True I live in Davao City PH I can't believe how expensive laptops are In the Philippines compared to Walmart Target or BigBuy price's in the USA.. what gives??
@@TheFilipinaPeaYep, the taxes on technology. It would be a good idea of putting an assembly business of electronics in the Philippines on those highly taxed products that way theres more jobs and cheaper electronics. There’s an idea for anyone wanting to start a business in the Philippines, import individual products and assemble there.
Most of the cheap products are made cheaply also. They're likely manufactured by extremely poor people who work horrible hours and don't have any options once they get themselves into that situation. The Chinese communist party does horrible things to people, including the Philippines.
@@juliusseizure3039 Well, maybe you should give some examples of what they manufacture in the Philippines that’s bad because knowing filipino people they are very talented. As an example my viper pst 2 from vortex 1-6 scope is made in the Philippines and its made like a tank, very well made and the electronics in it have never failed, not even the battery have I changed it in 3 years and many that compete use it widely because its great quality.
I think she is taller than the average Filipina. My ex wife that I brought back to the U.S was 5’7 and weighed about 125. Everyone always said she’s so small, my reply “what are you talking about? I brought back the biggest one I could find” lol gets a laugh every time 😅
My Filipina wife of 34 years worked at our local Walmart for 22 years. I can’t say anything bad about it. She was treated well and enjoyed working there. She also recruited other Filipino friends to work with her. And yes, they were some of the best and hardest working employees.
Going to WalMart is like going to a huge variety store and a freak show, all in one. Lol. When The Pea said: Adult Toys? I'll take two!" I lost it! 🤣🤣🤣
I go to walmart all the time(because I'm sure as hell not going to go to target!) and never knew they sold vibrators. But then as a man, I'm never in the women's section of the store....
@@pascaltremblay8314 She must have snuck them out/shoplifted them to avoid embarrassment at the checkout. I'll leave it to the imagination how she did that.🤣
As a Canadian who visits our southern neighbors every so often I do share a lot of these experiences. Except for the large amounts of spaces. Space is even more available in Canada and drivers are even more polite.
"If we had only one Walmart in the Philippines, it would put all other stores out of business." That's exactly why we hate it. But you are awesome as always. God bless you and us all.
Dearest Lovely Morena Pea You would have no more sari sari stores if the Largest corporation in America was in Philippines They didn't care about people. All they care about is PROFIT. I'm a retired lower middle class person. Thanks to insurance and corporate Greed. Believe me Pea. Consumerism is Not for the average every day person. Great video Like the Sunkissed Pea😊
WalMart is a contributor to the demise not only of smaller stores and businesses but manufacturing. They brought in cheap products from China. On balance it was bad for America. Enjoy your stay in America. .
I am so envious. It has been my dream during my 22 years in the Philippines to take my Filipino friends on a tour of the USA. One thing I often tell my friends back in the USA who have never travelled outside the USA, "You will never understand your own country unless you travel to a foreign nation."
So true. And if I am completely honest we americans take what we have for granted and don't fully appreciate what we have. Sure our politics are totally screwed up right now but the country is still strong and blessed with a lot of good decent people living in it. I heard someone say once "I would rather be poor in America than rich in some other countries".
Speaking as a British guy who has had the pleasure of visiting the USA many times... Walmart is AMAZING! It's like Aladdin's Cave, it has everything and is well stocked, clean, well lit, welcoming and low prices. Compared to supermarkets in the UK it is massive - much larger! I loved it!
You hit the nail on the head. If PH had a Walmart it would put everyone else out of business. That’s exactly what happened in America, all the small towns where Walmart came their mom and pop shops all closed down. People want to support small business but they prefer cheap prices and variety.
Worst of all is, the products sold at Walmart are manufactured in what is essentially Pea's back yard. You'll be hard pressed to find any product at Walmart that was actually made in the U.S. -- I doubt even the sex toys were made here.
Well with the cost of things in this country, you have to have a trade-off, unfortunately, the mom& pops are affected. This country should do more to control inflation if the mopm&pops are to survive. I prefer the small stores too
Read about WM in Germany! 😎 We defended our ground and chased them back over the Atlantic. :) Then we counter-attacked...LIDL and ALDI everywhere now in the US...😁
While experiencing Walmart during your visit to America, Pea, you observed that Americans know how to have fun. One of the things this American does for fun is watching THE FILIPINA PEA UA-cam channel. So, THANK YOU! ❤👍
That is one thing my wife noticed when she first got here, is how the streets are not crowded with people, and how everything is so quiet compared to the Philippines. Going on 2 years here now, she is finally starting to appreciate the quiet, the sounds of birds and nature. One thing she probably won't adapt to is winter. Snow was so nice to look at and experience. But the cold is something she cannot get accustomed to, nor driving in the snow!
I live in Upper Michigan and was hoping the NVC would get in touch before the snow flies, but it's been two months now since my USCIS approval and still no word! September is approaching. Might have to present her with a snowsuit, some chops, and a Yooper chook for when she gets off the plane! Chicken soup for dinner 🤣
I love the snow. I love the cold (beats standing on a Manila street during the middle of a summer day). It's the ice (especially, black ice) I hate when I'm driving or walking on the sidewalk during winter.

