I lived in Macao a few years before immigrating to Canada. It's good to see that not much has changed after almost 50 years. I was going to go back just weeks before Covid hit, and the flight was canceled. It's time to go back for a visit. Thanks, Luke, for taking my memories back to the wonderful Macao. ❤❤❤❤
Watching those buildings in the opening scene, I can't believe it's in Asia! What impressed me the most this time was the egg tarts. I didn’t expect to have to wait in line for such a long time to buy them. It’s crazy! It's the first time I saw grass jelly combined with soy milk, it's a bit strange, I wonder if it has a bitter taste? Great Macau tour, thanks a lot for sharing! 👍🤩👏
No, grass jelly does not taste bitter. It's just black colored jelly cooked in syrup. You are thinking of herbal jelly which has bitter herbs infused and no syrup.
Thank you for giving real honest reviews! I imagine all those people stood in line from watching video of people who don’t give honest reviews. So thank you again!
We went there a long time ago but we were not really able to fully explore the place. Wish we could go there again soon! Thanks for this wonderful video! 😍
You may go to Lord Stow's Bakery in Coloane that is the Margaret Cafe owner ex-husband's, that shop probably would be sweet enough! As a Hongkonger, I like the herb jelly so much, it is tasty and it reduces the disharmony/excess of heat in our body after eating many fried foods🙃
Most of local go Lord Stow's Bakery, not the one this UA-camr go. Don’t know if he did well travel preparation. We know this is rude service from boss and staff. Free feel to ask anything about Macau.
I've never been to Macau before. But, from what I've read and heard over the years, Lord Stow's is touted as the best Portuguese egg tart in Macau. I believe they were the first to serve it. The quality of the egg tart too, of course, no doubt contributes to Lord Stow's iconic status.
I think most of people from Macau would recommend you to try the Portuguese egg tart of Lord Stow’s Bakery instead of Margaret’s, especially the main store in Coloane.
I’d love to go to Macau,it really looks so pretty, I adore the architecture and it’s so neat and tidy. The food choices you shared look so delicious Luke, love these videos.
Hi Luke, I don’t remember since when I’ve been watching your video on youtube. I have been living in Macau for about 7 years and accidentally saw your video in facebook when you were in indonesia and I like your Vlog. If I knew you were coming to Macau I will happy to meet you in person. It’s been a long time didn’t watching your videos.
First time in Macau and only a day tour. I once spent a month there. After visiting for a day tour. Love Macau and the street food. Love the Charsui and the Barbeques at Coloane. Also love restaurants in Taipa.
I've always wanted to visit 🇲🇴. Years ago, when I visited San Francisco and I went to Macanese Chinese style restaurant, and man they style of food is on another level. You never disappoint Luke. Any plane of visiting 🇵🇹 in the future?
Mr. Luke let me tell you one thing, Macau Egg Tart has a unique variety of egg tarts now, The one you ate, we can call Macau Portuguese egg tart according to its Asian taste and less sugar, whereas you eat the Ginja Senado is also Pasteis de Chaves and egg tart, same as Portugal one but from Chaves you miss it you were so close to it, next time try all egg tarts in Macau and see the differences in tastes. good luck
Thanks Luke for the glimpse of Macau. Never knew it was once a Portuguese colony . Wonder if you can overhear locals speaking Portuguese as well as Cantonese ? Kudos to you and Mink having to dodge and weave through the crowds and umbrellas. Offal is not my thing , but you were selling it pretty good and having Mink's review was an added bonus.
Hello, Portuguese here. It’s not very usual nowadays but the old people still talk Portuguese. It’s just like in Goa, India. The older generations still speak Portuguese. However I think in one generation Portuguese will be completely forgotten
I make sure I get my pork chop bun in my next visit to Macau and the same go with those curry beef offal. Complement wine tasting with pickled cherry. Since he ate it real hot, it's hard to taste complete sweetness in Portuguese Egg Tart. And I usually eat my tofu pudding hot rather than cold.
So I follow your programs, always on television. Today is the first day I came to look up your channel on youtube, yes your program makes my day because you do something that I love. Today I saw another one on television, if I'm not mistaken, you were in Malaysia..Almost forgot, greetings from Suriname...
I am always impressed with the way every part of the cow is used in Asian and South American cooking. I have had the custard pies in Europe and they were always delicious, disappointing about the ones here. Looking forward to seeing your next video 👍✌️☮️
Lord Stow’s egg tarts are sweeter. Supposedly, his wife sold the recipe to KFC. Also, you should always reserve a later ferry as they let you go stand by if you want to leave earlier.
Does anyone know the history of Macao ? Portuguese sailors came to this fishing village & asked fishermen asking the natives what they call this village they said ma ko the sailors said Macoa .
If it melts in your mouth, it's tendon. If it's crunchy, it's most likely esophagus. Beef offals is traditionally served with daikon in Cantonese cuisine. You may also get lungs in that mix as well.
These blue and white art are called Azulejos in Portugal, though the themes and way of drawing is different, you could clearly see it. The fried chicken is normally way bigger and thinner at other places so it was more mediocre looking to be authentic IMO. 🍀
The beef offal you ate, the one you like is not fat, it’s tendon that’s been boiled over half a day that’s why it’s soo soft and some chewy, depending which part of the tendon. I’m still watching commenting as i go ❤
Your gf is look alike of my 18yo daughter. Is she filipino? Hehe we going to hk and macau this coming april. I’ve been watching your videos lately. Cheers
imagine departing Portugal for China some 450 years ago. and after surviving the miserable 10 month voyage, only to be greeted with a boring custard tart upon arrival
Never had an egg tart that didnt taste at least a bit sweet, so I have to say that is weird the 45 mins wait egg tart had no taste at all. Not sure why that is so damn popular cause I sures hell do not want an egg tart that isnt sweet at all.
Majority chinese are not able to take off more then 2 weeks per year of hokidays . So of course they are not able to travel abroad and for example enjoy real egg tart (pastel de nata) in Portugal or Brasil. In other words...for Chinese tourists this one from video is more then good .
I really like your enthusiasm for cantonese associated foods and how you produce easy going care free videos on food tasting. However, since you like so much of cantonese food, try to pronounce the cantonese names more accurately, e.g. Hong kong cafe is pronounced as "Cha Charn Tang" not "Cha Charn Tongue". And yes, I agree with you, the portuguese egg tarts should be sweet, not too sweet, but has to be sweet.
Should try the Lord Stow’s bakery in Coloanne. I guarantee you it will be a different story. Actually you can ask them to sprinkle some cinnamon powder on top of the egg tart. This bakery you went is a bit overrated and it use to be quite good some 10 years ago but the quality has gone down.

Yeah as expected the egg tart won’t be a win as they tend to the taste of the Asians which is their palette is very accustomed to light sweetness and our desserts are mostly healthy. So you won’t find desserts that are rich and overloaded like the western desserts. ❤
