Hi, I don't know barely anything about cars as much as everyone here in the comments. However, recently I've been learning quite a bit about cars, engines, and all that jazz. I just want to ask what are those spouts on the left side (viewers perspective) of each cylinder? I'm only assuming it's some sort of an exhaust as it opens when the driver revs the engine, but I also expected the exhaust to be hooked up and sent out the rear of the car?
Its an throttle body, most cars only have 1 and its usually connected to the gas pedal to let more air and fuel into the engine, but this car has 4 throttle bodys, independent for each cylinder. The noise is intake noise, you hear it in most cars but usually very subtle. 4age's are known to be done up with Independent throttle bodys (ITBS) often.

@@xzovy6142 Well the throttle body(s) are what you control the engine with, so the more they are open the more air the engine will mix with more fuel. The fumes are probably fuel mixed with air since there isnt a filter or a longer intake, some cars have fuel come up from the injectors, not sure tbh. could be warm air on a cold day too. The exhaust is not really connected to the throttle bodys, other than being the exit for the gasses that are created in the combustion chamber atleast.

@@xzovy6142 No, It controls the speed of the of the engine by letting more air into the engine, Its connected directly to the throttle, so you push the pedal more, and it opens more. The valve openings in the intake and exhaust of an engine are controlled solely by the camshaft, some cars have secondary camshafts but either way the inlet valves arent controlled by the throttle body.
the engine has a after market camshaft to make power high in the rpm range, and thus the idle becomes rough. that's why it sounds weird and why he has to rev the engine up when he first starts it
@@jmon9001 I have aftermarket cams in my 4ag and lumpy idle. No noises like that. I read through other comments and others have said it was the carb butterflies clicking/flapping. Makes sense.
@@feral4mr2 well the SR16VE and the SR20VE are the NEO VVL series It was available in many old Nissan hatchbacks like the Pulsar and Sunny the difference here the SR NEO its non-turbo not mention the SR16VE makes more power by stock than a stock C18DET or a stock KA24DET the B16A its a part of the family of Honda's B series first engine that offered the VTEC in 1989 and the B16B and B17A1 B18C1 and B18C5 came later as performance engines for econo cars back in the early 90s the price for these EG6 SiR-II was 600.000 yens same with the Pulsar GTI the AE92 FX16 GT with the 4AGE 20 Valves was a good car too with incredible specs for the price Why we can't have hot hatches fun to drive with non-turbo high revving engines like these 3 examples
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer!

Im used to only seeing butterfly valves but never seen anything like those sliding hatch ones
they are flat slide carburetors
it migt be Yamaha R6 bike carbs or Honda CBR600
