Hey friends! This video shows how to build a 12G SDI cable using Canare BCP-D55UHD connectors on Canare L-5.5CUHD coax cable. Not the most thrilling video in the world, however it shows the basics on using the TCD-55UHD TC-1 die set for the TC-1 crimp tool and the TS-100E multi stripper....meow. You can buy the fully assembled cables from me (LM) using the above link. Or if your feeling daring...a parts list is below! Enjoy!

Billy nice video. The Yellow tab next to the handle when slightly pushed down will give you a straight cut in order to peel off the cut jacket

Why is the boot not pushed further up to meet the connector's grip? Filmtool's Canare Digital Flex cables look the same, but with the boot evidently being installed/pushed further.
I am having issues with the T-100E cutter and my cable depth for the 5.5 cable. I just cannot get the setting right. Any chance you ever measured your settings and have them?
Not familiar with these cables but before you pretty it up so much looks just like RG6/59. Anyway, I guess my question relates to that needle piece you stick on the end. It's hollow and and fits on the center conductor, so therefore it's thicker. But it does make me wonder how that helps anything performance-wise. Any reason why these cables aren't just made using a longer center conductor? Also, when I did cable work ages ago, we were taught to make the center conductor short so the cable loses as few dB's as possible. By using the needle it's basically the same scenario as making the cable with an extra long center conductor. Yet somehow these cables carry more content on them.
This cable/connector is designed with portability in mind, that's the main difference. Where as a traditional F connector in a traditional home cable TV application could stay in place for years, the SDI cable using a BNC connector is disconnected/connected daily in portable applications. The 1/4 turn vs the F nut is a huge time saver. The needle tip is for longer term durability in this portable application. It also has a tapered tip to make mating with the jack easier.
@@billylaguardia could you give examples of the portable applications they would be used with?
@@JWolff-md3ij Video systems of many types used in hospitals use SDI cables as the video signal cable. 12G is needed for 4K and/or 3D signals. These systems are connected and disconnected or a regular basis and needs the longevity of a special needle instead of the naked center conductor. As for signal loss, this is a digital signal and can be boosted in strength and cleaned up for noise, unlike the old analogue signals in old cable TV.
@@JWolff-md3ij production companies doing outside broadcast events who are coming in and out of venues on a daily basis who will be plugging and unplugging sdi cables and tbh treating them very roughly and these cables are made to handle that
