I had one of these, pristine, was the 95 3.0 liter OBD1 car. Got rear ended twice while stationary in 2 days. First day I was sitting in traffic on the highway where someone plowed into a car 4 cars back. They all slammed forward and the car behind me got shoved into the back of my M3. Cosmetic damage, ripped the bumper cover. 2nd day, sitting stationary at a light, someone came and ran straight into me directly at 50 mph. Shoved the rear bumper under neath the rear window. Knocked me out, broke the seat, when I woke up I was laying flat down on my back. Driver behind me was screaming, broke her hand, I imagine holding her phone infront of her face. That's all I can remember after that. Brain injury caused me 2 days of amnesia prior to the incident and 8 hours after. I only remember the 1st crash from pictures and my brother's retelling of it since he was in the car with me. All this to say, I miss my M3 dearly. It was such a great car.
I didn’t know Gingerman still hosted track days this time of year. I’ve got a street/track E36 M3 here in Ohio. Would be cool to meet up with some other owners
I want to master driving a manual transmission and want to learn how to drift. Debating between an E36 M3 or a Toyota GR86. Both are very fun cars. Would love to see how the two compare.
Both are excellent, well-balanced rwd platforms. As a dedicated drift/fun car get the e36 as they are much cheaper so it wont hurt as much if you make mistakes, but if you need it as a one car solution get the gr86, it is a great daily if you dont need a ton of space. I def wouldnt recommend drifting/tracking your only car though
@ it will be a dedicated car that I want to build. The car I end up going with will also be an avenue for me to become more mechanically inclined as I have always got my cars worked on by a dealer or trusted shop. I have always loved the E36. Naturally aspirated, RWD, and timeless design. The only thing holding me back from getting the E36 now is availability of parts and the possibility of damaging a bmw classic. The GR86 has grown on me a lot this year and after seeing people turbo charging the car it’s made it even more desireable for me. I appreciate you weighing in. Always nice to interact with the community of this channel.
@ oh if your looking for a project car an e36 is the perfect option. Super strong community, oe, and aftermarket support. If you hit a road block its almost guaranteed there is a guide or forum post somewhere talking about it. Plus dont feel bad about using one to learn, theyre still relatively cheap and plentiful (in the us), plus they have been used and abused for this exact purpose for the last 20 years. An e36 was my first car and taught me so so much both technical and driving, and I think its the same for the guy in the vid. Its like a german 240 with as much or more support. Plus itll be much easier to work on compared to a new car
@@DANGERZOMED that is all very true, started looking at some E36’s tonight. For a nice example with under 60k miles I’m looking at upper 30s. Brand new GR86’s go from 30-35k. I definitely love the look and sound of the E36 much better.
A 328i or 325i would be good too, more than enough power for drifting and you can still get a good one for sub 10k. The rear subframe is a weakpoint so its worth checking out. Also if its a project it might be worth it to get a higher mileage one for a lot leas, these will do 150k+ easily
6:21 was nasty 👌
I think the most impressive thing was having a full blown conversation at times while pushing it in the corners and drifting. Impressive
There are no old M3's. Only those behind on their maintenance schedule. Keep on Rollin' my friend.
Love seeing these classic BMWs!!!!
That goofy laugh followed by the owner’s nervous laughter lol
OMG that sound🔥