Hopefully you are enjoying your trip to America.... Are you planning to stay in Florida or are you venturing out to other places ? Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Painted Desert are some , among many others are some of our best places to visit if you have time....
I’m glad you took notice of the quietness. You are welcomed, but the receipt guy felt the unction to talk to you, but normally people only ask personal questions when you think you found a potential acquaintance. I’m glad you notice the way of driving in America. Busy cities has more traffic, but still more orderly. Everything is Meta first in America, so it’s all about your mental, and who is the back of your eyes. One thing to know is, historical information and powerful information is what makes America strong. The truth of life is within America, the very answers are hidden here, it’s a matter of reaching them. The lies are what they make attractive (NASA). Anyways, I do want to accept your compliment though about the roads. Black Americans built everything you see in America. All of the infrastructure we built. All of the inventions are ours but stolen. Back to Cracker Barrel. The only woman you saw that helped you is the number one reason America is still running today. A little old Black Woman breeder. Our of her Pusey came the beautiful America built on slave labor, so you can overwork people. Other countries Al have connection so they wouldn’t slave themselves and endanger each other lives just to built an Eiffel Tower. So, they don’t say, but Black Americans (not Africans) make the enemy burn the hottest when someone tries to take the best of them. Like me, you should want to be with me and etc, but they will do and say anything to make sure you don’t, starting with doubt and distrust. Like I said it’s all mental (Meta) here, it’s in the atmosphere’s energy. I made a haven so you can dwell with a peaceful mind here, don’t let these people out-step you. Areas with Black Americans are the safest, it’s like me going to a Visayan area. How they treat depends on…Same difference. Being a tourist means you are espied, but if you decided to stay you would then feel what all Asians feel in America. Danger. Since Europe and China are next to you, they know already to be careful around you because I tell will get back. So you know your enemies real quick. I mean people that have Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs in their agenda. Like the receipt guy at Walmart. It’s best to meet me being a tourist, than green carded. It’s all about the grip for them. Why you think I never made it back, and I’m blacklisted. It’s just my dick between my legs that can birth more beautiful infrastructure builders or Only Fans workers. If I have children in another country the nation is blessed/increased. It only takes one. PS: if they can see you, you never see them. If you see them, they are the killers. Simple.
I never thought I’d be interested in a Walmart visit 😂 but you made it fun Pea! It’s great to get your perspective and seeing the US through your eyes 👀 ❤
I wish the American people could see how hard it is to live in the Philippines. I’m happy you got to experience some of our great country. I love the Philippines.
Welcome to the U.S. Pea. I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as I did visiting your country. I heard you say that everyone here is friendly and for the most part I agree with you, but still the people in the Philippines are the friendliest people in the world. With life as difficult as it may be there it is amazing how friendly you are to outsiders. I love the beautiful country of the Philippines and I love the Philippine people even more! Keep up your great work Pea and again welcome to the U.S.
What you described could happen is basically what happened to many businesses across the U.S. Walmart opened up in a new location, and many smaller stores went out of business. It's nice to have one-stop shopping but it's hard for any smaller operation to compete with them. Hard to beat the convenience tho!
Walmart also treats their employees poorly. Not paying overtime when they work over or not giving them enough hour to get health insurance. Lots of cost saving measures.
The *traffic NOISE* in the Phils is mostly because of the *_HONKING of the horns TOO FREQUENTLY & UNnecessarily_,* I think, made *WORSE* by TOO MANY ppl being **NOT familiar enough** w/ the "Rules of the Road"! 😕😒
@TheFilipinaPea I loved driving in the Phills. So many people but everyone just jellin. Beep beep. Happy faces. 😊 Here, ya gotta watch em. They may get in front of you and stand on the brake. Just because. 😳🤣
@april....It's not just the honking. The jeepneys have very loud exhaust systems. Motorcycles and tricycles are highly obnoxious vehicles with their exhaust pipes too. I wear ear plugs everywhere outdoors and sometimes indoors too from the onslaught. Excessive noise puts stress on the human body.
As a western man, I will queue every single time instead of using a self checkout counter. And here’s my reasons for that . If you use the self check out system, you are doing someone else’s job and you’re doing it for free. The company saves on wages and someone is now unemployed. I will never use these systems. I walked into a store once, and all they had was self checkout and the girl says oh I can help you use it if you don’t know. I said I’m more than capable of using it, but I don’t shop at stores that don’t imply people to do the checkout. I left the trolly full of merchandise, and I walked out and never went back.
I have always really enjoyed odd wonderment. When my wife first arrived here a year and a half ago, seeing her reaction to the cultural differences, geographical differences, traffic, shopping and of course more, thrills me. So, I really enjoyed this one.
@TheFilipinaPea how the hell did you get authorization to film a video in Walmart?. I have a friend that was banned for life from Walmart for filming a vlog lol
for truckers, driving is like walking, it is so natural because they are always doing it. you put on some music, or an audio book, and the next thing you know, you're hours down the road. it's easier for some people than others. I've done several 24 hour straight trips, but other people are tired after only an hour or two. It may have something to do with strain. if it's natural, it's not a strain.. if you have to focus, then 2 hours of focus is a lot! this is also true for reading or watching a screen, or tennis. some people can do these things for 2 hours without a problem, and for others it's a monumental task to do it for 2 hours. great content, welcome to the USA. :-)
