Im doing mine soon. It just leaks in the cold . But as long as i have it apart, I'm also replacing the block heater. Nice video, I appreciate your guys work.
Can be done without a lift. Exactly the same except the color, my daughter's 99 7.3 is black. Was able to actually use the holes in the frame to access the rear bolts with a long extension. Only thing i can stress is you mist use the large o-rings on the cooler. We couldn't get the damm ends on with the large and the Felpro kit had 2 extra small orings, (thickness) so we put them on filled her back up and it leaked about 3 quarts of oil in about 30 seconds! Got the correct ones on using a large ratchet strap til it stopped, 4lb soft mallet, a few clicks and mallet, it was on. But everything was done in the driveway.
thank you my friend good job I, send my like 👍 this is my problem I’ have a 7.3 2002 thanks for this video GOD bless you and your family from NEW 🆕 Jersey thank you 🙏
A little grease on the gaskets will hold them in place which makes them easy to install. But I would definitely have pressure tested it before I put it back together
I leave the front housing on unless it has an issue I take the tube and rear off clean up replace o rings and reassemble after cleaning tube and housings for any burrs
Thanks, I'll get a Freedom update out to you guys. No permatex needed on the gaskets since they are actually metal gaskets with rubber o-rings. Should seal right up.
great video! one day I will do this to mine as well. Mine always has a little oil on the transmission underneath, Not sure what its coming from exactly, but its not enough to worry about, could be the cooler maybe.
I had to pull mine off twice. Was l leaking when i got it. So i changed everything. Still had a leak. The rear housing had a ever so small crack on the top making a drip.
I was not, in my case it was just leaking to the outside world, but yes, another common failure is oil in the coolant. FYI, if you watch Diesel Tech Ron's videos he uses cheap dishwasher powder to clean the cooling system. His channel is full of GREAT content. He was a diesel tech at a dealership making videos back when the 73/60 was current.
Do you have a video of it leaking while running by any chance? I thought I had a front main leak, replaced the Lpop, seal and wear ring. I noticed oil running down the rad hose. Trying to figure out what it could possibly be from
@Redbullz23 they are on complete performances website they are for the obs powerstrokes , if your truck is newer than 1997 I'm not entirely sure if they make billet for those or not
I need to get that done on mine but I’m on disability now and don’t have the money. Mechanic wants $1500 to do this. Can’t get any help so I’m gonna drive it till the oil blows out. When it gets were I can’t drive it I’ll let the chickens sleep in it.
That oring sounded like a piece of hard plastic when it came off and tapped the cooler. I just did the dipstick too(watched that one) and im sure this is next. Shes bone dry, as i type this comment! Lol! Ima go look again now!
I use Wix or Baldwin on everything I run, (trucks, cars, tractors, combines, excavators, dozers, etc) except these. The FL1995 filters are made by MANN in Germany, they are extremely good quality.

@@ProjectTimeGarage found a guy that said he would do mine for $450 if I buy all the parts and it will take 4 hours. Does that sound good. Is the time right for that. Just wanting to get this done. I’ve never done one before and now I can’t so I have to find someone to help me that is affordable for me. Disability sucks just to let everyone know take care of yourself and don’t do stupid things.

Best thing about the 7.3 (and all HEUI Injected engines) is that it's impossible to run them without oil. The engine will quit as soon as the high pressure rail drops below about 400psi of oil pressure.
Keep the SuperHooptie videos coming! I have literally the exact same truck, 310k and still running like a champ!
SuperHooptie - Hmm, that may be it's new name when (if) we get it finished.
Can't imagine doing that without a lift...but guessing it can be. Nice job and informative information.
Yeah, it woudl be a pain, luckily though most of these trucks sit up high and are a little easier to work under.
Every fix you do on this truck please share! There are lots of videos out there but not as straight forward as you! Keep on wrenching!
Thanks bud, plenty more coming your way!

Thanks! Good luck with your truck!
Man my 7.3 hasn’t run in so long I forgot what they even sound like! Mines down for the count but good to see the ol h2 whopty running!
Time to dig in and get yours running!!

Yes, definately can be done without a lift. 100%
I use assembly lube on the the thing to put it back together makes it a lil easier ..

Good info, thanks!
Mine was leaking during winter but hasn't even leaked a drop since summer. Crazy. I'll eventually replace the O rings.
If mine stops leaking, it's probably out of oil, lol.
Love the 7.3 content, Need a freedom update!
Did you use any permatex on the gasket?

Putting the housing back on was impressive i broke my housing just pressing it back in😯
It was a process for sure.

Small seeping usually doesn't worry me. I only fix leaks whey they start to drip and make a mess.
So fyi oil on the trans can be this or the turbo pedestal valve leaking. They sell a delete kit for the valve that leaks
I had to pull mine off twice. Was l leaking when i got it. So i changed everything. Still had a leak. The rear housing had a ever so small crack on the top making a drip.
Good info. I've never seen a cracked housing.
@ProjectTimeGarage wish i had not either.
Were you getting oil in the coolant reservoir? Would the oil cooler be the cause of getting oil into the coolant reservoir? Great video.

I don't but most 7.3 leaks come from the valley area
Need torque ?
Always!
Just did that on my ‘99 F-350 late last year. I can’t stand any leaks either, my 7.3L is bone dry and it will stay that way.
Yep, the leaks are an absolute pain. Fix one, another one creeps in. It's like playing whack-a-mole
@@ProjectTimeGarage, agreed but at least these old girls are pretty easy to fix.
@@JLCmike4014 Yep, that's one of the best things about them.
Do you know if there is any way to get like billet door handles for the f250? I hate these plastic ones
Never seen billet ones. All I've seen are chrome plated plastic.....
They do make billet door handles now 50$ a peice though
@@blair-zq4zg who makes them? I would rather get those tbh
@Redbullz23 they are on complete performances website they are for the obs powerstrokes , if your truck is newer than 1997 I'm not entirely sure if they make billet for those or not
@@blair-zq4zg ah yeah mine a 2001, still proving difficult to find for the newer style handles
If the oil cooler fails does that mean oil in the coolant reservoir???
Yes, usually it ends up pushing oil into the coolant system since the oil is at a higher pressure than the coolant.
@@ProjectTimeGarage okay cool thank you man , I’m probably doing my oil cooler today ! Shits going to be rough tbh !
Where’s your repair shop?
I don't have a repair shop, I only do UA-cam content but I'm in the Middle TN area.
Can the oil cooler leak in the front of the engine to
Sure can.
Now it’s time to clean that under side to make her look great again.
Yep. I just talked to the owner last night and he was working on cleaning /painting the frame.
I think you needed a bigger screwdriver to get those O-rings off.
I would've probably used a large flat blade shovel, to each their own.
😂
Good thing you guys didn't see my chainsaw idea then.
Rear is 1/2” ad front is 9/16th
Thanks!!

Eh, just keep oil in it and it'll be fine. Most of these thing leak and have for years.
