Since i'm portuguese i'm going to give a bit of context to stuff in this video. I won't focus on everything neither on typos they are natural, portuguese is a difficult language.
2:10 - cobalt stone streets - they are everywhere in Portugal, most sidewalks here have that style of pavement, although not always forming preety designs, usually they are plain white or white and black forming very simple designs. the capital Lisbon tends to have prettier versions with complex designs in tourist areas and main avenues.
The lamp posts are classic and i can remember them from a few years ago but nowadays they are very rare here.
3:15 - "Rua da felicidade" (happiness street) and "beco da felicidade" (happiness alley) seems fitting for a red light district area ;) kinky.
i recognize some other names on street stones like "travessa do aterro novo" meaning new landfill cross street... Don't know about japan or america but here we do tend to give pratical names for streets like destinations said street leads to. then we have famous people named streets being also usual.
3:54 "Mercearia" - a mini market store usually with fresh produce and typical everyday convenience store items.
5:48 That pork chop bun seems to have some portuguese influences too but i might obviously be wrong... here it's called "bifana" usually a pork chop made in a butter, wine and garlic sauce, sometimes served with mustard or with hot sauce "piri piri" .
8:17 egg tarts - In portuguese "pasteis de nata" are a flaky puff pastry pies with a milk and egg based filling as you describe, they have a burnt top because they are baked at 480ºF / 250ºC - a bit hot for delicate tarts like these, the aim is to get the top with dark spots but not burnt. Served with powdered sugar and or cinnamon they are heavenly.
Note: it's not that eggy and its firm because of the reduced milk and low quantity of yolks (and there are no egg whites in the recipe) they might taste more lemony and cinnamony depending on the milk reduction mixture used.
10:05 - "escada" means stairs 10:23 let's us see why it has this name :P
10:24 beer - it's a "super bock"(brown bottle) a portuguese brand beer in macau... nice , same for "Pedras" (green bottle) a portuguese brand of sparkling water.
    10:49 appetizers:
"Sardinha"/sardine - we do like sardines and codfish a lot.
"chamuça"/ samosa it's probably part of the Portuguese discoveries meant we got a lot imported from their culture.
"Croquete" / croquette - yes we like them more meaty.
Codfish cake / "pastel de bacalhau" - it's a croquette but with codfish and we add parsley to the mashed potato and codfish mixture
Portuguese ham / "presunto" is salt cured ham, chewy, salty usually served thinly sliced. very very different from regular ham, ham for us is smoked ham we call that kind "fiambre".
"Salada de polvo" / octupus salad - garlic, olive oil and vinegar with some parsley and olives.
The shrimp pie would be called "rissol de camarão" but we don't add it anything that would give it a smoky flavor. should be shrimp and a rich bechamel sauce inside.
12:51 - Suckling pig / "leitão" - roasted piglet - since it's a juvenile pig it has lots of collagen so it's very tender and sometimes somewhat gelatinous in texture.
16:00 Serradura - it's a very simple dessert - whipped cream + condensed milk + simple vanilla biscuit called "bolacha maria" or Marie biscuit.

    • @HyTricksyy

I know exactly what the Serradura dessert is, but we've always called it "Doce da Casa". Or maybe that's a regional variant? :D

    • @cosporcos
      @cosporcos 5 років тому +1

@@HyTricksyy restaurants adopt a dessert called "Doce da casa" for a dessert they always have, everyday.
Some of them adopt serradura as their doce da casa. More often you'll get a slightly modified serradura recipe as Doce da casa like adding chocolate or coffee or vanilla pudding as one of the layers, you can also have different biscuits, nowadays oreo is a popular modification of serradura being used as Doce da casa

Wow--this was fun! I've always wanted to visit Macau, and now I've been there digitally with four of my favorite people (whom I've never met--lol). It's always so nice to see Laurence and Jean, both of whom are so very charming and knowledgeable . (I know Jean feels ill at ease on camera, but she is both beautiful and interesting to watch!) Thank you all for another wonderful experience.

What a wonderful video! It's so nice to see all of you together again - Shinichi, Satoshi, Laurence, and Jean J., too! Macau is clearly a wonderful place to visit. It is so beautiful, and there are so many interesting foods to try. The noodle stall looked like so much fun. If I could have magically tried the noodles, I would love to try the one with the fish. That looked great. What a nice dinner you had! Everything looked spectacular! It was so nice of Jean J. to come over to join you. Thanks for the wonderful video! I hope you'll all get to go there again one day. :-)

Earlier this year, I found a Macanese restaurant in Melbourne, Australia.
I had never tried food from Macau before, nor seen any places around.
I knew it was the real deal when the only cutlery around was spoons, forks and chopsticks.
I got salty noodles and san choy bau. Both delicious and the serves were incredibly generous.
    Macau itself looks beautiful.
I've had the Hokkaido egg tarts, found them randomly one day and decided to go for it, they're amazing.
SInce I've seen a few of your videos now, I decided to subscribe today.
If I ever go back to that restaurant, I will watch this again and take notes.

Macau, what a sight to see😍! I enjoyed the ancient houses a lot. I liked all the food you ate, the suckling pig was making me really hungry 😂,love this meat. As you mentioned, african and asian cuisine are often alike, whereby I can't say, which one has the more peppery food. I was married to a Ghanian and their food is really hot and spicy. I like it less spicy though. Just can't wait for the next video, have a good time and greetings to the group 😊.