Much respect for the truckers in this country. Tech has made your job much harder and stressful. There is a camera watching your every move and every mile of your drive
You were right talking about how surprising it was to see "sugar free" stuff at Walmart and never seeing it in the Philippines. When I lived in Cebu, over 20 years ago, my ex-wife bought home a jar of peanut butter. When I ate it, I was stunned! I describe it simply, they took a kilo of peanuts, crushed them then, dumped 5 kilos of sugar in it! I told my ex how I now understand why diabetes is so high among Filipinos.
Yeah Asians will be the new diabetics, big pharma rubbing their hands as we speak. In Vietnam a few years ago i got some freshly squeezed juice at a street stall and saw her shoveling 2 spoons of sugar into the juice😨
The local 99 Only store had 1 KG packages of Del Monte Filipino style spaghetti sauce. Why not give it a try? Everyone took one bite of it and could not handle the sweetness. And then I tried every chef trick I knew to reduce the sweetness like adding balsamic vinegar, adding sausages, and the like and nothing made it any better.
Glad to see you enjoying our country and our traditions, and our way of living. Also as a Truck Driver myself, I must let you know I appreciate you recognizing that our job isn't easy especially with fatigue being one of our greatest enemies. Team Pea 4Life. Love you Baby. 🌹💯🌹💯🌹💯🌹💯🌹💯🌹💯🌹💯
Some states in the US have banned plastic bags but allow you to buy "reusable" plastic bags for 10 or 20 cents. Those plastic bags are thicker. They basically created a new tax and made the pollution problem worse. Smart, right?
You hit the nail on the head at the end Ms Pea. The hate for Walmart mostly comes from their dominance in the market place destroying many many small businesses. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen in the Philippines! I just left Dumaguete….I loved it there and can’t wait to go back! I hope you enjoy your US journey.
Ms Pea, I love your bubbly 🫧 personality. You are awesome 👌🏾. I love how you inform while enjoying yourself absorbing life. I love your comparisons. @TheFilipinaPea 100% accurate video as usual. I was shocked by the amount of traffic in the Philippines and noise 24 hours a day. Still a lovely country that is a joy to experience! Thanks for your videos!
I loved the "Nudy Rudy" comment about "too much time on our hands"! You are SOOOO right! I was laughing at your comments all throughout this video! I love you!
I remember how impressed my wife was with American processed foods; it took me years to convince her those junk foods were unhealthy. 30 years later, she's just returned from a trip to the Philippines where she fell back in love with open-air markets with their fresh long beans, lanzones, and piles of chicken feet. I prefer the Asian grocery store with its shelves crammed with everything from Salonpas to parrotfish vs. Wal-Mart.
There are indeed, and I'm glad you found them. I'm amazed at what Asian groceries in the U.S. are able to import. About the only thing we can't get are lanzones that still taste fresh.@@TheFilipinaPea
Good thing US drivers do not have to try and avoid the "Victory Liners" and "Jeepneys". Fond memories of my travels on both, not to mention hiring a "Trike" for a quick trip. Love the culture, traditions, and people of the Philippines. Thank you for sharing your stories and bringing back amazing memories.
Cooking from scratch is so much healthier!! So many processed foods here that I've had to teach myself the art of cooking! I'm so glad I did. Feeding my family homemade meals is the best gift to them!! Don't ever get used to this convenience. Keep the cooking skills alive!
Hey Ms Pea! I really hope you are enjoying and losing yourself in another Country and not worrying too much on vlogging. Great to see you and thanks for sharing! 🙏
Nice video and welcome to the USA. I drive for Walmart overnight and my trick is get sleep during the day and follow a good diet . Podcast and phone calls keep me alert coffee and Celsius also.😅
Pea, my filipina girlfriend and I have been following your USA adventures. I will be bringing her to Texas once we get her visa. I love it that you are describing perfectly all of the things I have been telling her about the USA. The food prices, the quiet, the organized traffic, the open roads, the space, sugar in all of the foods here in Philippines including spaghetti sauce! There is a lot of sugar in American foods also but I think worse in Philippines. I am glad you are enjoying your visit to the USA and Thank You for sharing all your knowledge and experiences with us.
There is sooooo much more sugar in foods here in the Philippines. Filipino spaghetti sauce could be a dessert topping. Many Filipino foods I like, but not the spaghetti sauce.
I enjoy the idea of bringing a friend to the Philippines, for his first time. It is just as much fun to see a Filipino experiencing America for the first time. My wife didn't know that when you have snow, it is super cold outside.
@@TheFilipinaPea The Philippines is 12 hours in the future! I keep asking my girlfriend to tell me what stocks are going to go up today as she's 12 hours ahead, but she never does.
My girlfriend says that when we finally get her a visa to come here she wants to see snow. But she was also freezing when i set the thermostat in my hotel room to 70F (20C), so I'm not sure how long she'd last in sub-freezing weather. ...
One trip over there I was talking to my sister on the phone and I mentioned how hot it was there. She said, "It's 29 degrees here." I said, "What a coincidence! I just saw a weather report and its 29 degrees here, too. Except here its Celcius."
Another Great video Pea. I’m so happy that you got to go to Walmart. I’m a truck driver and it’s cool to hear your perspective and consider us truck drivers. I do long haul and getting proper sleep is important. I actually listen to your channel to help pass the time as well as learn about the Philippines. I’ll be visiting for 3 weeks at the end of September. Thanks again from the Scorpion Trucker.❤
Hello Pea. Glad you found your way around Walmart. They have almost everything you need under one roof (food, clothing, auto supplies, eye care, hair salon, etc). The older versions used to have an auto center where you could get the basic maintenance done such as oil changes and tires. Where we live we don’t have one in our town so we would have to travel about 20 miles to get to the nearest ones. We have a couple of local grocery stores so basically what money we would save at Walmart would wind up being spent on extra gas used. I think the reason Walmart gets looked at negatively sometimes is because where there is one, a lot of the local businesses couldn’t compete and wound up going out of business. It also had an indirect effect on national businesses such as K Mart and Sears. Enjoy your weekend and look forward to your next stop on the Pea Does America tour.
