Hope you are enjoying the video, if you want to see us build a huuuuuuge wildlife pond from a boring empty field, check this video out ua-cam.com/video/Mm248bZqFwc/v-deo.html
Great video, only thing I would suggest, and this is really for people who have ponds in a country where cold weather and ice is a thing. Place the pond pump at a depth that is 1 level above the deepest point. This provides for a warmer less disturbed layer for the fish to stay in when the water temp drops below 5 degress celcius (41 F) in the winter months, but allows the filtration to continue over winter. Or just move the pump for the winter months I guess is another option.
The best waterfall with pond video yet! You explain things so well and don't rush through the explanation or rush the video quality in your presentation. Thank You!
With all them trees around I would have installed a big Oase skimmer the one with the rock on top for a lid. That will be the next thing you get called back for lol nice transformation though !
I can see your point and well made. But the leaves only fall once a year and if the customer is prepared to put in the work to clear them out then fair dos. Maybe cost was also a factor.
@@heidispawsandfins tru but it's not just leaves a skimmer would also collect uneaten food that could cause fish a bacterial infection all year round not just autumn so well worth the extra money in my opinion but I understand there not 100% necessary for every pond build.
@@oliverskinner8962 yep, you're right. I do find that skimmers manage to grab the food too quickly while the koi are still eating though! When you're paying out mega bucks on koi food it's really frustrating. So I tend to have to stay out there while they eat and put a net in front of the skimmer to catch and redistribute the food until the koi aren't so interested. I then remove any food manually anyway so it's completely out of the pond's system. But obviously, if I'm not about and the auto feeder is on then it does remove it. Pros and cons as with pretty much everything!! 😉
I would certainly agree. Skimmers are essential . If you have trees you’ll get leaves. Leaves turn to muck which is work to get rid of. I like skimmers too because they have a pump vault. If you ever have a problem with a line leak coming out of your pond you can suck your pond dry and if you have fish you could loose them if you don’t catch in time. A raised pump will never let the water level to get that low. I like to have a separate line with a separate pump to push water along the bottom sort of like what he did but closer to the bottom. I fabricated PVC pipe and painted it black. No need for holes in the liner. Plus I set it up with a valve to feed new water in for water changes of 10 to 20 % as needed for fish. I have a tail of liner at the one end to let the old water on top to run out. This also allows for an exit when you get very heavy rain falls. Just some ideas that worked for me. Great video and beautiful work though.
This is what I have to do also. Our pond has been out there for about 30 yrs. Last yr. I drained it and removed a bunch of the muck that had accumulated on the bottom and in between the rocks. Filled it back up, it's about a 250 gal. pond. Looked Great.! Nice and clean. Then a few days later I was losing water.!? I wore rubber boots, cleaned out in between the rocks with a broom. Obviously there's a Leak.! So now, I have to undo, and redo. OMG. Wish me luck....😂😂
A GREAT VIDEO YOUR WORKMANSHIP IS VERY VERY GOOD. YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY, I THINK YOU HAVE MADE A GREAT JOB I REALY LIKE THE SHAPE EXCELLENT !! GO TO THE TOP OF THE CLASS !!!
Hello! Just found your vids. My hubby & I are making koi pool now. Placing 12x12 inch cement pavers. 2widths around perimeter pond edging. Your pool is of course Exceptional !!! we are fixing ours quite similar , (12x 12foot pool). Now to carefully fold the liner 🧐Tremendous videos ! Thank you 🐟🐟🐟 from Southwest Louisiana. Cindy & Joel.
Such an educational video!!! Thank you for sharing! Trying to,take some of this education and figure out how to scale it (way down ) to creating a natural healthy little pond for our small amount of ducks that is also a beautiful place to provide us viewing entertainment.
