dalmatian Dreamlifter is so amazing! Idk why, but i wasn't aware that it had different engines than a "normal" 747. Now every time i see a dreamlifter flying over... I'll wonder if you're piloting that beasr! Keep up the great work!
As someone who frequently stays up and then sleeps during the day. I highly recommend laying a bath towel over your face; helps trigger the body's "protect eyes" response so you don't need to do any thinking on 'keeping eyes closed'. Plus it dampens the sounds. And, of course, blots out pretty much all the light. ((I found those night visor pad thingies to be very uncomfortable with the elastic band applying a not-zero-amount of force against my head.))
I live in CHS and I love driving home sometimes and seeing this big bird come in over the interstate. It's a beautifully amazing plane. Thanks for sharing!

Kelsey, thanks for bringing us along for the ride on the beautifully unique DreamLifter. I felt that thousand yard stare at 1:59 when told you missed breakfast. 😐
IKR...!?!?😉😳👁👁🤣😂🤣😂💕💞
After watching the video in full, I had to go right back to that 2:00 mark just for that! 😂 I see how he starts looking around, like A) This is either a prank or B) Chain of Command-who is the next highest-ranking person on deck that I can speak to about getting some chow.
Love the worshipful music while showing the Dreamlifter and the ominous music covering the missing breakfast. This is an actual movie!
Yeah, he has great taste in music. Like at the end… “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” while flying a DreamLifter.
They almost look like flying whales. 😊
Absolutely AGREED 🎯💯🤩😁📺🎬📹📼
If this is the work of your new editor it’s fantastic. The transitions and musical accompaniment seem new. 😍 If not, great job Kelsey! 😂
Agreed 🎯💯🤩👍👍
PIC of what is arguably the coolest bird in the sky. I remember hearing you talk about her in an old, old podcast and never thought I'd see you fly her. Thanks for the awesome video.
Great vid Mr.K...I have to have a silent and dark room also. Usually use an eye cover or dark hand towel to drape over my eyes, try it. Always enjoy your matter-of-fact humor, and the "Oh well" attitude when handed kinks in your day. You can't fix stupid or bad JuJu sometimes, gotta roll with it. Safe travels to you always.
Man, your blogs are my favorite to watch, and not just because I'm an aspiring pilot. You're great at this, and whenever it seems that my dream is so far away and so unachievable, I watch one of your videos and feel inspired to keep going, keep trying. Thanks!
That is your best video ever. The incorporation of action shots of the jet transition your segments very well.
Man, this video was so cool. Cool editing, cool content and yeah, Italy... And yeah, freaking awesome plane. Also really cool to see someone flying that beast with a hoodie on... Totally bad ass!
I want to say that you have the best job in the whole world from what I see here.
That was so cool. She's quite the lady. Thanks for bringing us along!
Flying theDream Lifter! You are sooooo coool!
Kelsey is the real deal...!! He never boasts about himself, or his job..!! He tells it like it is..!! Hope to get to fly with him someday..!! 🙂
If I had to guess, I would assume that this is the first time you flew the Dreamlifter from the left seat. Pretty epic! Loved this one Captain Kelsey!! Great job
One of your best and most interesting episodes! Thanks!
My wish for Kelsey is a Dream Lifter full of cozy blankets and delicious snacks ❤
Tee Hee Hee..I wholeheartedly CONCUR with that Wish!!!🎯💯🤩😁🤣😂🤣💕💞👍👍✈️🛩🛫🛬
Y desayunos gratis...
Awesome video. Kelsey's focus has not changed at all over the years. It's always about a free breakfast and snacks.
Just met Kelsey in the Houston airport. What a nice guy. Kelsey, thanks for saying hello and being so kind to a big fan.
Great ep, like the simplistic low key vibe. it's nice seeing a day in the life of you, Cap. Happy trails 🎉
Captain of the Dreamlifter!
Top of your game!
Congrats, Kelsey. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Keep the great content coming.
That is just awesome!
Another great video. Pretty cool seeing a cargo plane. I wish you would have shown the cargo setup thou. Yeah it's probably boring but I would have liked to see it anyway.
The cargo portion of the aircraft is unpressurized, and there is no access from the flight deck.
Kelsey man you crack me up with your food emotions lol that edit was great lol 😂😂
I like your work! Especially that you don't have an extended intro of your videos. Right into it. Thx!
The dalmatian
Dreamlifter is so amazing!
He's a real pilot! Wow!
I live in CHS and I love driving home sometimes and seeing this big bird come in over the interstate. It's a beautifully amazing plane. Thanks for sharing!
I work at the airport here in CHS and it was pretty cool to know when that took off the other night that was him taxi-ing to the run way in front of the delta ramp
This deserves so many more subs!
Sir you're living a dream. It isn't only the coolest fact that you're a Pilot but other elements too like the redeye flight, travel by air. This life style. A salute 😎👍
I don't miss flying the Dreamlifter, but I loved taxiing it around and taking pictures of it. Now 718BA lives as a model on my desk. I'll miss 5Y. Wish I could've flown with you
Kelsey, your editing skills are so good. Great video and thank you for sharing!
Goldilocks and the 747 Dreamlifter Trip... This bunk is too cold, this bunk is too hot...
This video is juuust riiiight
Just the way it goes sometimes!
Kind of miss seeing the Boeing jets being assembled & tested & upgrades done in Renton, Kent, Everett
@@KnawedOne Hopefully again soon. One of my gaming friends is affected by the strike and he says they're supposed to be voting on a new contract offer tomorrow.
We all see what you did there! 😁
Amazing how he videos a takeoff, comes back and picks up the camera, and then takes off for real without getting in trouble!!!!
I saw that too, and thought it was amazing. Then I realied it had to have been done with a really really long bungee cord. Has to be long enough to not pull the camera and tripod in until AFTER the gear retract!
Same, I was thinking that he really has some great people who seem willing to help him out and upload the footage to a virtual drive for him. Very cool.
As much as I love all of your videos, the work vlogs are by far my favorite. The DreamLifter?! You are a seriously talented/blessed/elite pilot.
This was the best video to date i think! The punchy transitions were slick and the music was apt. Oh yeah, no big deal being PIC on the dreamlifter. awesome.
Captain Kelsey flying the DreamLifter such a cool 747.😊 great video Captain Kelsey.❤
Kelsey, you are an absolute legend! Love your videos, been watching for years! You work so hard and you’re so dedicated to your job! Be proud and keep it going! Much love from the U.K.
"Hello, if you don't know me, my name is Kelsey..."
I miss your layover vids from the hotel room!
Keep the blue side up ;-)
@mildlemon7866 you forgot Hey 74 crew, welcome back! 😄
But it's more fun blue side down 😳
You’re a class act. For you to keep your composure after all that; hat’s off to you.
❤ these flight vlogs of day-in-the-life content. Thanks Cap'n! Although everything didn't go your way, you always maintain your super-cool, never pitch a fit, and confidently deal with it. You're a HERO!!!❤❤❤
74 Gear.. Always #1