@@TheFilipinaPea Local businesses that do survive are usually those that can outperform Walmart with their superior customer service and often have a devoted customer base. Owners and their staff tend to be more invested in the business than the average Walmart employee, who are not necessarily paid that well (minimum wage I suspect). When the Walmart super stores move into an area, they can end up monopolizing the job market, which means they can pay less than what workers had been making at the local businesses they used to work for. It's bad for the workers in that respect, thus lowering their earnings and their buying power, as well as creating near monopoly conditions in the business community.
Hey F Pea, You already speak much better English than most WalMart employees here. I seldom go there for anything, but when I do, I hate every minute of it. Good luck girl..
In my opinion the Philippines beats the US when it comes the shopping malls. I love how organized the stores are in the Philippine shopping malls and there is always plenty of workers to help you find what you need. In the US I have to hunt for someone to help and many times can’t even find someone at the register to check me out.
They have plenty of workers because they exploit the labor market with their cheap wages and they have internships where they have to work for free for many months before they get paychecks! So always always be nice to those employees that are working for free sometimes.
It is just amazing how businesses can staff an operation when the wage rate is US$200 per month rather than US$15/hr with 65% benefits as you have in most Walmarts.
My Thai wife made a video of her first time in Walmart too. She was impressed. They have sprayers mounted by every toilet in Thailand so I have them in the US too. Much better than TP alone. I once heard that Philippine money was printed on presses made and owned by the US and that is why the bills are the same size.
In 1976 in Guatemala, a college student alerted me that all the fancy colored money in Mexico and Guatemala gets printed in USA, then asked "Why is the USA dollar so plain and green?" His answer: "To keep it easy to counterfeit."
A sprayer of some sort next to the toilet sounds like a good idea.... Ive never seen one here in the USA though... sure might alleviate the mindless toilet paper grab every time there's a burp in the economy
Hello Pea from sunny Southern California! Ironically, I work for Walmart just passing 6 years now in Beaumont, California. I'm glad you enjoyed your first experience. It's also the #1 retailer in the United States. As always, another priceless video! ❤
Another awesome video! I love seeing your first time everywhere, and your impressions of everything, it's so *refreshing*. I can tell you're enjoying yourself, having a good time, and that's neat to see. You're so excited to explore what's new to you, and that matters so much. Thank you for sharing your observations! (Oh, and by the way, you're right about electronics being 1/2 the price in america than they are in the Philippines; however, a scooter or motorbike is twice the price in america than it is in the Philippines.)
Walmart's took over a supermarket in the UK for a while. They were not nice to employees. Can't argue with the sheer choice they offer though. Street markets employ more people and are better for your local economy though. Like you said, people have to make their own minds up! 😊🙏🏻❤
Pea, your surprise journey to the US has been a point of interest with my new Filipina wife and myself. I'm extremely curious how she will experience our society. I am also curious to see in what ways our culture changes her. I feel we are watching a bit of her future perceptions through you!
I love how you said that in the Philippines, if you blink you're dead. As an American, that's been living and driving in the Philippines (Manila area) for several years, I've often said out loud "Do I really need to deal with something every 30 seconds?!?" There's always someone crossing the street, or a motorcycle cutting you off, a street vendor pushing his cart, a stray chicken, lol. I also agree about the money. Nearly every country that I've visited has colorful paper money!
Someone rolling a tire down the road. A mother pushing her baby in the buggy. Dogs, goats ,bikes, e bikes……way, way too many motorcycles. No traffic lights, just untrained traffic dude’s that slow the flow of intersections.
Out in the provinces its just as bad, so many stray dogs and kids running out into the highway. Squater shacks in between the cliff and the road with no front porches, to get out of their houses they have to step directly into traffic.
About the coins you discussed, they are designed that way for a reason. sizes range due to helping the Blind count money by size and if you noticed the quarter has ridges along the side of the coin as does the dime, this helps the blind decern the difference between dime and penny as the quarter is to the nickel. The blind feels the coin in their hands and fingers to tell what is what.
I wish the Philippine Central Bank took notes from the Fed when it comes to designing coins. PHP coinage has changed so much in the past 30-40 years that I have no choice but to look at their values. In America I can feel for my Quarter and Two Dimes in my pocket to add to the Dollar bill in my hand for bus fare.
Hi Pea, you answered the question why some people 'hate' Walmart. One Walmart puts many small family-owned shops out of business. Eventually only the big stores survive and crush the competition. Besides, almost everything in Walmart comes from China, putting small producers out of business. @@TheFilipinaPea
@@TheFilipinaPeaWal- Mart used to be a lot better before Sam Walton died. You could walk in there and get about any gun you want. It's a lot worse and gets worse every decade. His grandchildren have ruined it. Still, if it was as bad as some here make it out to be, there wouldn't be so many of them. I used to lay the pipe and prepare the grade for Wal-Mart's in several states actually. I did blue top construction and storm pipe. Their head quarters is like going to the white house. You can't even go outside to smoke a cigarette by yourself and must be escorted everywhere.