Pondman, could you please answer the question about using concrete and mortar that is exposed to the water? Will it cause the fish to have problems? You did a wonderful job and I picked up a lot of very helpful tips.👍
The risks are mainly related to exposing pond water to fresh cemement as it can result in fluctuating high pH levels, which can be harmful to aquatic life, especially fish and beneficial bacteria. As long as the cemement is properly cured and even better, a pond-safe waterproof sealant is applied over the cement to prevent leaching, and the water PH is monitored and adjusted before the fish are added, then this will minimise any effects.
With your help I am building a small pond following all your instructions. Thank you for the awesome advice and no B.S. suggestions. Warm greetings from North East Texas.
Hi bro.. love your work here.. Nice job!! Learnt alot. Wondering if u planning to do another setup. I'm from Singapore and planning to do an indoor terrapin pond in my balcony. Looking for ideas.
I love this video & have watched it several times... Can you please share the dimensions of this pond build, including each depth? You did mention it is about 2,000 gallons. Thank you
Brilliant video, really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing. I was told to put a waterproofing agent in the cement mix, if it was going to be underwater. Is that something you would recommend?
Great job! I love it. How long after cementing the stones in do you leave it before getting it wet and adding fish? I’ve just rebuilt my (much smaller) waterfall from stones and cement but don’t know when it is safe to start using it… or is the Lime in cement not an issue?
What happens when they need a new pond liner? Wouldn't the rocks and cement need to be removed to switch out the liner? I'm debating not cementing in the rock on top of liner. Thoughts?
Great video on all your construction work but you seem to have left out the plumbing and filtration side of things, cant have a koi pond without it so why?
Can I suggest you tell people the type of silicone you use inside a pond, because I have had to deal with soo many ponds where either, the snails, the fish or even everything has died, and it ALL because of the silicone that was used.
That pond is beautiful. Did you use normal building cement and how long would you leave it before filling the pond and adding fish. Obviously cement is alkaline and won’t do the water quality any good. Thanks
Hi we water proof the cement. It’s fine for most fish in the uk especially koi/goldfish. Our water in our area is around 8.1ph already high alkalinity. Give it at least a week to go off cheers
Excellent video! I never would have thought to use jets to send the detritus to the deep end. What bulkhead are you using? Im coming up with something that looks very different than yours and I like the way your bulkheads seal the liner before you cut the hole in the middle
Our customer bought a large pressure filter last year which he said it had been working well so he wanted to try it on the new pond and may upgrade again if he feels it is struggling. It may do as there is more water now. It would be an easy change as all the new pipework is installed
Amazing video! Could you go into detail on the lining? You mentioned that they chose a bad one... is it the PVC they chose and the one you recommend is EPDM? Or is it something else?
Yes greanseal .75 or 1mm or Firestone usually best and not badly priced. PVC ok but if you can afford to upgrade it is well worth it. The stuff on the video was almost like a tarp awning like the base of a tent
Hi, amazing job! im in the phase of researching the filter i need, could you recommend me one, preferably from Oase for a bit more than 10.000 litres (around 3000 us gallons)? Stock would be some kois (i think between 5 and 7) and some gold fish (between 10 and 15 of them). Thanks!
We would usually but the pond level was lower than the ground so it would need to be manually lowered if need be by the filter backwash cheers for the comment
@@thep0ndman the reason I ask, there was little pipe holes in the concrete randomly around the pond like it was made for that. I didn’t see you put them in. It’s not an issue install everything properly and you will be fine. It’s a lot of wives tails of people overcomplicating something very simple. Thnx for the comment
@@thep0ndman you are absolutely correct, and since I never trust myself for that one time….haha…I may not tighten something when cleaning the filters etc.
I wish you went slower on the lasering and rock placement. And what does 150mls down, how do I figure out that, and what does that mean, what rocks below water? Very confused.
The blasting the water around doesn’t match the pond design. You have the block directly on that shelf, your pic shows block and plenty of dirt to put that pipe in. Or is that just an example and you will put the pipe on the second shelf?
The water movement helps to prevent dead spots and improves circulation and most of the debris will be pushed towards the pump and then to the filter where it can be backwashed cheers