Love your channel, love the tone of it... you're one of the best content providers in all of youtube. Your government should sponsor you...overall you are an excellent ambassador for the Philippines. Trust me, you want no part of Wal-Mart...it eats small businesses.
My wife is a cashier at Walmart 😂 Part of the reason people don't cook as much as everyone has to work just to pay the bills. Glad you came to visit. ❤
If your wife works at Walmart, they how the Hell does she have the money to buy pre-made foods?! Its more than double the food cost to buy processed foods, rather than cooking meals for yourself
Loved hearing your comparisons! One thing you didn't mention (but did in an earlier video) was seen while you were checking out at Walmart. Of the 5 or 6 American women visible, ALL of them were obese or overweight. That's America! (and why I like the Philippines!)
That is a total load of crap, I am here right now and that isnt anywhere near the majority of women, you people are truly trying to sell that dumb narrative hard; it is getting pathetic.
It's also that, when i was in USA north east. Restaurants all serve shit food, bad for your health. And too many fast food. And when you go into a supermarket, the choice for healthy food even though it's a big supermarket is very very slim. Or you have what we call in Europe. "Fake healthy food" like Diet coke, and stuff that looks healthy but is full of shit. Like sugar replacements. Also saw many fat people indeed. And it's so hard to find good quality restaurants, and if you found them they are CRAZY expensive. I even got sick several days from the food there. The problem with big supermarkets there, you have may options. But not the CORRECT ONES.
Hi Pea looks like you are having fun. I went to Walmart and picked up the two toys I didn't see in your cart will drop off in Dumaguete 😂😅. Thanks Pea stay safe

Cooking isn't a lost art with everyone Pea. I cook almost every meal from scratch here in Texas and I've taught several of the younger generations of the family how to cook...even the boys. My son and daughter both cook and I've started teaching my 4 year old great-great-nephew how to cook. One of my nieces is making a family cookbook and keeps bugging me for recipes for some of the dishes I make but I don't use a recipe. It's hard to figure out measurements when I just throw stuff in a pan. 😂
Hello Pea 😊 I am happy to see you here in the US enjoying yourself and yes I know it's a culture shock from the Philippines but there are many things to see and experience here and every place from the east coast to the west coast is different and unique in there own way and I am glad you get to tell the ladies back in the Philippines that not all American men are rich 🤣 😄
I grew up on several Navy bases, so many of my childhood friends are Filipino. Love your channel/vids and I just retired at 36 from the Army and will be spending half the year in the Philippines, starting this winter. I can't wait. God Bless
Target is alot Worse . I was more successful at Walmart then I ever was at target. And target people get treated Far Worse. Don't ever work there if you knows whats good for you, believe me, you will lose your shirt in the end.
Hi miss Pea Laughed so much seeing you in Walmart. Your reactions were the same as my fiancee's. She lives in Quezon City and I was shopping in Walmart. On video chat, I turned the camera so she could see all that you saw. She was amazed!
awesome video, it's been since 1974 that I was in the Philippines, you have a beautiful country there. Thanks for your perspective on our country. when I was in the Marine Corps, I grew to appreciate my country more and that was when I realized just how much easier we have it here and the choices we have. Again, thanks for a great video.
I know a lot of people in America don’t cook for their families anymore. I didn’t think of that but you are right it’s easier and more convenient to just buy frozen and already made. Not necessarily better though. ☹️
These videos are very interesting seeing a Filipino reaction. There are so many places try Medieval Times close. Try Family fun parks, mini golf, Dave and Busters, look for local fairs or carnivals, Korean BBQ especially buffet style where you cook at your table. Theme restaurants, escape rooms, laser tag, zoos, video game centers, chunky cheese pizza, and if that don’t work just try some cow tipping.
American currency has its look in trying to look serious. It looks the way it looks for the same reason that courtrooms and president's offices are all done in oak panelling and subdued lighting aimed at the few places of focus rather than in psychadelic paisleys, bright colors, flashing lights, and mirrored disco balls. But that was not always the case. About 150 years ago, our currency was much larger, featured rainbow coloring, and other eras not long after featured black and brown backing (now always green) and gold tinting and many colors of ink. The latest series of banknotes do begin to have color, of a very subtle nature, but the basic color scheme remains the same.
Walmart can seem overwhelming at times with so many products/brands to choose. It was nice to get your perspective Pea on something that most Americans take for granted. I didn't know you had so many sisters at Walmart? 🤣This Omni-channel approach in the retail environment is what makes everything available and seamless for consumers. How quickly we forgot the supply chain challenges from just a couple of years ago.
And you were at a regular Walmart, too bad you didn't get the chance to visit a super Walmart which is much larger in size. Your mind would have really been blown!
Did you notice the difference in the amount of employees in the store compared to The Philippines? Those automated checkout machines were once cashier's jobs. In The Philippines a store will employ many, have one or two in every aisle, but not pay them much, hardly enough to feed their families. Here, in the case of Walmart, they employ as least amount of employees as possible and don't pay them much. Some Walmart employees are dependent on Government programs to subsidies their income just to get by for food and shelter of their families. Walmart tactics are to put up a store, undercut the local mom & pop shops, drain the locality of it's businesses and then close down the store and move on to the next place, and repeat. Walmart buys much of it's products cheaply from China so they can have lower prices to feed their monopoly, draining local economies. Walmart has solely contributed to some of the abandoned malls and strip malls you may have seen around our country. If you see an abandoned mall or strip mall you can bet that there is a Walmart, or an abandoned Walmart from when they were there, not far away.... All from one of the richest companies in the world.
Bah. Online shopping particularly Amazon put brick & mortar shops out of business. Also Bush's war and covid wiped out many small businesses. Nowadays local stores serve mostly as a showroom so you can run home and buy it cheaper online like you probably do towgunr. Walmart is a blessing especially if you need household or hardware items late at night. Self checkouts speed things up to accommodate shoppers who can't wait in line. You just like to complain. Walmart has been around since 1962.
They need more people so a lot can be employed. I did not understand that before coz Im from the west until a local Filipino explained it to me. The malls and department stores in the Philippines are making exorbitant profits and the labor is cheaper.
@@Paladinbr yeah but the people in the Philippines aren't paying 600k for a 3 bedroom house that is 90 years old. They don't need to demand so much money. Also you don't need a 5 million dollar beach house to get a woman there. Sorry 600k for a regular area, not a big city area.
@@TonySchiavone6 first, new houses in the US aren't built to the standards of 90 years ago. A 90 year old house that has been properly maintained is sturdier than new construction if not as energy efficient. A house from 50 years ago, same thing. My grandparents house built in the late 60s will outlast anything being built now, while being upgraded to the same energy efficiency with full modern amenities. I live an hour from the coast and if you drop 600k on a 90 year old house here you'll also get about 10 acres and still be within fifteen minutes of a decent sized town, and an hour of the regional center with a top class cardiology department, university affiliated hospital and dental college, shopping, etc. Housing in the Philippines is good if you're in the top 10% of their income bracket. To achieve that your family has generally had several OFW who funded the education of the generation with that income. That, or they have several family members serving in the US military...usually Navy. The Filipino middle class live in homes with limited electricity, limited water, and no aircon. A handful will have a machine that washes and spins clothes but most laundry is washed by hand. Maybe 1% in the middle class barangay will have a small 65W fridge. Not only did I serve with Filipinos in the Navy, by girlfriend's family is from Leyte.
I liked it when Pea discovered the frozen food section, you see Pea, you're right a lot of us cook maybe once a week and that is if we feel like doing it. My Filipina GF said that's changing when we get married. Lol
Nice that you are showing how many things are much cheaper in the USA.. When I'm in the Philippines it cost me close to the same as it does in the America. Some things are cheaper, some cost more.
Every state and region is different. Its such a big country that it would take several visits to different regions to get the big picture. May years ago, we hosted 1/2 of a Filipino, cultural dance troop that stayed in our home. They toured all around the country and our city was just one stop among a couple dozen stops. At the end, they had seen the whole country and because they stayed with families, they were able to see how we lived. The following year, we went the Philippines and visited them in their home city.
I've been chatting with a Filipina for the past month. I've been learning about her and your country. Your video had came up, so I had watched it, then sent back link to Lyn so that she could watch your video and see what kind of a reaction that I will get from her. Thank you for your experience and reaction to what you have encountered here in the U.S.A.
That's great, glad you liked Walmart, but you're lucky they're not in the Philippines because it will put a lot of mom and pop stores out of business. ❤
Do your best to avoid the 'sugar free' stuff. They just replace natural sugar which is not so bad for you, with other chemical (artificial sugars) which are bad for you. Avoid it like the plague! I loved this video! All your observations are exactly what I noticed, except I was going in the other direction (US -> Cebu). I was shocked at how densely populated it was, how hard the driving was, how random the driving manners were, how colorful the money was, how noisy it was even in the countryside, etc. It was a fun 3 weeks and I would happily visit there again, but at the end of the day, I like my extra space and quiet nights. ^_^
The summary at the end was excellent. I joke about how I used to talk to my wife on WhatsApp before we got married and there was always background noise - dogs, birds, neighbors, and it sounded like total chaos. The first thing she commented on was how quiet it was here, and also about the space and how much that we have. Same with the rules of the road, how Americans follow them very closely. The only place I found in the Philippines that drives like in the States is Subic Bay, but that's because it was set up by Americans. There's even a large billboard before you go into the city that says that it's a orderly traffic zone and the rules must be strictly adhered to. I think your trip to Walmart was fantastic. I have noticed the same differences between shopping in the US and shopping in the Philippines. I think you did a great job pointing them out. A few observations that I have that struck me as a big difference: - It could be 30° c and my wife will order warm water to drink while she has breakfast. I find the coldest water I can find, because the hot water would just put me over the top of the too hot to be comfortable scale. - Police in the Philippines will often direct traffic even when there are traffic lights. This makes no sense to me. The other thing I noticed is that oftentimes there are no traffic lights and no stop signs, and people just ease their way in without any assistance from the traffic police. - shopping in places like Ace hardware, I notice that there are often times more employees than there are customers, to include an employee in every aisle and five or six cashiers, when there are only three or four customers in the entire store. - in the Philippines, it seems that every parking lot has a small contingent of parking attendants. They are there to help you find a spot and also greet you as you get out of your car. - shopping malls have all types of stores and services, to include dentist offices, hardware stores, fitness clubs, legal services, churches, and grocery stores. - people in the Philippines are very appreciative of visitors, to include being welcomed into just about every situation when they see you for the first time. I was greeted by a neighborhood policeman who introduced himself and welcomed me to the neighborhood and said that he was glad that I was there. - my wife loves to have the windows open with the air conditioning on. Still trying to figure that out. 🤷 I really enjoy these videos that compare the US to the Philippines. I think they will help to create and understanding between our two countries and help those who visit each country find themselves acclimated as well as amused at the differences.
I'm a trucker in the US. Staying awake can be a challenge. Coffee. Lot's of coffee. Also looking around. Don't solely focus on the road. Move your head. Check your mirrors often Check out other sights often. Just a few tricks. Love you Pea ❤️
Turkey never good to eat b4 you hit the road. Can't hardly get real food on the road anymore. About the only Turkey you're going to get is subway and that's not real food. 🤣
You are right, some Walmarts are HUGE, sometimes I think they should hand out roller skates so you can get from one end to the other in less than 30 minutes. You hit the nail on the head when you said 'If we have a Walmart in the Philippines the other stores will go out of business'.......that is what happens here in the US, Walmart opens up in a small city and soon all of the 'mom & pop' stores go out of business. Also Walmart used to pay their employees very little money and full time workers would often have to get government food assistance. All the while the owners of Walmart are some of the richest people in the US. Those are 2 of the reasons why some people hate Walmart Hope all is well and you continue to have a safe and great time.
The wal marts look alike here In every state However They are not all quiet Some are a bit noisy Early sunday mornings are the best time to shop at walmart If you want quiet, And want to avoid crowds
Pea, I'm an American trucker retired in Cebu now for 9 months. Following you for at least 5 years. I drove on avg 130,000 miles per year as a over the road truck driver. We commonly work 12 to 14 hours per day. This includes time sitting at docks, or dropping/picking up loaded trailers, fuel stops. Many of us drink a lot of coffee. I personally had a French Press and ground my beans. Naps! A 20 minute nap can re-energize the mind and body. And since we have sleeper bunks, all we need is a safe spot to park for that 20 mins! Hope that answers your question.
True I live in Davao City PH I can't believe how expensive laptops are In the Philippines compared to Walmart Target or BigBuy price's in the USA.. what gives??
I think it’s import taxes 😢
@@TheFilipinaPeaYep, the taxes on technology. It would be a good idea of putting an assembly business of electronics in the Philippines on those highly taxed products that way theres more jobs and cheaper electronics. There’s an idea for anyone wanting to start a business in the Philippines, import individual products and assemble there.
We don’t have laptop anymore we use our IPhone for everything ordering and paying bills

How about a Costco? S&R and landers would go bye bye
That's why in a lot of areas in the States they didn't allow Wal Mart because it undermined all the local businesses handed down through generations.
Haha. I was about to comment the same thing.
Very true!
So true. And if I am completely honest we americans take what we have for granted and don't fully appreciate what we have. Sure our politics are totally screwed up right now but the country is still strong and blessed with a lot of good decent people living in it. I heard someone say once "I would rather be poor in America than rich in some other countries".
Excellent point. I am amazed at Americans complaining about things other countries don't have time to think about, let alone complain.
So true.
True that!

I hope you'll have the opportunity to visit again, Pea. I'm enjoying seeing America through a foreigners eyes.

Simple.
Don't get too caught up in the joey now there is a dark side such as MASS SHOOINGS 🔫🔫🔫🔫😢😟😓

Facts. South Park even had a whole episode about it 😂
Walmart also treats their employees poorly. Not paying overtime when they work over or not giving them enough hour to get health insurance. Lots of cost saving measures.

Shopping and driving are two things that we take for granted here. It's not so easy in many other places.
Those are two important things that you folks have definitely figured out!! 👍👍
I liked driving in Phil's better. More congested chaos but so much less road rage.
Only you could make Walmart shopping fun😁. Thank Pea. Your positivity is contagious

for truckers, driving is like walking, it is so natural because they are always doing it. you put on some music, or an audio book, and the next thing you know, you're hours down the road. it's easier for some people than others. :-)
I think maybe I’ll go to a truck stop and interview the truckers, the backbone of America 👍😊
You still in Saint Augustine?
The truth matter is In the sugar-free stuff, it does the opposite.. Found out that limited diet and not learning to limit weight

They sell what the people want. This should be no surprise.
If you are truly in the Philippines you should know Filipino foods are way more sugary than anything in America

Ohhhhhh, so that’s why people don’t like them!! 😳😳😳
AMAZON was the Mom n Pop killer.
@@byronjones7263 Honestly I think it was the two of them together that killed the Mom n Pop. Amazon and Walmart.
Pea, you put on a very entertaining performance. Thank you for your hard work.
My Thai wife made a video of her first time in Walmart too. She was impressed. They have sprayers mounted by every toilet in Thailand so I have them in the US too. Much better than TP alone. I once heard that Philippine money was printed on presses made and owned by the US and that is why the bills are the same size.
Interesting! I love to hear other people’s impressions 😊❤️👍
Love to see it!!
Its just like a Big C store in Thailand, only bigger with more variety..
In 1976 in Guatemala, a college student alerted me that all the fancy colored money in Mexico and Guatemala gets printed in USA, then asked "Why is the USA dollar so plain and green?"
His answer: "To keep it easy to counterfeit."
A sprayer of some sort next to the toilet sounds like a good idea.... Ive never seen one here in the USA though... sure might alleviate the mindless toilet paper grab every time there's a burp in the economy

Another lovely video. Glad you enjoyed your Walmart experience.
Everything is so different here! And yes, I love it ❤️❤️❤️
About the coins you discussed, they are designed that way for a reason. sizes range due to helping the Blind count money by size and if you noticed the quarter has ridges along the side of the coin as does the dime, this helps the blind decern the difference between dime and penny as the quarter is to the nickel.

It's also that, when i was in USA north east. Restaurants all serve shit food, bad for your health. And too many fast food. You should have seen the prices at Walmart pre 2020. Inflation has really made the prices increase since then.
Wow, then it must’ve been REALLY cheap here! 😳😳
Cow tipping? That's a new one I haven't heard of.
Labor in the US is expensive. Labor in the Philippines is cheap.

on sugar free stuff I agree.
On the next episode of TheFilipinaPea, Pea at the gun store!
Very very good content, so honest and simply spoken. 👍🏻
A few observations that I have that struck me as a big difference:
- It could be 30° c and my wife will order warm water to drink while she has breakfast.
I really enjoy these videos that compare the US to the Philippines. I think they will help to create and understanding between our two countries and help those who visit each country find themselves acclimated as well as amused at the differences.

Those are 2 of the reasons why some people hate Walmart
Hope all is well and you continue to have a safe and great time.
